How do I get a silent mode instead of just a vibrate or loud?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Hold the volume key down till it says silent, or hold the power key, and on the pop up menu, select silent mode.

Vol key only goes to vibrate and silent mode turns it to vibrate too

In the sound settings you have to tell it to vibrate "Only when not in silent mode". That should fix ya right up
I feel stupid for not having checked that first, ok not that big if a newb. Im an idiot

If I do that how do I go into vibrate only mode?

Try using a widget like Silent Toggle Widget or Widgetsoid to control Sound/Vibrate Only/Silent.

Even after I did that I still wuldnt go into silent, vibrate, loud, just from silent to loud, but the widget is working fine

2.1 Eclair had both Silent & Vibrate available from the volume buttons, while 2.2 has removed the silent option. As noted above there are widgets to workaround this but it was a "feature" google changed in froyo from my understanding.
I figued it must have been something of the sort
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
yes, this is very annoying but I am going to try out that widget, thanks Isira
guys, if you're running Froyo, you do NOT need to use a widget
go to Settings > Sound > Vibrate > and select "Only when not in silent mode"
*if you select "Never", your Epic won't vibrate... AT ALL*
that will allow you to have a completely silent ringer with NO vibration

Little late on that bud, check my post (#4). Your enthusiasm is refreshing.
This is super, super annoying. I want my Silent -> Vibrate Only -> Ring settings back using the volume keys, without having to resort to a widget. To rub it in my face, there's a "Silent Mode" from the notification slide down, but it only duplicates the functionality of sliding the volume the way down. How useful.
I used Silent Mode for when I was in class or a meeting and didn't even want it to vibrate. Vibrate for when I was somewhere noisy.
I thought it was annoying enough to have to check and uncheck "vibrate" for texts, cause they would vibrate even when then ringer was on.
I also wish silent mode would kill media. I've had a webpage start going off when I was browsing in class. Very embarrassing. :\
Is there an app or widget that hooks into the volume keys?

Me too. There are times I want it to vibrate (in a bar where I wouldn't hear the phone ring, in a theater when I'm on call, etc.), and there are times when I really want SILENT (my better half is a light sleeper, and just the vibration upon a text is enough to wake him).

Flash the mod in the dev section to restore that function. Works great on my mostly stock epic rooted with clockwork.

These will work fine on (mostly) stock ROMs, but may cause issues with custom ROMs which have their own framework modifications.
Not sure which of the custom ROMs currently include the patch, but feel free to request your favorite ROM to include it.
using winmerge was the easiest way i found to add it to a custom rom, without fear of messing anything up..

Hi Guys, I am trying to remove the notification for battery full. I charge overnight and when the battery is full it vibrates like an id.ot, waking me up most of the times!
There was a thread but now it`s obsolete... Come on, can it be that there`s no easy fix for this? I even googled, but pointlessly!
Thanks
It's not ideal but I just set the notifications ringtone to silent in the main settings menu and then set proper notifications separately in messaging, gmail, etc.

I would like to know too... That wake me every time. I dont want to put on silent since I want SMS and cakk to wake me.
Thanks all but I wish there was a better solution. Can it be that there`s no hidden flag in the system configuration?
My current solution is to put the phone on a soft thing so it doesn`t wake me up...
Settings > Sounds > Notification sound
Set it to Nothing
Freely translated from Dutch
Oh, and I can set SMS Notification to something else than "Default" (since Default is now "Silence")... pretty nice!
Thanks for the idea HaTeNL!

If you don't want it to vibrate in silent mode then just change your vibration settings to not vibrate in silent mode......

Any luck with solving this?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Solved:
One just need to additionally deactivate the vibration, either from the settings menu, set it to never vibrate or only when not in silent mode, or with an extra widget like one of the many available in the market.
Enjoy!
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
i downloaded the app timeriffic from the market and that made two profiles.
one, from 22.00 to 06.00 with no vibration and message sound disabled and the other one from 06.00 to 22.00 with vibration and message sound enabled.
works fine.
That's fine when the phone is on but when's off it stills vibrates.
I scheduled the phone to shutdown every night at 23.00h. Sometimes, I charge at home during the night. Even if the phone is downstairs, I can still hear the notification vibration repeating itself over and over again.
The solution is to put the phone on a non-vibrating surface (usually the same USB cable used for charging the phone)
I used "droidessentials" .. uncheck the "Alert When battery full".
The Apps state it won't work with Samsung devices.
Tonight I will try..

It has to work! The first option in the notification sound thing is "Silent" (translated).
Put it off Silent Mode and then change the notification sound. Must work.
Hey guys, wasn't here on these forums a thread of someone that did an app or mod just to remove the battery full sound??
I have read that once there was it!!!
I want my phone to vibrate for notifications & messages when in Vibrate Mode, but not when in Silent Mode. I had this on my prior phone (MyTouch 3G) but it doesn't seem to be available on the SGS2.
The phone options don't even list a Vibrate Mode and just lump it in as Silent Mode. So I either have to let it vibrate when in Silent Mode (which would wake me up at night) or else not have it vibrate when in Vibrate Mode (so I won't know about messages when it's in my pocket).
Anyone know if this can be fixed with the stock options, and if not is there an app or ROM/Kernel that takes care of it?
Thanks.

There's this awesome app called audio manager. Works really well and let's you make different profiles, kind of like the blackberries have. It has options for vibration also.

I know, that's the problem. Vibrate is considered "silent mode," so there's no distinguishing between the two. If you choose "only when not in silent mode," then notifications/messages don't vibrate in vibrate mode.

Hey folks Ive tried everything with this phone but just can't get it to vibrate and I really can't recall it ever vibrating. I've seen in other forums that others are having the same problems but there didn't seem to be a solid fix. The phone will not vibrate during calls or notifications of any kind when I have it set to always vibrate or vibrate during silence mode. I've gone to all of my messaging applications as well to select the vibrate function and it still doesn't work. Need help if possible.
Thanks,
go to sound settings and check vibration intensity...might be off??

Doesn't work, I have the intesity all the way actually. Also when I move the sensitivity levels the phone doesn't give any feedback. I think the vibrate engine may be blown.

Does anyone know how to get silent mode activated? There is the choice of do not disturb. But if you put it on priority it vibrates and if it's on the alarm doesn't go off and if it's off, you can only have either sound or vibrate.
It seems it's missing the silent option.

It says here that do not disturb "allows some resources to interrupt it when in Priority. Alarms always have priority".

Yes, but with vibrate. I want no vibrate
Looks like LG removed Silent mode in their rom and replaced it with Do Not Disturb. Pure Android 5.0 builds on devices such as the Nexus range still have a silent mode, so this was definitely a LG thing .

Thats just stupid...
I developed an app: Call Filter Alarm. Its sleep mode can silence all notifications (also whatsapp and viber), even on Lollipop.
Hope it helps

I made a small workaround that is very handy!
I used Nova Activities widget to create a shortcut to the Sounds and Notificaitions --> Interruptions activity.
Whenever I want to sleep, I simply tap the widget on my homescreen, turn off Calls as priority notifications and go to sleep with peace of mind.
As soon as I wake up, I simply enable Calls as priority interruptions again by using the Nova widget
I know this is a workaround but this is the best way I found so far to solve this irritating problem on Android Lollipop.
I would also love to hear about any workarounds that anyone else on XDA has hacked together! Probably whip out a dialog UI using Tasker?
Hit thanks if my post helped you :good:
Very frustrated by the "Do not disturb" sound setting. Messed up my first alarm after update to Lollipop. Now I have to press the volume button, then from there "Priority only" in order to have the alarm sound working. Otherwise, if I press "Silent mode" icon from the notification tray it goes into "Do not disturb" so no alarm. And there is no shortcut in the notification tray for "Priority only". Really stupid...

Yip, my thoughts exactly.
It's crazy.
I also go thru the volume solution you mention.
So yeah, this is ridiculous. I loved my G2, and everyone said the OS was overworked. Now its more basic looking to the android eye, and i hate it. Im missing so many small features. Silent with no vibration and ALARM for one thing!
Ok so, under the original lollipop silence settings, when you pressed a volume key it brought up the volume bar, with the options underneath to choose "None, Priority, All" for sounds. So I could just tap the volume key, tap priority, and go to sleep knowing there would be no sounds apart from my alarm. I could also do this at work, because it was quick and silent. It also had the advantage that when I changed it back to "All", my volume would revert back to my old setting. All easy and good.
Now though... theres two choices.
1. Tap the volume all the way down, to vibrate. The phone vibrates loudly (even if I have all vibrations turned off). Then I press it again to go to silent. Then I have to do the same in reverse (including another vibration) to get it back up to my old volume. Dumb.
2. I found out you can tap the bell icon in the volume bar to cycle between states. This at least keeps the volume on my normal setting. But it still vibrates when i cycle through it.
SO... Is there no way to go from normal to silent without the damn thing vibrating loudly? I never use vibrate, so I'd want to just deactivate this option entirely. I used to be able to do this.
I have tried play store apps which say they do this... but when I set them to the "silent" option (not their vibrate option) and ring my phone, it vibrates! Even though I have phone call vibrate set to off.
This is such a stupid change. I know people disliked the priority options (I thought they were an improvement myself), but this new system just seems so much worse than anything I've used in the last 5 years of android ownership.

If you have an unlocked bootloader you can flash a costom kernel and turn the entire vibration off.
