Sorry for the newb question but, I'm trying to load a custom boot animation (Android Scribble from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=759691&highlight=boot+animation) and can't seem to get it to go. It's not a flashable package...just a bootanimation.zip file. Where do I need to put it? I've tried /system/media and /data/local using Root Explorer and it's not working. Running Myn's Warm 2.2 ROM.
Thanks!

Hmmm...that didn't seem to work. I don't have a /system/etc/customize directory. I have a /system/etc and a /system/customize. Tried putting it /system/customize and didn't work.
/system/customize/resource
I'm running Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo (thanks incubus26jc and myn, great work!). You'll have to rename the original bootanimation.zip to something like bootanimation.bak.
I also thought it had to be named VZW_bootanimation.zip, but maybe that isn't necessarily the case.

Should be able to just push a bootanimation.zip to /system/media (or /data/local). Not sure how the Eris works, but I would also remove /system/media/bootscreen (if it exists)
Code:
rm -r /system/media/bootscreen/*
Looks like there isn't any difference from how the eris and the g1 manage the boots I can just take the g1 boots and stick them to the system/media folder and they work!!! so thanks!

Well, how 2.1 handles boots.
I don't normally start a thread unless its something I released but... this needs to be known!
Add any custom boot animation (there are two available: cyanogen and G2 edited stock animation) to system/media. Back up the current one first. Just use adb, terminal emu, or any root file explorer. Enjoy insta-boot, lol!

i just got the boot animation up and running (stock g2 animated). i put it in data/local though...as instructed. what is the difference by putting it in these seperate locations and do i need to have it in both or just system/media? i am confused.

I already have the cy animation running. When I go to the system/media folder I already have the bootanimation file in there. Am I supposed to copy the same file again? Plz explain

He's talking about the other folder he put the animation in. I also put the cyanogen animation into data/local and it worked fine. But when I go to system/media there's also already a copy of the cyanogen boot. What to do?

Either location works but I haven't tested data /local position. Delete the one from there and make sure the edited cyan or edited G2 stock is in system/media. Having them in two places is just redundant...

we were all instructed to put it there from the other thread containing the boot image.
having the image in 2 placed is redundant. having an OS read boot images from 2 possible locations is also redundant.
copying the boot image to data/local will also put it in system/media. which is weird.
deleting the boot image from data/local will cause it to not display image on boot. even though its still in system/media

i'm having trouble deleting the stock boot from system/media. root explorer keeps telling me its read only and the remount r/w isnt workin.
i would say data/local isnt viable as a speedy boot option cuz i didnt notice a difference in boot times.

Yeah, you could just flash baconbits if your feeling lazy, lol! It'll add the proper stuff for su,busybox,OC kernel, and put ro secure at 0 for ya.
If you want a good themable stock rom, try fast this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=836042 make sure you flash the deodexed one and then flash baconbits or that new fast OCed kernel...
The current zip is in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=708173 under "DanceDroid"

I do it this way everytime. Way faster than flashing, or pushing via adb.
OK Glad I found this thread.. I too want the dancing droid and cant not get it to work.. I am using sense ROM and I have tried the moving it to the sytem/media.. doesnt work.. I have tried pushing it via "pushboot" still doesnt work.. I get a black screen..
So when you say flash it via recovery.. Just a manual flash..
1)boot into recovery
2)flash system via zip
3) choose bootanimation
4) reboot
Is that all??
I also created sound for this as well. the sound works great on other animations but nothing shows up.. Is there anything in the file I need to change.. There is also a "DS STORE" file which i havent seen in other animations..
What is that file for?
Can someone post a screenshot of this flash working???
Im not sure what else to try.. been working on this for hours.. still nothing
OK just tried to flah in recovery and message received was "Cant find update script" so this could be why its not working... What script is needed?? Is it the notepad of code that goes into each zip bootanimation? that is not in the zip btw when downloaded from the thread that has this download... so if its working on other Evos how did you do it.. and what script is present??
does anyone still have the dancing droid for evo 4g. i would like to use it as my boot animation but the link in this thread is broken and i cant find one that will work anywhere

Here you go. This is for AOSP or Sense.
It's the Ice Cream Sandwich Nyandroid flying leaving a trail of rainbows!
This is the first boot animation I have ever made and I apologize if it's crappy or choppy. I will try to to make it smoother over time and I will include other versions as well.
How do you install this?
Root Explorer method:
1. Download bootanimation.
2. Place the bootanimation.zip on root of your SD card.
3. Make a copy of the bootanimation and name it sanim.zip and move that to your SD card as well.
4. Open root explorer.
5. Navigate to system/media
6. Select Mount R/W (top right in Root Explorer, on by defauly in ROM Toolbox) then either delete, or move existing bootanimation.zip and sanim.zip
7. Navigate back to sdcard, then copy or move bootanimation.zip to system/media and then repeat with sanim.zip
Thanks to Just_s for the instructions on installing a bootanimation!
Please tell me what you think and feel free to leave suggestions.

Here is a zip version that can be flashed in CWM with the Nyan sound as well. I used the animation from this thread and found the sound and then put them into a zip from jerdog's boot animation. Seems to work for me so here it is if anyone else wants it.

Depends on your phone and rom. on my SII Epic Touch with calkulins rom I just needed to DELETE the PowerOn.wav file from system/etc and then paste MY PowerOn.wav file into system/etc
no more than 10 seconds anything past 10 seconds does not play. (boot time once sounds stars is 11.7 sec)
I need help! Can someone of you who have Costum ROM, send me a "wifi" folder from the software that he has?
I'm not sure what you mean by "WiFi Folder". But you can try re-flashing your radio. You will need Clockworkmod Recovery 2 to flash it.
Here's mine in CM7 (if you need one for a Sense based ROM, I can't really help you there)
I found it in /system/etc
Ohh, thats what he meant lol. For some reason my wpa_supplicant.conf is found in a different folder :O
