Hi all,
With reference to this thread I found:
https://supportforums.motorola.com/message/311407
I've got the same problem as he does.
There is no way to set proxy URL and proxy port for Wi-Fi connections. I am trying to access a secure WiFi network at my work but it also uses a proxy to enable access to the outside networks. I can access internal websites but not the "regular" Internet sites.

Been trying to get my Defy working with the university's Wi-Fi but apparently Android doesn't natively support it (sorry if I've worded it wrongly, still new to the OS) due to the lack of iptables.
Would flashing any of the ROMs out there help with this issue? And if so, which?
I'm on the 2.21 firmware.
I've tried multiple apps on the market and also tried following connection instructions for eduroam with no luck.
Thanks

Got a weird problem. GPRS only seems to work upstream - not downstream. I can send MMS but not receive. I cannot download any web pages. checked SIM card in another XDA and GPRS works fine so it must be the phone, not the Mobile account.
Upgraded system ROM and Radio to latest:-
ROM : 1.40.00WWE
Radio : 1.12.00
Ext ROM : 1.31.920 WWE
Tried taking out all the add-on applications from extended ROM in case of conflict - but no luck.
Can't find any way to get GPRS download to work. System is logging on as it can pick up an IP address. Just that no data flows down to the device.
Any suggestions?
MMS has different settings to http. Go to you connections manager and copy the details from the other xda which you tested it on
Thanks - but tried that. Copies all settings exactly but still no luck. Loaded IP Dashboard so I can check network settings. Looks like I am getting an IP address from the network - I can ping the default gateway, but no data ever seems to make it through to the browser. That is what made me think it might be an application conflict - hence removing everything from the extended rom - but still no luck. All very strange.

I have tried my sim card to a mini and all OK no problem but the it only happend on my 2s.
But if I use the CSD connection it seems OK. WHY?
Any workaround, need some expert help here. ???????

Hi all -
First of all, this isn't a "Help - a ROM upgrade killed my baby" post.
All (seems) to be working just fine, and I'm getting email pushed to me very happily (hurrah).
I do, however, have a question about the connections settings, which I'm hoping other UK users can help me with.
I've set up the gprs/umts connection to use access point "general.t-mobile.uk" as my device previously had. I've set the username / password to user /pass, as I found out doing a quick search.
My problem is, though, that whilst the (U) symbol is shown, my connection rate is ridiculously slow (like treacle).
Are there any other settings I should be reviewing? Is that username/password correct?
Thanks for any suggestions

Okay - having rebooted the phone, I'm unable to make a data connection at all. Is this a known problem? Is there an issue with this radio stack (1.0.9) on T-Mobile?
the i-mate rom have wrong settings for t-mobile UK in MMS and data.
You need to set them up manually.
Best way to do it is read the manual on t-mobile site.. it has a step by step guide.
I did that and it worked..
the settings you might have found using google search on 3rd party sites don't work, I tried that already

I am new to tweaking my phone, it is a ATT Tilt 2 and I currently have the Energy Rom and Co0kies. My question is that I cannot connect to ATT My MEdia net thru Opera 10. Can anyone give me any pointers on how to configure it to have opera connect to My Media net.
Thanks

I think you could have been a tad more vague.
How is it possible that you were able to flash a rom and Hardspl the phone but you are unable to load a cab?
When you replaced the rom all the factory settings for your provider were erased. The cab he pointed to you reinstalls the ATT settings. You will still have to go to the connections box and select what you want your data connection to be.
Ask a proper question and on this site you are likely to get a great and informative response.
Oh, and welcome to XDA.
Well, Sorry if my question seemed vauge, Thanks for the cab file. I was able to install it no w/ no problems. My problem is not that I cannot connect with My MEdia net for internet connection, but I am trying to access the the ATT Stock My MEdia net personal Home page using Opera or any Browser.
Any help would be appreciated...
you have to enable the proxy to view medianet sites
go to this thread and download the proxy manager cab, once installed, just open up the enable proxy and you'll be good to go.
Thanks, Will install and check it out thanks...
Installed cab and restored hidden proxys, but I am unable to connect to the site? If anyone is familar with the stock ATT site it is device.home\
Broswer just says unable to connect? Stumped, I have been searching for days... Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks

The ATT Proxy cabs are for internet explorer. For Opera you need to modify the opera config. To do this point the Opera browser to "opera:config"
Once there, go to the Proxy settings and enable these:
Enable HTTP 1.1 for proxy
HTTP server=wireless.cingular.com
HTTPS server=wireless.cingular.com
Use HTTP
Use HTTPS
Use Proxy On Local Names Check
Save the settings. This will get you access to http://device.home
Unfortunately, Celluar Video will not work as it checks the User Agent, and Opera 10 is not supported through the ATT Proxies. You can try setting a custom User Agent in "opera:config" and set it to something like:
"HTC-ST7377/2.07.401.1 (80303) WWE Opera/9.70 (Windows NT 5.1; U; en)"
I have no clue if this will work though.

Thank you for your help, I am still having difficulties...
It basicly timed out trying to connect to the site, so I tried a basic site i.e. google and it still was timing out? I will try again, with the help of one of my co-workers who is more tech savy using the TP2 aswell but is w/ verizon
I cant connect to ad-hoc wifi network, it is well known software android problem at all devices but i tried like this links:
exop.pro/blog/2010/08/15/ad-hoc-support-for-android
szym.net/2010/12/adhoc-wifi-in-android/
when i replace wpa_supplicant, wifi seems doesnt work, i cant find any wifi network (ap or ad-hoc)
please help
I tried creating ad hoc wifi network in my laptop for my defy but failed. The phone did not detect the network. Then I installed connectify instead and it works faultlessly.
Is there any adhoc patch for defy?
*wrong post deleted*
I can connect defy with my laptop without installing any other software. But I'm not sure if it is a ad-hoc network. My laptop wifi driver provide a special ap mode and it can be used to share network.

Same here. I tried all the patches of wpa_supplicant given in this thread as well: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=755254 but the wifi just can't search for any network and it turns off itself.
Another member "webvan" tried the above steps on his Milestone and failed(from the above thread).
Seems like Moto has a different hardware config.
FYI, I'm running 2.2.2 custom rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1037076)
What a tragedy.
It seems there's no such patch for Defy.
for me it worked with 3.4.2_177-005_NORDIC rom which i used for a very long time.
the problem is, you must manually connect to an ad-hoc network.
if you don't want to do that each time, you can install cyanogenmod by quarx and it will automatically connect to your saved ad-hoc network
Maybe you should try update to 2.2/2.3 based rom.
Fyi, i'm now at MIUI rom & got no problems with ad-hoc wifi network.
Dont forget to activate Internet Connection Sharing (for windows user), just to assure your device got IP Address automatically.
P.S Sorry for my bad english
Hey guys!
I have a somewhat paranoid way of thinking of security. I would like to be able to tunnel my browser requests using a ssh-tunnel, especially if I am on an open wifi (even though tls should be secure enough).
I have followed some tutorials online:
First result on googling "tunneling-and-port-forwarding-in-android" (apparently new members are denied posting outside links)
First result on googling "shantanugoel ssh-tunneling-android"
I have set up a port forward with connect bot and have tried changing the proxy settings in AP but when I try to browse, it doesn't load anything.
(First result on googling "My internet connection through my operator (3G) does not work. Can I set it up manually?")
I think some tutorial stated that your device needs to be rooted, but if I have understood correctly, the fairphone should already be rooted, right?
