facebook messages - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok so I only did a quick search so if I missed it I am sorry... My question is my phone keeps my facebook status as online (which I don't mind) but occasionally people will send me a chat message and it will show that in the notification bar but it doesn't make any noise or alerts when it does so that message may be sitting there for awhile until I look at my phone again. Is there any settings to make it so a ringtone or sound will go off when that facebook chat message notification is there (like similar to the email notification)?
Edit: Sorry i'm really lame... I knew I should have just dinked around with it before posting this... I just opened up the settings in the facebook app and found that the notification ringtone was set to silent so Mod can delete the thread if you need to.

sms notification not always sounding

i was wondering if this is normal. i use tf3d and if i stay with in the conversation, if the person sends me a txt back, it does not make its sound notification nor does a notification come up. so is this normal feature that doesnt alert me because i am already in the conversation view or is something wrong with my phone?
yeah, i have the same problem periodically...
Here too. :-(
same here..
I have noticed this occurs when the text message thread is still 'open' on the phone. If you close that particular conversation and go to the 'All Messages' view, the notification will sound.
I believe this is a 'feature' so that the notification does not go off if you are looking at the application waiting for a text.

thats what I thought it might be. It reminds me of how IM programs handle replies where you can have the sound disabled if you have a chat window open
I've been trying to figure this out all night. It's been working all alone until today. I hard rest and the problem is still there. I flashed merdinH rom again, same problem. flashed to Energy ROM same problem. Flashed back to merdinH and have working to resolve this all night. Hope someone else has better luck then I've had tonight.

Yup, me too. I wonder if there is a registry edit to disable that feature. I want my phone to go off every time there is a message. Sometimes I'm lazy and don't close the conversation out, and just leave my phone in my pocket...next thing you know, 3 missed texts and the person thinks you are ignoring them.
I'm glad this has been brought up. Hope someone comes up with a solution.

SMS Notification mixed up!!!! Strange icon in notifications

Hey guys i noticed 2 days ago that when i receive an sms i get two notifications (previously i had only one). The first one says that i have # new messages and when you click on it it takes you to the messages app where you see all the threads you have. And the second notification is the default one which has the sender and a preview of the sms message.
I didn't find the first notification anywhere neither in the guide or online but i only want the default notification with the sender and the preview...
In addition even if you click on the first notification it stays there but it says no new messages!!!
How do i disable this ???
edit: i uploaded screenshots that show this notification
edit2: i even disabled the notifications in the messages app and i don't get the sms preview notification but this one still comes up!!!
ok please a mod close this thread......it was from the beautifull widgets 2...i didn't have the sms widget on my home screens but it still was getting notifications.UNINSTALLED and everything ok
No No No - Dont close this
This has annoyed me for 4 days now and if this fixes it, then it needs to be left there....
Testing to see if it works now.......
Yup it works, Uninstalled the same app and we have lift off..
Thank you. this has dont my nut in all weekend.....
I have also had this problem for the last few days, but didn't connect Beautiful Widgets with it. Problem solved when BW uninstalled.

Notification Bar

Morning all, got my desire 2 days ago and still trying to get used to it after leaving my HD2. 1 thing i am annoyed at is the apparent inability to turn the notification bar off for sms, received/sent and STILL get a sound/vibrate.
I have found the settings in messages and handcert as i use that as my default sms now.
If i remove the tick from notification bar (in messages menu) and the sound 1 is ticked but then grays out. Nothing is shown or more importantly HEARD even though its ticked but grayed out. I have done the same for the handcert but it seems the notification settings in the messages program override the handcert ones.
Basically i want to have NO notifications on the notification bar but for it to make a sound and vibrate. Can it be done?

You could try duck tape?
Seriously its only fully visable if you pull it down, can't you just ignore it?
no really helpful that, i can ofc course ignore it. but being a non winMo i thought you could edit it so it just never showed up. i'd just prefer not to have to drag the thing down and click clear every time i send/receive a msg.
not asking much for such a customisable phone or so i thought.

If you read the message the notification disappears...
And you can change your whole ''desktop'' except the notification bar as far as I know.
Maybe a rom cooker can edit the android files but out of the box? No you can't change it. Sorry
And many people see the notification tab as a plus, and I do to I really have
a hard time imaging getting annoyed with it so sorry for my first response but it goes in the list of (for example)
1. I hate androids open source way of doing things, wich really is a virtue of android. 2. I hate htc sense (then don't buy it)
thanks for the reply.
I am just slightly annoyed that changing the settings in the original messages settings conflict and over ride the handcert sms ones. gonna try chomp and see if those settings can take priority over the default messages app.

You can set the settings for each program, if you want to turn off notifications, you can do that.
I have turned off notifications from the deafult messaging app and uses hancent's notifications.
If you dont want any og those apps notifications you have to turn them both off

Facebook notifications?

Does anyone get facebook notifications i have not had any yet on my GN or does anykne know how to fix it?
Heck yes I get facebook notifications.. and they don't clear! I get a fb notification in my notification bar, click on it and go to the facebook app, and it's the same notification I got the last 3 times.
I click on the notification and view it close the bf app out and a little while later I get another fb notification in my notification bar. Check it again.. same thing.
quite irritating... don't know how to fix it
Funny thing is I get notifications, but I can't actually view them. When I click on the notification, it doesn't load the app or anything. It just sits there as if I cleared it.
Also, OP look at this link to fix your notification problems: http://www.androidnz.net/2011/11/how-to-enable-push-notifications-in.html
I'm assuming you meant the push notifications.

No SMS notifications from inside conversation

I recently switched from an S4 to a Note 4, and have been missing lots of incoming SMS messages. I realize now that the S4 would beep any time a new message arrived, but the Note 4 suppresses notifications when you're inside the conversation for which a new message arrives. I can kind of see the logic for this - why would one need the phone to beep if you're already on the screen that's showing you the incoming message? In practice, though, I find that I leave the conversation screen open all the time when I'm not looking at the phone.
Most frequently, I keep the phone on a dock at my desk, hooked up to my KVM switch, so I can use my keyboard/mouse to write messages during the day. After sending a message, I switch back to my main computer/monitor and work over there until the phone beeps at me again. I rely on the SMS notifications to grab my attention, but need to explicitly exit the conversation after sending each message now if I want the beep to occur. The same thing happens when I put the phone in my pocket, holster, on the counter, etc. after sending an SMS. I'm sure I'll develop a habit after a while, but it seems foolish to me that I can't just stay in a conversation and have it beep whenever there's activity. This is the only email/IM/SMS app that I have that behaves this way.
I've tried to force the Messages app to beep at me whenever an SMS arrives, but there doesn't appear to be an option for this. Hopefully, I've just overlooked it, so:
QUESTION: Is there a way to configure the Messages app to beep whenever an SMS arrives, even if I'm already inside the conversation for the new message?
I'm using the stock ROM, no root, the default Messages app that comes on the phone, and a built-in notification sound (i.e. not something custom from the external SD card). Vanilla configuration. Thanks for your help.

In phone app go to settings - call - call alerts . There is option to alert you on notifications. Make sure you have this check.

Just to clarify, when I say "conversation", I mean that I'm reading an SMS thread inside the Messages app - not having a verbal conversation in the Phone app. Assuming that this is understood...
In the "Call alerts" page, I see several settings. Mine are configured as follows (where "+" is checked, and "-" is unchecked):
CALL VIBRATIONS
+ Vibrate when answered
+ Call-end vibration
CALL STATUS TONES
+ Call connect tone
- Minute Minder
+ Call end tone
ALERTS ON CALL
+ Notify during calls
Under the configuration above, would you expect the Messages app to beep when an SMS arrives on the thread that I'm currently reading?

Now i'm not sure. i need to see if in scenario you talking about i have notification, if i do i will explain my settings.
EDIT:
OK. I have notification. In settings in default messenger i have in notification Notification sound ( choose as you wish)
Vibrate +
Repeat message alert ( I got every 10 Min)
Pop-up display +
Lock Screen +
Status Bar +
What im reading messages i got pop-up with sound on top of message app.
But when im reading message and i get message from same person i don't have sound notification. It must be setup by software this way.
Did you find a fix? Mine does the same thing.

I'm still getting the same behavior. Missed several messages yesterday, in fact. This is the first thing I check after every OS update from AT&T, but I guess most people continue to prefer to not be notified when their text messages arrive.
If my screen is on while I'm in a conversation, you're correct, no notification will occur. But if my screen times out (locks) I will get a notification tone. I guess it just assumes you are looking at the screen if it's on and a message comes in.
Not aware of any way to change this.

I think that that's probably the intent. Maybe my habits are different than others', but I'm frequently not looking at the phone when the Messages app is up. Actually, before getting the Note 4 and training myself to switch off of Messages after reading each new text, I predominantly wasn't looking at the screen while Messages was up.
There's probably no one-size-fits-all setting here. It's just too bad that there's not an option to enable/disable audible notifications to fit individual preferences.
Did anyone ever find a way around this? You figure someone would have made an xposed module or something.
What a response.
Your response sounds like We should all be alike and conform.
Text notifications
Try '8sms' ... only text messaging app that I've found that will consistently notify me of incoming texts. Some apps will for a time but then stop doing so. This one has worked well for me.
