K got my DINC Flashed today.. everything rocks. but I understand if I flash a rom my settings will be metro settings will be no more..
But am I still able to say flash themes and such through recovery..? Or say flash fonts. etc.. thanks The dude said as long as I dont change roms nothing would reset.. but im asking bout the simple things.. as im on the rom I like.. etc
Fonts would be fine, but depending what the theme changes it could create issues.

thanks.. thats what i figured.. anything that messes with system settings etc.. would be out. but fonts and flashing keyboards or themed markets etc should be fine..

I flashed my wifes dinc to cricket and I also flashed another ROM and all her settings stayed. I know with Cricket you can flash pretty much any ROM without it wiping the flash. I've done it on my old ERIS and my wifes Dinc and on my Droid X. im pretty sure metro pcs should be the same, but I would google it for good measures..

well even the dude who flashed it said if I do a hard reset or change roms.I will lose the settings.. but he said he gives a 6 month period. so if i want to change roms. just bring it back to him and he will reflash for free.
The only downside to metro is the slow 1x speeds. but other than that. I have a signal everywhere.. and its cheap 40 bucks a month for unlimited everything.. plus between work and home. both have wifi.. the slow data wont really bother me.. Its like going back to 2002 with my ppc-6700 on sprint before evdo came.. lol

If you do a hard reset it would change the settings but changing the ROM shouldn't...I only pay 45 bux a month for unlimited everything with cricket and have pretty fast 3g.

ok. so I should be able to flash to say another rom. and my metro settings should stay intact? its only when i have to hard reset that i will lose settings..
I thought a hard reset is basicly.. the same as I do before flashing a rom. Ie clear the cache/dev..and clear everything.. etc..

To install a ROM just wipe the dalvik cache and do the factory reset to wipe the phones current ROM. The settings dont get touched at all. If your concerned just back up your current ROM before you do anything.
make sure to do a backup!!!
Ok I got it now.. Ive just read how some people lose the data connection etc.. when flashing a new rom etc..
so it basicly safe to say do a nandroid back up of my current rom. then flash a new one.. and if it goes sour. nand back to the working rom im currently using.

You got it..I would download apnbackuprestore from the marketplace and backup your current apns before flashing a new rom..also download autostartroot from mp after a flash..If your data still doesn't work I believe Token has a metropcs zip file that will enable data connection...give a new ROM a shot its addicting! Good luck man

thanks for the info.. I have flashed quite a few roms etc. between my DINC and before Hero.. just metro pcs stuff is still new to meh.lol
I've had MetroPCS for a couple months now and have flashed many roms to my Dinc. After flashing a new rom, your basic talk and text settings with stay intact but you will lose MMS and internet. Just follow the MetroPCS Eris tutorial and everything should be restored. Works everytime!
See thats what i though.. gonna go read the metropcs eris tut. thanks..

hello, i just bought my phone from metro pcs yesterday, flashed a rom yesterday, and i had no data, so today i though i would try a different mod, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1434497 HenseMod booted up fine but no data still, so i though i messed up so i tried it again following all the directions, i though that when i unlocked the boot-loader that i had S-OFF, but i still have S-on and when i formatted the system and what not and installed the MTD-recovery.zip i rebooted and now i have no recovery menu, and cant boot, but i still have the system recovery, i was hoping there is a way to reflast clockworkmod recovery using adb shell or something,
any help is appreciated, thanks everyone

cwm should work again now
ahead of you (; i tried that, it doesnt work...
nvm i got it thanks dude ^^, while im here do you know why i am having problems with data working when i flash a new rom? am i flashing the right rom for my service?
There us only a few roms that work on metro pcs look for one that says marvelc or a510c
Sent from my HTC_A510c using Tapatalk
If you used mtd and resized the rom partition, I think you have to undo it again before flashing a different rom or you'll have problems.
the only problem is that now that i restored the original rom it still wont connect to data.. i will try another rom but i think it is something else
ok i tried a different rom and went back to my original backup and tryed a different kernel and i still have no data, what is there what would cause this?
I am having the same problem.
Did anyone have any luck?
Nope still walking around with no data, haven't figured it out yet. Let me know if you find somthing.
Try to reactivate the phone or update your roaming. I don't know if that stuff works with metropcs but that has to be done with Verizon sometimes.
Sent from my Sabotaged Droid Incredible 2.
Well than is there someone who knows how to do this and can tell me..
On Verizon you would press *228 then 1 to activate. To update roaming its *228 then 2
Sent from my Sabotaged Droid Incredible 2.
ok well i updated roaming and that didnt work the only way i can reactivate it is by calling customer service. my laptop died a few days ago so im going to have to wait untill tomorrow after school to call and try that, any other ideas? im going to just reflash it later after all my calls are done, to the best rom that would work with my metropcs phone. can enyone tell me what the best roms are for this service? havent seen a thread on metro pcs yet
I don't think roms are usually carrier specific. Only device specific. Are you doing a full wuoe data and dalvik cache when you are flashing the rom?
Sent from my Sabotaged Droid Incredible 2.
i tryed lots of things.. yes i wiped everything one time and restored my backup. is it in the rom or the kernel? im going to try a different kernel, they recomended here than if that doesnt work i will try that one..
Its possible the kernel could cause you a problem but the problem you are having may be rom specific. Its worth a shot.
Sent from my Sabotaged Droid Incredible 2.
yeahh that didnt change anything.. ive tried every rom besides cyanogenmod because the download link didnt work
I've heard of some people having to do an apn backup on a rom that works and restoring that backup on the broken one. That may be an unrelated fix but what can it hurt.

I am updating my wife's EVO. Any new rom I install drops signal to 1x. This happens on any new ROM I flash. I have done all I can think of to prevent this - update radio, wimax, PRL, NV, update profile after flash...I know this in an installation issue and not a rom issue. But since I run a SGS2 I am not on the EVO thread very often.
Yes I am rooted with S-off. I can flash multiple rom's - they all just drop into 1x (even with Airave 5 feet away and my SGS2 next to the evo getting full bars in 3g)
what am I missing??? any help would be greatly appreciated - if you could drop a PM so I can read (I'm on the SGS2 thread) that would be a huge help...Thanks guys!
I think its not the roms but your signal is actually 1x, have you tried looking at the signal in a different location
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
yes, in multiple locations. If I nandroid my "good" custom rom I am at 3g, my SGS2 is at 3g, as soon as I flash another costom rom on the EVO - 1x????
yep, just verified for the 3rd time...nandroid restored my original custom rom and it's on 3g (on the EVO)
damn this is frustrating
Hey trying running the latest RUU on your evo, and then flash a new rom, thats strange because it should be showing up, make sure your radios you are using are compatiable with the roms to! And it might just be a sprint issue because my phone *evo* and my dads phone *evo* as well can be right beside eachother and get different stats for some reason :/ grr sprint!
I hope you figure it out and if I helped please hit the thanks!
Stevo
lol, trying that right now.
was actually doing that as you were typing...what do they say about great minds??
Lol were you really, thats to funny!
Aye they think alike!
Let me know how it turns out when you get the evo back together again man,
I know running the RUU fixed a lot of small issues my evo had, and I hope it does the same for you

arggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg...updated recovery to aman ra, flashed stock....no root(3g but no root). reflashing stock with root, going back to CWM, and recovering my last good nandroid....this all started because the kids were messing with the wife's phone.
Hey,
You dont need to do all that man just reflash superuser and you should have your root again if not just rerun revolutionary, if you restore your last nandroid it will bring those bugs back with you.
I am glad you got your 3g back though, and your issue should be fixed after flashing super user.
Yeah I personally like CWM better a lot of people dont.
and I have 5 sibblings, and they know how to screw up tech with out even knowing how to use it..
Kids amaze me some times lol

so back to where i started. old custom rom, but at least i have 3g

Aye, aight well at least you have 3g back.

let it settle
update profile and PRL
no 3g, just 1x - and this happens on every rom...so I know this is something on my part but can't quite figure it out....oh well, wife's phone is up and working good enough for her.
not sure if I need an updated PC36.img (which i am assuming is recovery)
Yeah, I really dont know that is baffling me, I wonder why it isnt working. Um are you able to still connect to internet? & what if you try using a rom like clean rom or just something that is stock sense that is cleaned up a little? "I wish I could send you the rom I am putting together but it still needs a few things worked out"
Is she alright using the shooter rom with all the stuff working? Because it might be easier just to stick with that old working nandroid you know?
and if she the wife is happy life is good the woman is always right!
Stevo
If your loading a sense rom, you should try reprovisioning your phone after flashing, dial ##data# you need to enter your msl code, go to data profile, hit menu and select restore. the phone should reboot, it'll go through the hands free activation then check prl. Cancel that, let the rom load, then update your profile and prl. See if that does the trick.
I had the same thing happen to me on my wifes evo after loading mikg did that and 3g came back no issues
kernel?
I've been finding that the kernel is as unique as the ROM as far as the phone is concerned, and if you have the wrong combo goofy stuff starts happening... I've had a kernel recently knock out my dialer!!!??? several wipes and flashes root explorer apks etc later found the right kernel wiped flashed then wiped again reboot and boom no problem everything works.
Hey all.
I need some help!
I have a rooted Evo 4G, running MIK G Rom and today, out of the blue. I could not make any calls. Busy signal. I called a sprint guy and he said to wipe and reflash.
It worked, where I could use my phone (after I disabled google voice)
To make a long story short, I took it to Sprint. Something got screwed up where I tried to reflash and now I can't call my phone or call out. The error is that the number is no longer in service.
Sprint guys said that everything was cool from sprint standpoint..network etc and that I should reflash to a stock Rom
Is there a Rom out there that I can flash and NOT lose my Root? This is a last ditch effort. They ordered me a new phone, but won't be here for several days.
Bottom line..I want to try a stock Rom. Is there one out there that I won't lose root? I can always redo my Amon RA if I have too.
Thanks SO MUCH!

Firstly, I did several wipes and flashed two different ROMS. Can't use the phone or get a call. 4G works but not 3G?
I realize that there are lots of Stock Roms but I don't know which to use. ie. Does anyone have a suggestion of a good one that won't require me to re root, etc.
Thanks..just looking for a suggestion.
Try swagged out stock. Its a sense rom so you can update profile and prl when you get it flashed and also you can use dialer codes I believe in case you have to go that route

Thanks so much...could you please elaborate a little bit on the dialer codes?

For whatever reason I have not been offered the OTA L710VPLJ7 update yet. Keis says I'm up to date with L710VPLI3 which is BS. I'm "unrooted" by Voodoo OTA so the update hopefully won't have any problems. I don't care how I get or how I flash (zip, Odin, whatever) it but I'm not interested (for the moment) working with a custom/themed ROM. I just want a stock rooted phone so I can be up to date and work on making wifi hot spot work which I understand is a problem with Jelly Bean. If I can't get it to work I figure I can always resort to my ICS Nandriod backup.
Does anyone have a link to where the actual update might be?

That's great. Thanks. I'm guessing of all the multiple choices, this LJ7KernelWithBootanimationSupportFIXED.zip is the one I want. I can use all the battery help I can get. Would you suggest I do the modem flash Galaxy-S-fre3-LJ7FirmwareModemAIO.zip too?
And would you know if I'm safe to just do a cache and Dalvik cache wipe without full factory reset? It would seem so to me but would appreciate a second opinion.

You should be safe to do it without a full wipe. Personally I dont recommend the firmware if anything I say take the lj7 modem and flash just that by itself but really it dont matter
And if u want it heres the official ota modified for cwm/twrp flashing. No wipe necessary
http://androidfilehost.com/?fid=9390135922294523494
Hope you don't mind my caution here but if I'm reading you right http://androidfilehost.com/?fid=9390135922294523494 will basically provide me with the OTA update to JB but rooted - correct. This is exactly what I would prefer.
The main thing is that my wife's GS3 isn't rooted and she has JB now and is showing off by telling her camera "smile" and such. But mainly I want to be able to give her "technical support" by being able to tell her how to do and change things with the same screens she is looking at.

Some people have reported issues with the custom kernel. I've never flashed it. Flash one of the LJ7 roms. Odexed is totally stock, deodexed will give you the ability to add some of the mods you can find in other threads. Flashing either of those will also flash the stock LJ7 kernel. If you do flash the custom kernel and don't like it, you can simply reflash the rom without wiping to get the stock kernel back. Flashing the firmware/aio files will change your modem/radios. They don't have to match the rom. I went LJ7 for rom and firmware, but some report getting better reception with other modems. A lot seems to depend on your location and signal quality. I live in northern IL and only have 3g in my area. I have traveled into areas with LTE and found the LJ7 rom to work fine in both. Others swear by LI3, LIG, LIH, etc. It's super easy to flash them and see what works best for you. You'll find the older ones a little further down on the post I linked you to previously.
Some people flash the rom over ICS roms without issues. Others report problems when flashing over ICS. I wiped everything and did factory reset. When flashing over a JB rom, there shouldn't be any need for a factory reset. Flashing the firmware files definitely does not require a reset or data wipe.

Good data. Thanks. This will make you laugh. 3G? I'm in New York City, 200 feet west of Times Square. 4G is a complete joke. No matter what it constantly searches and drains my battery. If I didn't have the old Sprint unlimited plan I would have changed long ago becasue the Internet is soooo slow.

in case you didn't upgrade yet and still needed insight, no what my file is the official ota from Sprint. but it's modified so it won't check your system and throw the dreaded status 7 error. and you dont have to use stock recovery to flash. it being the actual OTA means wiping isnt needed. to have it rooted just flash the root from recovery zip right after its done
Thanks. I already did it and it's working fine. Hopefully OTA are now disabled becasue moving on from here Sprint will want to down-grade me while thinking they are up-grading me.
My only regret is no longer being able to get wifi hotspot. It used to work sooooo well on my SG2 with ICS (native) and was pretty OK on the GS3 with wifi teather. I'm planning on getting a Nexus 10 and want to be able to wifi so might revert although I'll try USB teather first.

can maybe try restoring your stock backup the flash a normal kernel...or even reflash the rom itself on top of it...are you restoring anything with titanium or any other restore methods? especially data or system data...system stuff always a nono but normal apps are most of the time ok but the data is iffy....did you have to change any of your data settings when jumpng to miui? like i seen you have to change settings to lte/gsm/cdma... since we dont use gsm that might be an issue on a stock rom... you need to change it back to lte/cdma auto i think and it will hook you up to your carrier properly........hope it helps
