Hi I was wondering if there is a One Click Root, because well I'm not smart enough to do step 1-19 or whatever so is there a 1 click root for 2.1-Update 1
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide using XDA App
that would be a no
Just gonna throw this out there -- If there was a one click root, wouldn't it be posted in the how to root post?
Also, if there was a one click root why would an incredibly long an complex method be listed at all?
Third, wouldn't it be more appropriate to ask this in the how to root the slide post and not to create a pointless new post and clutter up the development forums?
isnt this the same guy that made the froyo demand thread lol? just ban him

I don't think the mods need to go THAT far...
Chris, seriously, you need to cease creating threads in this forum. Please use the search functionality to answer your questions as, thus far, they have all been asked before and answered as well.
There is no one-click root on this device nor will there be for the foreseeable future. And there is no Froyo rom out yet -- as soon as one is released it will be posted here or on Android Spin.
Oooooh great now people I don't even know want no part in me, greeeat

Nobody really wants you banned, we would just like to see the clutter kept down. This phone is growing in popularity, so it would be safe to assume that, if a new and easier method to root had come along, it would have been posted, and moist definitely stickied to the top. They're wanting to see people use a little more common sense is all.
It the processing of rooting your phone is too techincal for someone then why would they want root? Just use the phone as a phone like most people do.
I would like to see people banned who obviously can't follow the rules of the forum. I would like to be able to come here and check to see if anything new and exciting is happening with ACTUAL android development, but more than half the posts(probably more than 2/3) are pointless things that are already answered elsewhere.

This thread has rattled my delicate existence so damn much! I can't breath with this lunatic posting questions! How dare they not know everything? I demand extreme punishment for ANYONE feeling their way around the forum! My life was perfect until this idiot starting asking how to do things they don't know the answer to! I refuse to be helpful or constructive! Ban him! Ban his children! Ban anyone who takes more than a post to know the ins and outs of the forum! Burn his house down! Salt the earth! No more wire hangers!
frankly i agree that users like this should at the least get a suspension and a link to the rules and search button. just too funny though that i was just arguing that xda has turned to script kiddie playground where everyone wants an easy solution that is just one-click or one button press and be done, who cares about the weeks spent on the original method lets use the simple one and give thanks to that guy.

Seriously? It took me less than a few seconds to click the link, read the question, realize that even I knew the answer, and to go back to the development directory. It didn't even occur to me to be annoyed. This guy is obviously interested in the same thing you are and is simply asking questions to get caught up to speed. At one point in time, you knew as much as this guy did. Perhaps you learn better when people berate and threaten you but normal, well adjusted people don't. Try a little patience. It works.
Also, I do agree that a link to the rules and search button is a good way to stem the tide of superfluous threads. I'm just saying people shouldn't take mistakes as acts of aggression.
yes i may have been as dumb/n00bish when i started hacking phones, but google was my best friend first, and he introduced me to xda, now google is more like the third wheel when search here doesn't work. if you cannot search you should not be allowed to post. if you cannot follow directions (steps 1-19) then you shouldn't be here. part of hacking these phones is that you have to be able to use a computer first, if you can't use a computer then you shouldn't be hacking your phone.
this is just as bad as the people that "brick" their phones and don't know how to fix it because they didn't read the sticky. clutter is what this is all about though, most of us hate that we have to sift through page after page of clutter to find the threads that matter to us.
I can get with that but I know that I will err, from time to time. Ergo, I can't expect other people to not err. (believe me, I will ask dumb questions.) Google has proved to be a relatively useless tool when it comes to learning about phone modding, except that it led me here.
When I make a dumb post and someone tells me to "Get a clue, mongoloid ****!", it doesn't make me want to get better at searching the forums, it makes me want to skin their dog.
I'm eager to learn and, since I'm new to the forum, I probably shouldn't be dictating terms, but it seems cruel to automatically ban or suspend someone who's intelligence might not lie in effectively using a search engine. He might be a cool guy with a horse **** who donates to charity.
People like you have the knowledge base. People like me have **** all. Everything I've learned has come from reading the forums and asking stupid questions. Since I am new, things might fly by me in the Q & A section because everyone's using terms that are new to me. I have yet to find a decent glossary of terms and it's not for lack of trying. I didn't even know what a radio was, a month ago. Because some people are helpful, I now know what it is, what it does, and how to put a new one on my phone.
You're one of the cool kids, you know? Be thankful you've got a grip on this and try not to sweat it when people make mistakes. In my line of work, n00bs don't even ask questions. They just see what people like me do and assume they can do it, as well. Now that's irritating.
I have some excellent grass and I'm more than willing to share if it means everyone will take it down a notch.
Oh, and you're absolutely right. It's just that reading through all of the useful and useless **** alike is a daunting task. You can't blame someone for wanting to bypass it all, once in a while, and to maybe add a little color and conversation to all of the relevant data to make the whole experience more worthwhile.

i like that idea, after a little time for my grass i understand people wanting to take shortcuts, i have been trying to come up with a better solution for root, even if it was a semi-simple batch or script with pauses and questions and directions as you go along. i love to show people how great their phone can be and some of them probably end up here as the n00b i flame for not reading or following directions
The great thing about XDA is that the Mods are very good at what they do and will not just drop the ban hammer for something as simple as asking a bad question no matter how much any member screams for it. There are checks and balances just like any other system of justice. So no need to argue or defend yourself if you are new here, from what I have seen it's actualy quite difficult to get banned and there is a proccess that must be followed before it will come to that.
I thought I asked this to be closed,....that's it I'm gonna boycot XDA and I'm switching to sricktly android sites,...goodbye and farewell, p.s. could some mod someware delete my account,. **Note - this is the Official SDK release...NOT preview emulator**
http://android-developers.blogspot.com/2011/02/final-android-30-platform-and-updated.html
Let's get things rollin for our Tabs!!
How many more threads on this?!
And put it in General!
Only thread in Galaxy Tab forum I've seen (since it was JUST released a short time ago)...and SDK is a Development tool. Apologies if Mods feel otherwise, however, it IS pertinent to 3.0 port attempts at this early stage.
Glad to see at least one troll lurking about.
?? How am I trolling?! There are at least 2 thread asking devs to port. Consider the plea heard. You shouldn't really post here unless you're starting the port. If you have, great! Let us know what you tried, and how it went. If not, this thread is redundant.
And if you're not asking for a port for the Tab (based on the emulator image that's in the SDK) then what are you asking for?
old news, once its out, its old news...working on a comb for my tab, working nicely just the way i wanted to...what sux is wifi aint working, had to use tether
I know there is a Thanks Button, is there a Booo Button? XP
This isn't a request thread...it's a link to the SDK, and to the fact that Google has just NOW released the OFFICIAL SDK for developers. It has finalized API's, and is ready for public consumption.
I did not post it with pleas of "please please make this work on our devices!?!?!"
If devs feel the contribution belongs in another forum, so be it...I for one prefer to contribute what I possibly can.
(Please note that there is a huge difference between afore mentioned "Preview SDK" and this release of offical finalized SDK...it's what's going out on devices live....If I'm mistaken, having only briefy compared the files, apologies)
In which case, we already know! If we are active on XDA then the chances are we read these blogs, we keep up with the world. Pointless threads in the development section don't help. This should be in general. It's general conversation.

And that looks to me like a request to get it ported. Maybe it's just me.
You thread is in the wrong place, there is an Android General section where this should be, not device specific.
/troll I guess
LMAO...wow. Just forget it.
Heaven forbid the forums get locked down to such trivial BS (ie. omg unless you are gonna release it yourself shut up and be quiet).
Information is what keeps our community at the forefront. Either be the type of member that does any little thing to give our devices the edge (post a link to new source, post dump files, etc), or yell at everyone who puts in an effort.
More excited about the potential for a post in wrong forum than the potential for what we've been looking for to get 3.0 up and running.
I'm gonna get my hands dirty!

This is interesting. Now, desire HD and nexus one also have Honey Comb ported. I really would love to see a port for galaxy tab. Although it may not be usable than AOSP but it's somewhat exciting. According to some news on the DESIRE HD XDA forum, Some functionality of the SDK will work with their current kernel. e.q. maybe you can boot the honey comb but others are broken. I am not sure if this is the same as for Galaxy tab but once we get it to display, the rests might be easier.
I don't effin care if the thread gets moved...
I would like to challenge the Mods to put more effort in to filtering out the jerks that troll the forums. Being an individual who prefers to attack any efforts made should be insta-ban.

So what, I have committed 1500+ trolling offenses then?
I'm not attacking anyway. If you port Honeycomb I will be genuinely grateful, I want to see it as much as everyone else. What I'm trying to do is keep the forums tidy. By all means post links to news and the like, just do it in the right section.
I appreciate your 1500+ contributions...I dislike your attitude towards an earnest effort, you aren't a forum mod, so it's not your job to "keep the forums tidy". So effin what if it's the wrong forum, let a dev move it. If I misunderstood the placement guidelines for a relevant development tool, I apologize. It seems the most obvious place for it...as it pertains to development. I didn't link to an article about the release, I linked to the release.

Really though, I'm more sick of seeing your replies saying "shoulda posted in general" than I am of people asking about honeycomb. Maybe you should go spend your time begging for a mod in here and less time contributing to the garbage we have to look though, considering every one of your posts politely informing (lol) people where they should post always turns the thread into a busy thread instead of just letting it die and go to page 2....
I honestly don't know if you're trying to troll or help out, but it's seriously more annoying than newbs posting in the wrong area.
Do people even know what trolling means anymore?
If you're not gonna use it properly....
The tab is not the only android device I follow up on. And I rarely look in general because I'm sick of all the "should I root my tab?!?" and "omg I bricked my phone" threads. This is the first instance I have seen the sdk was released. Once I try Boushh's deodex on my sprint tab, I might be able to start making my tab look like it has honeycomb at least. So thanks OP

In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into a desired emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.

Just because you're response to an innocuous post results in the same reaction doesn't automatically transpose the intent of the original poster.

Grow up and move on!
Really Really wish that XDA would lock everyday peeps from posting in ROM threads.
No matter how many times it is said, seems most do not follow directions then ask why, or ask if they do need to follow directions, or ask why some BS app like netflicks wont work with a different carrier on new ROM.
250 pages of posts and 248 are spam and crap from peeps that evidently should nopt be messing with their phones in the first place.
Sigh ok I feel better now....
What is the point in stopping the users of ROMs from posting about them?
I agree with the above posting, if you deny people from posting their questions, what they learned, what oddity they discovered in a new rom.......... well then, you stymie progress. And, after all isn't THAT what these forums are about? improving our experience and improving our learning ?
If you really look at ROM threads these day there is very little good information or even helpfull information being posted by the masses.
Create a spam thread for the ROM in general, and GOOD information can be transfered to the actual ROM thread in the Dev section.
Everyone is told to search and read first, and I have spent the last few years doing that with out having the need to repost questions that have already been posted. But I will admit that lately with as much growth as this sight has had, Threads are being crapped up so bad it makes it hard to do so, leading to a vicious circle.
Seriously in one ROM thread alone you have 280+ pages now in a fairly new thread, and 270 of the pages are junk posts.
and now how can i download new updates to americandroid rom???
Posting, not downloading.
So we know this is a problem, and we're willing to go to great lengths to protect the development parts of the site as per the announcement.
It's a tough balance, but we think restricting new replies for those with under 10 posts, and new threads for those with under 50 posts will help a lot.

There has been a severe surge in noob activity and the search function has lost all use as they do not use it.
We get 10000000000000 threads all about the same problem.
There must be a way of getting them in control.
The worst is noobs in dev threads as they don't know **** and there for fill dev threads with utter spam and trash.

What if we make it so that you can "down-vote" replies, similar to reporting, and when 3-5 people down-vote the same post or user, it removes/hides the post and bans the user from posting in the thread for a period of time, while displaying a message saying so.

I'm probably one of those guys that sometimes gives snarky responses. I really am trying to be nice and help the person find what they are looking for. That's 90% of the reason I post on here: I remember what it's like to not know much and to come to this community with very little knowledge.
That being said, I also hope people would follow the rules when posting, one of which is to search before starting a thread. I completely understand the complaints of people saying that there's too many threads on this site and it's difficult to find what you're looking for with search, but making a thread that's identical to an existing one is compounding the problem.
The way I try to help out with the problem is to take the time to write out a full response (not just give a link) and to (hopefully gently) point out that this topic has been covered and to look at the correct thread. I know Cnexus and I have been pretty good about this, although sometimes the deluge of MB1 update threads do make me a little short-tempered, and for that, I apologize.

I know that the user is traditionally at fault (the old IT adage of PBMAC - the Problem Between Monitor and Chair), but I also think it's partially the fault of the xda app on the phone. The search function on there is so woefully inept that I have only used it once or twice (and have never found what I was looking for). On the other hand, when creating a thread on the PC, the website even gives you a list of similar threads that might help you out. There are many times where I've been creating a thread and when I put in the title, a half dozen similar threads popped up with the exact answer I was looking for. I know coding this into the android app would be difficult (if not impossible), but it must be noted that almost all of the MB1 update threads had the "sent from the XDA app..." tag at the bottom. I still tell them to search before posting, but I honestly can't blame them because of the apps search function's shortcomings.
Hi
To respond to the first part about allowing abuse...we don't. But bear in mind we have 5 milllion users, 50000 new posts a day and moderators that are constantly moving questions from the wrong section, breaking up childish nerd fights, responding to reported posts, investigating kang issues, and trying to have a job, family and life. We are not reading every post that enters XDA. We respond to reports by users. And every mod action requires several minutes of "paperwork" to document what was done.
Now to the post about searching, yup app search stinks, however if you switch to browser view there are more search options available as well as googling and adding XDA in the search parameter. The phone is quite large so searching through browser view or just with google is a lot easier than in days past.

What's frustrating is all of these rule quoters that do nothing but add to the spam. Just answer the question then point them in the right direction or just ignore the post...
There is a saying you can led a horse to water but you can't force them to drink. But if can shoot the f*cker if he is too stubborn
I know sometimes when I was new to this forum (i am not a developer), I would get irritated when posting a question and you would see a lot of "views" but no replies/posts with any help. But you have to realize (as I did), as smart as these guys are, sometimes, nobody knows the answer to your question! So posting "crickets crickets" or something else snarky to that effect won't help you get an answer either. Most people are nice enough to help and will either post a link that you may have overlooked, or a real answer (or at least acknowledge your existence)...so in that case just be patient for an answer. Alot of the times when you google search, maybe you did not type in just the right terms and didn't get the link you were looking for.

Man I like this forum but don't at the same time.. I love the fact there's so much stuff on here that's so helpful to everyone but at the same time the people on here are 50/50 meaning about 50% you are nice and do realize a beginner has to start somewhere and learn as they go and are willing to help as much as possible you also realize you were once there yourselfs mean while there's the other 50% forget they where beginners and noobs at one point and still think that everyone shouldn't ask questions and automatically think you know the answer as well as give rude and smart butt answers or links... uncalled for is about the best way to describe those answers its amazing that the admin allow these people to give rude and uncalled for comments but when someone responds with a rude or smart butt comment that person either gets a warning or banned and the other person gets nothing kind of interesting to me .... everyone should be treated fairly and evenly .. but had to say something from a lot of posts I've been reading

Ok I'm going to be the other "other" 50% whose pet peeves is when people author forum posts with little to no punctuation, commas, apostrophes, structure, periods, capitalization, etc.

as far as posting links example I was referring to about smart butt links is the google one I've notice is when you click on link takes you to google it automatically writes in the question the person would ask then at bottom it would say " now was that so hard " kinda funny but smart butt to I'm its a simple question that person could of easily just said hey man look please go read the forum rules and make sure you post in the right section simple and nicely said you know

So it bothers you that they held your hand instead of spoon feeding you the answer? Talk about first world problems... If they were really being anal about the rules then that link would take you to www.google.com and you'd be on your own for the search terms - be grateful that they held your hand as much as they did

What's frustrating is all of these rule quoters that do nothing but add to the spam. Just answer the question then point them in the right direction or just ignore the post...

If we just answer the question, we encourage further infractions... It would be kind of like banks taking a policy of giving money to anyone who threatens to rob the bank - we would have more robbers, not less...
Ignoring them almost inevitably leads to more noise from them, not less, so that won't fix their broken understanding of the rules...
But if we add to that spam now, there is a chance that someday, maybe it will end... It isn't likely, but I would rather have the rules on my side
I don't enable people to hide behind excuses - every search on the Internet isn't broken, they just require a little effort (almost as much effort as creating a new post, lol)

How about just showing people how well searching works and provide them proof of it's efficiency by linking them to your search results. This both; enlightens the user of search functionality, while also assisting them with their question.
Hi guys! I deliver this phone yesterday.
It uses stock 2.3.5 and I want to upgrade a newer version.
I see many roms but really do not know which to use with.
As for my expectations from rom. I need as everybody stability, performance and good battery life.
I need your opinions.
From now thanx for your advices.
If you bothered to read any stickied thread in this forum you'd have an answer for this.. It amazes me how not one person reads forum rules or stickies before asking the same question daily...

Reading stickies/forum rules aside; if you're gonna ask a question that's been asked a hundred times before, why not, at the very least, revive one of the multiple dozens of threads where that question has been asked already instead of creating more useless clutter in an already irreparably cluttered board?
Hey, at least he's not asking how to root, or what's with the error after flashing CWM over official ICS
Lol. Yeah that's true.. Its funny if you go back to the sub forum there's (estimate without actually checking) probably about 5 asking what's the best ROM, or how do I root.. Meanwhile there's like 2 or 3 stickies explaining it... In the same exact page!
Um all for forum activity, and a live forum is definitely better than a dead one but come on people seriously.. I'm not trying to be a jerk and sorry if it comes off that way but I've only been a registered member for not even a year and it does get frustrating. Just try to read some posts before making a dumb one.. If you have a question its pretty much guaranteed its been answered.
The forum rules, which are actually a global announcement if I'm not mistaken; clearly state that if you're too lazy to experiment with the ROMs and find out for yourself which one is best then this isn't the right place for you.. And I wholeheartedly agree. I've only had the p930 since last November or so and I've been testing ROMs since day one and I've never once had to ask how to root or which ROM to use... That's the whole fun/enjoyment of android dev IMO.
There's my two cents. If you honestly still can't find an answer then there's probably no hope. Get a friend to mod your phone.. Lol

My conclusion is that the "Search this forum" box doesn't seem to appear for 95% of the people... I mean, that's the only logical explanation, right?

I asked a simple question, and need an opinion. Absolutely I had searched the forum,
there are so many different q/a posts. I have just confused.
Yes. I don't ask how to root or flash. I'm not new on android.
Maybe I know more than you think.
I this is the way you help other peoples who need help.
This is your satisfactionary.
If you don't want to help, just don't type anything. Let it be blank,
So may the others can share their opinions.
And I didn't post for you to chat here. You can send eachother pm (acording your thoughts) about people who want an opinion.
Btw. I don't need your opinion.

Look, I'm glad to have you as a part of the community; there is not one single person who shouldn't be a part of what we have here. All I'm saying is that, instead of posting a new thread to ask a question that has been thoroughly covered in multiple other threads; why not, at the very least, revive an old thread for this purpose instead of adding more clutter to an already cluttered board? It's posts like this which are the reason that there are "already so many different q/a posts."
I never said or implied that you were new to Android, and I never once said or implied that you were ignorant when it comes to Android devices. Believe me, I'm far from knowing anywhere near what I would like to know; but I guarantee you that almost every single question that has been, and will be asked on this board has already been covered multiple times; including "which rom is best". The development section has discussions covering the bugs and gremlins for every ROM released for this device via XDA. No real need to read every single page of each threads, just skim the last few pages and you'll get an idea of where the ROMs stand in their current form.
With that being said, I DO apologize for being a complete jackass and for the tone which I put across; but the sentiment remains.
Also, I have put forth an answer buried in my reply here; although it is a little verbose and requires you to do a little more leg-work to form your own opinion... which is what counts the most.
The answers you seek are on the very page you posted this in...

^ There you go.
If you want the latest Android experience (4.22), the best all around bet is probably the unofficial PAC-ROM + Wind kernel 1.7 or 1.8. Bluetooth works pretty well, I think the only bugs are the other common CM10.1 ones- 1080p recording crashes, hitting the power button while in the camera app crashes. If you don't care about bluetooth and just want speed and battery, check out JellyBAM- it is slightly less stable than PAC but it flies.
If you are ok with ICS (4.0X) then HO!NO!'s CM9, Liquid Nitro or HO!NO!'s V20f are solid.
But in the future, search around and do a lot of research before posting a question- on most forums it annoys the members to be answering the same questions repeatedly
OP no, just try for yourself....
