So I have been having this problem ever since I got my Evo 5 months ago:
My contact pictures are always missing from the stock htc message app, I do not have facebook and all the photos are ones that I have taken. I attached them by going through People and tapping on the blank face icon and then finding the picture in my gallery that I wanted to use for that contact. It works fine until I reboot and then everyone's picture is blank again, everyone still has the correct photo in People though. Very frustrating because I go through the trouble of taking pictures of everyone for no reason. Everyone else I know has thier message app linked to facebook so they don't have the same problem. There has to be a fix for this and it has done the same thing on every single ROM I have ever flashed, Thank you.
EDIT: I can't believe no one else has this problem, I had the problem before I even rooted my Evo...
happens to me to sometimes relinking the picture to the contact fixes it but its hit or miss
Yeah but I don't want to do that every time I reboot my phone, it takes way too long. Everyone's pictures are still attached when I go into People so that's why I'm confused why they are missing from the messages app...
Try the following in a terminal window (this changes the permissions on the contacts folder):
su
chmod 666 /data/data/com.android.providers.contacts/files/*
Reboot
This has fixed my stock SMS app.
anyway to turn off the mms showing as video when its a picture, this used to happen on htc phones and used to drive me bat**** crazy, any fix for this. stock/rooted thanks
I saw this once on an htc device - the pics come through as a slideshow or some nonsense like that. I don't know of anything to solve the issue with the stock messaging app, but I found that installing a 3rd party one (I like go sms) showed them as pics.
thanks, was trying to avoid go or handcent always had issues, but if i can view them normally, yeah i think its a slideshow, so annoying
Anybody seen an issue where if you try to change a contact picture or create a new picture, it always reverts to one particular picture? My GF was just trying to change her contact picture of me and noticed it after she changed it, it went to a picture of her niece that was originally pulled from Facebook on an entirely different contact. I checked and sure enough every contact she tries to add with a pic gets assigned that same pic. I tried removing Facebook and changing it and still a no go. Any ideas?
Anybody with suggestions???? Anybody?????
i got a pretty annoying bug as of lately. Everytime i try to update a contact's picture on my at&t s3 it updates it to the same picture every time. This happens every time with every contact i try to change. I even deleted the original picture that keeps duplicating and it still updates to that same photo! The only way around this bug that i have found is to update my pictures on google contacts from my web browser. However when i do that all the pictures come out all fuzzy because of the low res. anyone have this same issue?
While I am used to my Thunderbolt, which I just put to rest for my new SGN2, I find myself doing a bit of comparing between the two phones.
I am rooted with JellyBomb 9.0 now, but I was always able to hook my Tbolt up to my PC and view pictures from my phone files (DCIM, etc...) as PICTURES. With this new SGN2, I only get to see icons (the icon says JPG with a mini icon for Microsoft office pictures attached to the JPG icon. I actually have to click on each icon to open the picture which is awful since I take so many pictures.
I also noticed that I can't send multiple pictures as attachments anymore like I used to with my Tbolt. It says I can only send one at a time and then I must reopen the phone file and scroll through everything all over again.
I also have issues getting my pc's to recognize my phone. I keep getting hardware id missing popping up next to my pc's clock. If I go back and forth between MTP and the PTP or unplug and replug enough times, occasionally the PC will find the phone.
Am I doing something wrong??????
I'm open to any and every suggestion
Thanks
Try the stock kernel for ****s and giggles and report back

As for your first question, I can view all my pictures on internal or external storage on my PC through "My Computer" as thumb nails everytime. Maybe it's how your viewing it or the program your using to view it.
As for your second question, simply go to your gallery open the album you want to send pics from. If you want to send multiple pics in one mage from food albums then make an album with the pics you want to send in it. Or just view all pics at once, hit 'Menu' then 'select multiple' small boxes appear at the top right of each pic. Click each pic you want one by one full your done. Then while the ones you want to send are selected hit the symbol to the top right next to delete which is the Share button. Then pick your method of sharing either email or messages etc. It will automatically loaf all the pics on one message, then compile any text with it if you wish. Fill out intended recipient and send.
In short to answer the thread. .. It's you

Twisted, Perhaps it's not me. You told me about your success on question #1 but didn't bother to explain what the issue might be.
The fact that you can see your pics internally or externally is wonderful, but how is that helping my problem??
Thanx for the twisted advice
I have the same issue and find it quite annoying. I've mostly had all HTC devices before and the sd card contents show up fine along with all hidden folders etc. I don't have the same view on my GN2. All the hidden files don't show and only jpeg icons. Stock Rooted Deodexed rom.

I have had the problem viewing picture as thumbnails also. In what I have researched, it may be Windows 7 and probably Vista and how it iteracts with both my GS3 and GN2. If you google " pictures not showing up as thumbnails in Windows...." you will get a ton of results. I have tried a couple, but havent gotten too deep into it yet. Something about the way Windows caches the thumbnails and eventually the cache is full and has to be cleaned out to keep seeing thumbnails instead of file icons. That might give you something to go on... Good luck.
I don't have any advise on the picture issue. I just don't take many pictures. I just use picture preview in file explorer and scroll to confirm which I want to upload to Flickr.
As for the Missing Hardware ID, I don't have a solution, but it is a known issue by Microsoft and Samsung; they blame each other from what I read. Basically, there is a wrong driver downloaded from Microsoft for the Samsung mobile drivers. Some people have had success using the earlier drivers; you have download and disconnect your computer form the internet completely before connecting your phone to your PC after installing the earlier drivers. I've done this, but still have the issue, but I can get it to work with fewer plugging and unplugging the usb cable.
