I have used launcherpro, adw, adw ex, go launcher and now mylauncher beta. But that all reload after I guess memory gets low. Is there a way to keep this from happening? I press the home button and all my icons are gone for about 2secs and then its all reloaded. I am rooted on emonther lastest rom any advice is welcomed.
In launcher pro preferences... general settings, there is an option to "keep in memory",...
And also if using Cyanogenmod, in CM settings... Performance settings, there is an option to "lock home in memory" regardless of which launcher u r using.
Well it seems to be working thanks for the tip I appreciate it.

Theres an app called Home Switcher for that. Its free
Yeah he;s right, get Home Switcher from the Market. It's sick and makes it reallt easy to switch. But without an app, you can click Settings > Applications > Manage Applications, then scroll to and select on HTC Sense, click and then select "Clear defaults". That will manually remove the defaults set to the "home" app as preferences.
From there, when clicking the Home button, you will be prompted for which Home launcher you want to use. If you only have Sense installed, it will just show your screen previews. If other launchers are installed, it'll ask you for which to launch and you can set one as default.
Awesome, thanks guys!! Much appreciated.
You could also always just goto market and uninstall awd and reinstall it, it will then give you option when you hit home button again.. Hope this helps..
Or.......
You can also go to settings, applications, manage applications go to htc sense and clear defaults.
the home switcher tis the best option. It's much faster then going to settings>applications>manage applications and clearing defaults.
Thanks
THANKS! Home Switcher wasn't doing the job, but clearing the defaults on Sense made all the difference.

no if u have ADW EX you have to hold down on the homescreen and go to launcher actions and go to the bottom and you can make an icon for launcher settings.

If you want to see "settings" when you press menu instead of having to hit "more" and then "settings", do what this guy said.
Sorry, but I don't think that's quite right.
ADW.Launcher doesn't even have the "Customize Menus" option at all. It is only available in ADWLauncher EX.
But he is asking about ADW Ex.
My fault
Ahh, true enough. My bad, RTFOP.
I am trying to figure out the same thing, but for ADWLauncher. These instructions did nothing for me, and when I didn't see the "EX" distinction in the instructions, I jumped the gun.
So, these work for the OP, but not for me :/ I'll keep looking, I suppose.
I'm on CM7 and figured out if I close the dock bar on the bottom I can still pin icons down there and it has a cool reflective effect. When I reboot I have to close the dockbar everytime. How can I make the settings stay?
I'm using the shortcut from longpressing homescreen- launcher actions- open close dockbar and keeping it on my homescreen.
Gone through adwsettings still nothing.

Good question...I was wondering the same.
And does anyone know whether CM7 has ADW or ADW Ex and can I install ADW Ex without causing problems?
@TonyArmstrong
Cm7 does not use ex, but you can install ex and use it if you like. Well, I can so you SHOULD be able to anyway

The second dockbar is considered the "hidden dockbar", and is hidden by default whenever ADW launches. I'm pretty sure there's no way to use it over the main dock, you have to "close" the main one.
I use both. You can also close the dock by swiping up on the middle icon (app drawer by default). I've actually got rid of my app drawer icon altogether. With gestures on the homescreens, swipe up opens app drawer, swipe down open/closes the dock. You can set your gestures to do whatever.

Yes you can install ADW EX without any problems, it's well worth it. I use EX and it is way faster and smoother. Just be sure to uninstall the regular ADW launcher AFTER you install ADW EX so you can save memory.
Thank you for the input. I do prefer the hidden dock. Too bad there is no way to make it default. oh well still cool as hell. You can get lost in those adw settings...
Wow I wasn't aware you could put other apps in there ... hah, thanks! Looks cool, indeed unfortunate can't make it default.

are u on ADW ex? theres kind of a way to do it not exactly sure what your settings are but in ADW ex settings/ui settings/main dock/main dock style/none(expanded desktop) you wont have a launcher. then enable hidden dockbar.
someone else also mentioned you can swipe gesture appear or disappear hidden dock. i have mine swype up to do that but u can command whichever u like.
adw settings/general behavior/gestures...then choose your actions.
-hope that helps! adw ex is cool..
Hmm I'm not using ex and I can set it to none (expanded desktop) however I don't see an option for hidden dock
Thank you though I will give ex a try out.
Will I still be able to use adw settings from menu->settings-> adw settings?

Instead of menu > settings > ADW settings you will have menu > settings and menu > ADW settings separately. You can rearrange the order of the menu in ADW Ex by going to ADW settings > general behavior > system preferences > customize menu. This will put whatever you put at the end under "more".
I also don't think you can choose "none" for the main dock but keep the hidden one. I'll try & let you know if I can.
EDIT: You can choose none for the main dock bit still use the hidden dockbar. However, I think that when it launches (ie after a reboot) the dock will be hidden by default. Unless you just don't like the main dock, you might as well keep it. This is probably something only available in Ex. Another cool Ex only feature is that you can change the background for both docks separately. I love ADW Ex

Edit: seems to just make the original dock transparent.. cool but the reflection is gone then.. oh well

Hi,
It's a know issue for Apex Launche and Nova Launcher (maybe another Launchers?),at last for me it's not a Launcher issue...I posted this about "Launcher redraw" it's for Apex Luancher but maybe it's the same thing for Nova...
Personally I've never had "Launcher redraw" with both Apex or Nova and with LiquidSmooth rom.
Actually I use Nova and no "Launcher redraw",I have no apps or script which could cause this issue,I mean the Launcher is killed at a certain amount of memory used/free (RAM).
Apex have an option to keep it in memory, not Nova yet...
Maybe you can try V6 supercharger http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991276 for adjust the Oom_adj priority and low_memory_killer settings?
It seems that there is also an app for keep the Launcher in memory:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1305060 with different settings...
First check your ROM feature (about init.d scripts for memory "tweaks") and maybe any apps you're using for memory settings (if you have one).Check also in developer option if "Don't keep activities" is untick and "Background process limit" is on "Standard limit".For me it's just a memory setting (the broad sense).
The post I posted about the "redraws",it's a theory or an idea, not a sure thing,a scientific etude or a proof:

I am using NOVA as my daily launcher. Whenever I open any app and press back key, instead getting Nova launcher home and I see stock touchwiz home. How Do I fix this problem? I can get Nova launcher home by pressing home button.
Mine is not doing that. I used an app called homesmack to set nova as default. That may fix your problem. Sounds like every action isn't defaulted to home. Just the home button.

I had that problem with Nova and sslauncher but only when I had backed out of gmail!? Really strange. Do as Aranen_Zen suggested and install a home switcher to see if it helps.
Thank, I will try home switcher. Does anybody know how to fix without installing any other app.

Not sure if you tried this yet, but go into NOVA settings and scroll to bottom...there's a setting called "set default home". It will show what you have set and can set NOVA as default there. Also, in Manage Applications you can clear defaults somehow if step above didn't work.
I have a Motorola Razr M HD (XT926) and am running into the same issue with Nova.
Pressing the "back" button to leave an app takes me to my default home. However, if I leave an app by pressing "home" I am taken to my Nova home screen.
OP, did you figure this out without installing another app?
Doctor, I did as you said to no avail.

I am not sure but with Nova update (or Jelly Bean 4.1.2 update ??) that problem has gone. I had setup Nova as default launcher but still was getting error.

i am not facing that problem now. No idea what fixed it, update to Nova or Firmware upgrade. But I am glad that it has gone.

I have the same problem with my Note 8.0 but it seems to only happen for the Gmail widget, which I use very often. I've tried Nova, Apex and GO launchers and they have the same results. I've tried the suggested home-switching apps but to no avail.
Getting exact same problem
I have a Motorola XT925 RAZR HD. Just installed Nova and set it as default launcher using the Nova settings... made sure the Home Launcher has no defaults... but yeah, backing out of Gmail or Text Messaging would show the default launcher home screen. Rebooting seems to have cured it, but I'll report back if it comes back. Kinda annoying but glad to see others having the same problem, means a software issue, not my phone! heh.
