hey guys,
im tired of playing all my games from the start every time i tinker with my phone and flash a new rom.
Q. which backup option in titanium backup, is the one that INCLUDES save-game data aswell as the app itself?
Save app + data.. Downloaded data will stay on your sd unless you format it (format sd isnt the same as wipe cache or factory reset!)

Will wiping the data (before ROM flash) also wipe the "SD Card" data? I know on other phones, that have a physical SD card, when you wipe data the SD data remains. But, with the Nexus having a virtual SD card, I didn't know what would happen.
In essence, I'm thinking Titanium Backup is useless unless you pull the backup data from the phone before flashing a new ROM, because the backed up data would be deleted with a data wipe for new ROM flash.

The "sd card" data remains. Nothing is messed with in that portion of memory. TiBu works great.

Thanks! I wondered what would happen with a data wipe.
If you flash a stock ROM via fastboot it WILL WIPE THE "SDCARD". EVERYTHING.
Basically:
Stock recovery data wipe/factory reset = SDcard wiped
Custom recovery data wipe/factory reset = SDcard untouched
So if you haven't rooted/CWM'd your phone yet, don't put anything big and important on the SDcard. If you have put stuff on your card just make a backup of it on your PC and then do the unlock/recovery install procedure. Then you'll be set. Titanium Backup will be back to working just like it does on any other phone once you have a custom recovery installed. No worrying about the SDcard getting wiped.
you'll definitely want to install a custom recovery if you're going to be wiping anything. Id highly recommend the clockwork touch recovery. The standard one is really a pain to use as the navigation is odd and its hard to select what you want.
^ I wonder as well, but I proceed without thinking about sdcard. Lucky enough our great dev took care of that. Btw, I didn't have time to see the recovery since when I got it I flash CWM immediately.

Hey guys,
I recently installed a new Rom, and its instructions mentioned that I need to format the system before flashing it. However I forgot to do that.
the rom works fine, but just in case, I want to format the system to make sure that i have no issues with the rom
however, i dont have enough time to have to set up my phone and reinstall all my apps and data etc afterwards (Im guessing that formatting the system will erase my memory)
so basically, Im wondering, if I make a nandroid in CWM before formatting, can i restore it after formatting so that i can have all my data back?...or will it simply undo the formatting?
i just want to know because this could save me a lot of time and trouble, however, if it does undo the formatting, then I have no choice really.
But just in case...
thanks in advance
It depends what you mean exactly by formatting. If you mean wipe data/cache then this will clear all your settings and user data (including apps).
If you say it works fine then I wouldn't worry about doing anything. There might be a slight chance that you see a problem with the rom in the future. If that's the case use titanium to backup and restore your settings and apps after clearing your data/cache.

Formatting system deletes the system partition completely.
That's all it means.
Hence:
Formatting /data and /cache
is the same as a factory reset (as it's labeled).
The Rom probably had a format /system script in there.
Some Rom devs just want you to be extra cautious.
I'm sure you're fine.
And your question about the nandroid...
No.
A nandroid will restore whatever system it backed up.
Greetings!
I was wondering, if it's possible to partition the SD card or something, so I don't have to lose ALL my 10 gigs of music and stuff, when I flash a new rom
Sounds difficult. Just adb pull /data/media to your computer and you're good to go...
Flashing a new ROM shouldn't result in you loosing your music.
Only /data /system /cache and /ext-sd get wiped.

if u flash a new rom with the clock work mod recovery, when you wipe data/factory reset it does NOT wipe /data/media (the virtual sd card with ur music and photo)...so u are ok
only unlocking the bootloader, doing a factory reset in the setting menu on the phone, or flash a stock google rom will wipe the virtual sd
Yeah the SD portion should not get wiped when you flash between roms. Only the first time when you unlock does it get wiped, which is why you should unlock on the first day. But I switch roms and my data stays in tact.
How do you keep the offline saved music in the Gmusic app?
Every time I wipe/factory reset, all the locally saved music is gone. It takes forever to sync all the songs again.

read the posts above
also why "Every time I wipe/factory reset"? u dont need that
wit clock work mo recovery u can wipe data/factory reset without wipe ur sdcard
if u want do a full wipe, then save the Android/data/com.google.music.. something folder on ur pc
Plan on installing the JB Goodness v.8.0.5 ROM coming from Team Sonic. Have to do a factory reset & wipe. What will I lose from my phone's internal storage. Will i lose downloaded pics, gifs, documents etc?
Thanks for your help and answers http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/confused.gif

All your apps will have to be re-downloaded from the play store and you lose all progress in games, etc. But no none of your pictures or music is affected (I'm 99% sure). I save my pictures to my SD Card though..
Factory data / wipe reset is only for the rom itself, as Joe said everything is lost EXCLUDING your internal / external storage.
But if your planning on literally cleaning your phone id suggest backing up all of your important stuff thats in your intSdCard
and exSdCard move the important stuff to your PC/Mac/Linux and then do an internal + external storage wipe just to
remove the left over stuff from apps that save files / temp files into your sdcards.
However you can backup your apps using Titanium Backup Root and move the TitaniumBackup folder to your PC
to backup your apps + data. I've been jumping roms as well and doing full blown wipes for everything ( Data / Cache / Davlik / internal
/ external ) and titanium backup is a MUST if you want to keep most of your apps with data.
However if those apps get buggy ( FC, won't start etc ) then you'll need to wipe the apps data .
All in all, that should be it. Hope this helps, and i hope you enjoy using the JB Goodness rom
i've been trying out new CM10.1 nightlies and nothing has worked as well as 3/17, so i keep reflashing my 3/17 nandroid backup. however, ive noticed that after 1 or two times of doing that, the phone battery has sucked and my data connection is acting funky.
when restoring from nandroid, does it basically wipe the phone and restore it exactly back to how it was, or do files from frequent flashing and trials of other nightlies still stick around?
if so it is the latter, would i benefit from moving my backup to my external SD card, doing a total wipe of the phone 100%, and reflashing the nandroid backup?
At the very least you should wipe cache, dalvic, and factory reset, which you could've learned from a simple search.
When you dirty flash rom updates and backups, you begin to run into these small bugs. Layering your software like this will add up. It's safe to keep a copy of your backup on your sd card, yes. If you perform a full wipe (wipe data, cache, dalvik, and system) you will be removing the OS entirely and allowing for a completely clean install. That's what I recommend. Since you are not formatting/wiping data, you will not lose any.

much appreciated. i did a full system wipe 100% and just restored from the nandroid fresh (it had worked before all teh crazy flashing.).
thanks!
Just to add to this thread, a Nandroid does not capture everything.
Such as, if you have maps saved to your internal SD card from a navigation app, those maps are not picked up as part of the nandroid.
I make a habit of copying my internal SD card contents onto my computer and then restoring them after restoring a Nandroid.
