Anyone know of any existing or under development ways to access Samba shares? Or more specifically, to play video off of them?
Thanks,
B.

I wonder if its possible to stream from veetle.com to the blackstone?
And if so what software to i need for that?
Anybody knows?
Never used it myself so not sure of the features you'll be trying to use but this thread may be of some use to you:

...or it might not!
Either way I would recommend that you at least have Coreplayer installed as it handles loads of different stream types very well.
Veetle has it's own download for the stream on PC, I've used it for about 6 months. It's great but no clue how to make it work for Windows Mobile, that would be unreal if someone figured it out.
Hey guys,
I feel like there is an answer to this question, but, I promise I did search (followed the cardinal rule for forum posting)! Is it possible to hack/mod the amazon fire tv to stream content from your desktop to your TV over the network? This is the only feature I feel is missing and would be awesome if this little beat could do so.
Thanks for any help guys.

I'm not sure but there probably is a casting apk that will work somewhere. Check AllShare, AllCast, etc. for a casting app/receiver that includes desktop capability. You will have to install it with ADB on the Fire TV.
Why would you want to do this? IMO, there are plenty of easier ways to do this. for personal videos, upload to youtube, just set your channel as private. For website based streaming, you could load Firefox browser apk. For movies and TV shows, use xbmc.
Maybe with a little more info on what you want to stream, will help find an answer.

Use plex man.
Go to plex.tv on your PC. Download the plex media server for your PC. On your firetv, download the plex apk. It can also be sideloaded if you already purchased it somewhere else. That's all you need.
I use plex to stream pictures and home videos without a problem.

Worked perfectly! Thanks man! I do have one more question for you though as you seem pretty active on these forums. What would be the point to mod your fire TV? As in what do people gain from doing so, free games?
..

You can already sideload any apk without the need to root the device. Although, this isn't the site to talk about that. Root also isn't available as of yet for this device.
I'm looking forward to root for a few reasons.
- Ability to use apps that require root. Ex. an app that can power off your device, so it's not always in standby.
- Ability to change the launcher without the need for Llama.
- Ability to install apps that are currently confirmed as not incompatible.
- Overclock it, to make it run faster.
- Remove Preinstalled Crapware, that can't be uninstalled otherwise.

Plex is far from unknown, and makes playing videos, movies, music, and photos from your PC stupid easy. That's why.
Does anyone know if it's possible to load the web version of Hulu on the Amazon Fire TV? I tried sideloading the Hulu app from the GP store, but it's the "Plus" version that requires a subscription. Other than that I was looking into the Kodi repos, but couldn't find a working script.
Any help is appreciated...
You can do it via PlayOn.

thanks, but not the answer I was looking for.
There isnt an app for the free version so you have only a couple of options. Sideloading Chrome might work or Playon.
Maybe there is some kind of plugin for Kodi but if its like Netflix, you have to be under Windows to get it to work.
There are a lot of browsers that can view the actual desktop hulu page, but none of them will let you watch video anymore, cause they use outdated flash support. Flashvideobrowser, Virtual PC Browser and photon browser will go to the PC verrsion of the page, but will not play anything, for the reason listed above, their flash plugin is outdated. Puffin will also go to the PC version of hulu, but will not play anything, cause the browser uses vpn and hulu has a policy to block private browsing, cause they do not want anyone outside the USA to use their site. I am guessing it will be hard to do on android unless you develop a browser with updated flash support and the ability to fool hulu into thinking you are on a PC.
Maybe there is an older version of the non-plussed Hulu.apk floating around that might work? Anyone know a site where such a file might be found?

There really isn't such a thing that I remember. Hulu Plus was always required for watching via mobile app. The only way you can watch for free is by using the website directly via a web browser...
Hey guys. On my Plex for mobile and my PC can create and view playlists. On the fire tv version, I don't see any playlists. Anyway to get them? Also I am not able to play videos. I keep getting "can't play videos". They work on my PC and mobile but not fire tv. Any advice?

did you open all the necessary ports on your server? I don't know which ones offhand, but it should be in the installation guide

Yes. When I run it I have to use kodi to open it. I have no idea why I get no playlists.
Anyone know whats a good external player I can use?

I dont think playlists are supported yet. I think only the roku and generic android app supports lists. An on the generic android app , you have to use mobile view as opposed to tv view. I am not sure why it is taking so long to get list support across the board.
Been trying to get this working for a while now. My goal is to have an SMB share on my Nexus 5x that I can access from ie my PS2/PS3. I have some movies on my n5x I want to stream.
I've tried sambadroid, Samba server, Samba filesharing, andsmb and many other apps.
Is there a way to achieve this?
Why don't you use DLNA instead?
