the thread to his rom was closed and was replaced by a forum rule page...? anyone? This rom is great!

Try looking at the forum rule it's linked to...
Still don't answer our question specially
There are no threads on why it was closed. anyone?
As with most threads that are locked/moved/deleted -- it was obviously in violation of XDA rules. I know for a fact that toastcfh doesn't just go around locking/closing threads for the hell of it. The man has a lot of other things going on.
I would like to know also. I mean, it was a great rom. I wake up, being the flashaholic that I am, to see if there is an update, and I got the Admin message. I thought I clicked on the wrong link! Went back, clicked again...what happened overnight? I read every page before and nothing seemed out of the ordinary. It would make more sense to at least mention what happened so that we don't HAVE to open another thread looking for answers. Also, by saying, in general what the problem was, it might prevent it from happening again. Just saying......

I suppose you could call me a little jaded, but that's just what I have to live with.
Question this morning is this......
A person browses the Rom threads (especially HTC update threads) or anything else that has a file somewhere in it, and you're bound to see countless posts that say nothing more then
downloading now
Why? Why do so many people post that they're "downloading now"?
That's like posting that I"m "breathing now" or "I'm typing now"
Wouldn't it make more sense (no pun intended) to download the damn thing, install whatever, then comment on something at that point?
What exactly is the point of telling the entire community that you're downloading a file? We know the file is there, we know in order for you to get the file, you have to download it, so what is the purpose?
Anxiously awaiting the learned people of this site to be able to enlighten me on this curious practice, so as I may wonder about something else
I don't know. After an initial post of a thread, I would want to know that people are at least responding. Also when someone comments it boosts the thread toward the front of the forum where it is seen by even more people, a la free advertising.

So basically, "I'm Downloading this" is the new "BUMP"
"i am gonna try this..downloading now"... you mean these kind?
Reading your post now. I'll reply in a minute.
Well lets say you developed a rom that you were proud of and put a lot of work into...
Would you rather see someone's excitement to download something you created or just a thread of silence?

Why should there be a thread of silence? Wouldn't you expect people to download the ROM and check it out and THEN post their comments? You've also got all the people asking questions before they download it too. If I developed a ROM, I know I wouldn't want my thread cluttered up with a bunch of people telling me they're downloading the file.. well duh I would want people to download the ROM and post back some constructive criticism, or some high praise, or a bug report, or some suggestions. Now THAT would make me feel good.
My question was why wouldn't a person download the file, install it and then report back with a comment?
A person can download a file in a few minutes, backup their data in say 10 mins, install the ROM (using a ROM in this case) and restore their data in 10 mins, play with it for 10 mins, THEN they can comment on the ROM.
Seems to me, it's a nothing but cluttering up the thread. If a person has a ROM, we KNOW you have to download the file if you want to check it out. Why tell us? Save your post for a 1/2 hour later after you've installed it and then tell us your comments or questions or issues.
I don't know about anyone else, but when I read a thread, I like to read informative information in it, not wade thru countless posts of I"m downloading the damn thing
You ever see a HTC update release thread... people in these are so foaming at the mouth, they go one step further... besides telling us they're DOWNLOADING the file, a few minutes later, we get the BREAKING NEWS that they are at 70% of the download.
People are going to post as they wish, my question was simply to find out if anyone had a valid reason for doing so, so that I may get my beauty sleep tonight
This is a bit of a satirical take on the question, so let's keep the comments light.
So far, we have these conspiracies for the "downloading now" posts ....
1. Do it to bump the post - highly unnecessary IMO - I'm a firm believer in threads standing on their own
2. A sign of interest - shouldn't everyone also post "I'm reading your thread" to let everyone know they're reading the thread too?
3.

Good one ! I like that Exactly my point.
Going to lunch now In my car Probably some kind of chicken Details later
Hat's off to the OP for the astute observation.
Along those lines; has anyone done a search for the string "downloading now"? Would be interesting to get a thread/forum count.

When i try to restore a rom my phone says "This does not seem to be a valid backup. The MD5 file is missing." Is there a way to fix this?
Please Help!!!!!!!!
Hi, you posted in Android Development, however it appears that you should have posted in Q&A. Also, more exclamation marks won't get you help any faster.
Cheers.

maybe if you posted in the right section you'd get an actual answer instead of getting flamed...posting here just makes people want to help you less...

Try charging your battery some and then restoring the nandroid.
In the future think twice about where you are posting.
Is this a question? Maybe it should go in the question forum? Cheers!

did you change the file name of the backup?????????????????????????????????????????????????
If your using rom manager try reflashing the recovery.
browse the SD card using your computer... find the backup file that you are trying to restore... rename it to something simple without any "-" and especially no slashes "\" or "/" ... reboot back into recovery.... no restore the newly renamed backup
oh ya and post in the right section... don't use exclamation points.... and of course my favorite: I could have answered or ignored... but i will post just to tell you you are a nugtard
Why is everyone bashing this guy? I'm sure he's panicky cuz he can't get his **** back proper, and probably not thinking quite straight.
And to OP, I couldn't say it better than 2 of the posters already said. Hope you get it sorted. And Jesus, people, give a guy a break.

I was panicky, drove into oncoming traffic and almost killed 30 people because I wasn't thinking straight and able to get my **** back proper.
We go through this everytime. Posted to wrong section, broke rules and didn't read. Stickies are there for a reason. It gets old, people don't care and post anyway.
I mod alerted the post before I posted to help avoid flame wars thinking a mod would come along and move it quick, and yet here it still sits. So apparently no one else cares that Q&A gets posted here.
So, instead of fighting the problem, it's easier anymore to just 'lulz' around in these threads and wait for the next one to be posted to repeat the process.
Then you might ask "why not just help?". For one, it just encourages more of this crap. Next, I read the OP. Any help given would be a shot in the dark and not worth the time or effort. Others have 'suggested' things but without more information from the OP, who seems to have vanished, we can't help anymore than playing 20 questions.

great points. the lack of research is a detriment to us all
So, I've been lurking around and starting to post, here.
I don't subscribe to any threads, but I should probably change that, because:
I CAN NOT FIND MY POSTS.
Where is the option to view my posts? I thought that was S.O.P. I checked FAQ, and didn't see the info.
Sorry I'm so darned stupid. I can find my posts through my hero cdma xda premium via profile, but that app seems to really drain the ol' battery.
I thank you in advance for your infinite kindness and wisdom.
Hi permazorch,
Firstly, welcome to XDA. You can typically view the threads/posts you have created in your public profile.
If you click on your username, you should be redirected to your user profile ... in case, this should be a direct link to it:

dang you really didnt know huh
No, u r not the biggest idiot.
I made my first post 5months after creating my account. All that time i made few unsuccessful attempts to create insane threads in the development section. Xda was my first online forum and now im glad that i joined it.
Things keep changing mate....
my first few days i was confused by the whole "no posting in development" thing because its xda-DEVELOPERS.com i thought every forum was developers, i came here off google and didnt know about the development SUB-sections.
it happens. theres bigger idiots around.!
under your profile is the easiest way
Forums can get hard to get used to, especially since all are different. Best thing to do when your lost, is what you did.....ask away, you may get some flamers, but ignore them, and someone will offer good advice.
I use the xda app only. We have the participated tab. It shows the threads you are part of with the most recent contributions. Is there nothing like that on the webpage?

As a bigtime noob still trying to figure this place out, I'm glad you asked the question.
Ok, awesome for the thanks feature. Thanks to that.
But, if we could also get a feature on the other end of that stick, that would be really great I think. A dislike, or thumbs down on posts that are just useless to the topic, then be able to set in your USERCP, any posts with -3 or more get auto minimized (clicking a + would open the post).
It seems more now a days than back in the day, there are more 'noob's on this site than ever. And they just cant seem to read. Or care to read. Or know how to read, the english language. So, they spam DEVELOPER threads, with 'does this woK?' 'eta on xxx' 'how to install this'....when, its ALL in the OP! Constantly, do I respond back with READ THE OP! Like they should be doing. + The stickies with tons of good guides in them.
So, I know the dislike/thumbs down wouldnt resolve this problem completely. But, it would help clear a huge thread (some with 1k+ posts) down so some of us that 'arent' noobs can go in and actually see comments relating to ROM, not the installation, or partition sizes (non-rom relation).
I understand, this could be abused. I really hope it wouldnt be. But, youtube uses a similar feature, like/dislike, and still use it. I am just throwing this out there, because a great thread (HERE if curious) is being BASHED with TONS of stupid questions. And damn, its very aggravating to see people not read, and im not even the dev...
Tried not making this a rant post. Just trying to see if there is 'some' solution to this 'on-going' problem (not JUST that thread, every thread has repeat questions). And maybe if people start seeing -10 on their posts or -50, they will know they are doing something wrong. Instead of me replying, wasting space I will hit the dislike instead .
Thanks for reading.

Should be in the About XDA-Developers section, and if you had read there it's already been suggested and a beta was implemented in a GNex thread. This isn't HD2 related though so I'm reporting this thread to be moved
Oh and yes, that thread is being completely messed up by noobs.
EDIT: Lol posted this before your edit
Yeah, I understand the logistics of a forum, just wierd xda posted it in the other page I had open I guess (had hd2 forum open in seperate tab). I really dont know what happened.
Anyway
Ok so looking back 3 pages I found this topic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1547887
I looked 2 pages, I guess shame on me for not looking further. But in anycase, it doesnt appear to be in the gnex threads anymore. So, just trying to get more support for them to bring it back I guess, hopefully in full scale. It would really help I think.
There was an experiment of this in the galaxy nexus forums... I believe it will now be improved based on what we found from that test
What happened to the "Search this thread" button? It was there last night, but gone today. Am I just not seeing it somewhere?
What's up with search?????
Me too.
I'm logged in, yet every forum page I go to does NOT have a search tool.
What's going on with these forums.
This happens all the time!!!!!
Yeah I'm also having this issue. At least now I can post stupid threads in the wrong places and no one can say to search before I ask dumb questions.
This site has been riddled with nothing but problems a lot of yesterday and so far today. Hopefully, the team will be able to get it sorted ASAP for us

What is going on with this site????
Search is absolutely essential to get anything done here.
Why does it keep going away???????
It's gone again..?
Perhaps it's in maintains mode?
Would be nice have some kind of notification/warning when such things happened.
yeah it's gone again coz i'm not seeing it :/
It's gone... And the n00bs are going to be even more dumb if they don't even have the option to search Help!
+1 I need search!
This is really annoying. Makes large threads hopeless to search...

It's already started!
I understand if the site is having a problem with the search function. Those kind of things happen. But if it's broken, then please put up some prominent stickies to let people know it's broken and what the status is!!!
Because, well, with the search function broken, we can't search the forum to find out if the search function is broken! See how that works?
Please bring this back!
FYI, I was using the 2010 theme and "Search this thread" disappeared. I just switched to the new beta theme, and now I can see a "Search this thread" function, but when I use it, I get a message that "search is temporarily not working". An error message is definitely an improvement over a disappearing function.
I really hate this too. If its broken mods could easily let all us know in the portal.
The google search function works but it **** hard.
I always get this error
vBulletin Message
Search is temporarily unavailable. We apologize for the inconvenience.
They must want everybody to stop using the pesky search function and just post new threads. Easier for everybody that way.
