So here's what I did:
Some 4-5 months ago, I purchased Tmos month-to-month plan. I did not sign any contracts. I simply got a SIM card and put it in my Nexus One and voila, everything worked just fine (data included).
The other day I decided to take advantage of TMos G2 for free and sign a contract. However, since I wanted to keep both SIM cards BUT use the old phone number (old SIM card) in the new phone (G2), I simply put the old SIM card in the G2. Guess what? The internet doesn't work. No matter what address I try to go to, I get "Subscription upgrade required" message. ('your data plan does not work with this device').
NOTE: I rooted my phone and am running CM7
So, what I was thinking of doing is the following:
1) Change the DNS to OpenDNS in resolv.conf (is this possible)?
OR
2) Change the IMEI code somehow (with gfree?) to match my N1's IMEI code. Is this possible?
OR
3) Call TMobile.
I'm at school right now so I'll try those, in that order, once I get home, but I would appreciate if anyone could tell me whether any of the aforementioned options would work.
Thanks!
edit: nvm, called tmobile, they just had to activate "android feature" on my plan, which is free.
what is this android feature you're talking about? is that the 20 dlls for android phones plan?

Newer android phones need an android web plans, even if u have those web on your sim the G2 IMEI reads your web plan and it doesn't recognize it.. so wat I'm trying to say is purchase android web plan
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
I think #2 on your list is illegal.
Since you got the G2 on contract, they automatically added the data plan. You need the data plan ported to your old number instead of the new one. Call T-Mobile, they will fix it.
Yeah, changing the IMEI of your phone is quite illegal. I highly recommend that you don't do that.

DONE!!!!
This is confirmed to work with T-zones! Because I have T-zones!
I have t-zones as well.
when I change my phone in my t-mobile to either a bb9700 or mytouch3g, and try to add visual voice mail.....the system tries to remove my 5.99 t-zones.
any way past this?
Hmmm, if Tmobile tries to remove the T-zones, I think it is quite risky...just like using an Android phone with T-zones.
I also have the $5.99 plan, but I'm sticking with Windows phone since all Android phones have been switched to $25-30/month data plans.
do you have to install it to the main mem cus i have it on the card and it says getting account status ad i get a txt that i know is ment for the program cus its from 129 and says//wm:status:st= blah blah. but the program is not picking ut up

I installed the program to the main memory. I had that come up before I changed the phone online. Once I did, and activated the software, it didn't do that again.
Hmmm, I'm a bit scared to do this lol
I switched to the MyTouch 3G (pink one) and added the "VISUAL VOICE MAIL", but it needs me to add the "Android $30 internet" and submit my changes to my monthly bill.
Did you submit it and then change back to a "dummy phone" choice?
Thanks!
If you had the grandfathered 5.99 T-Zones before, they will force you to take the $30 plan and switching to the dummy phone will not bring it back. Read the other thread.

Dang, that means OP got very lucky He has the same plan
I got it working....
I had the same trouble....
Trying to activate Visual Voice mail WILL force you to sign up for the $30 android data plan. As the Data plan is already "selected" and you cannot uncheck it.
Here is what I did....
1) Changed my Phone to MyTouch.
2) Added the Visual Voice mail.
3) Accepted the service change (knowing that I am accepting the $30 Android data plan instead of the regular smart phone data plan, which is in every way the same and is only $25).
4) After this you will have the Visual Voice mail working.
5) Change the phone back to TP2 in your account.
6) Call T-mobile and tell them you accidently changed your plan to Android Data Plan and you own/use TP2.
7) They will gladly change it back for you, because TP2 "technically" is a smart phone and not an Android phone.
You will be left with your old plan and the new visual voice mail...
I think tmobile is changing the data plan price from 25 to 30 anticipating the soon to be established 4G coverage. Once that is completed, any new data connection will be charged $30. Keep your plan unchanged, you might get grandfathered in with a better coverage.
This isn't working for me...
Edit: I just had to wait a few hours for the provioning to work.

this is what i get if i try and add it with a touch pro2
i cant duplicate this , it also tried to add the $30 data plan too.
EDITEDITEDITEDIT!!!!!!
whooot whoot.
I followed the OP's orginal post. I too was forced to get upgraded to the $30 data plan.
I called up a friend that works at Tmobile. He was able to just add it to the account. took all of 30 seconds to text him to do it!
I have....
$89.99 retention plan for two lines unlimited voice
$5.99 each line tzones
$4.99 300 texts each line
and now visual voice mail!
i suppose one can call up and get a stupid custermer service agent to just add it. this was seems too easy, walk in to a tmobile store and ask to have it turned on. thats it.

Hi everyone, I bought an Sprint HTC Evo 4g that had been flashed to cricket wireless. When it had no service the cricket "welcome to cricket" voice would answer, then one day it reverted to sprint. Anyways, I just got it hooked up with the $55 dollar android plan, only to discover that MMS (picture messaging?) and the mobile internet aren't working.
So my questions are:
1) Is there a solution to this problem? (I've searched for and tried a few things alerady)
2) Is it possible to simply re-flash the phone even though I have activated service. (also, my usb port is broken so I'd have to do it through a micro sd adapter if possible)
3) any other solutions I don't know about?
I have no idea what rom (or whaterver it's called) I'm currently running, but I can do the ##3283# (DATA) thing, and the menu and all those settings will pop up, if that helps at all. If needed, I can provide all of my current ##DATA# settings.
So please let me know if you can help, and thanks in advance!
are you sure data is actually activated on your plan? I know it took me about 10 phone calls before a tech finally realized that the android data service was not active on my account.
Also, you say the phone was already flashed to cricket? Did the person you bought it from preprogram it for your account? The phone has to be programmed via QPST with your phone number in various places in order for data to work properly.
If you don't have a functioning usb port then it is going to be impossible to program the phone via QPST and get it working correctly.
In addition, without data MMS is not going to work. You need to get data working first.
First of all, thanks for the reply! And yeah, I just called and they said it's on the $55 plan.
Yes, it was already flashed when I bought it. We actually just added it to our current account and the cricket rep. changed it to a new number. And in the ##DATA# settings, I put in my own number. Also, I have no idea what QPST is, sorry, I'm new to this whole phone flashing.
Its not possible through the sd card? because the usb port broke off... How could I get data to work?
Many of you are aware of a thread in the Focus S section of this forum about someone with their Focus S getting VVM to work. However, it wasn't the most helpful thread to replicating it. I have since replicated this on a different device (the Focus Flash), so I wanted to post something here to let more people know.
Thanks to davezaff for the idea.
Here is how I did it on my Focus Flash. You will probably need a way to edit the APNs.
1. Update to 7740
2. Update to 8107
3. Insert sim card into an AT&T Android LTE phone (I used skyrocket)
4. Go to att.com and switch plan to Data Pro 4g LTE plan. I had to call to switch since it wasn't working on the website.
5. Setup VVM on Android LTE phone (don't know if this is necessary, but this is what I did....make sure friend knows the VM password so they can re-add it when they put their sim card back in.
6.Insert sim card back into Windows Phone
7. Call Voicemail
8. Wait for VVM to show up on phone (mine showed up after calling voicemail).
9. If sync error, edit the APN as follows
APN settings (delete the internet_line APN)
Create a new APN
APN Name: pta
Profile Category: internet (always on)
APN: pta
Auth type: None
Username:
Password:
Proxy address: proxy.mobile.att.net
Proxy domain:
Proxy port: 80
I now have working VVM on AT&T with my Samsung Focus Flash. My internet tethering still works (applied the Interop unlock + tethering hack from XDA). I have not tested MMS since I did this, but the MMS APN was untouched.
So they have tied vvm with their stupid data plans, how nice. So I can pay $20 for 300mb + vvm or I can pay $10 for unlimited data and traditional vm... ATT is so dumb.
Moved To WP7 General
This is not development, its more of a guide. Please post such threads in the WP7 General section
For the normal person, it is pay $30 for 3GB of data with traditional VM or pay $30 for 3GB with VVM. The only difference is one plan has the word LTE at the end.

Yes, and just download the English only language pack.
i already updated to 8107, but im asking if the vvm works for the titan, i also don't know anyone with an LTE android phone
Does this work if you don't setup VVM on the android device first? I was thinking of just calling AT&T and asking to be switched to the 4G plan.
Get it working without an LTE device
OK, I got this to work on my Lumia 800. Furthermore, I didn't have an LTE device.
What I did have however, is an AT&T store that caters extensively to my place of work (a software company). They are really nice, understand unusual requests, and try everything to help.
I did the following:
1. Upgrade the OS as per the original post.
2. Call the nice AT&T store that I mentioned above. Asked them to put me on an LTE plan. (I was already on an enterprise plan, so I was moved to the same enterprise plan but the LTE version. Cost of my plan remained unchanged).
I explained that I was doing some app development, and planned to be swapping phones from time to time, some of which are LTE phones. (I also have a microsim adapter, so moving between phones that take microsim and regular sim is not an issue for me).
They asked if I'd like VVM provisioning. I said yes.
They told me that they would change my listed phone to a blank IMEI (basically change the IMEI listed on my account to a blank IMEI that's associated with an LTE phone for provisioning purposes). I don't know if this is something all stores would be willing to do.
3. In the APN settings, I changed my APN to pta. I did NONE of the other settings mentioned (proxy, proxy port, and everything else are BLANK).
Now I have Visual Voicemail on my Lumia 800!
Hmm so why is vvm only available to LTE phones/network I want to get this.

I wonder if this blank IMEI is a special IMEI that at&t has to test LTE devices on accounts or something. I wonder if this IMEI would also work on other accounts as well. Hmmm.
I don't suppose that IMEI is something you could share possibly? I mean if its not a real phone, and can work on multiple accounts, it would be very nice to (selectively) share it so that some of us can get VVM.

I agree, since I just called asking for essentially this setup and they deniened any special IMEI.

So i also have an 800 and asked them to provision me for HSPA+ recently, so they switched my data plan to one that was supposed to be able to access it (i have no idea if it really can - that's a whole different can of worms). What did they switch your plan to? If you look online and hit "recent usage", you can see under "Additional Data Purchased Usage" your data lines with the plan code. My code is "HSSMTD4O" Just wanted to see if i could skip the "call att" step.
Thought I would share my experience also..
I was able to get VVM working on my Focus Flash. Luckily I have a friend that works at the ATT store. He just took a Samsung Note scanned the IMEI and added that as my phone. Then he enabled LTE and VVM. I rebooted phone and went in the the phone tile, and VVM prompted me for password. I put in password and all has been good.
The easiest way would probably be to borrow a friends VVM supported phone and put your sim in it, then have them add VVM to your account.
I did not have to add any APN's or make any changes to the phone.
Getting it working without a LTE device and without AT&T in your pocket
So, I decided to try and get VVM setup on my Focus S today, but I have no friends with AT&T and the local store was unwilling to help in the fashion outlined above.
So what to do? Well the main thing you need for this is the IMEI number from an Android LTE phone. So I asked a couple friends that don't live close by, and none of them had a LTE phone.
So I searched the internet for those "Get unlock Codes" websites, specifically for tutorials on LTE phones, and some of them show the IMEI number.
So I went into chat support and told them I needed a LTE plan with visual voicemail, and they asked for the IMEI number, I gave it to them, and then 2 minutes later VVM is now provisioned and working properly.
Yeah so I ended up adding the IMEI of a random Galaxy Note that I do not own. It was dead simple to do it online through tech support chat. After that, just called up voicemail, waiting a second or two, hung up, and then my phone prompted me for my voicemail password and automatically enabled visual voicemail. I realize that AT&T's system does not check for duplicate IMEIs across the network, so you can throw the same IMEI onto any number of phones and AT&T wouldn't know a thing (until they start looking of course).
I did have to change my APN to "pta" to get it to sync properly, but after that it was all smooth sailing.
Now I've got Visual Voicemail on my Titan and Lumia.
I am glad some of you were able to get it to work. The big issue I had before starting this thread was getting the APN settings. After getting VVM enabled, it couldnt connect until I messed with the APN. Glad I was able to help y'all!
Hey guys,
I was using my dinc2 in Europe all year and it was great. No troubles there.
I did some research since i've come back to US, and learned that people have been able to use tmobile with their phones. I've only read about some troubles with data plans ... but i'm not trying to use data at all.
I simply want to buy the 1000 prepaid minutes for 100$ from tmobile and pop it in. My plans is to use Wifi with google voice (groove IP) pretty much everywhere, and use the minutes from tmobile only when i'm on the move.
I tried getting a friends tmobile SIM to work just to make sure that there would be no problems, and i failed. It simply doesn't recognize the service.
My phone is S-OFF, hdboot .97, clockworkmodded, and runs Skyraider Zeus.
Is it a matter of running the correct ROM?

We have 2 DI2 and running both AT&T Prepaid and T-Mo Prepaid on it - no trouble with voice with Skyraider Zeus v1.3 or Nitsuj17's Stock Sense rom - APN settings for AT&T was auto-updated as I recall and being provisioned with a data bundle in the plan, it works. For T-Mobile, there are no default APN settings under GSM mode pre-loaded, but as you know, it's not required for voice & SMS to work on the DI2, you will get a "redirect" screen if you launch the browser to sign up for a data plan for it to work (and, that's indication of a working Sim card)
With the sim inserted & switched over to GSM, does it identify the "T-Mobile" network on the lockscreen or homes screen at all? after a reboot ? If you're running SR Zeus in Europe - then, there's no reason for it to not work here in the U.S.- recheck your settings for Mobile Network ...
Just got my new TMO M8 direct from HTC and I love it..... except for one problem which is not exclusive to this phone but I've searched everywhere and can't find a solution. Since this is not my every day phone I don't need a regular phone & texting plan. I only need a data plan... so I signed up for T Mobile's $10 data match plan which gives me 5GB/mo.... seemed like a great idea except apparently TMO doesn't allow smartphone devices to use this plan only tablets or hotspots. I've searched and searched and tried every combination of APN's but none of them work... when I'm changing the apn settings either data is totally disconnected or when it connects and I try a browser it prompts me to "Sign into Network" and sends me to the "upsell" site. Is there any way to spoof a tablet or hotspot? I know there are browser plugins that change the user agent but this seems to be happening on a system level. Is it possible to edit a system database entry, etc? Any help to point me in the right direction would be appreciated.

You're not going to be able to trick the carrier into thinking you're using another device. Continually attempting to do so also will get you flagged and you may come under scrutiny with the carrier so I'd suggest you pay for a rate plan like the rest of the android community, or utilize WiFi hotspots as much as possible.

Enable WiFi Tethering on the device you use as your primary phone and let your data only devices utilize it's unlimited data plan. That way, you don't have to pay for anything for your data only device.
