Automated way to unroot your myTouch 4G (difficulty level 1) - myTouch 4G Android Development

So I am moving onto a new phone so I will not be supporting this thread anymore. Please help each other the best you can. Also if anyone wants to take over and support this thread feel free. Last but not least if anyone wants to use any of the items I put into this also feel free. Remember that android is made possible with contrbutions from viewers like you!
Sorry but I no longer have the files that were in the zip as my laptop that they were on no longer has a charger so I really don't have a way to pull them off until I come up with extra funds to buy a charger for that dinosaur!
This is a way to unroot only if you have followed the gfree method.
I have included my part7back up because I used it for two phones other then the one it was orginally pulled from and it restored s=on with no problem. Now I can not promise you that this will not completely eff up your device but like I said it has worked on the ones I've tested. llontop.m has used it for his device also and it worked no problem.
This will return you phone to stock (out of the box) with very little effort.
WARNING THIS COULD BRICK YOUR DEVICE TRY AT YOUR OWN WILL!!! I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING THAT MAY HAPPEN!!!
Please note I rezipped the files with 7zip so there shouldnt be any issues unzipping now
1. To use this simply download the zip and extract the two items to the root of your sdcard (ones a folder with three files in it and ones the PD15IMG)
2. Open terminal and type
su (press enter)
cd /sdcard/unroot (press enter)
sh unroot.sh (press enter
3. Let it work.
Some times at the end it will boot into fastboot rather then hboot. If this happens just scroll to bootloader and boot into it.
Hopefully this works for you all!!!
if you would like to continue to type the commands your self and use your own part7backup (although its not needed) could still follow my old guide.

Great work jjjackson56!
I've given this a try and so far everything is back to stock..Keep up the good work..
Current Phone: HTC Glacier (Mytouch 4g)

Oh ok thanks. So no need to go into clockwork recovery and restore a stock rom? all i have to do is put that file in my sdcard, reboot to bootloader and just let it load? thanks again

tried every method, no matter what i still have PVT SHIP S-OFF. Dont know why my S wont come back on. It says in terminal that its successfull whatever then to reboot to check if S-ON, but its still off. I know i've followed the correct steps. Do you think bestbuy will check for S-OFF if i just go and return it? i've returned my Nexus S before but i wasnt sure if they even booted into fastboot or not. What do you guys think?
this is what my screen says:

wowowowow. LOL. after trying everything i finally got S-ON!!! YES!!!!!!!
anywhoo, this will help for those who are just stuck, and no matter what it wont turn s back on!
I followed the same steps that Grankin01 posted but he forgot to mention a crucial step in his Reverting steps. you have to type in chmod 777 to make it execute.(he didnt include it in reverting steps, therefor when you went to the next step it just says "permission denied")
i did as follows.
1. Rename the part7backup file that you already have to something just so you know that it is the original backup.
2. Open up terminal emulator or adb shell and type "su" + enter to get root privileges.
3. Type "cd /data/local" and hit enter.
3.5 Type "chmod 777 gfree" and hit enter to make the program executable.
4. Now type "./gfree -f" + enter to run gfree again. It will disable wp on the emmc and remove the brq filter in the kernel. (as well as make another backup, which you can delete if you wish)
5. Now run the "dd if=/where/your/part7backup-numbers.bin of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p7" and it should show the output:
xxxx bytes in
xxxxbytes out
xxxxxxxxxx copied in blah blah blah
Finally worked for me after a week and a half with no responses on trying to put s back on. i hope it helps some people who couldnt get it working

@cdw9800 if you return a brick they wont be able to tell if s=on or s=off. I returned a mytouch3g brick that was rooted custom rom everything and never had any issuses.
@Nivek91 no just boot into bootloader no need to boot into anything else.

This is not a true "unrooting" process.
This only turns s=on.
Which be careful if you are using a not factory ROM this will thrown your phone for a loop. Since the security protocol will be looking for the stock image.

That is incorrect this reverts the gfree process thus turning radio s=on then once its done it boots you into bootloader to flash the PD15IMG which flashes stock spl recovery and rom

Believe what you want. I was running Cyanogen's CM6.1.2RC2, stored the PD15IMG on my SDcard and booted into bootloader and it reverted back to a stock fashion. didn't even bother with the unroot.sh.
and ./gfree is different than s=off/s=on... you can flash custom ROMs or any flash-able .zip via the recovery w/o having done the ./gfree...
and i've done the "sh unroot.sh" and it's done nothing but turn s=on.

Cool but this is for those that used g-free. I've done the straight flash from the bootloader and I never got S-ON, it just returned me to stock like you stated. But many people here need to get it back to complete stock so they can get their returns/exchanges done legit style

Swithc off the phone, then press volume down while pressing also the power button untill it boot on the bootloader (white screen)..There u will see on the top S-ON !!!!!
If u see S-OFF mean YOU (or someone else if u bought on ebay) did a full root on it with some specific procedure
If u have S-OFF but no root permission, just run an RUU and then root again with unrevoked.

there are phones that come from factory with S-OFF.. read somewhere it's developer phone or something.
if S-OFFed using AlphaRev, make sure hboot is not updated too when running RUU, otherwise the security will be turned on again.
back on topic, not sure why that version of Desire can't be rooted with Unrevoked.. read the other day someone else was having the problem too.

I'm not too sure why some come factory s-off, but considering it is, have you tested to see if fastboot works? If it does, all you need to do, is download a recovery image (I use RA-Desire) put the phone in fastboot mode and run "fastboot flash recovery INSERT FILENAME". Assuming that works, you can just install a custom rom with root included. Unfortunately this is all just theory as my phone was s-on when I got it. So do anything at your own risk
Edit: just another thought. Because you are s-off, it might be possible to go into the default recovery/bootloader and use "adb pull /" to pull a complete copy of your system etc (as a backup), and then use "adb push ROMFOLDER /" to install a custom rom, although if the rom normally runs scripts while flashing as a zip, this might not be possible unless someone sends you a copy from their already installed phone, same as before, do at your own risk because I have no idea if it would work

Well i believe so. The phone i m talking about was destined to be a demo in a store (sth vodafone)(it came in a plain white box with just the charger inside, when i tried to download htc sync from htc it could not recognise the imei and it had a demo video that appeared every 2 minutes) Actually i'm not sure, because i first noticed the s-off after a failed attempt with unrevoked(before i did not notice if it was on or off). The phone is generally untouched, as i got it brand new(na'nai kala h mana pou douleuei sti vodafone). bEFORE attempt rooting, i had updated OTA to 2.2 froyo(wwe unbranded). @cr1960 i have not that version. My current spes are:
BRAVO PVT1 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT 0.93.0001
RADIO 5.11.05.27
*ROM: 2.2 OTA official htc update v.2.29.405.2
@w.0.o.t: how to ruu? is it safe? do i lose settings or data?
@NeoDriver: how do I test fastboot?
Thanks for the quick responses!
[edit] i have found another guy with s-off that he couldnt root with unrevoked(same error), but he was on stock 2.1 with 0.7 hboot
There's nothing above the S-OFF part when in HBOOT which is in pink at all no?
Quick question, when you go to the bootloader, does it display "ALPHAREV" at the top? It's just that your HBOOT (v0.93.0001) with S-OFF, is what the alpharev s-off gives.
Either way, to test fastboot, power off your phone and plug it into your USB. Hold the BACK button on the front of your phone and power it on, let go once you are in fastboot. You should be shown a white screen very similar to the bootloader but it should say FASTBOOT USB. In the tools folder of the Android SDK is fastboot. Open a cmd prompt, cd to the tools directory and run "fastboot devices". Your device should be there. Next thing to do would be "fastboot flash recovery FILENAME"
Im just not too sure if these fastboot commands are only active in AlphaRev's images =/
Oh and running an RUU is perfectly safe but as far as I know, it is a complete wipe of everything!
Hope this helps
when in bootlader i see:
BRAVO PVT1 SHIP S-OFF

[edit] @neodriver: i can get into fastboot usb, but for the rest, i wait for the sdk to finish downloading
Hmm, Odd =P
How did trying fastboot go? Any luck with flashing a recovery?
check my previous post
[edit] Im having a little problem with the fastboot. installed the sdk, navigated innto cmd to "tools"folder and found a "fastboot.exe" no fastboot services. Tried to execute it with "start fastboot.exe" and it failed(could not find "AdbWinApi.dll"). any clue ?
you literally just need to type fastboot, thats it, it should then give you a list of stuff. use fastboot devices to make sure your phone is being seen by it.

You don't run the files in the folders, you use a command prompt to run the fastboot commands
still cant find AdbWinApi.dll, trying to re install sdk...
[edit] reinstalled and retried but it still cant find the dll. somewhere i read that i should install htc sync, will that do ?
Run SDK Manager.exe and download "Android SDK tools". I forgot it doesnt come with everything nowadays.
Ok, after just updating my SDK, it seems like google has moved the dll you need. Copy the fastboot.exe from /tools to /platform-tools then run it from that folder =) Thats should make it work
thanks for the tip. followed it and did a quick vid. if you'd like check it out, i think it went good
That does seem to be working, if you wanna be brave you could try flashing a custom recovery and see if it completes

Well, here we go again. how? someone gave me these instructions, but im not sure:
Download any rooted ROM you like and place on SD.
If you want a ROM with A2SD+, then partition SD properly before copying ROM.zip
Download AmonRA 2.0.1 http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4481275/reco...ire-v2.0.1.img
Flash it with Android Flasher http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=794638
Boot device into recovery and flash the ROM.zip from the SD.
I also found a guide here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=814381
which also has a solution to the cid error i get, but is the risk worth taking?
Anyway got some general questions:
1) to flash a rom you need to be root or root is only for pre-rooted roms?
2)i see custom recovery everywhere but no explanation on "what is it", "what does it do"
3)is there a way to backup email and sms from the htc mail apps?
4)will a factory reset delete anything on my sd card?
Guys im really sorry to post such n00b questions(i hate being n00b). please excuse me

[Q] Suddenly broken screen?

Hello
Today I woke up at 02:00am first - My phone started vibrating all over the time, from hard to low. (hard vibrate, low vibrate, medium, short pause, low vibrate...) So my phone acted really strange. I just pull out the battery because it didn't react to any button and continued with sleeping.
Today I tried to start it. I've heard a short vibrate, and that was it. I even can't see any charging light when I plug my cellphone in. But then I connected my phone to my computer, and tada, adb works. So i've installed a VNC app over adb and then I've connected to my phone, and I've seen that Sense and everything works. So the handy itself is still working, but the screen is just black and all the touch buttons don't react. Also the charging light is "dead". What happened? It didn't fell or something like that.
Also my phone is rooted, with custom recovery and custom ROM. I've got still garantuee - So what should I do now?
Greetings

Hmm...it doesnt look good.
Did you have your CPU overclocked?
EDIT: It seems like the LCD screen and the digitizer have broke. Unless you want to try to replace them yourself which is possible but very fiddly, you may have to send it back. First though lets see what others say.

No, it was always at 998Mhz, which is the standard clockrate. I'm not a fan of overclocking - I really loved this smartphone and I didn't risk things like overclocking
I also thought about sending it back, but the question is what should I do before sending it back? And how? (Deflashing, S-ON...?)
Greetings
PMTheQuick
Sending it back in its current state may be a problem because your mods will have voided the warranty.
A possible solution is to use the s-off tool to revert back to s-on and standard cid . Then using adb, push pd98img.zip onto the sdcard. Then "adb reboot bootloader" and I believe it will flash the stock rom (pd98img) automatically.
Then you'll be unrooted and free .
HOWEVER DON'T TAKE THIS AT FACE VALUE, WAIT FOR OTHERS TO CONFIRM FIRST .

Really good idea so far. The only problem is, the pd198.zip would be read and after that you must press a few keystrokes. Power off/on and the volume keys are still working, so that isn't a problem. I just need a friendly guy who can tell me when I must press which key

You can try to flash an original RUU. As far as i know there is no need to press a button on the phone.
You said adb works?
Try:
Adb reboot bootloader. Then wait a bit.
Run an official RUU and follow the steps. You should be good to go then.
But there is one thing: do you had radio s-off and super cid before? If so, you should run jkoljos radio tool and revert to stock cid and s-off again.
Then reboot to bootloader and continue with the steps i mentioned above

Does a RUU replace my custom recovery (ClockWorkMod) with the original HTC one? And is the RUU with the .exe right for that time? Or must I have an PD98.img? Which one should I take, I bought it unbranded: http://www.iloveabath.co.uk/index.php?dir=RUUs/

Yes, recovery should be replaced.
I'd say take the 1.32.405.6 wwe. This is the last rootable OTA and your DHD probably came with it.

The radio S-OFF tool didn't work. Always unknown error - And i've found the reason, before I can S-ON it, I have to do this:
"Flash stock ROM (RUU, not over 1.7)"
And that will be... amazingly hard. I've got all these mods:
SuperCID
Radio S-OFF
Engineering S-OFF
Custom Recovery
Custom ROM
My actual idea, it would be great if someone can confirm me it is in the right order:
Changing CID & Radio S-ON
Thats my big problem! It doesn't work with my actual ROM. I need to downgrade - But how? Clockwork Mod has annoying "Are you sure" selections like: "Flash? No, No, No, Yes, No, No" - Impossible to find that out without a display. And I can't flash any ROM, because I need adb checked by default - Otherwise I won't have access again to shell, and without shell I can't start my VNC Server, and without all that I can't do anything more and must send it like that to the garantuee. I've found an http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=939982 Raidroid ROM, with standard ADB if I understand that right. But how should I flash it?
Restoring H-Boot and Recovery
Code:
adb shell
su (if you get permission denied, you have to do Visionary temproot)
getprop ro.cid (this will tell you your stock CID, we will use that later, so write it down. It has eight digits.)
busybox dd if=/sdcard/recovery.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p21 (it will replace clockworkmod with original recovery)
busybox dd if=/sdcard/hboot_original.bin of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18 (ONLY if you had ENG S-OFF, it will give you back SHIP bootloader)
sync (wait 10 secs after that, then you can close the adb shell window)
Flashing RUU
Everything should be away now... After all that everything should be allright and I can give my phone to guarantee.

Hi, I have exactly the same problem. Did you find this out?
Did not notice any vibration, but otherwise I have the same problem. able only to see the screen image in daylight. When I tilt it.
Only volume and on / off button that works.
If this is a hardware problem, it will not mean anything to the warranty if it is rooted or not. In order for HTC to say it it must be a connection between the problem and the reason for it.
if you can see screen i day light then your backlight and digitizer is broken also rooting your phone void the warranty no matter what..... if you can see the screen in light you should be able to restore its original rom, and send it back to htc.

Thank you for your response. You've probably absolutely right.
The screen is so weak that I hardly see anything.
Is there anything I can do to be able to see more, for example to connect to my PC?

[Q] Stuck in "quietly brilliant" loop

Hi,
my rooted Desire seems to be totally knackered. I really need some advice here before I just ring up and order a new phone!
When I turn it on it just seems to repeat the "quietly brilliant" animation forever.
I have tried clearing storage in HBOOT, that did not help.
If I try and enter RECOVERY in Hboot I just get a red warning triangle.
If I then press VOLUP+POWER I get into Android system recovery but it also says "E:Can't open .cache/recovery/command". Doing a Wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache doesn't fix my boot loop problem
However, I can the "Apply sdcard:update.zip" and that gets me into Clockworkmod recovery. In this recovery I am able to navigate up and down the menu with the volume keys but the trackball button doesn't actually select any of the menu items. The power, home & menu buttons just turn the screen off.
I'd really appreciate any help at all!

It might sound odd but it was a long time ago - I don't actually remember.
But after I rooted I installed a standard HTC ROM... I did this because my carrier was taking ages to supply updates.
Then at some point I foolishly applied an OTA update o) to the rooted ROM. This may be what has caused my CWM recovery to stop working.
However, after doing this my phone has been perfectly usable for around a year - until now.
I'd run a ruu here and root it with revolutionary again.

I have tried to install the latest RRU via FASTBOOT but I get:
ERROR[131]: CUSTOMER ID ERROR
I presume this is because I need a goldcard? If so I will try again when I get home later - I have a spare SD card there.
Thanks for getting me started.

Actually, can someone cofirm if I need a goldcard for flashing an RRU? The reason I ask is because I've been searching for a method to create a goldcard when you only have FASTBOOT access.
If I don't need a goldcard, then I'm heading in the wrong direction. If I do need a goldcard I don't seem to be able to find a way of creating one without a working phone. I don't have the original gold card I used to root the device with in the first place. I should have kept it.

No, the only access I have to my phone is via FASTBOOT. I have read that the ID required to make a goldcard is based on the card itself rather than the phone so my next plan is to try creating the goldcard on another device to use in my Desire.
that is another way good luck fingers crossed
I created a goldcard and applied the RRU successfully! Thanks for all the advice.
Unfortunately I think i have a hardware problem since my phone always starts up in safe mode and I get a long vibration during start-up.
My optical trackball button also doesn't work (hence the problems selecting items in CWM recovery). I think it is permanently pressed which explains why it always starts in safe mode.
It looks like I'll be looking a new phone after all. Samsung Galaxy S2 I think.

[Q] Accidentally updated boot and lost root HTC G2`

First off, I'm fairly noobish. I've had my G2 rooted since the phone came out. I've used CWM and tried out about a dozen ROMs successfully.
Tonight I made the mistake of not having PC10IMG.zip present on my sdcard after flashing a new rom and pushed the wrong button when it asked if I wanted to update my bootloader. This is the ROM I was looking to try out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1493404
Now, if I have PC10IMG.zip present when I go into the bootloader I get the message "Main Version is older! Update Fail! Press <POWER> to reboot.
If I rename the file, the bootloader will load successfully and I can get into Clockwork Recovery but CW Recovery doesn't actually do anything and I'm pretty sure it's because I lost root and s-off when I accidentally updated the bootloader. Any time I choose a menu option in CW Recovery, it just goes to the CWM emblem and sits there. If I press power or menu key, it brings me back to the menu list.
I have several roms and backups on my SD card, including a backup I made before all of this happened tonight.
This is what is at the top of my bootloader:
VISION PVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.82.0000
RADIO-26.02.01.15_M2
eMMC-boot

So basically, I have a phone that will not boot past HTC screen and any attempt to go into recovery or factory data reset sends me into ClockworkMod Recovery v5.0.2.7 which doesn't work because I've lost root and s-off.
I even tried using PC10IMG_Vision_TMOUS_1.19.531.1_Radio_12.21.60.09b_26.02.01.15_M2_release_149459_signed renamed to PC10IMG.zip and get the message "main version is older, update failed"
Did I brick my G2?
Any help is very appreciated! I'm good at following directions and am willing to do the work to teach myself the various steps. I just couldn't find this particular scenario anywhere online. So if there's a way to say "Do this (link to instructions), this (another link), etc etc"; I'll gladly wade through all the guides. That way I'm not making anyone write up a step-by-step if the work has already been done.
In the spirit of trading knowledge; I work as a repair technician for a cellphone repair shop (physical repairs) so if anyone has any questions regarding doing physical repairs; I'm happy to help out. Make a post and PM so I know to go read it and I'll help anyway I can.

Some of these instructions seem like they need the phone to boot...
For example, I can use adb to push everything except for the files that need to go into /sdcard/
I have another phone that I can just drop the files onto the sdcard root, however there are some other areas that aren't working either
adb shell /data/local/tmp/psneuter
returns 'Failed to set prot mask (Inappropriate ioctl for device)'
This is happening because without the phone booting, the sdcard isn't accessible, right?
C:\Users\Jove\Downloads\g2>adb push su /sdcard/
failed to copy 'su' to '/sdcard//su': Read-only file system
Flash back to your stock rom (whatever carrier your with) then reroot you'll be able to put it all the adb commands once get a rom on your device. If your device was bricked you wouldn't be able to boot it up

The phone does not boot past the white HTC screen. Clockwork Recovery doesn't work. Renaming the stock rom to PC10IMG.zip doesn't work.
Is there another way to flash to the stock rom?
Also, how do you "thank" responders? Looking for the button and haven't found it
Can you get into the bootloader. Press power+vol down. If so, can't you just drop the factory rom on an sdcard and name it pc10img.
If you can get in the bootloader your not bricked.
EDIT : what was on the pc10img file that you updated? Try and get ahold of a guy named nipqer. That dude is money, he would definitely be able to help you lol
My hboot is oo.76.2000
Can you just flash the older hboot? Maybe that is why it says your trying to flash a newer version. Is the hboot you have on there now the dz? You might have to flash the g2 hboot, then put the stock rom back on, downgrade and reroot.

Grab the latest rom for your phone from here http://www.shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Vision
Run the exe or extract the rom.zip from it and put it on your sdcard as PC10IMG.zip.
Do a full downgrade and root.
Or you could maybe try run misc_version in recovery to allow the downgrade in the first place

the million dollar question?
i dont have any pc10img files on my sd card
Thanks so much for the replies.
Nipqer, I downloaded the stock rom as instructed (I actually already had the same file, but redownloaded just in case) renamed it to PC10IMG.zip, put it in my sdcard root, started the phone in bootloader, and got the Main Version is older! message.
My bootloader still reads:

If I remove the PC10IMG.zip and load the bootloader, any option I choose on the bootloader list like Recovery or Factory Data Reset; loads up Clockwork Recovery, which is non-functional. None of the menu items actually work in CW Recovery.
Am I missing a step here?
As far as the question as to what was on the PC10IMG.zip that I updated from... that's just it, it didn't prompt me to update until I had removed that file from my sd card and then it was just a matter of pressing the wrong button to tell it NO.
Ok, so you had a file named pc10img.zip on your sdcard, randomly? My phone will only want to update if I have a file named pc10img.zip on the sdcard, otherwise it just skips through.
It updated to whatever that file name was, that would help to know. Did you have the dz boot on your phone?

I honestly don't know which hboot/rom it read when it did the update. I had a PC10IMG.zip on there that it had been using for a ROM from nearly 8 months ago and I don't even remember which rom I was using. I want to say it was PyroMecha_Micro-2.3.5 but thats a shot in the dark. It's the last ROM I remember switching to.
To the best of my recollection, here is what I did... I tried using CWM to install:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1493404
And when it wouldn't work, I removed the existing PC10IMG I had on my SD Card, rebooted, it booted fine... went into CWM, installed the ROM, it said it installed correctly and then froze on white HTC screen. I left it there for over 10 mins and then pulled the battery and used voldown+pwr to load bootloader; that's when it prompted me to update (I believe it was VolUp to update, VolDown to decline) either way, I ended up updating it.
I've attempted to go through the instructions for misc_version and could not get the fre3vo debug to work even after reading the instructions for narrowing down the debug search parameters.
I was able to download the following
Download this PC10IMG.zip file, which contains the DesireZ Engineering HBOOT,
My bootloader reads this PC10IMG.zip and does not prompt to update or anything. However, any attempt to recovery or factory data reset sends me into Clockwork Recovery. Once in CW Recovery, no matter which menu option I choose, it brings up the Blackhat with an orange arrow forming a circle beneath the hat. The home key and the power button bring the CWR menu back up. Basically CWR is non-functional.
This leads me to believe that I AM using the DZ Hboot, am I right?

I actually have the entire clockwork backup I did before I started. Is that of any use? I also have previous backups from last summer.
Just in case I haven't said it enough: Thanks everyone! It's been a learning experience and I'm still hopeful that I can get this thing going.
I'm working right now, and its hard to comment back, but I know, I think on irc channel #g2root they can give you immediate help.

Nipqer is there a way to change the version when my phone won't boot past the white HTC screen?
I can connect using fastboot usb and I can connect with adb if I let the phone boot into the white HTC screen.
However, as stated before, my CW recovery doesn't work when I try to load into recovery and I cannot access my SD card from my terminal on my PC (when using adb while the phone is on white HTC screen)
It sounds like I have the exact issue that is in the thread mrbmg just posted but I don't see a fix for it under the circumstances I have.
If we can find a way to resolve this under these circumstances, I'll gladly write up a How-To for it.
Thanks!
I hear that. I think that is the thread you are looking for. I've done that before when changing out my radios, but I never flashed my roms through the pc10img...
I try to make it a habit when I'm using the pc10img option off my sdcard to switch it back to another name.. it happens though, I've never unrooted that way though. Should be interesting to fix.

Yeah, I definitely don't feel like it is UN-fixable but I'm learning as I go for sure. I cringed the moment I hit the wrong button on that update LOL

Hi folks,
quick intro ans explanation, I've started a new job, been given a Desire (Bravo) to use until the phone contracts come up in a few months. I need to use this for business, so I dont want anything to extreme, I have upgraded with the official GB firmware (it was on 2.2.1? first, then OTA update to 2.2.??, then i found the official GB and flashed that.
I'm coming from the Galaxy 3 forum (GT-i5801) been flashing that for a few years, so i understand the basics, root/custom rom/recovery etc., even rooted the wifes Galaxy Mini for her to give a boost with ram manager/set cpu and off course app2sd/link2sd. These are the same reasons i want to root the Desire, lack of storage, be able to run ram managers and clean off the bloatware, but still be stable on stock rom. The Galaxy 3 can be clean flashed with ODIN, or through CWM with GB/ICS/JB roms, the Mini was even just with an update zip.
I have been researching the past few nights, watching tuts, various forums and sites, and i must admit i'm still lost, I was about to try and flash, when i read somewhere that some methods may not work with official GB...
I cant even find the HBOOT USB setting..... I dont fancy having to go to work and say I bricked the phone ( i know, always a chance, take no responsibility etc. etc.)
Dont want to spam the board to much, even if someone can pm me with the best way forward, I've even read some stuff that seemed contradictory, i only want to get root/su to move all my apps etc with TB, and clean up a bit (bloatware).

You need to run fastboot command from the fastboot directory.. so if it's for example in "C:\SDK\platform-tools"
Then first you need to do following: (in CMD window)
cd C:\SDK\platform-tools
Then you can use fastboot commands.
Also word of advise: use 4ext recovery, it's better in every possible way.
You dont even need to use fastboot, once you're S-OFF you can flash recovery using this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1751258&highlight=4ext
If you want to use fastboot just unpack PB99IMG.zip and flash recovery.img

Installing the PB99IMG.zip was a piece of cake, maybe a good idea to update that tut, with this as another "solution".
Restored everything with TB using Link2sd, just need to erase bloatware, check all apps, and see what difference Rammanager etc will make.
What should I do, ask the mod to delete this thread, or let it sit for the time being?
