[Q] Privacy setting - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, under settings, there is this 'Privacy' setting where there are back up my settings and automatic restore. What is it actually for? Do I have to check them on?

This feature allows the phone to save some settings e.g. wallpaper, WiFi networks connected to, apps downloaded to the cloud. Then if you ever factory reset your phone, after having entered your Google account in the intial setup, those setting will be restored automatically.

What exactly are being backup? Applications?

Anyone has any ideas on this setting of what it does?

Do you need to setup HTC Sense for this to be working?

[Q] emails not pushed after flashing a.o.s.p 4.0.4

i flashed aosp 4.0.4 from the imm76d build from rootzwiki here
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/21626-aosp-404-stock/
and since flashing, no emails are pushed to my phone. i have to go into gmail and press the sync key. this occurs on both wifi and 3g networks. i used titanium to restore my system settings but i double checked and syncronize gmail is selected on all of my accounts.
does anyone have any first troubleshooting suggestions?
thanks!
First off, restoring system settings/data with Titanium Backup is rarely a good idea.
Also, have you checked if general "background data" and "auto sync" settings are enabled?
You can try adding the Power Control widget and using that toggle to turn on/off background sync also. Sometimes people check those and forget.

background data is enabled. sync is set to on. gmail sync is on for all of my accounts.
are you referring to the stock power control widget with android 4.0 that has slots for wifi, gps, sync, brightness? yup, sync is enabled on that as well.
trying a factory restore without titanium restore of system settings, only apps.

[Q] Hidden Contacts Keep showing Up

Hi guys,
Sorry if this issue has already been posted. I've done some quick search and didn't find any effective solution.
My Galaxy Nexus is on stock 4.0.4, latest build available. I have three accounts set up on the device:
- Gmail 1
- Gmail 2
- Skype
I want only the contacts from account Gmail 1 to be shown in the People app and the contacts tab in the Phone app. I've tried everything. The standard setting where I select only contacts from the desired account to be shown doesn't work as it should. Once I quit the app and open it again, all contacts from the three accounts are shown. I also tried to remove all accounts and set them up again, no effect.
I am trying to avoid a factory reset. Is there any other option you guys can think about? Any setting that I may not know about?
Thanks in advance.

[Q] How to fix email sync disabled in settings

Somehow my email (POP3) accounts have been changed from sync to disabled in settings. If I go to settings, accounts, email, all email accounts show sync disabled. If I click on the sync icon my only choice is to manually sync the account.
If I go to email, settings, for each account, sync email is checked and there is an appropriate sync schedule selected.
I find the email is not being checked per schedule, it is acting disabled as it shows in settings and only checks if I manually checked it. It was working properly at some time in the last week or so.
Obviously I must have changed something to cause this, but I can't figure out how to fix it.
Any ideas?

When in the email app, settings, per account, above the just 'sync email' button, under ''days to sync,' is it set to automatic? Also the inbox check frequency, make sure its not set on 'never'.

I do not see those settings. I go to email, settings, account, 1st section is common settings, then data usage, then sync settings. In sync settings only thing is sync schedule. I that are the settings for peak, off peak, etc. Am I looking in the wrong place because I can't find what you're referring to.
Note: this is a non-rooted phone running stock JB received OTA.
I've had problems with stock JB phones and enabling Exchange sync (yeah, it's not POP3, but I wonder if it's the same issue?)
Try this: Settings > Data usage > (Hit the Menu button / Action bar [the vertical ... thing]) > make sure "Restrict background data" is UNCHECKED and Auto sync data is CHECKED.

Restrict background data is unchecked, but auto sync data is not. I am checking it now. Hopefully that will do the trick. I'll report back.

Thank you so much -- that did it! I couldn't find the setting I needed.
Glad to hear it!
From my experience, these settings are set by certain carriers or phone mfgs on JB ROMs (I've seen it mostly on Verizon devices though), since you said you did an OTA, that's probably what changed it. Apparently they want to prevent people from using data or something

It wasn't the OTA that broke it. I did the OTA immediately before setting anything up and the email sync was definitely working then. Something since then (maybe something I installed?) caused.
Oh well, at least its fixed now and I now know where to look for the setting.
thank you so much, this worked for me,,,, after fixing these settings, I was able to go back to the email client, and fix those settings and everything worked,,, God bless you
This has started happening to me this weekend and I've no idea why... I've had to turn on email syncing 3 times.

The option is in Data Usage..... Thanks for the right answer!
(I'm still learning the recent Jelly-Bean upgrade. Some things are easier to find, but then some things that Were easy to find are Now buried in three layers of onion.)

I had this same issue after I upgraded my note 3 to kitkat and this fixed it,THANKS!

SOLVED : For those who don't see Accounts & Sync after update.

The Accounts & Sync is gone from menu after update? Well, the way to see it and control it it's easy. Go to Settings : Setup guide : and at step four there you go, Accounts & Sync.: Do whatever you want from there : Sync automatically and allow data transfer in the background or don't.
IF THIS HELPED YOU : HIT THE THANKS BUTTON.
The auto-sync menu option has been moved...and there i no longer a widget for it for whatever reason...
you don't have to go through the setup guide though...
settings> data usage> options (lower left key)> check or uncheck 'Auto-sync data'...thats the only way to reach it anymore...
after you set up syncable accounts, they'll show up in the settings, such as google, drop box, facebook, etc...you can modify what to sync and everything still...you just can't quickly turn off auto sync like in the past...kind of dumb, as i'd very often disable sync when driving with my phone hooked up to the car and using data for music or something...i don't need to have everything interrupted for a random email or whatever...
but oh well...
True. And yes, that's one way to do it.
app
I download an app called sync settings on play store and it really helped me to find that sync settings
Well cheerios to you

[Oxygen OS 9.0.2] Can't disable Google Sync specifically

So I reinstalled my phone a few days ago with Android Pie. However, I can't disable the sync for the google account - it's all on or all off.
Normally, one would go to Settings -> Accounts -> (your Google account) -> Account Sync -> Toggle every switch off. Like below seen in 'sync settings toggle'.
However, for the same screen, I get like seen in 'sync settings no toggles'. The only thing I can do to prevent my Google account from syncing, is disable all sync in Settings -> Accounts. But that disables everything, also accounts I want to sync.
I have not found a solution for this yet. Anyone?
Really no one had this before or has a idea to fix it?

Not exactly sure what you mean but when i go to Settings -> Accounts -> (your Google account) -> Account Sync
i get what you see in your first screenshot, i am however on 9.0.3.
Just updated to OOS 9.0.3, still the same screen (right). No option to disable specific syncs, it's all on or all off :/
Edit: Ah me... Enabling sync for all accounts all of a sudden revealed the switches...
