[Q] Unrevoked3 help - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I tried searching for this but to no avail.. if some one here has better searchfu than me just point me in the right direction but here is my problem.
Im using a 2.2 android HTC desire from O2 I was following the instructions http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788044 here to Root it. I installed the Hboot drivers fine and got Unrevoked working as far as i can tell.
I launch it and it goes through the entire process of restarting my phone into Hboot and then restarting again and stabilising then It starts to root.. says sucess then quickly changes to say "Internal Error: failed to unlock NAND flash?"
It then stops there restarts the phone and has had no effect at all..
Any help will be wonderful
Pete

I think you would have much better luck posting this in the HTC Desire forums, seeing as that is the device you have.
EDIT: i know that they are basically the same phone, but it may be something specific to the Desire.

Cant root 2.1 with .80 using unrevoked - pls help

Hi all,
I have managed to downgrade from android 2.2 to 2.1update1, and bootloader .92 down to .80.
However I still am not able to root this phone, I have tried many different methods and am now at a loss as i don't know what i am doing wrong...?!
When running unrevoked 3.14 the process seems to go thru ok until the message appears waiting for phone to reboot, then i get the error attached...
"communications with phone unexpectedly interrupted. try again"
Drivers are installed as pictured in the attached as well.

The simplest way: get a RUU, reflash, get unrevoked 3.21, root again. Works got most cases.

[Q] HELP! Root desire hboot 0.93 without flashing a new rom/possible?

Hello there xda-devs!!
I own an htc desire A8181 (amoled i think) and i fell into the temptation to root it. The problem is that i updated OTA into 2.2 froyo and my hboot now is 0.93.00001 on which the unrevoked method wont work (at leat for me it did not, as it showed : "validation error: backup cid is missing" ). I have installed the modified drivers and my desire is unbranded. I was hoping to find a method to root without losing any data or settings and since everyone showed as an alternative hboot downgrade and custom rom, so i thought " what if i downgraded hboot but i did not flash a new rom ", but the question is "is it possible?"
As you may have figured out, i dont know much about rooting/flashing etc, although i have some experience from flashing kaiser and some others, but i am willing to learn. If anyone could give me a hint/link/suggestion or solution to my problem it would be gratefully appreciated
PS thank you in advance and sorry for my english

AFAIK, the latest unrevoked works fine with the 0.93.00001 - quite sure I read this in one of the threads.

Thanks for the quick response! Actually these posts were the first that i read when i first thought of rooting and i believe that i have correctly followed the steps of the how to for the unrevoked (version 3.22 straight from the unrevoked site) and i tried twice on different computers(both running win xp home x86). As for the alternatives on benko's tut, none of them supports OTA 2.2 froyo...
After thought and some reading, I decided that I will downgrade to 2.1, root using unrevoked and then flash to prerooted froyo. Actually, since the point is not to lose settings or data, does anyone know a safe way to back up everything and restore them to the new rom?
I have the same model as you mate and the latest unrevoked worked for me, I downloaded the one straight from their website.

Had you also updated OTA with froyo? If yes then why doesn't it work for me? I am sure that the phone is unbranded. Maybe it's something else and not hboot? My current specs are:
*Hboot:: 0.93.001
*Radio: 5.11.05.27
*Rom: 9.29.405.2 (got the update a week ago)
The only thing that I did not follow in the unrevoked guide, was that I didn't select hboot while loading the drivers, because I could not, no matter how many times I pressed the volume down button.I just waited for it to change to usb plug. Could that be the problem?

Something else I noticed the first time I tried with unrevoked, was that in the revoked window it showed "triumph" for a moment and then it rebooted for the last time and then it showed "validation error..". Strange is that it never showed it again not even on the 2nd or 3rd try...What could that mean?

Thanks for the tip, but this is about BRAVO PVT4 SHIP S-ON while my desire is PVT1 SHIP S-OFF and it says that these are able to root but not flash a Rom, while I can't even root.. and the errors do not match..
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
If you're S-OFF now then you don't need to root - if anything you might be already!
As you hadn't said anything about the rest of the HBOOT I thought I'd mention it but I'm on 0.93 and can root with no issues
And what does it mean? I am already root and I don't know it? And why does then the unrevoked method not work and where is the superuser app?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
If the Superuser app isn't there then you're not rooted, so that clears that up...
Go read the S-OFF thread in Development and post a query on there. It sounds like you may have a facotry unlocked bootloader which is extremely rare but best go and confirm it in the forum
Ok. I'm going now. Thank you Eddy and the others for your great help
*forgot to mention: the s off I wrote was after the failed tries with unrevoked(before I hadn't noticed if it was on or off) also the phone was destined to be a demo in a store*

try installing the HTC sync drivers and then remove HTC sync and try again.
If possible switch to Ubuntu and root, its much better.
I have already installed the HTC sync drivers and removed the HTC sync, but I will try reinstalling..You think that through Linux it might succeed?

[edit]: tried again in windows removing reinstalling etc. and in slax live cd. Still no luck as the "validation error: backup cid is mising" wont stop appearing
[Second edit] I'm root now. Followed turkeys' tut
Hi I recently tried using unrevoked 3.22 and it really didnt seem to work as I got a "validation error: backup cid is mising". However after a reboot I found myself in clockworkmod recovery, so that part seemed to work. However straight afterwards I tried to start the phone, I discovered had no access to SD card and any attempt to access phone via USB also gone, it seems Bluetooth is also gone. However I got the SD card back again using FASTBOOT, has anyone got any ideas how I could possibly get USB back?
Hello cletus. I may not know the solution to your problem, but usually posting some further info about your device(HBOOT, radio etc) and the exact steps you made before that problem, might help someone that would like to help
I really hope that you find a solution to your problem

Hey there! Found a solution: usb brick fix guide

[Q] need some help with rooting please

allright..
I tried rooting my sister's Wildfire today and I've been trying for hours with no luck..
I followed Turkeys' Ultimate Guide to Root Wildfire EXACTLY as stated (I am not a total noob since I managed to do almost exactly the same procedure with my Desire WITHOUT ANY FAILURE..) but this little smartphone seems to outsmart me here.. >_<
first the specs:
hboot is 001 at the end
it's a A3333 Wildfire
already debranded
running stock Android 2.2.1
software version 2.22.405.1
I managed to install the modified usb drivers through hboot, all went exactly as planned, rebooted the PC, did everything by the books...
then I started unrevoked and it
boots into hboot
then reboots
then reboots again and says "waiting for root - safe to restart...)
after the phone is booted up it is lagging as hell
but does nothing if I wait
when I restart the phone unrevoked tells me "couldn't get root - happens sometimes - try again"
and I tried like 20 times but I can't get it to work..
can please anyone help me?
thank you guys so much for any help..
peace
EDIT (!!!)
ok, I get it.. I'm stupid for not reading through this.. I just got so frustrated with it not working..
anyways, I'm gonna try to S-Off this thing.. is there any way to install a ROM - IF I succeed with S-Off - from there?
EDIT 2 (!!!)
yeeeeeesssssss! FINALLY at least SOME progress..
S-Off now (which seemed far too easy but it is off..
so, now what? is there any way to get to root from this or a ROM?
thanks for any advise..
Yo Bro I Had The same Problem I No How to Do all Of It You Got Any Mean Of Contact Such As MSN Or Aim

unable to unrevoke :-(

Hi peeps, just got through a saga of rooting/flashing my Desire HD, so turned my attention to what I thought was the easier task of rooting a Wildfire.
I've installed/uninstalled HTC-Sync , I've installed the hacked USB andriod drivers, I've set the phone up ready in USB root debugging mode etc....
...but when running unrevoked it seems to go through the motions correctly ...but it never completes. The phone just reboots very slowly and the unrevoked app just sits hanging there saying 'its safe to restart if this doesn't work'.
But when I do my little test of running titanium back-up, no root access given :-(
are there any alternative methods to root which don't involve unrevoked. Such as creating a goldcard like with my DHD?
You need to get s-off with revolutionary, take a look at the reference guide(It's sticky). Sry I can't link it coz I'm on my phone

You should find everything you need in here. Guides and links to Revolutionary etc.......
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1029318
...tried the 'revolutionary' (http://revolutionary.io/) appliaction.
It connected to my buzz and said "HBOOT 1.01.0002 not supported at this time"
does this draw anyone close to understanding what wrong?
Hey mate.. I hope these links below help you out because I spent countless hours searching all over the place just to need these 2 links..
Apparently the HBoot you have on ur device needs to be downgraded as that one isn't flashable or somthing.. so check these links out and hope it helps you! I was able to fully debrand my phone with these links

Downgrade to 1.01.0001

because u didn't turn the S-OFF. see full instructions from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1145035 (this is the link which I followed to do and successfully done)
I Hope I helped.

[Q] Ask for help in rooting hTC Desire - Gingerbread 2.3.3 official RUU

Hi guys!
I`m sorry if this issue has already been discussed, but I`ve spent my last 4 days practically non stop online tot find a solution to my problem, and found nada.
Here`s my problem:
I own an hTC Desire and I`ve currently Upgraded my Froyo(2.2) to Gingerbread 2.3.3, running the official Gingerbread 2.3.3 RUU.exe file.
All went well, but this was kinda` stupid on my part. Gingerbread 2.3.3 works fine, but obviously I lost my root access, and also got an upgrade on HBoot, from 0.92 to 1.02, and I can`t seem to be able to root it anymore. I`ve tried everything I could find:
- Revolutionary.io - doesn`t detect my phone
- Unrevoked3 - "Unable to get root; is your firmware too new?" (duuh)
- Gingerbreak(1.0; 1.1; 1.2) - hangs on the root proccess and doesn`t get the job done, I`ve waited about half an hour, and got nothing
- HBoot flash utility from Alpharev (PC reboot on bootable CD from alpharev) - same, it hangs, doesn`t detect my phone.
- Created a Goldcard, copied new updates/ROMs to the root of the Goldcard, rebooted phone to recovery - "Version older than current" (that was expected).
Has anyone succeeded in root-ing the official Gingerbread RUU 2.3.3 on hTC Desire? And if YES, will you please, for the love of God, share it with me?
Here are my phone specs:
Android version: 2.3.3
Baseband version: 32.56.00.32U_5.17.05.23
Kernel version: 2.3.35.10-g3f43272
Build number: 3.14.405.1 CL96875 release-keys
Software number: 3.14.405.1
Browser version: Webkit/533.1
Bravo PVT1 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-1.02.0001
MICROP-031d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101
RADIO-5.17.05.23
Thanks!!!
To narrow it down, revolutionary is the only way so concentrate on that. Ensure you read the documentation thoroughly as it has been successful for many
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
make sure you have usb debugging turned on then run revolutionary
USB debugging was always ON when attempting all of the above, "adb devices" lists my phone, so adb is fully working, I`ve also installed all of the adb SDK Windows drivers, including the "Booloader driver" - basically Windows Device Manager is OK in what drivers are concerned. I`ve covered all the basics, I`m not a newbie in this.
I realise that Revolutionary is the "main way to go", but it doesn`t detect my phone, no matter what I do.
I`m going berserk trying to root it
Not "main", only.
Tried different usb ports/ cables?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Tried that too, tried all of the above on different PCs/laptops, both Windows XP and Seven.
Still nothing
Well you're definitely doing it right it would seem. Maybe see if you can contact the revolutionary guys?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
There`s no contact listed on their site.
Plus, those guys have better things to do than mess around with my little problems
A downgrade would also suffice, rooting is easy on Froyo, but thanks to this version of HBoot, I can`t do that, either.
Users are incredibly lazy and/or stupid when it comes to figuring out how to solve problems by themselves. Unfortunately there are also other naive fools who will help every n00b asking even the most ridiculous question possible. And because of them they will return back and ask stupid question again. And again. And again. I guess this is the new form of trolling, otherwise I can't explain how completely sane people with IQ higher than ape are willing to willingly support n00bs without actually teaching them anything useful.
Thanks for ur "kind" words, Terepin. I do seem to have a low IQ, seeing how I`ve spent all this time trying to figure out a solution to my problem, and failed, ultimately, as a measure of last resort, asking for help here.
Please, "great one", enlighten me - and other "n00bs" like myself - : what is the solution to the problem previously presented?!
Should be easy for someone with such superior mentality.
Fact that adb sees it is one thing, but does it see Windows?
Alright i_cs_u
I did the same thing as you so used Revolutionary and it worked first time for me. I know thats no help but the only things I did different are the usual like unistall HTC sync and make sure you have the HTC fastboot drivers installed which are available on the Revolutionary site. Hope you sort it dude.........
Good question. Do you even have installed HTC drivers?
HTC Sync is long gone from PC, never really found any use for it, and yes, the drivers were installed, got them from the same site as u did. Like I said, I covered all the basics, I practically read each and every thread Google had to offer on this topic; for some Revolutionary worked, but seems like it has something personal with me, won`t detect my phone at all.
What the hell am I missing?
LE
@ Terepin, sorry for "barking" at you dude, just going outta` my mind here cause of this.
LE2
GOT IT DONE!
U won`t believe what was blocking it - THE BATTERY!!!
I`m using a custom made battery - 3500mAh, removed it, used the original one and it worked.
Why was the baterry blocking the software, makes no sense what-so-ever.
Thank you all for your help and patience!
Peace!
I've got exactly the same set up as the OP and want to root my Desire.
Is there a 'noob' guide for doing this using - Revolutionary.io?
Thanks
Yes. There are guides all over the internet. Just search 'how to root HTC desire using revolutionary'. The one on the cyanogen Wiki is pretty good.
