I've been running a LeeDroid ROM on a rooted A8181 from Telus for a few months now. Sometime in the last week the WiFi hotspot stopped working. All devices can still connect, but they're not given IP addresses. Laptops (Win/Mac), iPods etc.. Same thing on another very similarly configured Desire... no Internet access thru the hopspot. This worked as recently as Jan 8.
Can anyone with a Desire on Telus confirm that their phone can still be used as a WiFi Hotspot? I'm in eastern Canada...
Thanks
HI,
Just unlocked, rooted and flashed latest LeeDriod today on my Telus Desire. Turned on wifi hotspot and used WPA. My macbook was able to connect to the wifi hotspot and able to go out on the internet.

Fixed
Thanks. Just wiped everything and flashed the lastest ROM and it's working again. Weird... I installed just a few apps between the time it was working to when it wasn't. Some of those same apps were installed on the other phone too, so one of those were most likely the culprit. I don't want to guess here which one tho.

After HTC recent official update, my Desire behaves rather erratic on wifi networks.
First, a little history:
Got Desire, AMOLED screen. It is not branded, I repeat: NOT BRANDED!
Rooted with unrevoked. Upgraded to stock Froyo from HTC. Installed recent OTA update.
Now for the problem:
Most of the time I can connect to networks without problems. Sometimes no networks are detected even if they're available.
If I am connected, I correctly get the IP settings via DHCP.
After that, I'm sometimes able to surf the internet for some time. After that, mostly even directly after connecting, there is no more connectivity (not even local), as if no data is transmitted.
What I did in my quest to fix the problem:
Downgraded (with the "automatic" downgrader found in there forums) to stock HTC 2.1, rooted, upgraded to current Leedroid with 32.47.00.32U_5.10.05.23 radio. Problem still persists.
Mobile Network data connection (HSPA) works flawlessly.
So, anyone out there with knowledge on how to fix this?
I use to be able to use Barnacle WI FI Tether but now it seems to have stopped working i have uninstalled and reinstalled it but no one can see the network. If i turn on the HTC Mobile Hotspot my computer can see it.
Im running Skyrider 3 Vanilla RC3
Any thoughts?
Hey all,
I'm having a problem with the Wifi Hotspot function working on my Android 2.2 unrooted HTC Desire.
It worked flawlessly until a few weeks ago. Now, the computer still connects to the network, but I get Local Access Only and not internet access. The USB Tethering function still works though.
I'm in Australia and have tried with both 3 and Optus network sims. I've also tried changing the security settings but still have the same problem.
My initial thought was some sort of conflicting app, but i've tried uninstalling a few and used a task manager to close most apps running - to no avail.
Anyone know of a solution?
Thanks
it happened to me too
u need to reset ur phone...there's some apps override ur setting d...u need to reset
Ive been using autoprime tether for months now but ever since last week when i try to use my laptop with it, the tmobile website shows up saying i used up my hotspot data. My tablet connects to and works just fine. I was on 10r...now im on 10c and reinstalled primetether but i have the same problem. Could it be tmobile found me?
I started using PDANet for Bluetooth tethering, and it shows as hotspot as well. Not sure why T-Mobile doesn't allow Bluetooth tethering seeing as though it appears they can still meter it.
Yes I am having the same problem. The tethering mod doesn't seem to be working anymore. Does anyone know what's up?
Has anyone got WiFi Tether Router to work on the M9? It worked on my M8, but I'm having issued with it on the rooted M9. Or, any other wifi hotspot ideas?
I have an HTC M9 - and recently unlocked the bootloader, rooted and S-Off. (BTW im on Tmobile). After monkeying with the settings in settings.db and the build.prob doc, i got the normal tethering to work on my viper one rom.
I cannot for the life of me get wifi tether router working, and for the time bing have installed FoxFi.
My largest issue is no SSID displays for wifi tether router. It seems to boot but cannot see it on any other devices.
While my FoxFi installation gives me some unlimited tethering, it seems anything that comes across http is metered. While torrent tests do not get metered.
Hoping the wifi tether author fixes the application for the m9. Until then I'll have to live with some small metering on my device.
Hope this helps, if I find some setting combination that works I'll post, though nothing I have found so far works.
