This is a known issue with swype. After reboot it will need to be reactivated.

Swype fix
Dont bother going through settings, just open an email or sms, long press on the text box, change input method to touch input, then repeat, selecting swype. It's a little quicker. Hope to see a real fix soon!

Trust me when I tell you that doing this gets REAL old REAL fast. I do it, but it is disheartening to jump through this hoop when you go to do something and realize, ooops, you can't because it turned itself off again.
Have you guys tried fixing your permissions in rom manager or cw recovery? If that doesn't work, uninstall and reinstall. I've has this problem previously and this always fixed it.
I had some issues with a nightly a little while back (maybe 10 or 11?) that all seemed to start with trying to get swype to work and I had to completely wipe and go back to virtuous. I haven't had time to flash the latest nightly yet and try again though...
In the end you're basically running "beta" software on an alpha ROM. All those bugs probably don't play well together - it's a lot of buggy software for one device.

seems like everytime I open a text message and go to respond, the keys dont work. I can feel the haptic feedback but no text is entered. I have to exit the app and reenter.. Its not only in Messages, but all apps. Other buttons on the screen seem to work, but the buttons do not.
anyone else been noticing this?
Yup!
I've noticed it most typing in the text box of forums... though it is inconsistent.

Yeah mine does that too and it takes a few seconds to get out of the loop then it can type again. Kinda weird wonder if any fix to this.
Keyboard Issues
+1 to this issue
One exception: My keyboard is typing but it doesn't visually show what I'm typing. When I close the keyboard and reopen it the words I typed then show, but nothing typed further will show unless I close the keyboard and reopen it again.......Again this issue is inconsistent.
I've only had this issue since the 2.2 update.
Anyone got a fix yet?
is anyone running the Overclock widget? It seems like once the message pops up "overclock widget has been granted superuser permissions" everything returns to normal... until I go to respond again ahhhhh
i have the same problem i was wondering if anyone knows how to fix it i thought my phone was goin bad really quickly because i like just got it a couple weeks ago but i dont know what the deal is
if i goto messages i can press all the keys and nothin comes up and if i go to landscape the box is gray and i feel it has to kick in later
another problem i have been having is when i click on to call someone itll call them like 20 seconds later instead of immediately anyone else get this problem too?
i find that if I turn the phone into landscape mode, click the bubble, then turn the phone right side up again.. It works... seems more like a software bug then anything.. or something to do with the sensors.
My friend's Evo running stock FroYo has had this problem. I haven't seen it, but I am running a custom rom. I wonder if that makes a difference.

Have u guys tried a different keyboard? Like the Droid x keyboard?
I'm on fresh too and I notice this bug. Only in messages though.

I'm running stock froyo and this happens quite often to me as well. If I wait a few seconds after I notice nothing typing on my screen it will eventually catch up and let me type normally again. This happens daily.

What keyboard are people using? I thought it was a Swype thing, but it sounds like the problem is more general.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Yea it is a general problem i uninstalled all my keyboards and have the stock one and i still get the same problem
From time to time swype stops working. That is the swoe finger trace shows up, but no words appear and the swype border flashes blue. To restore you have to long press on a blank message, change input back to the stock keyboard, and then do the same but select swype.
Anyone know if there is a solution to stop the problem?
Sounds like your version of swype is one that is expired, thats what happened before mine stopped working completely. Maybe try to find a newer version?
There's confirmation on the swype website (forum) that this is a bug with the beta. Some users reported they were able to fix by uninstalling swype and swype installer. Rebooting and then downloading and installing again. Hasn't worked for me though. Every time I reboot the phone swype stops working. I have to long press to change input to another keyboard then back to swype to fix. Clearing cache and data doesn't help either.

I can say with out a doubt, it is a swype issue. I have been in the beta since I got my DInc and its been a problem since 5 builds ago. They updated or changed something in either android or Swype that messed it up. Now if you reboot the phone, you will have to change input to a different keyboard and then change it back for it work.

Both my wife and I have registered swype beta accounts. Every time she reboots she has to jump through these hoops to get swype to work. She is also on a stock, s-on incredible, which may or may not make a difference.
My version, otoh, works flawlessly so far. <shrug>
just flashed the new CM7 and whenever im texting someone certain letters launch apps like if i press "S" it launches like the web or something. i searched on the web but cant find an answer. can someone tell me where to fix this??

Had this problem before. A simple reboot did the trick for me. :]
rebooted.. it worked for awhile. then it started up again. seems to be on and off.. very random. i looked thru everything on my phone thinking "maybe" theres some option thats making it do this, but nothing. its quite annoying when im trying to txt.

I'm assuming you're talking about the physical keyboard; its a quick keys bug, just push the search button first and it'll disable it

There actually is a setting for keyboard shortcuts - clear all of them and the problem goes away. No bug, the ROM has the shortcuts set when you flash it for some reason. Flash a newer ROM and it shouldn't do it - or just clear the shortcuts.
I can't look in my phone right now to tell you where the setting is at but it might do some good for you to look through them and become familiar so you don't call something a bug that isn't.

yeah i figured this was the problem. i looked through my phone pretty throughly and didn't see any options though. I'll look again and get back to this thread n report.
this has been happening on and off to my phone for the last couple of weeks, I am still running RC4. it is very strange, the ROM worked fine for a while and now does this every so often, pressing E opens email app, S opens search. a reboot fixed everytime and then for what seems like no reason at all, it starts again.
will go to stable this week and hopefully it will go away. just thought i'd add another device to the list of ones with the issue.
i have no shortcuts setup at all, and have double checked. have been using CM7 since the start and it never happened prior to RC4.
When this happen just hit the "symb/search" button and the keyboard will work again
Sorry it took so long to get back with the cure but here it is:
settings>applications>quick launch
In there is where all the hw keyboard shortcut settings are. Clear any you don't want, create new ones, or whatever. Clear the ones that are giving you issues and this should solve it. If you ever clear your user data (factory reset) then it clears these settings also, so you may have to go in and delete the shortcuts again.
Hope this helped!
thank you! i cleared it all.

Anyone esle having this Problem?
Longer time after Booting, several Buttons on the Hardware Keyboard bring me into other apps while writing SMS for example...
The following Chracters send me directly into an app:
e -> email
s -> sms (android sms, not my standard app called "handcent")
c -> contacts
b -> browser
p -> mediaplayer
Thats kinda weird Oo I can't use my hardware keyboard to type Text, cause i jump out of my actual app all the time -.-
Whut to do ?
EDIT: Everytime after rebooting, my Keyboard works well again! But 12 hours later, i will have same problem -.-
EDIT 2 : I am running Cyanogen 7.0.3
I have the same exact problem. It's irritating! Happens about 15 or 20 minutes after rebooting.
EDIT: Currently on the CM7 nightlies. Can anyone confirm if this is just a CM7 issue or widespread?
I don't have nightly, i'm using 7.0.3 stable
Never had that in ANY Mod before
Try hitting the "search" key on the keyboard. That should "unstick" it.
I had that problem yesterday. I'll repost if it comes back up.

Ok, So this is an Hardware Bug? Or keeps the Software meaning that the button is still pressed, even when he isn't ? Oo
@ blackknightavalon: You won't need to wait a long time ^^
Hi
I also have this kind of problem on my french DZ.
I've tried almost all roms on this forum, it doesn't happen on Sense roms, only on cyanogen-like roms.
I'm actually on 7.1-RC1, I've just tried the Miui.us rom and both force me to reboot to use my physical keyboard again.
I'll try to replace the files in /system/usr/keychars and keylayout with those found on sense roms, to see if it corrects it.
Any idea/workaround I could also check ?
I'm having the same trouble now on my Desire Z with the stock rom after the update to Gingerbread 2.3.3 has been rolled out.
Any idea how to get rid of it? It really is rather irritating...! ;-)
im not sure what causes it but if you hold your Search button for about 3-4 seconds the problem will go away
It's quick launch; go into application settings and clear them all out

Ok so, ever since the LI3 update, my auto correct is broken, i just upgraded to JB. STILL HAVE THE ISSUE. No one seems to beable to help me, samsung claimed it would be fixed next update which was JB and its still broken.. this only happened to some groups of people. I have an option to send it in for service but i use my phone for work. i cant give it up for a week of shipping+a week of it being worked on+a week of shipping back to me.. can someone please give me suggestions? ive formatted, ive factory reset in every form (from settings, keypad code, and hard button reset), ive wiped all settings, and all of that.. someone please try to help me out? D=
Im so tempted just to get a different phone even though i love it so much.. its so frustrating when you have an important conversation you have to reply quickly to, but cant because every letter you press shows up and doesnt auto correct into what you meant =/
(Yes the topic is just a harsh term)
I belive it HAS to be something that does not get wiped during a factory reset but idk what or how to access it.
Happens to me constantly. When I get annoyed with correcting myself I switch over to Swype temporarily but honestly have found NO fix for it on my end either.

When i swype is corrects but only when swyping =/ tapping on keys does NOTHING. Samsung is worthless in helping with this national issue, i just want to bang my head on a wall =( Im trying to trouble shoot it right now.. seeing if factory reset after jb install will fix it.. and keep my account unlinked from my phone with only stock apps and see what happens
and looks like bear bones is the same.. WHAT COULD IT BE!
Unsure but I am actually someone who htes downloading and installing third party apps in order to take the position of an already installed app except for browsers and occasionally Launchers. I personally love the Stock Samsung keyboard but just wish this feature worked and I would be in love.

Any chance of taking it back to the Sprint store and getting a replacement? I know chances are you won't get a NIB phone, proba refurb, but if it truly is a software glitch I don't see how they can't replace it. I also realize it's not the same as a phone not working at all, but they do promote unlimited texting and if there is something that is stopping that from happening, i.e. typing legibly, I would hope they would rectify it. I know the techs at my local store would bust their balls trying to get it fixed.
Ok, lets just entertain each other for a second. What do you have Selected in Auto Correction? Modest, Aggresive, Very Aggressive?

Once i upgraded to the Galaxy S3 i was immediately turned off by the Samsung stock keyboard. Then i found SwiftKey3, Ill never go back to a stock keyboard again. The predictive text is incredible. May be a paid app but its the best money you could spend on one.
