Im going to change to a 32GB or 16GB microsd card since the 8gb comes with the device is a little too less for me,so some questions here..
what to notice before i buy the card?
is there some card which is slow some is faster?
and what apps i need to use to backup my apps on the card im using right now.
and last, I did register the premium navigation with the voucher given , so the license in on my device or my card?
thanks in advance
Just copy all the files from your current card to the new card via a PC. I did this with MyPhoneExplorer full SD card backup and copied the files back to a new card via Windows explorer.
Speed wise it depends on the class rating of the new card. There's a post with SD card benchmarks on the forum here.

I have just ordered a 16GB SD card to replace the 8GB one I have.
Do I need to format the new card in the phone before transferring the old data?
You have to format it somewhere to be sure you have correct cluster size.
Try card after that with free SD tools (http://veluscek.amebis.si/index.asp?selektiran=sdtools). There is free market link.

I am also purchasing a 16Gb SD card . I was going to format it using the phone. You can unmount the sd card and then format it. Is this not a good idea?
I was also going to copy the contents of my current card to my pc, and then copy it back to my new SD card. I am assuming this is the correct way of doing things.
I just changed to a 16GB Class 2 about 2 weeks ago. I just copied everything from the 8GB to my computer. Put the 16 in, and copied everything from the computer to the 16. Everything is working fine. No formating. I did check the phone before copying to it (16), and the format option was not selectable. It was grayed out, so I just copied.
would upgrading the stock 8gig sd card to a class 6 make any difference?

You'd probably only really notice a big difference when copying files from the PC to the phone. Don't think you'd see much of an improvement when opening anything on the phone.

If I'm not mistaken, mine is already upgraded (so-called) to class 10 from my previous phone. I however do not notice any difference in performance.
I think suddy86 is right. Even if there is, I guess it would be hardly noticed.
I have purchased a class 6 card. It was only a couple of quid more than a class 4. Its a Kingston SD Card, so should be good. Didnt fancy buying an unbranded cheaper card.
Another question that I am curious about. Can a nandroid backup made on a 8GB sd card, be restored on a 16GB card?
i believe you can just copy the contents of the 8gig to the 16gig (unless its a gold card)
Just bought a Play which has come with a 8GB SD card. Previously I was using a Huawei 8220 (Tmobile Pulse) with a 16GB card which is pretty full ... so in reality I think I'll be moving to a 32GB card soon!
Initially I thouhgt I'd just put the old SD card in and reinstall apps etc and work from there ... however looks like the supplied 8GB card already as ~3GB of data on it ... is any of this essential and if its not there does it get auto-installed (I managed to start the phone with the S card not properly reseated and it started talking about needing a card with enough space to install the game when I tried to run FIFA10 ... if I use another card will things reinstall?)
When I get a 32GB card can I just copy contents of both current cards onto it? Or will that just confuse everything! And for now, should I stick to the 8GB card which came with the play and is preloaded with play data or sue my existing 16GB card which has lots of app data on it?

The data on the supplied SD Card is just some tones/wallpers, the sony suite for windows and the asset data for the games that come with the phone. If you don't want the wallpapers and sony suite, you can delete contents, game data can be downloaded anytime by launching the game
I made a copy of the 8GB card that came with my PLAY & also made a copy of the 16GB card that I had with my Samsung Fascinate. I combined both & put all of it on a new 32GB.
So in steps to make best of it...
1) Copy 8GB data to PC
2) Copy 16GB data to PC
3) Clean up anything you no longer need on the 16GB backup
3) Copy 16GB data to 32GB SDHC card
4) Copy & overwrite last with 8GB data to 32GB SDHC card
Now you'll have everything that was given for free from Sony Ericsson as well as what you had previously. I recommend keeping the free games at the very least.
Thanks ... that's about what I'd assumed - just wanted to double check before I did anything stupid!
Ok, so I have my Droid Incredible, which is rooted, and the 2gb storage is almost up, I want to buy another Micro SD Card for the phone, will the mess anything up, and is it possible to copy all important root files and put copies of the rules to the new SD Card ?

Your root is on the system storage of the phone, not the SD card. If you swap it out, you won't have any problems.
Also, you can copy the contents of the SD card over to the new one so you don't mess up any applications that have data on the SD card.
Man, thanks i had the same doubt
Hi guys!
I have a question about using SD Cards.
I'm currently using the 8GB SD Card that came with the phone, but after awhile, the space just seems insufficient.
If i buy a new 16GB or 32GB SD Card, can i just copy everything over to the new SD Card and use it as per normal? Will it affect any of my rooting capabilities or activities (e.g. Making nandroids, restoring nandroids)
Use it as normal. I backup SD card to PC. Transfer what I want to new card.

And if you gonna buy a new card try to get a higher class card like 10 witch is the fastest one ....
The transfer will be alot faster ...
I am having problems with my SD card. I used to have a mytouch, and I bought a Sandisk 4GB back then. When I got the S2 back in Decemeber 2011, all i did was format the micro card to work. The S2 shows that its there under Storage, but i have always have difficulties actually using it. You will see that it has some used into it. I can only reach it through USB connection and transfer file that way. However, whenever I use any programs which can be install under SD card, it will not do so.
As you will noticed below i have a problem call App 2 SD Pro, which it will only show both memories with my phone, Storage and USB, which is the same phone memory. By no means, its finding the Micro SD card. Can anyone tell me why is this? This phone is not rooted and i have only 2.3.6.
Thank you in advance.
If you look through your list of folders under /sdcard, your micro sd is the 'external_sd" folder.
Yes that is true. Is under External SD card. My question is, why are some programs, mostly all, having difficulties to find it? and can i have all for example game files, be saved onto my "external SD Card"?
What is the speed of your sd card?
class 2, 4, 6, 8 or 10?

How would i know that? all i can see on the card is, Sandisk 2 in circle, 4GB SDHC micro. Where else can i check? which class is best?
You have a class 2. It has been my experience that when you move an app to sd card, on this phone it uses the internal "USB" storage.
So what can i do to do the opposite? Meaning, using the actual SD card instead of the internal.
