Where can I find these? HTC Sync isn't giving me them...
You can try the pdanet app to install the right drivers, but Im really surprised that HTC Sync is not working. So go on the market and find pdanet app install it on your phone and then go to here: http://www.junefabrics.com/android/ and download the version for your computer, then hook up your phone to your computer and it should install the right drivers.
Update : You can also try here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=802316&highlight=drivers
When you say that HTC Sync isn't giving them to you, what do you mean exactly ? Because HTC Sync includes a whole load of USB drivers, located in (for XP, anyway) \Program Files\HTC\HTC Driver\Driver Files.

Desire uses 2.0.28 it is on root of SD card
Are you using 64 bit or 32 bit Windows 7?
I had similar issues in 64, and needed to manually place the HTC drivers in the Program Folder.
You can download the HTC x64 Drivers from here:
http ://www.multiupload.com/86L5JXTK0S
Just place them in the HTC directory (i.e. "C:\Program Files (x86)\HTC\" or where ever you choose to install HTC Sync. And then just reinstall the version that is located on the SD Card that came with the Desire.
Hope that helps, it worked for me.
had no issues with my W7 x64 Ultimate laptop and drivers - installed first time using HTCSync on the SD card

Well You probably did not noticed that on the root of SD card is a new version of HTC sync 2.0.28.
So as I wrote, he only need to intall this new version 2.0.28 from SD card. Old version 2.0.25 comes with Legend and is not working with Desire.
in each section of this forum..i find the same question, whoever gets a new phone..come here ask HTC SYNC & WIN7
kinda funny

No I did notice that and that what I used and if you read point out. I was simply giving a piece of advice that worked for me in with the problem that I had.
It works fine on win7 x64, never tried on 32 but i assume its the same.
I posted a download link if you were like me and a few others whom deleted it by mistake. I was lucky i have two HTC Desires so fished the software of the other SD:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=661397
When you install the software it asks to restart i think, you dont realyl need to do this. When you connect your phone it will detect device etc, install drivers. Once done disconnect the phone from computer for a second o two and then reconnect it, this time the HTC sync should appear on your phone. IF you do not select htc sync it will not appear as connected in the htc sync software.
Thanks for the driver link, i didn't find them on the htc site, well i thought win7 would download them automatically just like any other device i've connected to it.
w/e now i can use my outlook contacts and calendar thanks again.
EDIT:
Don't know with older versions but with latest HTC Sync 2.0.28 that's in your phone SD you don't need those drivers.
On my Windows 7 64bit when i plugged the phone a driver installation error pop'd, so i removed the sd card, inserted it in a card reader, copy'd the app on my pc and installed the htc app manually. After the installation i tried again but windows gave me the same driver error, so i just started from scratch.
Unistalled htc sync, reboot, reinstalled it, reboot, plugged in the phone in htc sync and it worked
So probably you've to first install HTC Sync then plug the phone in HTC Sync mode to get it installed correctly.
EDIT 2:
Ok nothing again...
After the first sync i unplugged the phone, now if i try to replug it i get the same driver error and the device can't be recognized. Meh i really don't know what to do.
EDIT 3:
This just sounds retarded, i plugged the htc cable directly on the back of my pc w/o using an extension cable and now it works flawlessly. Gonna play around with it more to see if that's really the problem.
hTC Sync PC Connection Issues
hTC Sync PC Connection Issues
If your hTC device (mines the new hTC Desire “Bravo”)
has connection issues with your PC – You will receive an
error message on you hTC device saying PC not found etc.
Simply check to see if you have your hTC device plugged
into a USB2 port and not the older USB1.1 port … Vista+
should have atleast 1 / 2 USB2 ports. I have 8 ports on the
rear of my PC and 2 on the front. I had connection issues,
but discovered the 2 ports on the front are USB1.1 and
norrowed down the USB2 port which was on the rear of my
PC! Plug your hTC device cable into the USB2 port (may
need trial & error to find the port, but you can check to see
if you have a USB2 port, by looking in your
DEVICE MANAGER on your PC. Open the hTC Sync
programme and then plug the cable into your phone. Select
hTC Sync on your device to do a Sync or select Disk Drive
on your device to transfer music, pics, etc. Any problems
feel free to contact me @ [email protected]
Press F8 when you start windows
Select the option that alows 3rd party drivers
and then let it boot into windows...
I think once you are in there is an option to allow 3rd party drivers.
Evan if teh drivers are from microsoft win 7 will do the same thing... odd but It's theer for a reason !
Sorry I hope this is not off topic and I don't want to hijack the thread but the people using laptops can they check if the laptop will go into hibernation mode with HTC sync installed. My XP netbook wont hibernate and I have to uninstall it after every time I use it, just want to check if it is a driver conflict with my netbook or a generic problem with HTC Sync.
Hey, glad I found this thread. I have been having trouble with HTC Sync from the outset. I have an unmodified Evo with 2.2 and an Asus netbook with Windows7 Starter. I was wondering if it might be the W7 Starter being limited in some way, but it sounds like the problem is across the board. I have managed to sync a couple of times but the phone and computer don't seem to recognize each other reliably. Right now the only thing the phone will do is accept a charge from the computer. Occasionally the computer will recognize the phone enough to install the driver but that's it. Anybody have any new news on this one?

+1 for this one. No issues at all even HTC says Desire is not supported but it works well. Tested iTunes sync and application installation.

I have still a problem updating the drivers and get the sync to work. :s Been trying all day. Windows 7 64 bit here
I have been doing Android development for a while on my work laptop that runs Windows Server 2003 64bit. Previously I've used a HTC Magic (AT&T) and a Moto Droid (Verizon) for development. Now I also have a EVO that I am trying to use. The problem is that I cannot get ADB to work with it.
System: Windows Server 2003 64 bit (work laptop, no I cannot put Windows <whatever else> on here).
Phone: EVO
Since I have been doing development for some time I already have the SDK, along with the USB drivers.
Here are things I have tried:
1. Plug in EVO. It wants to install ADB drivers. I choose the USB drivers location. Fails.
2. Delete USB Drivers. Redownload them from the SDK. Plug in, choose drivers, fail.
3. Plug in, allow drivers to fail, I have the ! in device manager for ADB. Unistall the ADB driver. Scan for hardware changes. Install ADB drivers. Fail.
4. Uninstall the Motorola USB Driver package. Try all above steps, fail.
5. Try to install HTC Sycn, Server 2003 not supported, fail.
What else can I try to get ADB working? Seems funny that it would work perfectly with a HTC Magic and a Droid but not this EVO.
Eureka! I found an obscure post on some crappy forum to a link for what someone called HTC Evo 64 bit drivers, so I thought what the hay, lets try them.
http://depositfiles.com/en/files/yd61xorii
The folder of drivers in there was really called Vista x86 but, still worth a shot.
It worked perfectly. The phone doesnt say ADB in device manager now but "My HTC". ADB is working fine.
Hopefully someone in the same boat as me will happen across this and it will save them time.
Thank you! Saved me a BUNCH of time! You're the man!
The file appears to be unavailable on that site now, could someone please re-host this ASAP? I can't get anything else to work and I'd really appreciate it if this turned out to be my fix. Thanks.

I can't connect on VMWare Fusion and Windows 7. How did you fix your problem? Did you find drivers? Thanks.
wow. never had a problem on windows 7 or ubuntu getting the evo to be recognized. but, head to work, plug it in, and no go. install the sdk and update it, no go. i was baffled, because i've never had a problem before. but, this file did the trick! thanks!
Unfortunately for those of us who are behind a proxy and can't get at the SDK file, going through the stupid SDK to get the driver is very annoying.

Didn't work for me. I'm running Deck's 4.0.3 ROM and can't get my device recognized on my computer. I tried to install the driver pack above through device manager and got an "unable to install" message. Any advice?
I'm trying to root my HTC Desire but falling at one of the first hurdles: I'm not able to install the driver software, I see the following error:
hxxp://i.imgur.com/5n720Wi.png
I'm running Windows 8 64-bit, and I'm trying to follow the steps to root as described here: androidforums.com/desire-all-things-root/300866-guide-rooting-htc-android-2-2-1-lower-unrevoked-windows-updated-20th-december-2012-a.html
I've installed HTC Sync and uninstalled HTC manager, and uninstalled Dropbox. I can connect to the Desire via USB both in HBOOT (with a successful USB connection message) and in regular Android OS.
I experimented with a couple other drivers - "Universal_Naked_Driver_0.72.zip" and "Acer_A1.win8.usb_drivers.x86_x64.rar" I found mentioned elsewhere.
Are there other drivers available? Any other advice for me to root this for the first time?
I have posted sometime earlier workaround to get it working on Win8, search.

That's not right. Because your screenshot shows an Android 1.0 Device and this means the Desire isn't connected correctly.
Uninstall ALL about HTC and Desire. start the device manager and there activate in the options show disabled Device. Than you look in EVERY directory for Android, Desire, HTC. And remove the Drivers. right klick, remove and than yes and make sure if there is a option that says complete delet the driver say yes.
For Fastboot drivers:
Start Desire in Fastboot, and than you connect to the PC. Normaly Win 8 searches for Drivers. Than it says nothing found. Try in the Device Manager right Klick on Android 1.0 - If there is something about HTC Bootloader with an ! than you have an diferent problem - and research for drivers -> Internet. Than it normaly should work. If not download these drivers directly from unrevoke.
http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/windows_hboot_driver_install directly from unrevoked.
and go to device manager, install drivers from PC. Also here make sure the unknown device is an Android 1.0 if the name is different pls tell us.
For Normal use:
after Fastboot works, you download the newest HTC Sync for Desire: http://www.htc.com/de/support/news.aspx?p_id=312&p_name=htc-desire
Ok run the installation BUT After you startet setup it says something like there are a few things missing befor installing. These are HTC Driver, something about Adobe, install these. After that the installer ask for some agreements for HTC Sync now you cancle the install, because all you need are the drivers and they are now installed. It should work now.
If there are some more problems let me know. I had some trouble with the ADB and fastboot drivers a week ago, too but now it works
what is problem about this?
need someone professionals to answer
the attach file can help me to expression it.TQ
Drivers?
Seems like you are missing the HTC drivers. Did you install them?
Download HTC sync, and install it. Connect the phone in fast boot mode. On your computer, go to "c: programs /HTC and take the driver that HTC sync installed and copy the folder on the desktop. Then go to device manager, there will be an unknown device (like Android 1.0),right click on it, do proprieties, update driver and locate the driver folder on your desktop. Done
lol you don't have drivers
install it from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2217397
Hi, My HTC Desire 816 is about 2 weeks old. I've had problems connecting the device to my personal computer (running Windows 7). I've reinstalled HTC Sync Manager several times, turned on USB Debugging, and even switched cables and ports but to no avail. When I try to update the driver, Windows faces an error saying it's unauthorized to install the driver for the device. However, the device connects perfectly to my office laptop also running Windows 7. I am able to transfer files on that system but not on my personal computer. The HTC website also has been of no help, except for asking to reinstall HTC Sync Manager. Please help. Thank You.
me too, need help
Tethering & Internet Pass Through
I have installed the latest version of HTC Sync Manager for my Desire 816 on Windows 7 and tried it on Windows XP as well.
When I connect my device for the first time after that, the drivers install automatically.
My system is recognizing the phone as a mass storage device.
But when I select the 'Internet pass through' connection type, it doesnt connect and after some time gives the error as
"Either you dont have the latest HTC drivers or ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,please get latest drivers by intalling latest HTC sync manger from the website"
I have tried to uninstall and re-install the HTC sync manager several times but had no success with Internet Pass through.
Might be the issue with the drivers, cant understand the reason.
Can anyone help me out with this.
I have also the same problem.

I am pretty sure that you guys have already tried all those, but just wanted to remind you all again as a benefit of doubt. HTC sync manager will install the required drivers usually, but in some cases due to firewall or any antivirus systems within our computer, only few files will get installed and other will get blocked. The best way to tackle this problem is to follow the below steps
1. Uninstall the HTC related drivers if installed partially previously.
2. Reboot the system - which is must
3. Then turn of your firewall or internet security or antivirus on your computer for 10 min or more
4. Connect the HTC 816 to computer using the different USB port that is not used before. (Every new USB port needs installing drivers. So hopefully this might help)
5. Install the HTC sync manager
Hopefully it should recognise. If not, try following the same steps with different USB cable.
Hit thanks if I helped you so that I will know the above steps worked for you guys too as they did work for me personally. All the best.
