When HTC Evo 4G is in recovery and you press reboot it has a bunch of weird looking lines that are diffrent colors and this used to never happpen. I do not know how to fix this or if anyone has had this problem my phone seems to still run fine but i am curious of what it is if anyone knows how to fix this or knows what it is please help me i have attaced a picture of it please take a look
Clockwork recovery 2.6.0.1, recovery works just fine, flashing ANY files, (tried roms, kernels, application installs, theme changes etc...) no issues other than the actual display when it reboots...
How do i fix this it really bugs me
The new clockwork does that, not to worry.

I doubt it, it's just a glitch that only pops up when rebooting and doesn't affect anything.
Same thing happens in RA Recovery. IIRC it is the kernel they are using for recovery. I wouldn't sweat it.

Might be a corrupt splash screen. Unless you still get that white screen that says "HTC Evo 4G"
thanks everyone i feel much better now
Thanks for this thread I saw the same thing and freaked out cuz my phone randomly rebooted I guess its nothing serious
Sent from my 4.3 inches of AWESOME!
This has already been mentioned numerous times in the amon_ra recovery thread. As stated above, it's a byproduct of the new kernel used within the recovery software.
I think it's a result of certain video memory not being cleared prior to reboot, but that's just my suspicion. It does not affect the backup or restore and is just a visual side effect.

I switched from calks 1.4 to cm6 today after doing 3 complete wipes. The wallpaper was the same from rom to rom. I thought it was strange and wanted to see if anyone has seen this. Possibly some files hanging around taking up space?

Sometimes Clockwork Recovery doesn't fully wipe. I've never had an issue with it but lots of people have said it doesn't. You can flash AmonRA 1.8 recovery from Rom Manager at the bottom of the app. I use Amon and it's wonderful.
Sometimes I get the feeling that all the residue left behind on my SD card effects new Roms I flash. Like the system sees stuff from old Roms and "remembers" it. Maybe Android is smarter than your average OS?

Hello forum,
I recently switched from CM7 because I was having some issue with random resets and FCing with Maps that slow down and shut off my phone. I flashed to the New Fresh ROM to try it out. That worked fine, but I missed the pull down notification bar. I tried Salvage-Zen but got stuck in a boot-loop and then I tried Salvage. I got past the boot screen but when the Android pops up even though I click I can't go any further. Does anybody know of a possible solution?
Few suggestions: Are you wiping properly, do you have the latest recovery (amon ra or clockwork), are you flashing gapps, did you update to all the latest radios/wimax/prl?
Why don't you try to flash decks aosp rom!

do you do a clean wipe before flashing roms or are you just installing one on top of the other. I would suggest looking for Caulkins format all zip and run it prior to flashing a rom
Same problem on friends phone just use amon RA wipe everything twice and flash and be patient with the white evo 4 g screen it may take a while there.

I'm wiping completely using both Clockwork and Amon but its still a no go and I flash falls when using aosp. I'll try that Rom and report the results.

I've rooted an evo and changed the splash screen. I have the splash screen with the little android guy wearing a cape. It doesn't do it every day just once in a while. Evo rooted by unrevoked method using synergy rom. Has stuck on slash screen with other roms. Any idea on what the problem is. Thanks in advanced.

Stuck on the Splash Screen (normally white screen with Evo 4G) or the Boot Animation? Does the phone get stuck there when you power it on or it reboots on you and sticks there?
If it is rebooting on you and sticking on the boot animation you are stuck in a boot loop. That has happened to me with Synergy RLS1 (non god) and MikG when I was running a kernel (and CPU setting) that my phone did not like. Are you running a custom kernel? If so what settings?

It is stuck on the used to be white EVO screen. Gets stuck when powered up. Have done battery pull and even cleaned cache and delvik cache. After I clear those it will boot. No custom kernel. Synergy rom rls 1.

Bump. Just trying to get some advice as to why it is doing this.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
So it hangs on the splash screen after you attempt to power it on? I am assuming that it worked before (and you either turned it off or it rebooted on its own) to the get that state. Wiping the the caches clears the problem? I ran Synergy RLS1 for a while but I have never seen anything like that.

A few things I could think of...
Did you always have this problem with your phone?
Should try one of them superwipe scripts/zips (if you haven't already) and flash rom again. (for Recovery - Amon RA works better for Synergy i think, CWM for most AOSP ones)
Are you using aaps2sd or link2sd?
Have you tried a GB kernel like Freedom latest?

Kernel flashing is done the same way you did the ROM. Not sure if its an hboot thing for you...sounds like a one off case.
If it was me, I would've downgraded to eng hboot if possible...flash another splash and flash this one back. Might want to reflash the ROM again...just so we start fresh. Also try the format all script or a superwipe script in case your wiping is all jacked up.
The hboot and format all script is by the same dev, just search for it.
Could you post the link to the splash you are having issues with?

Well I won't have time to flash it, as I have to leave for class in 5 minutes, but re-download the file, make sure its the correct size. Place it on the root of your sd card name PC36IMG [the .zip file extension is hidden], boot into the bootloader, it'll scan, it'll say update found: splash, apply update, reboot, and the new splash screen should be working.
If not, pm me the link, and I'll try it when I get out of class [around 5:45 EST]

I have been trying to hook a buddy of mine up with a new rom for his Evo, basically make it exactly like mine with the newest Fresh Rom. I rooted his phone with Revolutionary and it all went just fine, the phone is now rooted with Superuser successfully installed. I put the Fresh zip on his SD card, wiped everything as you are supposed to, and then flashed the zip. It flashes fine and boots up, loads to the lockscreen and setup, but then reboots and does the whole process again, basically a bootloop. I have tried various roms and kernels, wiped over and over again, redownloaded the file, etc., but nothing seems to work. Am I missing something?! I never had this issue installing this rom on my phone. Any help would be appreciated!
try using a different recovery
Something other than RA? What do you suggest? CWM is crap isn't it?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Give newer versions on CWM its work just fine for me. I never had a problem.
Sloth
I am skeptical that a different recovery will fix the problem, but I will give it a try and report back. Is there anything else anyone can come up with?
I had a really weird issue where I couldn't flash any of the Gingerbread roms a while back, and had flashed goodness knows how many since I bought my evo on launch day and rooted it day one when it was available.
Trying different recovery versions might help, but if it doesn't, I'd suggest to unroot it and start all over. Find a post in the dev section on unrooting, go back to the stock sprint rom, and start over.
I did that, and was then able to flash all gingerbread roms and get them to not bootloop.
I'm not the only one that was having the problem, but NO devs could/would help figure it out. Not even flipz. Give it a shot.
Thanks for the info, I will try to Recovery thing first and then do a full wipe out and start over from a stock rom. The weird thing about it is that this is the first time this phone has been rooted and the first attempt at flashing roms.
Just curious, how many times does it reboot?? Over and over and over, or are you pulling the battery after the first or send time?
Over and over
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Try recovery and fast boot from there.
Sloth
I changed recoveries to clock work, and it did not make a difference. I continued to get the same boot loop as before with RA. I just wiped out the entire system, and went into the boot loader to unroot back to stock. I will report back my results once I am done

Changing up the recovery did nothing to fix my problem. I unrooted his phone, regained s-on, flashed a stock rom and am starting over. I will report back my results.
Well damnit anyway, starting all over from scratch did nothing as well. Still get the same damn bootloop. WTF!?!? Anyone else have any other ideas?
I've read every post and I can't think of anything that would help. You think it's a software issue, like inside the phone itself might be bad?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Is this something that could be discovered on a logcat? I have never done one or know how they work, but would anyone be willing to diagnose the problem if I am able to get a logcat?
Damn that sucks. What your status. Did you fix the bootloop?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App

What's interesting, is that this is the exact same boot loop problem I was having on my Evo when trying to flash any sense 3.0 rom.

Have you tried using / flashing any of the zips that are prepackaged " wipes " ?
Have you tried using TWRP recovery ?
I never had any problems while using RA but had numerous failed flashes with Clockwork.
TWRP has been stellar so far ... no failed flashes yet.
I've been running Strike Supersonic for a while now... I havent been happy with it since I can't use my power button to turn the screen back on during phone calls, and no FFC, or 4G. My phone is running 4.0.4 and honestly, I would rather be back on GB running Jellybread or CM7.
I've tried simply flashing the JB and CM7 roms and EVERYTHING goes into a FC loop of sorts, and obviously, that just wont do... Ive deleted Dalvik Cache, Cache, Wiped, and repeated, but nothing is fixing it, so there is obviously something that I am either missing or its just not possible...
Any help would be appreciated.
Also... where do you find the smelkus recovery? I found a like here, but it didnt work... Thanks
