I very recently asked for help installing CM7 onto my phone. While following a fairly simple tutorial linked to me by the author something hasn't worked and I've been left with a brick. I managed to fastboot the boot.img then when rebooting I was asked to "spam" the volume button repeatedly until it entered another mode. It did not do this. Instead it simply left me with a blank screen. No Sony Ericsson logo and no booting into another mode as the tutorial described. Someone in the thread had the same issue and basically the author just washed his hands of it and asked that guy to make a thread. I did look at the troubled users profile for said thread but for some reason this forum is saying the search is down, so hopefully someone can help me at least get my phone working. I'm done with the rooting/romming shenanigans. If there is a way to just get my phone up and running then hopefully someone can tell me. Until then it's just a brick.
Edit - Tried updating via SEUS but it says the phone has modified software and cant be updated. :-(
Would flashtool work?? I have no idea how to use it tho but am downloading it. Looking for things on here is hard work. lol.
Is your boot loader unlocked? You didn't mention if it was or not. If its not then that's why your bricked.

Its unlocked. The tutorial before the one I mentioned above was about finding out if it was or not and it had a YES next to it in the menu. Along with my IMEI number etc, so I was told I was OK to go ahead with the other tutorial.
Flashtool Guide
Oh rght this should help you, okay. The answer to your question is yes flashtool should work, it sounds like you've got a botched install that's all if you doo this you should be fine
THIS WILL ERASE ALL DATA ON YOUR PHONE BUT NOT YOUR SD CARD
Here's a quick rundown of what you need to do, Download flashtool, download an ftf file, flash the ftf file to your phone through flashtool and then as if by magic your phone should work. So let's begin
Step 1) Turn your phone off - Then leave it to the side.
Step 2) Download and install Flashtool Get flashtool from here
After it has downloaded install it but make sure you have remembered the directory where you've installed it.
Step 3) Download an ftf file. This is a package that contains the stock software that came with your phone and flashing this will therefore return your phone to factory settings or stock.
Here is a thread with a list of ftf files, download the one that corresponds with your phone.
After you've downloaded it move it the folder named firmwares in your flashtool directory. For example mine is C:\Flashtool\firmwares
Step 4) Install the drivers. Navigate to the drivers folder in your flashtool directory, for example mine is C:\Flashtool\drivers From there open the file named Flashtool-drivers.exe and install ALL of the drivers.
Step 5) Flashing the FTF. Once you have installed all of the drivers open flashtool. From there click on the flash icon in the top left corner of the screen. Select Flashmode then click OK.
Select the FTF file you downloaded and moved to the firmwares folder and then click OK.
You will then see flashtool say it is preparing files for flashing follwed by a popup. The popup will promt you to power off your phone, hold the back button, then plug the USB into your Computer.
After you have done this flashtool will begin flashing your phone. Do not remove the USB until it is finished.
Once it has finished (The log will tell you when it has) remove the USB and power on your phone.
The initial boot may take some time as needs to rebuild it's cache. Don't panic this is normal. After it has your phone shoudl now have booted and be on the stock software that came with it
Hope I helped, if you need anymore help PM me
Thanks for the help but I was just too over that phone so I sent it away for cash (even fuc*ed it was worth £32) and I've got a brand new Xperia Arc S. Thanks.
So coming from this :

Thread i decided to create a new one to collect and focus all necessary informations for the procedure of flashing and rooting the Motorola Defy Mini XT 320.
Credits for Rooting Guide and files goe's to leos0 and i thank him very much for giving us (me) the freedom to root this Phone.
Also many thanks to coder011 he extracted the recovery.img from defy mini which is necessary for rooting :highfive:
Table of Contents:
Do i have Fastboot or not?
How to flash Firmware?
How to gain Root access?
Which Firmwareverisions have Fastboot Mode?
How to flash only older Bootloader to get Fastboot without changing Firmware?
At first, you have to know if your Phone have Fastboot or not.
The easyest Way to find out, is to boot the Phone in Recovery or (if it can) in Fastboot Mode.
Power off the Phone
Power on by pressing both Volume Buttons and the Power Button at once and hold them for 5-10 seconds
if then a screen comes up, you can see if you have Fastboot
look at the pictures below to compare
{

"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",

If you see this, then you are a happy one, because your phone has fastboot. You can directly go to the rooting procedure below. :good:
If you get this screen, you have to decide if you want to risk an flash of different SBF Firmware file as described in the next Part of Guide.
Your Phone has no Fastboot. :crying:
Due to some questions in this Thread i want to make clear, what is necessary to do all this strange stuff.

For anyone who needs it more clear.
For everything that is more than using the Phone as USB Mass Storage, you need to install the Drivers.
What the PC doesn't know, he cannot deal with it.
Drivers are (nearly in everything you do) absolutely mandatory.
And if anything doesn't work on a computer, the first thing you be asked is "Have you installed the drivers?".
Defy Drivers:
http://www.motorola.com/consumers/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=2cff07f8ef573210VgnVCM1000008806b00aRCRD
Install the Drivers and connect your Phone with USB Debugging enabled or bootet in Fastboot Mode (Power up with holding Volume + and - Buttons for 5-10 seconds).
If the Drivers are installed correct your Phone was shown in device Manager like this:
For flashing other Firmware your Phone must connected as Flashing device.
Power it up with Volume - and Camera Button pressed. You see then an Black screen with some white Text.
Connect Phone and let Drivers install.
If your Phone is connected correct it will be schown in Device Manager like this:
Only after you have installed all drivers and your Phone is recognized by your PC as shown above, you will be able to work with ADB or RSD-Lite.
At first, my Guide to flash your Phone with different ROM if your ROM didn't have Fastboot.
Flashing Guide:
And you have to download RSD Lite:
http://www.chip.de/downloads/RSD-Lite_49139659.html
Defy Drivers:
http://www.motorola.com/consumers/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=2cff07f8ef573210VgnVCM1000008806b00aRCRD
Install Drivers and RSD-Lite.
Start RSD Lite and load SBF File.
Then shut down the Phone and Boot up by holding Camera + Volume- (down) and Power Buttons.
If you done right, you see an black screen with white Text, telling you the Device is in flashing mode.
Connect Phone to PC and let Drivers install (after that RSD Lite shows an "Connected" Message in App.
Click on "Start" in RSD-Lite
Flash begins and you see a lot of Message Lines for everey Flash Step.
At the End of the Process Phone reboots.
Now you cann deconnect and close RSD Lite, ignoring the Message that it is still in Progress.
BUT NOT BEFORE THE PHONE REBOOTS!!
Sometime there is an Error and the Flash fails at first try.
You have then to pull the Accu and to repeat flash Procedure.
Warning!!!
You can brick your Phone!!
In some cases the Phone loses IMEI and Connection to SIM and is broken!!
If you do this, you do it at your own risk!
To prevent this and/or to recover your IMEI and unlocked SIM follow this Guide:
[Important] Backup and Restore Defy Mini IMEI and NV Data
Additional Hint.......
If you can't find an ROM of your native carrier which is rootable, search for a ROM of an Carrier from your Continent which supports eventually your Language and Carrier.
E.g. i found Brazil ROM which is rootable but have no German Input and Language. So i testet some European ROM's and found one from Spain which is rootable and have native German Support and APN in it.
So now i don't need to test further because all works great and have German Phone UI.
The ROM i use at the Moment:
http://hotfile.com/dl/184330128/2d4ce8b/TNBST_4_0A.1F.0ERPS_flex_WE_Orange_Spain.zip.html
(you have to register before you can download, ZIP Password is "mod2xtreme.com" but be aware, that the Site is sometimes down)
And feel free to donate to the Board for their excellent Service to offer us this ROM's. :good:
If you have an ROM with Fastboot, follow this Guide to Root (Original Post from leos0 here):
Important!!
Some prerequisits:
Download and extract the View attachment root_xt320.zip to the Root of your Harddisc. Best place is C: so it has to be in
Code:
C:\root_xt320
.
If you place it in any other place, adjust the Path variables from next advices to your needs.
Open Command prompt on PC.
Type in
Code:
cd C:\root_xt320
and hit Enter
Now you are in correct folder to do the next steps
Okey, so, rooting You have to download this : ( it contains fastboot adb recovery.img and update.zip [ I think it is the right one, becourse
i was applying a few of them at one time to save my time xd ] )
0. Copy update.zip to /sdcard/
1. You need to boot into fastboot (NOT RECOVERY, F A S T B O O T ). You can use:
a)
Code:
adb reboot-bootloader
or
b)turn off the phone, then hold POWER+VOL UP+VOL DOWN for 5-10 sec.
2. Now you need to use fastboot. use:
Code:
fastboot boot recovery.img
3.Now CWM TOUCH will boot. There is small problem, it doesn't look as it should, some options are somewhere else etc.
But it works! In normal CWM Recovery i was unable to choose any option, but there everything "works" And you should use
keys on your phone ( POWER to execute, vol. keys to move ), not screen to choose things ( it crashed once when i was using screen )
4. Install zip from sd..(second option)-->choose zip from sdc..)--> ...choose...--> Yes - Install --> Reboot --> back
For commands in [.code] marker you need to use cmd. I hope it will work for you guys You are doing everything on your own so if something dont work its not my fault.
If you want to repost it somewhere, please, just write who invented it You should also thanks coder011 becourse he extracted the recovery.img from defy mini which was very helpful
Enjoy

I will try to update it several times.

Some additional "special" Procedures to have mor Options
Option to flash only older Bootloader with Fastboot enabled without changing your current Firmware and have the Option to root after that.
Some "special" Method posted by Alin Razvan, member of droiddevelopers forum.
Let me explain how i got this working a good sbf flash with a lower bootloader version.
First step you are about to do, is downloading a compatible sbf version that you like !
2nd step flash it with RSD Lite 5.7
3rd step after flashing it go into recovery menu by pressing both volume keys + - and power up .
4th step -> Clean Cache -> Clean User Data , after cleaning select reboot
5th step Let it reboot normally , set it up , connection etc , google account and so on .
6th step Download TNBST_4_0A.1F.0ERPS_flex_WE_Orange_Spain.sbf
Power off the phone , remove battery , pres camera button + volume down+power insert usb (if doesn't power up attach battery but only for a second than remove it) , now you should be in boot mode .
Open RSD Lite 5.7 select the TNBST_4_0A.1F.0ERPS_flex_WE_Orange_Spain sbf file and (read bellow).
Here comes the tricky part !!!
Be carefull and fast otherwise you got to flash again your favorite sbf ,and follow the upper steps again !
Before pressing start button take your phone on your right hand , grab with your left hand the usb cable because you are about to pull it back quickly after you see
Flashing Modem (mdm) or something like i reallly don't remember how the text really was but what you need to do is let it flash some reboot files it takes up 3 seconds after pressing start button to flash those files so you got to be fast boot ) i know it sounds awkward but this **** really works !
After removing usb cable your phone will instantly shut down because it doesn't have the battery on , i did it without battery because i wanted the phone to shut down instant !
So the next step is to power up the phone by pressing both volume buttons + - and power up button , now you should see fastboot menu YaY!
After that, you can switch to the rooting Procedure as described above.

Alin's method consists of loading an older bootloader version. In theory you don't even have to flash an SBF if the one you're using (original or already flashed) is working for you (meaning no simlock). You just go from step 6 onwards.
You put the phone in flash mode by holding camera+vol down and powering the phone. You should see a screen with the following:
MBM Flash-mode.
TinBoost
version: 06.0a --> (versions may vary)
Bootloader USB Init SECURE BOOT ENABLED
Now you have to use an SBF with an old version of bootloader. I don't know up to which version the bootloader has fastboot, but I used the SBF TNBST_4_07.1D.20RPS_flex_LATAM_VIVO. This one has fastboot.
So, you open RSD Lite and use this SBF. When you click start first it will update (in this case downgrade) the bootloader version. It will run some stuff and then you will see the same screen from above again (but now with different version - 01.0a if you use the SBF I mentioned) and it will start the flashing process. That's when you have to unplug the battery or USB cable to stop the flashing. All you wanted was to install the bootloader.
After that you just have to follow the procedures as if your phone had fastboot since the beginnig! That was a very smart move by Alin.

I have tested Alin's Method today.
My biggest Problem was, that my Phone is not able to Power on only with USB Cable connected. I also have to insert Accu (very loose) and to pull Cable and shake out the Accu the same time immediately as the Message of "Modem flashing" (or something like this) comes up on Screen.
I now have newest German ROM ( TNBST_4_0A.21.0CRPS_flex_WE_RTDACH ) with Bootloader (Fastboot enabled) from Spanish ( TNBST_4_0A.1F.0ERPS_flex_WE_Orange_Spain ) ROM and rooted.
Great thing.
Big thanks to Alin and afadel for this!!
Moved to General
TNBST_4_0A.1D.22RPS_flex_WE_RTIT
This is the ROM my phone came with (Italian retail), it has fastboot and it's not sim locked.

Sorry Guy, have you read the above Guide?
This is exactely what i wrote.
But without all the Pull of Accu and USB and, and, and...
Because it is simply not necessary.
Flashing is much mor simple. Just two steps.
And why should anyone flash two times?
First with an SBF of his Wish. And then (by completely overwriting this Firmware in the Phone) with the one you posted?
And exactely this is also the one i used and wroted in my Guide.
But a lot of Asian and Latam Users cannot use this because it is not containig their Languages.
So this is why i asked anyone who have rooted his Phone to write here with which SBF he does it.
No bro, you do not flash 2 times.
First time you flash some sim unlocked firmware that works for you, than you flash the one with bootloader, but not the whole firmware, just modem stuff, and then you cancel the flashing by disconnecting the phone so you still have YOUR old firmware, but now it has new firmware's bootloader.
I hope i made it more clear now.

OK.
My fault.
I'm to tired to read conscious. Last 8 days in job was to busy.
Will give it a try.
But i am not sure if i will do it really, because i am very satisfied with my current state. I have installed the TNBST_4_0A.1F.0ERPS_flex_WE_Orange_Spain.sbf by flashing it completely and have set up Link2SD and all works like a charm with constantly mor than 120mb free internal Memory also after installing a lot of Apps. :highfive:
But.
If you agree, i will include your advice in "my" (not really mine, have only made a summary) Guide.
Sure, just write that the original creator of that method is Alin Razvan, member of droiddevelopers forum.

WARNING: I WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE OF ANY FAULT THAT MAY OCCUR TO YOUR DEVICE. YOU`RE DOING THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK.
Okay so after you`ve accepted taking the risk, let`s start...
So,i was spending alot of time trying to make The "OEMINFO-Hack-Tool-v1" to work, I discovered a Simple And way safer procedure...
MAKE SURE YOUR DEVICE IS ROOTED!( Or it won`t work )
1. Download The App ( 5iromtoolbox ) in the attachment & install it in your rooted device...
NOTE: I recommend The "Kingo App" for rooting, its way quick and simple...
2. Click on IMEI backup...
3. After Its completion, connect your phone in MTP ( Media Transfer ) mode, browse to SDCARD
4. Copy the whole folder somewhere in your PC ( Backups are Always Important )...
5. Now, browse to SDCARD/5irom/imeibackup/ and click copy on the file "5.img"
6. Back to SDCARD ( root ), Create a folder named "OEMINFO-BACKUP" & paste "5.img" file in there...
7. Open Up "OEMINFO-Hack-Tool" folder & run "2-oeminfo-hack-windows"...( This time it should Be successful, if u had troubles...)
NOTE: If it says "ADB/Shell denied superuser access", Change your superuser App to SuperSU...
8. After completion, Copy the "Dload" folder of your firmware to the SDCARD & and Turn off your device...
9. Hold "Volume up + Volume Down", then hold the power button ( The Firmware Update process Will start )...
10. After Completion the device will Boot up, But!, Unrooted... ( If your dial *#06# you`ll notice a Blank IMEI )
11. To fix that, Root the Device ( Kingo App recommended) & install the "5iromtoolbox" app again...
12. Go to your "file manager" app and Copy the "5irom" folder to the "internal storage"...
13. Launch "5iromtoolbox" and restore your IMEI...
14. After Completion, RESTART! the device, ( It will do a Hard Reset )
15. After Reboot, Dial *#06#, this time the IMEI would be back to Original....
AND THATS ALMOST IT!
HIT THANKS IF THIS HELPED YOU.

Okay guys,
I spent a whole day yesterday to exterminate lame SONY's firmware, and get a refreshment alternation
so I gathered all tutorials, which I had followed to give my Xperia S new soul, and made this all-in-one tutorial for anyone, who's not sure how to do it.
Big thank to DooMLoRD, who's is making all this awesome tools and stuff to make our Xperias alive again.
Before proceding, Your Xperia S should run on the latest official Sony's firmware (6.2.b.1.96). Otherwise...otherwise you probably ought to update it to the latest version.
Here are the links to the sites I used. I also recommend you to check them out, because there may be a more recent version of a file:

1. Bootloader unlock
Checking (source: JuniorMember's post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=44713761&postcount=14)
1.1.1. In dial pad, type in *#*#7378423#*#*
1.1.2.Go to Service Info > Configuration
1.1.3. And check the Rooting Status
If it's Bootloader unlock allowed:Yes/No, then its not unlocked. If it says NO, you're not able to unlock it.
And if it's Bootloader unlocked:Yes, then it's (already) unlocked.
Unlocking (source: DooMLoRD's tutorial)
[ before we begin unlocking bootloader ]
1.2.1 Get the IMEI code for your device: type *#06# in phone dialer to find it out; note only the digits (no dashes)
1.2.2 Download the fastboot package with usb drivers (alternate drivers if the ones in package dont work OR this)
IMPORTANT: if you are using Windows 8 you will need to enable few things to allow driver installation
1.2.3.Make sure you have a windows PC with USB cable to connect the phone
1.2.4.Power down your phone and keeping the Volume Up button pressed connect the USB cable to PC; this will trigger FASTBOOT mode and windows will start driver installation, extract the above package and point the driver install to that location (usb_driver) folder.
If a phone enters but does not stay in a fastboot mode:I had that kind of problem, but I'm not sure how I actually fixed it; I only remember I did that:
1.2.4.1. Download and install Flashtool . After Installing, go to the folder where fastboot is installed and look for drivers folder; there you'll find Flashtool-drivers.exe. Install that: Be aware that there are Flashboot and Fastboot drivers at the bottom or at the top of the list Check also your phone's name.
1.2.4.2. If still does not work go to Device manager, trigger fastboot mode, connect to your computer, and quickly (when S1 Boot or sth like that appers in Device Manager) click with right mouse button (go to properties), then update driver and point to (usb_driver) folder in fastboot_with_Android_USB_file folder -> step 1.3.6.
1.2.5. Once drivers are installed just disconnect cable and power on device
[ how to unlock ] (official way)
1.3.1 First, you should confirm that it is possible to unlock the boot loader of your phone by checking the service menu: steps 1.1.1 - 1.1.3
1.3.2 Go to: http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/ and read everything!
1.3.3 At the bottom click 'Start Unlocking the Bootloader'. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click "Continue" You will get numerous prompts, read all info and if you agree, click on "Accept"/"OK"/"Proceed"
1.3.4 Finally you will get a "Create Unlock request" page, enter your IMEI (sometimes the last digit needs to be removed for this to work), name and email address
1.3.5 You should now receive your unique unlock key via EMAIL, SAVE THIS KEY SAFELY
1.3.6 Extract fastboot_with_Android_USB_file.rar and open fastboot folder
1.3.7 Hold SHIFT and right click on the background of the folder Select 'Open command window here'
1.3.8 Connect your phone in fastboot mode (turn phone off, hold Volume UP button and plug in USB Cable) [make sure drivers are installed as explained above)
1.3.9 In the cmd windows type in fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce getvar version
1.3.10 If a value is returned (it will return 0.5), it means the phone is correctly connected
1.3.11 Type in fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce oem unlock 0xKEY and replace KEY with the key which u received earlier.
1.3.12 You're device should now be bootloader unlocked. You can check by followin steps 1.1.1 - 1.1.3.
2. Root (source: DooMLoRD's tutorial)
2.3.1 Download the three files from the download section in this post.
2.3.2 Open FlashTool and flash the XperiaS_LT26i_6.2.B.0.211_KernelOnly.ftf - 6.36 MB file, this is JUST the kernel of an older firmware which was rootable.
2.3.3 How to flash Put XperiaS_LT26i_6.2.B.0.211_KernelOnly.ftf to firware folder, which you can find in Fastboot's installation folder. Then hit the lighting strike, select Flashboot mode and select the kernel and hit flash and follow instructions how to enter flashmode.
2.3.4 Now once flashing is done reboot device and connect to PC in usb debuggin mode
2.3.5 CLOSE FLASHTOOL <<< VVVIMP STEP (Very very very important step it took me some time to figure out its meaning)
2.3.6 Extract the file DooMLoRD_Easy-Rooting-Toolkit_v18_perf-event-exploit.zip to root directory on c:\
execute runme_ file corresponding to your OS on desktop PC, this will execute a SPECIAL version of DooMLoRDs easy rooting toolkit <<< VVVIMP STEP
2.3.7 the above step is crucial! if you use any older version of the toolkit then IT WILL NOT WORK!
2.3.8 after rooting is over the device will restart
2.3.9 you can verify if device is rooted by checking for SuperSU app (it is the newest version)
2.3.10 once that's done, power down device and open FlashTool again
2.3.11 now flash XperiaS_LT26i_6.2.B.1.96_KernelOnly.ftf - 6.33 MB file to get back to the true kernel for the firmware
that's it after flashing is done just disconnect and power on device and enjoy rooted phone! Check with Root Checker app from GPlay.
3. CWM Recovery (source: hm9408's thorough version of DooMLoRD's tutorial)
3.1 Go to google play and download busybox. Once installed, open the app and tap install Also, make sure, you have SuperSU installed.
3.2. This should be relatively easy now. Your phone is now rooted, and you will now flash CWM Recovery on your phone. For this, hm9408 found a quick installer by DooMLoRD.
3.3 Just extract it anywhere, run it (cwm-install-en.bat, press Enter 3 times and it will start) while your phone is connected via USB, and you should be just fine. I had to do this step twice, because I didn't know you have to grant something with SuperSU. So during the process, watch the phone's screen.
3.4 You know CWM was flashed correctly when you shut down your phone, turn it on and your see the LED turns on BLUE when the Sony logo comes up. When it does, press the Volume Up button and the LED should turn GREEN for a couple of seconds, then boot into Recovery.
4. Installing custom ROM and gapps (google apps)
There's a link toCyanogenMod 11 beta 3 by RaymanFX which has already included kernel.
Other ROMs may not have included kernel, so you'll have to (1) flash it with Flastool, if it has kernel extension or (2) install it via recovery, it it has .zip extension.
4.1 Copy your ROM and gapps (their extensions have to be .zip.
4.2 Boot into recovery (step 3.4).
4.3 Navigate (with volume + and -, and power to select) to install zip, then select the file of you rom, install it, then install also the gapps by selecting the gapps.zip.
4.4. This is the most important step, DO NOT SKIP IT AT ALL COSTS For God's sake, in the main menu, wipe the cache and partitions and dalvik's cache. (I'm not sure if it's available to wipe dalvik's cache, but if it is, wipe it).
I forgot to wipe, and, holy cow, almost lost my pants, because phone didn't start, there was only sony's logo, slowly passing away again and again.
Well if that happens, look for an Xperia S firmware (e.g.) and appropriate kernel (e.g.), flash them via flashtool and wipe your sweat .
I think for a 2 years old phone, everybody should already know how to do this.
Or i think most of the people here on Xperia S XDA do already know how to do this.

I've had it for 2 years, but spent a whole day yesterday to install CM, because I struggled with fastboot drivers for 4hs, then 1h to root it, then another 2hs to properly install CWMrecovery, because I didn't know I have to have BusyBox installed and then I didn't wipe the cache and had to do everything again. And don't say me everybody should know that, because there are people who does not even try to do that, because then don't konw where to start and nothing.
Cheers!

It takes you one hour once you exactly know how to do it and in case you already have all files downloaded.
And about tutorials: they're often incomplete. In my case, I struggled with finding drivers for fastboot and making them work 4hs. The unlock tutorial says to install one drivers then try another, but none of them worked. So it took me time to search forums and find something out. Here, I wrote what I'd done, so anyone else would know what to do.
Edit: every tutorial about unlocking says Windows should report unsuccessful installation when you connect the device in fast boot mode. Well, my didn't report that, so I wasn't able to point to the usb_folder. And then phone booted up after 5secs in fastboot.

no it took me hour to search for tutuorials (doom has for root and for unlocking BL too), read that, backup TA partiton, unlock, root, flash... DONE
I needed an whole afternoon, too! If you have to read everything from beginning and you are not able even to deal with the technical terms it needs long time. So, if I wouldn't have done it before, this tutorial would have been very useful to me :good:

Well okay. Then write that down to a paper and stick it to a mirror, so you'll see your extraordinary achievement every time you wake up, and be proud of yourself, cause you did all that for the fisrt time in only one hour, although everyone else needed an afternoon. You're probably the smartest person I've ever seen, cause you apparently do magic :good:
Repair shops should totally hire you, since they often need an eternity to do their job.

i only wanted to say that this thread is completely unnecessary.. this phone is more than 2 years old... last update was i think 1year ago.. so there is nothing new... tutorials for unlocking BL (2nd March 2012) and for rooting (17th June 2013) are here for more than a year...and tutorial for instaling CM you can find in almost every CM thread... thats all I wanted to say :victory:... have a nice day
It is kinda necessary..
Some people still dont know how to flash these roms...And then end up spamming other threads...:/

Okay guys,
I spent a whole day yesterday to exterminate lame SONY's firmware, and get a refreshment alternation
so I gathered all tutorials, which I had followed to give my Xperia S new soul, and made this all-in-one tutorial for anyone, who's not sure how to do it.
Big thank to DooMLoRD, who's is making all this awesome tools and stuff to make our Xperias alive again.

Your method is long and unnecessarily beating around the bush. Here's a much quicker way (how I did it in less than half an hour):
1) Copy the ROM zip to your internal storage
2) Unlock bootloader with Sony's info on their site.
3) Extract boot.img from the ROM zip / kernel zip.
4) In fastboot mode,
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot reboot
5) Go into recovery while it's rebooting, wipe everything & flash the ROM zip.
TBH, DoomLord's stuff is not required, never really was for me..
Sure, it's good stuff, but not required in this case..
The tutorial is good, it's just unfortunate, is that after more than two years, yet no one has been able to unlock the bootloader problem that allows not be unlocked.

Hey, hey, hey,
where do you type that code in? In terminal emulator on a phone or maybe cmd on a computer? I've seen a lot of tutorials ordering to type a code, but none of them actually explained how and where you have to write it.
Thankss!

You use fastboot.exe or the fastboot binary for linux, same one that you used for unlocking bootloader..
Finding something to type into terminal emulator is pretty rare, and it'll usually be specified that you need to type it there..

Hey Guys Im Back! Thank you for the support and how it blew up. I have tested this on Android 10 UI 2.0 and it works better then ever!
Also installed lineage os : https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-a10/development/rom-lineage-os-a10-a105f-t4078093
So i tried using afaneh92's tutorial which will be linked here : https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-a10/how-to/magisk-root-galaxy-a10-series-t3963822
Which lead to me bootlooping or softbricking and my storage was reduced from 32 gb to 16Gb so i decided to work on my own method!
Credits go to afaneh92 for the Twrp!
BEFORE YOU START YOU SHOULD HAVE
1.Samsung Drivers installed

i notice thread title says exynos only.. u do know they are all exynos including a102u and a102u1 right?
Oh. Alright thanks for telling me.
Press on app? I have nothing in odin saying that, do you mean ap?
Edit: guess not....i'm bricked, stuck on galaxy logo, device not recognized by pc, holoding power button wont force reboot, nothing lol.
Edit2: can force reboot holding volume down and power but instantly stuck on logo again, cannot power off or enter download, nothing...bricked. Followed this guide to the letter. I assumed when you said app in odin you meant ap since there is no app button. My bootloader unlocked then I went to flash in odin the tar i made with patched boot and vbmeta, along with recovery linked. I used matching firmware to what my A10 has also. Would not mind if i could get back into download mode, but that looks impossible now.
Edit3: Managed to get download mode but had to be so quick...hopefully I can reflash stock now.

Be cause you modified the firmware ignore that message
have you fixed the storage reduced to 16gb problem?
I have a Samsung galaxy sm-a10. I've tried everything here, even combination files. The error I ALWAYS get is 'failed flashing ROM... OEM lock'
Of course I have unlocked OEM in developer options, but still I get this error in the bootloader.
Any ideas?
