[Q] what files to keep/removed? - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi people,
attached is the list of files in my sdcard of my DHD.
And since I'm new to Android, I don't want to mess things around. So my question is, which of the files can be deleted? And which of the files must present if I were to change to another bigger sdcard?
I'm sorry if this question is asked before, I searched briefly.

You could actually delete all of them. The phone will just remake new ones and all should be fine.

you can backup your clockworkmod folder on your computer which means you don't even have to keep it on your sd card . just put your file you need for a restore on your sd card when you need it again
all other files (except photos/music/personal media) will be recreated by your phone by itself.

[Q] sdcard update.zip question [SOLVED]

Feeling a noob to ask, even after flashing almost daily a new rom.
I want to clean some files from my sdcard. I backed up some importand files like Nand backup files from the folder clockworkmod.
I would like to know if it's save to remove the file "update.zip" or should i leave it or put it back after a reformat of my sdcard?
(If it's important to know. . . I'm running clockworkmod recovery 3.1.0.1 with s-off.)

I would copy it to your PC for safe keeping just in case.
You shouldn't need it. Once you flash a zip, the contents are unzipped and written somewhere e.g. /system for a rom. The zip is just the storage method.
Also, you downloaded it from somewhere, right? Just download again!
Still you never know. Unless you have zero space in your hard drive it can't do any harm!
I didn't download it, I think it comes from using the app clockworkmod (does someone know this?).
But you're right, It's a small file and I can put it back on the sdcard after I reformatted it.

Is this the file?
/sdcard/clockworkmod/recovery-update.zip
I think that recovery would rebuild this folder, including the zip, after a complete reformat if your sd, same as the other folders would get rebuilt by the rom.
I'm not 100% on that though, hope someone will confirm!
No, it's /sdcard/update.zip (but it's the same size as recovery-update.zip)
Oh, something complete offtopic, I see a lot of abbreviations here on the forum but I don't know what FC means.
Can someone tell me what it means?
FC=Force Close. Good you don't know it, means you don't get them?
I think your update.zip is seperate from recovery then. First advice still stands, you shouldn't need it but no harm to keep the copy. I guess you could unzip on PC to see what's in there?!
hi,
i think you are using rom manager, it should comes from this app.
if right, you should have got a folder ingherited from RM (rom manager) with another update.zip (but to be confirmed since long time a don't use anymore RM)
atm (at the moment)
Thnx for your reply's. It was usefull for me.
Can I close this topic myself and mark it as solved?
yes you can marked as solved by edit the title but yiu can t close this post

[MIUI] SDcard problem

Hello everyone, today I´ve noticed the problem on my HTC Desire with SDcard... I am using MIUI ROM, normally flashed via recovery. Whenever I want to look at my pictures through gallery, play the music or browse categorized files using MIUI File explorer, I can see no pictures, no music/videos or image thumbnails... But one interesting thing is that when I want to browse the SD card using classic file explorer/root explorer and want to open the image then I am able to watch it.. I´ve tried to unmount the SD card, replace it and reflash the ROM aswell.
What´s wrong with it? Did anybody have this issue before? Thanks in advance

Hi guys!
Which of MIUI XJ version should I install in order to get more space for installed apps? (D2whatever, A2SD, etc)
Also, can you advise how should I partition my SD in order to adjust it accordingly?
(ext 2 / ext 3 / ext 4)
Thanks!
SOLVED! I have tried to format my SD card and its solved for now...
Solved!!!
Went to recovery mode... partitioned SD card... Though it wasnt detected while trying to format in recovery, it did partition. Now rebooted phone... Only one partition was detected. Connected to PC. Tried to format... No go. Rebooted to Partition. Tried to delete partition, did format, bingo!!!

[Q] Recovery and Time/date issues

Is this a known thing? Does this model not have an internal clock, thus can only set current time when network connected? Any idea why? Can't find any info on this...

Rom manager will not use my external sd card for backups anymore.
By known, what do you mean? Will i never be able to reboot my phone out of a service area and have the right time?
Will renaming nandroids still work with the new blob-style system new cwm uses?
Yeah, you can use Rom Manager to rename one after its been created, or to create and name one using "Backup Current ROM", even with the new type of backups it makes.

Try twrp, the dates are still wrong but there is a keyboard within the recovery for renaming backups.

lost internal memory

so my wife's gs3 was stock rooted...made backups of everything including a nandroid. everything was on the internal memory. i've flashed carbon rom and now cannot seem to find anything. internal appears to be what was on her sdcard. yet when i go into settings-storage sdcard is greyed out without an option to mount. connecting to a pc only gives me one option to connect to. i can't even restore the nandroid. it's been a while since i've been off of a nexus personally so i'm hoping this is something easy i've overlooked and any help is appreciated, thank you

All your files are intact, they have just been moved around since you flashed the carbon rom.
If you had any nandroid backups they are intact too.
Read the following article and you will see exactly where they are using a file manager like root explorer.

thanks...i'm aware of the recovery issues going into 4.2....and i've been using a root file manager. yet i'm still unable to find any other storage. i didn't wipe it but this was probably the first time i didn't save everything to the pc before flashing. i have so much crap backed up from her previous phones that i will never need. f+cking murphy's law...and while i could be mistaken, this shouldn't have an effect on the sdcard not being able to mount, no?

Have you found this folder yet? /sdcard/0 using a file manager like root explorer or any other
file manager which can read the root of the sdcard ?

This information should be accurate enough for OP to find his files.
The SD cards have a lot of symlinks in Android. The one true path for your internal SD is /data/media. Your files are there.

hmm....this always confused me now...i do have the sdcard0 available but not sdcard1 (completely empty)...is 1 the actual sdcard? bottom line, there are other pictures of hers i'm not seeing now and rom toolbox is telling me there is nothing backed up as far as text messages. where ever they're located be it sdcard or internal i just need to find them.

That's for sure, I don't thing the guy is paying much attention at all to what I am trying to tell him,
judging by his replies he just keeps rambling on about things that don't pertain to anything which
I have suggested to him to try.

/sdcard/
/mnt/sdcard
mnt/shell/0/
storage/emuluted/0
storage/sdcard0
data/media/0
all of the above are paths to my internal....none of these are my sdcard
in any case, i believe my card is corrupted. i appreciate the help everyone has tried to give though...thanks to you all
/data/media/ is honestly all you really need to know.. Every single folder/file that exists within your internal storage lie within that directory. Once you find what you're looking for you can take it from there.

Do you have TWRP? You can navigate the same directories using the file manager there or you can simply go into Settings > Storage and look through the categories in which are taking up the most space and remove what you can to then download a root browser and go from there.

Near impossible. If no data has been written to it even the police would still have a hard job. You will need to get all your contacts from the people they related to, sorry.

There is next to no way to restore any file from a piece of formatted memory.
Actually there is a way to do it, but it take your time and energy a lot...
Sent from my Xperia M Single SIM [C1905] using Tapatalk
Well if you didn't perform a full format of the memory card and didn't use it since then, you still have some chances. Connect the SD card directly in your computer through a card reader and run recovery apps such as Recuva or PhotoRec, you may be able to recover the file. If you're going to use Recuva, use Deep Scan mode...
If the .vcf was stored in the internal memory, then it's probably gone, but if you have root you could try some Android apps that do the same, but most of them are paid and aren't guaranteed to recover the deleted files...

Hi, I am sorry to hear about what happened. I don't know if you still have the same problem after all these years, or you already found a way, but I want to help, you can use recovery tools like acethinker disk recovery. Recovery tools today are powerful enough to get back your lost files.
