Can the notification LED change colours? - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know that the LED is capable of orange and green, but can it produce any other colours?
I read somewhere that HTC said the LED in the DHD is identical to the one in the original Desire... and the desire is capable of blue, and a few more I think.
Anybody know if we can use these other colours? And if so, how?

I don't know if the LED is capable of producing other colors.
Try "LED me know" application.
You can find it in Market or AppBrain: http://www.appbrain.com/app/led-me-know-beta/com.p0w4.ledMeKnow

Does G2 track pad have color capabilities?

Does G2 track pad have color capabilities like the Nexus One trackball?
Don't think so but not too sure. I think I read somewhere that it turns blue when connected to a bluetooth headset, but someone tried it and it didn't change for them
Generally speaking, any white LED is actually an RGB LED, just because of the way that LEDs create light. I have no clue if that's the case here, but that's how it usually works.
So the file lights.vision.so refers to it as an RGB LED. It also gives an option to set the color. How do you modify that (or can you)? I have no clue. But that file at least refers to it as an RGB.
based on my experience theres different kind of LEDs some with multi colors some are sound sensitive and some are RGB only, therefore you cannot use purple on an RGB LED. BTW the lighting on the trackpad is the same as the one on the physical keyboard if you can change the trackpads color you could change the keyboards do, but you cant, i dont think you can change the color of that. btw the nexus one's trackball is an LED that changes color i dont know if its multi-color but yea the g2's trackpad doesnt have that

Uhhhh…I think you're distinctly unaware about how LEDs work. LEDs emit light of a certain frequency when current passes through them. "An" RGB LED is actually three LEDs, a red, green, and a blue, which together create white. However, by tweaking the brightness output of the individual LEDs that make up an RGB LED, you can create pretty much any color you want. That's how light works (as an aside, there really isn't such a thing as "white" colored light. You're simply seeing equal amounts of red, green, and blue).
So, generally speaking, if you have white, you have RGB (though they have developed "white" LEDs, they're more expensive to manufacture than simply making 3 colored LEDs). And if you have RGB, then you (probably) have the ability to create different colors.
Now, the possible kink in the idea here is that it may be that all three LEDs are run in circuit, so if you have one on, all three are on; you can't modify brightness individually. I don't know if that's the case here, but if it is, then there's nothing we can do. Someone who's done a teardown would probably be the only ones who would know.
PS, have you looked at a G2 before? Because the trackpad and the keyboard are on different parts of the phone. It's physically impossible for them to share a backlight. Not to mention the fact that the trackpad acts as a notification system, and flashes intermittently. Don't think you want your keyboard backlight doing that.
what i meant is the keyboard and trackpad use the same kind of LED, (not running on the same kind of circuitry. yeah someone could prolly tear it down and edit or tamper the LCD by themselves, i know what RGB is btw, i just did not know that white is possible. RGB = red green blue = different combinations of density on R or G or B = different color.
Any white led where you can see a bluish tinge is a white LED that isn't RGB. The trackpad I have a suspicion that its probably one of the newer LED's that's just a blue LED with the special coating that makes it white.

You can't change the trackpad as it's only a white LED. The notification LED is a tricolor (green, amber and red) however I'm not sure as to how to change what color shows when; granted I don't see why you'd want to as it makes sense how its set up now (green=charged/notification, amber=low, red=almost dead)

a app i use to change how fast and how often the led or trackpad led light flashes is Ledmeknow. its free on the market and works great. so far there is no way to change the color of the led
Learn to love soldering irons ;-p
LEDMeKnow has issues with CM7 and Themes .
Its odd noone has found a way to change it. Like said, the top one is only one LED and it is amber/green which should be able to be modified.
Haha I remember the G1 lit up blue when you had a Facebook notification

LedFlow only allows me pattern changes and from what I see only Green and Amber. Have you tried it and have you gotten Blue and Red and Yellow and other colors?
Noone have any information at all?
An LED's colour is a function of the hardware, and thus you cannot change it in software. It would be like giving you a can of red paint, and asking you to paint the room blue.
If only 1 color is included in the phone you won't be able to change the color..post above me was good lol

Hmmmm if we had the right tools would be able to physically change the trackpad LED colors???

When rooted, some phones have LEDs that can be changed to any color.
the point remains the same. those "some phones" are not the Desire Z nor is it a G2.
The fact remains the same: trackpad only shines white and the notification light only shines green or orange (maybe red, i'm not sure).
Refer to the post you quoted for a layman's term on why the DZ/G2 can not change to any color you want.

If by "tools" you mean a soldering iron and a bin of multicoloured LED modules, then yes.

Sure, and those phones would already have LEDs capable of doing that. But if your phone has, say, a green LED in it, you cannot somehow use software to convince it to emit any light other than green. You might as well ask if software can turn a 480x320 display into a 1280x720 one. The answer, again, is "no".

I wasnt sure if it had a LED capable of that as it the LED in it transmits orange and green.
And the display is one of the worst examples ever: You can thru software make your display display whatever resolution you want.

Does Led me know beta allow to choose led color on Desire Z 2.2?

Hi all! I'm trying to figure out if Desire Z would work for me, if I should buy it or not. I have read all the threads on led I could find but thngs are still unclear to me. My provider sells the Desire Z with android 2.2. still. I want to be able to use at least the 3 possible colors of notification led to set amber just for sms, green just for calls and red just for battery for example. From what I could find Led me know stopped working when 2.3. update came for Desire Z. If I DON'T update however, I can not completely understand which possibilities Led me know beta gives and which not. For example, can I choose which color I want for sms and frequency and lenght or will the color for sms be the phones' default one (if it has one).
Or is there any better application with which I could also update the phone and be able to shoose color, frequency, lenght? The pre relese for 2.3 Desire Z does not work right?
Also I can't seem to find anywhere where the led is located. Is it behind speaker girll like on sensation?
Thanks all!
Can't change colors if there is no color to change ;o). No the only colors you get are the ones you've seen already
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
Really? I understand I can't get blue, magneta etc, but I can't even choose for example if I want red for sms and not green?
nope. i mean the app is free just try it. but the trackpad only has 1 color and the charge indicator only has the green and red.
led me know not really meant for our phones
I can't try it, I don't have the phone yet lol. I'm asking this in order to decide wheter or not I should buy it.
I don't understand why it is not at least possible to use the existing colors in customised way. If amber color does exist, why not be able to set it for sms?
How visible is the led behind the speaker grill? I have found it is hidden behind the grill right?
You can set the top led for red, orange, or green. The buttom (trackpad) is white only. Ledmeknow allows all that on 2.2... 2.3 it has problems with. If you want GB and led mods, go with light flow. But still red, green, orange only of course.
But yeah, the mixing doesn't work. All the newer HTC models are like that. I'm not sure why... but you can combo top and bottom led at the same time and they are all very visible. The top led is behind the speaker grill but is extremely visible still. Enjoy your new Desire Z/G2!
What do you mean by mixing?
Does Led me know or Light flow require root?

[Q] LED Lights

Hi,
When I was using my HTC Sensation XE, you can use a file explorer to change the LED color.
I was wondering if I could also do it on my Note 2? (Change LED color via file explorer)
Yes, I am well aware that there are applications that support LED color changing at the Play Store but may consume battery.
have u ever seen the LED go a different color?
i have seen the notification LED change not the touch ones.
Try LED Manager, it doesn't consume that much battery

LED notification not able to display diff colors for apps??

OK so why can't the ZF2 US version not let you display diff colors for the LED light? I'm using handsent SMS and the diff colors wont work and I have also tried using lightflow, etc to have diff colors for diff notification apps. Is there a workaround that people have found?
Thanks.
I too have been trying to find a way to get this work. Unfortunately have not been successful.
Anyone got any tips ?
What colors does the LED support? I have seen green, orange, and red. A friend of mine claims to have seen yellow.
What situation shows red? I haven't seen that one yet.

I just got my Zenfone2 last night and also noticing that it shows a red light when charging, and a greenish-yellow light for fully charged and all notifications. I am very surprised to see it's not supporting multiple colors. Anyone know much about this?

low battery, I think it started blinking @ 10%?
Are there any apps that will make the colors work, or does this phone just not have color capabilities? I tried LIght Flow and Light Manager but they don't seem to take over (maybe I'm doing it wrong) even after giving the apps the necessary permission.
No idea,I tried with light manager too but it seems it doesn't support variety of colors or maybe none of this programs are compatible with the zenfone 2 yet

ASUS Zenfone 2 notification LED
Same problem with Zenfone 2 US version.. Lightflow just won't work. There are only 4 colors that the Led displays. A yellow for all notifications(no matter what kind or source), a very pale yellowish green for fully charged, a yellowish -orange for charging, and a red for low battery. That's it. No matter what I do, there are no other colors. Lightflow doesn't change anything.
Any change? Or there is another way to make them work?

Obviously, you didn't include the right combination of LEDs. Maybe blue and/or green is missing. Stupid decision Asus. All of the LED notifications are pretty much the same color except for low battery and charging. Stupid.

When your battery remains in between 15% to 0% the red light should blink.
The Facebook messenger app is the only app I've ever seen change the color. It blinks red when a message comes in.
