[Q] nand backup and battery stats - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does a nand restore keep the current battery stats or overwrite them? I am asking because my battery was at 88% and I had to do a nand restore from last night. The restore completed and my phone booted fine. But when it finished booting it said my battery was at 98%. I am wanting to know if we need to clear the battery stats before doing a restore?

well lithium ion batteries have no memory so i dont see the difference, i guess if youd like

[Q] installing new battery... wipe needed?

Should I wipe battery stats, before or after I install my new battery?
I got the 2150mah battery and want to make sure I make the most of it from the start.
Charge it to 100% then wipe the stats. This way you get full statistics while draining.

[Q] Wipe Battery Stats

Hey,
I have problem. I wiped the battery stats in Recovery mode like this one thread said to do, if experiencing battery problems. And since then, when I reboot my phone, it won't boot...only that white HTC screen displays. Nothing else happens. I always need to reflash my rom for my phone to boot into android. Any ideas???

Simply wiping Battery stats shouldn't do that. My concern is the fact that you say you have to always reflash your rom, are you saying that even now if you reboot it will not boot up your ROM? if so I would recomend doing a wipe of /cache and /dalvick-cache and seeing if that helps if not do a full wipe /system /data /cache and /dalvik-cache and reflash your rom but be warned doing that will lose all your data
This might sound obvious, but I am curious how wiping battery stats actually help recalibrating the battery? I do it once and the battery percentage drops to 0% immediate on boot, while there are still plenty of juice left.
What the correct way to properly recalibrate the battery?
Download current widget, charge your phone till current widget shows 0mA, then wipe battery stats.
What changes when you wipe your battery ststs? I've came across a thread for HD2, which said that wiping battery stats in recovery is equivalent to deleting /data/system/batterystats.bin (or something like that) and rebooting. Obviously being WM device the HD2 lacks a recovery. The thread also said that this should increase the maximum voltage the battery reaches while charging (to ~4220mV). With my DHD I reach 4199mV with or without wiping the stats. Also that thread suggested that the minimum voltage (equivalent to 0% battery) depends on the kernel used and could be as low as ~3200mV but all the ROMs and kernels I used can't reach those low voltages (usualy around 3500mV). Can anyone please share his experience with the battery voltages because I think this is the most objective way to measure the effect of wiping the battery statistics.
I wiped my batterystats with CWM in recovery mode and had no problems
battery stats
Hi,
Try to download from market "Battery Calibration".
Install it and plug in your phone to charge it.
Wait untill battery is 100% charged.
Press calibrate battery on the screen.
A popup will show you the result and the App. automatically deletes the file "batterystat.bin".
Than plug off your phone.
Now you are joining a new battery life, more stable and performance than before.
If you also want to have your battery always under control, download currentwidgets and place it on home screen. It will show you how many ampere your battery is consuming.
I hope this post is usefully for you.
Bye

[Q] Q: Replacement Evo

I just got a replacement evo. As soon as i got home I rooted it. I just did a restore of the rom I backed up before I took the phone in, my question is since I got a brand new battery should I do a battery wipe? Because if I restore my rom and everything else wont the battery stats be for the old battery? They said my battery was bad so it had me thinking after the restore...any inputs?
The obvious answer is don't restore anything. Get fully charged, flash the ROM and start from scratch, using TB or MY Backup Pro to restore your user apps/data

Umm, you should NEVER restore backups from phone to phone. You probably fried your wimax keys, meaning you will never get 4g on this new phone.
As for the battery stats question, every time you flash a new rom, whether it be a new rom or a rom backup, you should always wipe battery stats.
yea so I've been reading that I f'd up. but luckily for me we don't have 4g in my area. Thank you though for the responses.

back up battery stats

Is it possible to backup and restore your battery stats? I saw it was a feature on the galaxy s2's hyperdroid rom. It would make things a little easier (yeah i know its not that hard to just charge to 100% and let it drain) but it normally takes a day for that to happen and I can leave in the morning with 20% charge to get me through the day.
havent seen anything on backing this up yet but i much rather prefer to do a calibration after every rom or kernal flash as opposed to having a backup of the stats

I agree with Paul it's best to wipe the battery stats everytime you install a new Rom however if you did want to back them up then use something like Root Explorer and browse to /data/system and make a copy of batterystats.bin

[Q] flashing rom's and battery stats wipe

Hi guys,
Di you think I need to recalibrate my battery each times I reflash a rom?
- in the case I do wipe data / factory reset (fresh install)
- in the case I do only dalvik and cache wipe (like rom update)
yes u will need to calibrate ur battery everytime u flash a ROM..
change it till 100%..keep it on charge for another 1 hr..then calibrate it using the app..then you are done..
that is a shame! It take me 10 minutes to update Arconium ICS 2.2 to 2.3 on my Arc S and then it take 1 day to calibrate my battery!
Maybye I should ask the dev if there is a way to backup battery stats between rom update
Short answer is no.
the battery stats is deleted with the rom flash. the battery call is a hardware/kernel harcoded thing... sorta...
you do not need to delete the batterystats file android sorts all of that out on it's own.
i would look up the references from Diane Hackthorn (google engineer) but i am too tired
best way to sort out you battery is to use your phone. charge it when you want to.
lithium batteries prefer to stay charged than to be discharged fully.
*EDIT* also the batterystats file has nothing to do with battery life! all it does is tell you what has been using the battery for the battery screen in settings. ( android deletes it when you have a full battery neway)
Pvy.
whenever i install a rom and while discharging the battery suddenly slides 10-15%(not everytime)..but after calibrating this problem is solved..so i always calibrate after installing a rom..well i m not losing anything
