boot loop trying to get back to CM 6.1.1 - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i recently flash the gingervillan rom with cm 7, i liked it and all but all the little bugs were annoying and i liked the camera app that came stock with g2 where you could control the levels, so i wanted to revert back to CM 6.1.1 with the theme i had on it which was one i got off the forums, the lucid theme. but when i restored my back up i kept getting force closes, mainly the "android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly, and then some other random stuff here and there that never happened. and if i reflash cm 6.1.1 then try to flash my theme that i was using, it just gets stuck in a boot loop.....
sooo....yeah. help?

Did you revert your clockworkmod recovery back to version 2 before restoring the 6.1.1 backup?

yes i did. and ive tried restoring the back up multiple times through cwr 2 and its still doing it. i just restored an older back up and see how that works, but its only CM 6.1...so ide like to get back to 6.1.1 if i can.

GOSH!!! This doesn't belong in the DEV section, but Q&A....
btw... it's been said in many threads here allready: Flash CWM 2-series before rewerting to 2.2-based roms. If your nandroid is broken, try to flash a clean 6.1.1 first, then try nandroid again...

yikes, sorry guys, i meant to post this in q&a, must of posted here out of habit, i never go to the q&a forum haha. Im going try flashing the clean cm, then restore nandroid, then ill let you guys know what goes on. thanks though.

[Q] Think I bricked my friends phone, help?

I rooted it using simpleroot, and that worked fine, I could get into recovery, had superuser and all that, and then I was going to flash the latest cm6 nightly, and it hung at the splash screen, so I tried to get back into recovery to restore a nandroid backup I made (which is now mysteriously gone), but took me forever to get back into recovery, which I eventually did, wiped data, and installed WD-Slide 1.0.2 and now it's boot looping. I don't know what's wrong, but if someone can help, that'd be great
Read the rest of the thread for that ROM. Most people get stuck in a boot loop. Flash a different ROM.
Ah, thanks. I should have read through that, but I didn't think that that rom was the problem. I thought it was something I did in adb. know why the CM6 build would just hang at the splash screen though?
The nightlys aren't running right use eugenes version of cm6

[Q] ROOKIE questions tried searching....

Hey guys I am a rooted rookie, I have a couple of questions for you guys. First I have just switched over from CM6 over to Fresh EVO 3.4 and have some questions. First question is if I can get the browser from CM6 onto my fresh rom with out being a android genieus? (aka idiot proof way aka click and done) Also to utilize fresh updater I went from clockwork recovery to amon and was wondering if I was able to restore the clock work nandroid using the amon recovery system to go back to CM6 without having to start fresh in CM6? I had tried searchin into both of these questions and came up disapointed
Thanks in advance,
Joe
So no answers on this one guys?
Not sure about your first question but you can't restore back ups from a different recovery. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Also I have fresh 3.4 and use clockwork mod recovery and fresh updater works just fine for me. I used it to update from the 3.3 build.
I'm sorry. I just rememberd that I couldn't use the updater with cwm. I dl the update and manually went into recovery and flashed it. Again sorry I got ahead of myself.
On the second question...you can flash back to clockwork recovery and restore nand backup then reload amon to create a new cm back up. Amon and clockwork back ups are not interchangable.

Hey guys thanks for your advice, sorry I'm late at responding, been busy with school, anyways I'm interested if anyone knows how to get the cm6 browser on my fresh rom. By the way how is damage control roms?
no suggestions about getting the CM6 web browser on fresh-evo rom?

Cyanogenmod Problem wiping

Lately I've been having a problem with my Evo. After flashing the latest stable roms 6.1 and 6.1.1, I found my phone freezes, force closes, and reboots, then wont get past the white evo screen. Ive wiped everything using amon ra and clockwork but i keep coming back to the same issues. I even try not using Setcpu on a clean install and still have issues. I also noticed that everytime I wipe then flash, the google apps show up after my first boot, even though i never flashed the google zip file. Is my phone wiping correctly? What could be the problem?

If this ONLY happens to you when using cyanogenmod roms, then you are not alone. The exact same issue happens to me also ONLY when using CM 6.1 and CM 6.1.1. I have never had this issue with any other rom, both aosp or sense-based, except with CM 6.x roms.

Yea for some reason these last 2 releases just wont work right on my phone. Which def sucks because I love Cyanogenmod roms. Anyone have any suggestions as to why this might be happening?
Try the following:
Wipe data+cache twice
Flash sense ROM
boot
wipe data+cache twice
verify MD5's
flash CM
flash gapps
U recommend clockwork or ra
What? This title for a thread and no poop jokes? The Internet makes me sad.
Seriously, though...
I'm partial to Clockwork now because I use ROM Manager Pro. AmonRa was the one I always used on my Hero. Both are good. It's yet another "personal preference" thing.
CM6 Issues
I too have had trouble with CM 6.0 and 6.1. I flashed CM6.0 Stable, and could not get apps to install or uninstall after flashing. I tried restoring an earlier Nandroid backup of my previously working HTC Sense ROM, and still could not install/uninstall any apps. I tried clearing Market cache, fixing permissions, wiping cache, Dalvik cache, numerous reboots, and flashing earlier ND backups with no luck. I finally bit the bullet, flashed Stock RUU, and had to reroot to get phone working properly again.
Think I would have learned from above, but being flashaholic that I am, I flashed CM 6.1 when it came out. Exact same probs, and again had to reflash stock RUU and reroot.
No more Cyanogen mod for me. Nothing against CM, and it may work great on some people's EVOs, but its only caused me headaches.
Good news is I'm getting pretty damn proficient rooting phone using old-school manual adb shell/rageagainstthecage/chmod exploit method, having done it three times now (although I hope I don't find myself in this situation again).
YMMV
Me too. Tried with both clockwork and ra...no dice. Problem is, when I went back to warm, it left pieces and now even warm doesn't run correct. I tried wiping twice and clearing the dalvik too. I know it wasn't erasing everything because there would be apps that were already installed. Like it was installing to a partition, though I have never set that up.

[Q] Cyanogen 6.1.2 Theme Help

I will admit that I am a noob at this so... bear with the noobness
I have rooted my 3.30 EVO and have installed the Cyanogen 6.1.2 ROM. I backed up my nandroid and wiped using the partition option and the factory option as instructed in every tutorial. Cyanogen 6.1.2 works great in itself, the problem I'm running into is trying to install any CM themes...
I've tried installing the Project_BlissHD-v2.0_EVO_CM_6.1.2_signed theme .zip for CM 6.1.2 through the recovery (not even sure if this is the right way to do it), but every time I try, it tells me that the installation is aborted.
I wipe before each try and have even completely restored a backup and reinstalled with no success.
I have searched and searched for a thread that could help, as I didn't want to have to post a question if I could avoid it. So, how to I apply specific themes through CM? Here's what I've got:
ClockworkMod Recovery 3.0.0.2
Build 3.30.651
Used Unrevoked 3.3
And again, please forgive the noobness....
Clockwork 3.0.0.2 is only compatible with the new hboot. If you're on the old hboot, roll back to 2.5 and try it again.
I had the same problem .. I made a thread about it .. I'm about to try what BIG CHEEZE suggested
I use Amon_Ra ,myself. I would suggest using that one perhaps since it does a better job emptying the delvik cache.
Cheese, I'll try your suggestion about the rollback. I can just do that right in clockwork, correct? If that doesn't work, I'll try Jason's suggestion. Jason, which amon ra version?
And thanks to both of you!
Just use ROM Manager to roll back. You can flash Amon RA through ROM Manager as well.
You're welcome.
Use version 1.8 since I've been hearing some weird things about 1.9.
hummm
i get "An error occured while flashing your recovery" error when i tried to rollback to 2.5.1.4
I'm going to flash RA 1.8 right now.... let you know how she goes.
Ok, so here is how it went:
Flashed AmonRa 1.8 through Clockwork
Success
Booted into AmonRa recovery. Backed up a fresh nand, wiped DATA, CACHE and Delvik. Installed Cyanogen 6.1.2
Success
Cyanogen boots.
Success
Boot back into AmonRa. Repeat all the wipes. Proceed to install BlissHD pack for CM. Installs succesfully.
CM attempts to boot again, but just gets hung up on the splash screen, repeating a new splash every 3 seconds or so. Rebooted several times to see if that would help. No dice. Restored back up nand and am back to square one.
Suggestions?
It sounds like the theme you want is not gonna work with the stock cm6.1.2 kernel...my suggestion would be to try a different theme
I recommend barnacles10 ginger bread theme.

Also when you flash a theme...be patient on its first boot. Restarting during a boot that is loading files for your droid has had horrible results with my experience.
I was flashing a radio update and thought that boot loop was frozen..so I pulled the battery..restarted..and was stuck on the boot screen..then my battery dies while in the process of using hboot...and my usb cord wouldn't charge the battery..so I had to wait 7 days for a standalone battery charger to be shipped

That's kind of where I figured I was heading, jst. I'm going to play around with it tonight and I'll let you know tomorrow how it went. Might try completely different mods too... thinking about fresh.
Again, thanks a lot guys. BIG help.
The theme works great with cm 6.1.2. There are many people using it right now. I'm unsure of what could be happening here. Some phones are just picky. Mine for instance bootloops with any of myns roms as well as virus rom but I have no problems with other roms. I'm sorry my theme didn't work out for you.

Hey, it's no sweat! I've seen all the pics of your theme and I really wanted it. It's slick as all-hell, lol. And as for certain phones being picky, that's more than likely the case with my EVO. Since day one, my phone won't charge if turned off, and if I plug it in while it's off, I have to remove the battery to get it to turn on again.
Don't need to apologize to me... I should be thanking you for making something like this accessible to me!!!
You need the correct amonra recovery.

mikfroyo evo, with a side of aloysius 5 !
Alright, think I know whats up... I decided to humor a thought I had and install a fresh Cyanogen after a nand backup. I installed 6.1.2 and then installed the Gingerbread as recommended by jst. Only this time, I didn't wipe before I installed the theme. Worked like a charm. I'm going to try this with other themes too and see how it goes.

[Q] M919 Rooted But Boot Loops With Custom Rom

I tried flashing a nightly of CM12 on my M919 after no problems for almost 2 weeks. After flashing, my phone was stuck in boot with the CM logo. I tried flashing previous versions of the rom wiping and clearing each time. All I got was the CM logo. I finally decided to start from scratch and reinstalled stock(4.4.4) with ODIN 3.07. Phone booted right up. Rooted the phone with CF-Auto-Root (KTU84P.M919UVUFNH7) with no problems. Ran it for the day to make sure no issues. After feeling comfortable, I downloaded and tried flashing CM11 Snapshot M12 since it's based off 4.4.4. Boot loop again. I tried CM12 with the same results. I'm using CWMR 6.0.4.7. I've tried newer versions of both CWMR and TWRP(I don't remember what versions they were). I'd like to go back to using 5.0, if possible. I'm not sure if I've missed a step in rooting, since it's been so long that I rooted/flashed this phone. Right now it's running stock 4.4.4/M919UVUFNK2 and rooted. Any suggestions as to what I could try?
That nightly may have borked some files causing a problem, the nightlies are usually full of warnings about possibly causing boot loops or lockups and always recommend a nandroid b/u before flashing.
A nightly is a way of trying something out on other people's phones to see if it works well enough to add it as an update to the regular rom build.
If your that desperate for a nightly you need to follow the thread for a couple of days and see how others do with it.
If all you see is "I flashed the nightly and boot loops all over the place, don't bother, otherwise you find yourself in this thread.
Try a factory reset and flashing again,
also get a newer CWM recovery 6051 (if not mistaken) but stay away from the nightlies.
If you really need a reliable phone that works all the time and doesn't windup dead, just keep your stock rooted rom. And lollipop will be here soon as an update, probably by mid-march, the you'll have all the lollipops you want.
