[Q] different mail synchronization settings for WiFi and GSM - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Hi
I wonder if there is a way / application which I can use in order to have a different email synchronization settings for the time I have WiFi connected and when I don't.
I wish to use something like "immediate synch" for the time I connect to a WiFi net and when it doesn't exist (and then use my GSM) - to set it for "1 hour" or so.
Many thanks for your help!

MDA III - Newbie Set-Up Confusion (MSN Messenger)

Hi,
picked up a shiny new MDA III yesterday afternoon having switched providers - number transfer in progress - so I'm new to both the handset and the provider.
Managed to get the unit hooked up to my home WiFi network pertty simply etc and got the Active Sync sorted etc.... other than the fact the GRPS isn't configured out of the box, I've got a single major bugbear to sort.
That is that I don't seem to be able to get MSN Messenger to connect.
It's exhibiting exactly the same symptoms suggested here.... http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;832515
... but obviously the refers to a previous OS version ?
So, either I have something to fix or unlock in the set-up, the port is blocked on the handset (works fine on my laptop on the same WiFi through the same firewall) ?
Had a search through the forums, but to no avail. Can anyone help me on this ?
Are there any recommended patches/fixes I should have installed straight from the off ?
Thanks in advance !
Matt
OK, just so you you don't think I'm totally clueless, from what I've just been reading in the T-Mobile online manual, I have to have the GPRS connection open to connect to Messenger.
Is this right ? Surely if I have a active WiFi connection is should be able to connect using that, right ? Will it connect via GPRS and then pass it over to WiFi ?
I'll have to check it when I get home to see if I can resolve it in that way.
Any other tips gratefully received !
Matt
I'm using Messenger with a CSD (GSM) connection because it's part of my allowance. Sorry but I haven't tried WiFi yet.
I'm having the same problem.
MSN Messenger works fine using GPRS but fails to login using my Wifi connection.
What's even weirder is that it works ok when docked (ActiveSync)!!!
I'm using MDA III on T-Mobile (UK)
Anyone got any ideas?
I've tried replicating this issue, but on my XDA IIs over WiFi, it connects to messenger no problem... it doesn't even try to initiate a GPRS connection first. I can only assume that the MDA III is configured slightly differently out of the box.
As a thought, you might want to double-check Connection Manager and see which type of connection is set for programs that automatically connect to the internet
Ok, home and finished doing the set-up.
I've found no way of using MSN by any other protocol than GPRS. If you are WiFi atached and attempt to use MSN, then it will drop the WiFi connection and instead pick up GPRS. And obviously you're on for .075p per kb... which might be the real answer in why T-Mobile have set-up the device in this way.
The 'programs that automatically connect to the internet' doesn't seem to allow you to select WiFi as the default connection, only the range of GSM/GPRS options and the 'My Work' one.
Should I use the 'My Work' VPN option and set that up to use WiFi ?
If anyonebody has got any tips on how to set or hack this... seems there are a few of us that might benefit !
Just out of curiosity: if you go into your WiFi manager, have you specifically told the device that the WiFi card in your MDA III connects you to "The Internet"?
I can't recall whether that was the default setting before I set up my wireless network connection on my IIs... it seems like such a no-brainer, but it could assume that your WiFi connection is to a work network etc.
I'm at work and it 's at home.... but I'm adamant that that it knows that the WiFi connection connects to the Intanet. As you say, I think that it is the default setting
However, I will check !
Any other MDA III owners shed any light on this ?

Using Wifi then GPRS for checking e-mail

Probably already posted, but I've searched the forum for like 30 minutes trying to find it and haven't.
When you set up an e-mail account in Messaging, you have can go into options (e-mail setup pg 4/4) and choose the connection. For me, since I have Cingular, my options are MEdia Net, My Work Network, My ISP, Work, The Internet. What I'd like to do is since I have a wifi connection at home, I'd like to use that first as it is faster, but when I'm not home I'd like it to use the GPRS. When I have the connection set to MEdia Net, the phone disconnects from the wifi and connects to GPRS to check for e-mail and when I have it set to The Internet and am not connected to a wifi network, it sends back an error that it cannot connect instead of connecting to GPRS (even if I've already selected to connect to GPRS). Any ideas on how to make this work?
PS - I'm sure this is a newb question, so in your flames to me, could you point me to the answer anyway?

Configuring Wifi for two networks

Hi all,
is there any way to setup two different wlan configurations? do I need any special software?
I would like to have two different profiles (or more!) to connect with my work's wlan (fixed IP) and with my router at home (DHCP with different DNS)... and even with the free wlan at the airport... without entering all IP and DNS numbers every time I change my location.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance

Yes, but i cant explain in english, i speak spanish, but when you are in the network coverage from your home you set it on start, settings, connections, network cards, in there you will see the network available tap on it and set it, then when you are on your work coverage do the same as your home, this will you allow to the networks, sorry if you doesn't understand me, its my best try....
I don't think you understand what fantasmilla means. Basically, I want the same thing. A PDA version of mobilenetswitch http://www.mobilenetswitch.com/
where you can store different ip's, etc dependant on the wi-fi area.
I've been looking for ages but can't find one.

Network Manager
I Use IP Manager from - http://kelbran.com/products/IPmgr.html
works great
I have 6 different wifi profiles on my ppc. I use IP Dashboard http://www.hudsonmobile.com/products.html
But I believe the makers of Battery Pack Pro also do soomething similar.

Getting internet working in wifi through proxy

Hi guys.
I'm trying to get my TP2 to work over wifi using my works proxy server...
I've managed to get it to connect fine at home, and can get it to connect to sites which do not require the proxy to access, but when I need to use the proxy, it just won't access (as if the proxy server is not set up correctly).
Now maybe I don't have it set up correctly?! This is what I've got:
Settings -> All Settings -> Connections -> Connections -> Advanced -> Select Networks:
Programs the automatically connect to the Internet should connect using: mobile web
Programs the automatically connect to a private network should connect using: My Work Network
The "mobile web" option was set up by the Settings -> Communications -> Data Connection, and allows me to use gprs/hsdpa to connect to my provider (O2).
Is there something I have set up wrong? Or is there a way that I can get it to connect to the internet using the work proxy?
Many thanks,
David
Surely someone can help me to get the correct set up for this?
Another bump in case someone decides that they might know a way?
i am also having the same problem, my uni requires all http traffic to go through a web cache proxy script. iv tryed all sorts and it generally just ends up freezing as soon as i try connect to a remote web page
Me too, having the same issue. I managed to connect to my company WiFi after spending the effort of downloading and installing the certificates.
With a big breath, when I connected to Internet, nothing worked. And spent nearly an hour searching this forum for a resolution but couldnt get hold of anything.
Our company uses a URL with the option of 'Use automatic configuration script' in IE. And I dont how to configure this in my TP2.
Man, just checked with my colleague having an iPhone. It was a breeze. The HTTP Proxy has 3 options 1. On, 2. Off 3. Auto and when you enable Auto, it allows to enter the URL with the field label URL. Its a breeze. Why is it so difficult in WM????
Bump....
Please, anyone can give some pointers or if it is not doable? Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Reply from HTC on this....
Thank you for contacting HTC.
With reference to your query, we are sorry because HTC phone can only automatic receive the Wifi signal or use SSID to access to the Wifi network, it cannot check the URL to get the connection.
You can go to Start - Settings - All Settings - Connections - Wifi. Please turn on Wifi there first. Then go to Advanced. Please take a note for the MAC address there and go to your server to add this MAC address to connect it with your phone.
Thank you for your continuous support of our products and services. Should you require further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us again.

Dear All,
Managed to resolve this. My issue was that we had an Automatic Configuration Script in the IE. Hence managed to look into the script for the Proxy Server and the port and set it up in the 'My Work' connections. Also edited the WiFi connection to connect to 'My Work' and i got it working.

[Q] Wi-Fi & Apps

Hi there,
I am using my friend's old HTC Touch Pro 2 as my phone decided to jump into a glass of water.
I have set everything up but my apps (facebook, marketplace, ...) don't seem to use my wifi. I have tested this by turning off my 3G connection and trying the apps. They report, that I have to check my internet connection.
Under Wireless controls > Menu > Connections > Advanced > Select Networks there is a choice of what connection should be used for programs that connect to the internet automatically. But as I go further into these settings it only allows changes for the 3G connection. I'm not sure if this is even the correct settings.
Can anyone shed any light on any kind of solution?
Thanks in advance.
In 2015 still no answer - and I have the same probleme on my HTC TOUCH PRO2 (RHODIUM100).
Hopefully there is a genius that can answer this now
JBJ
In connection manager - did you check if wifi is turned on?
Hi B-44, yes and i have no probleme connecting and surfing the net with opera or IE.
I looked further in to this, so when I go to settings>All Settings>Connections:
In advanced Network I have turned OFF both HSDPA and HSDPA/HSUPA by choosing disable - Don't like extra charges, since I don't have data plan on this number.
In Comm Manager, only Phone and Wi-Fi is ON
In Connections, there is only these options:
Add a new modem connection
Add a new VPN server connection
Set up my proxy server
Still in Connections>Advanced>Select Networks>Network Management> "Programs that automatically connect to the internet should be using:" The options are:
Lebara MMS
Lebara Internet
My Work Network
My ISP
Lebara is my phone company.
- Dailing rules
- Exceptions
-- None that I can see has anything to do with Wi-Fi. Its mostly modem or VPN. I can't add a Wi-Fi connection here unless its something cryptic as setting up an VPN or Proxy server.
Facebook, wAppstore, Windows Live, Youtube, twitter - can't connect.
Opera, IE, Bing, GetJar - can connect without trouble.
I can login to Facebook through Account Manager, but the App installed won't connect to the net.
I'm a bit lost here How is your phone set up?
JBJ
Will take a look.
btw- which system is your Rhodium running with?
WM 6.5 Professional - CE os 5.2.21887 (Build 21887.5.0.86)
I had asked just to be shure...
Now- i don't really have a solution.
As your browsers work using wifi it may be the apps.
On my wm phones i used to install SPB weather.
Some months ago on all of them SPB data update started to fail
and never ever worked again. No matter if on wm5, 6.0 or 6.5.
I couldn't find any hint or solution.
If you search the web "windows mobile facebook supported" you'll find
some entrys which won't please you.
I presume there's no solution to us using wm.
Hi again, actually I'm not so concerned about FB since I hardly use it - its more the other apps that concerns me. Like the Wappstore, Omarket, and so on, I just added FB because its built in. It would seem that there are programs that cannot, use Wi-Fi - but rather want to use 3G.
Is there someone in this forum who know how to make a registry fix or program(.exe or .cab) to re-direct programs to Wi-Fi instead of always going for the 3G net? I would be nice with a switch where you can flip between 3G and Wi-Fi, just like the Curvefish 3G On/Off widget for android http://curvefish.com/widgets/2g3g-onoff.htm
With kind regards
JBJ
I'm still searching When I have a solution I will post it here
Thanks for you effort
With kind regards
JBJ
Hi, I never found a solution - so I guess you need a data plan to use this phone with the FB and other apps that don't like to use wi-fi.
With kind regards
JBJ
