I sympathise with your situation, but you have posted in the wrong thread, This should be Q&A or general.

is it really that hard ?

WOOOOOOOOW a desire rom for an evo
What country has a keyboard with the letters 'n' and 'd' next to each other?
"Leard" and "androin"?
Download a rom from this forum and install that (try Fresh). You got a rom for the wrong phone.
Questions go in what section? Development? NO.

wrong forums....q/a is a couple above this thread
Good thing the file you flashed didn't have a radio or you'd likely be the proud owner of a shiny brick. Go here and flash one of these: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=712695
I'm guessing you're stuck at the boot screen because your boot.img is for the Desire and not the Evo.
thanks guys sorry my first post .

There's nothing to be sorry about. Simply put, you would have gotten the same help had you posted in Q&A.

Please Please someone help me! First off, i apologize if this is in the wrong forum but i figured it would be the best place to get help. I just got an EVO a couple of weeks ago (came from an iPhone 4). I understand that root is almost like jailbreaking. I'm trying to update my phone with a new rom but evidently it can't be done without being rooted. I've searched and searched to be able to find a way to root the new sprint update 3.70.651.1 but i just cant find it! can some one PLEASE HELP! I've tried unrevoked 3 but to no luck...

The best place to get help is in the correct forum. There are lots of grumpy people here who would take the time to bust on you for posting in the wrong section, tell you to use the search button or post a link to lmgtfy.com.
Fortunately I'm still noob enough not to do that. Take a look at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=838448 and see if that helps you.
This one is also a good one to try:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=829045
You gots to know what you are doing. Read thoroughly!
i would for sure use the one suggested by atapia984. it is a little harder, but it is a lot less risky in the long run. also, rooting is not too much like jailbreaking, mostly because you can do everything you can with a jailbroken iphone on an evo without any hacking at all. rooting lets you actually replace the phone's system (and other partitions) with custom roms made by the talented devs here at the xda. you also have total control over hardware of the phone. if you are really stuck on the root tutorial, i might be able to help you out, or even give you a walkthrough if you are too afraid of nuking your precious evo.
Hi i want someone that can actually guide me step by step on the rooting for my htc evo. I was doing the process fine but i get stuck in the usb part in the recovery section.. PLease help
U need to read up n figure it out. If u can't do it then you should not be rooting your device. You def have not read enough cuz u would know that ?'s don't belong in general...

you have been told "what to do" show some pride, suck it up and read.
it is super simple.
if you do not understand then stop or you will be worse off.
just read you will be surprised how easy it is
I love it when someone is handed detailed instructions then asks for instructions again.

first of all i'm not a dude, second i did the guide of the rooting, i managed to do everything but there's a stage where the option doesn't appear in the recovery section. All i ask is for help. If you don't intend to help then don't bother replying.
Plug phone into USB, turn on debugging mode, run revolutionary, enjoy root.
Honestly, it's that simple. The people on here that are telling you that you "shouldn't bother rooting" if you have to ask this question are not saying that to be rude at all. It's a simple fact that rooting gives you privileges to sensitive system files that, if you dont know what you are doing and can't follow simple step by step instructions, can cause you to do extreme damage to your phone such as bricking. Again, it's a very simple process that you will be repeating very often while flashing various ROMs, kernels, and radios. If you aren't comfortable enough following the millions of step by step guides here on the forums then, for your phone's safety, you shouldn't be rooting. Keep reading the guides, scour the forum for the billion of other posts like yours, and then root AFTER you understand the ENTIRE process start to finish. I know you're eager to root your phone but such sensitive things should not be done without full understanding.
Again, nobody is trying to be rude to you at all. It's just that those of us more experienced in the subject know what can happen when inexperienced people try to blindly root, and subsequently flash, a bunch of stuff on their phone. Please try to take a step back and understand this.
Did you download the fastboot drivers and make sure HTC sync is not installed on your computer?
I've been reading though the resource bible and I am simply confused to the proper procedure to root and s-off for my phone configuration. I simply want to put a cyanogen mod onto the phone; then start playing with other rom's. Can someone please point me to the right procedures to assure I don't brick the phone?

wrong forum....and you do need to downgrade like siloner said.
also, please read the noob guides in the General section, they're there to help you.
I apologize for posting in the wrong forum; can the mod move this to the right place please- Sorry
I have read several of the guides and I do know I need to downgrade the phone. the ADB is giving me errors during the process. It's been several months since I tried so I can't recall the exact message. I was hoping someone else rooted starting at the same point I did and can walk me through the right steps. There are too many possible scenarios. Before anyone else says it; yes I DID READ the guides. I spent over 6 hours doing the research into it and ran into problems and simply gave up b/c is was such a convoluted process. I was hoping better guides came out- I have not found it yet; If you point me in the right direction I am willing to help myself out.

I used this guide from start to finish and was 100% successful. I came from a Gingerbread stock rom to rooted and S-off with this guide. Follow it and you will be happy!

This should really go over in the S3 forums, correct location and the people over there are more likely to be able to help you. I reported the topic to a moderator and hopefully they'll get you taken care of.
what rom did you flash, because if you flashed a rom for another phone, your fear is confirmed. i have done the same thing with my last phone.
i have heard of some phones using odin, and other tricks on youtube, but usually after wiping a phone ,like you did, there is little you can do to fix it.
