Hiya,
I rooted my phone using unrEVOked 3 a few weeks ago, but one of my buttons has since broken. I want to send it in for repair, but having rooted my phone obviously voids my warranty.
I've seen a few unrooting guides around, but they all seem to want a goldcard to re-brand. Considering I didn't use a goldcard the first time, is this still the way to go.
unrEVOked haven't made an unroot tool for Desires, that I know of.
My network is '3' in the UK. The Hutchinson3G RUU on shipped-roms is the one.
I've heard some things from different friends:
1) Branding is contained in the radio, so it doesn't matter what you do
2) Just re-flashing the clockwork recovery will do it
3) I can do the RUU without a goldcard
4) I must do the RUU with a goldcard
Anyone know for sure?
Cheers
Just run the RUU to get back to stock if you're sure its the correct one.
No goldcard needed and it will remove root...

Hiya,
Thanks very much! Much appreciated

I have a Vodafone debranded desire, via goldcard. Does anyone have any ideas on how to revert to a Vodafone Rom, as I am pretty sure my battery lasted longer with that Rom.

What S/W you on at the moment? And what HBOOT?
S/w 2.10.405.2
Hboot 0.92
Radio is 5.09
Thanks

Follow this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768256
and then run this RUU to go back to stock:
http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_126338_signed.exe **
** assuming you have an AMOLED screen, if not then do the Vodafone OTA update when available...
Thanks, yes I have the AMOLED screen

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread.
I'm trying to do exactly the same as the op.
I followed this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768256
And have ended up with 1.21.405.2 (HBOOT 0.83.0001/Radio 4.08.00.09)
However, when trying this RUU:
RUU_Bravo_Vodafone_UK_1.19.161.5_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_126338_signed.exe
I get an error 140 - Bootloader version error.
Is this cos I'm trying to downgrade, or something? If anyone can advise I'd be appreciative.
Here's the newest Vodafone UK RUU (2.33.161.2):
http://www.multiupload.com/K0FR1OK301
That worked like a charm, many thanks indeed!!
Now that I'm back on a vodafone rom, do I need a goldcard still?
More to the point, will it cause any problems if I continue to use my existing SD card (which is set up as a goldcard)? This is probably a stupid question, but I've actually struggled to find a proper explanation of exactly what a goldcard is, and technically why it is needed
A Goldcard is used to bypass the CID check. Once your done with it you SHOULD format it to return it back to normal for everyday use.
OK, I'll do that then.
Many thanks
I don't think the gold card coding can be removed by formatting the card. A good explanation of gold cards can be found in the first post of this guide

Hi guys, got my Orange-branded uk desire a couple of days ago and have been reading up on rooting etc ever since.
In homage to my username, i'm following this to remove the carrier software:
(rootmydroid.cx.ux/) guides/general/howto-root-your-htc-desire-wildfire-evo-incredible-with-unrevoked/
I'm at step 3. My question is where can i find the most up-to-date official htc rom to flash onto my desire? I know a google search will give me loads of choices, but a lot are now months old and I'm keen not to flash an old version - im running 2.2 at the moment, but i basically just want an unbranded phone without the hassle of making a goldcard.
Is there one single file out there that i need? or will it consist of seperate rom and a radio files? Will the rom come as a .zip or .exe?
I know its a basic question, and once i've got the answer i'll leave you alone and follow the guide myself....just didnt want to flash with unrevoked, and not have a rom to reflash!
if it helps, these are my details:
bravo pvt4 ship s-on
hboot 0.93.0001
micro 051d
touch panel synt0101
radio 5.10.5.30
Thanks in advance!
Hi,
You will need a Goldcard if you're moving off an Orange rom even if you're going to stock HTC.
This is the first thing to do before going any further.
As for an upto date stock unbranded rom, see http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...9.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_151783_signed.exe
You will need to run this RUU on your PC while your phone is connected in fastboot mode.
Please be aware tho, that there isn't an Orange RUU available at the moment so going back to an Orange stock rom could be an issue.
Oh, and do a nand backup as soon as you have rooted.
Mike

Ah right, ok
I was under the impression that loading a rom via unevoked would effectively overwrite the rom i have now, meaning the carrier's applications would be removed in the process?
I guess a complete debrand isn't what I'm after - I don't mind if i still have the Orange logo on start-up (I don't want to unlock it from the Orange network either), as long as there are none of their applications like Orange Maps and Orange Photos when I'm actually using the phone.
Would i still need a goldcard for that? Or would i be able to follow the guide in the link in my first post, flashing the rom you suggested at stage 3?
Thanks in advance!
If you're going to go to a stock, unrooted, unbranded ROM then you won't be able to restore a nandroid backup as you need root!!
First thing, as said, is to make a gold card. Then use it to flash the 2.29.405.2 RUU. Then see how you get on as it is. If you still don't think it's doing what you need it to then root and go for a custom ROM
Right, ive created a goldcard using a guide on the unlockr.com
The website provides links to desire rooting tools 0.75 or 0.80 bootloaders, however mine is 0.93.0001. Can anyone offer any guidance please?
Thanks in advance!
http://unrevoked.com/recovery/
can i use that with a goldcard to just debrand then? thought that was only for rooting?

The stock rom (or pretty near to stock) you posted a while back eddy was good enough for his needs do you think?
I think Frankdroid did a variation in your thread of it with root and a2sd+. I was using it for a while and battery was good and the rom smooth enough.

Right...
If you just wanna debrand, as is get rid of the Orange crap, and not be rooted then all you need is a gold card and the RUU from my signature. This will give you a stock, unbranded HTC ROM
If you wanna root and go for a custom ROM, use unrEVOked
yea, i just wanna get rid of the Orange crap. I've made my goldcard, following a guide on theunlockr .com, but have come unstuck when it lists some downloads for certain bootloaders that would allow me to run the RUU, however my bootloader is a lot newer so i wasnt sure where i go from here, now that i've made my goldcard
I've downloaded the RUU, but when i run the .exe, is says its not a valid win32 application....?
Basically i've got a goldcard and the ruu. How do i now get it loaded on my phone?
Which RUU did you download? Latest unbranded one is the one in my signature. Ignore guides online as they've not been updated for months
ive got the ruu from your sig. Goldcard was made following an old guide on the web. Will this be ok?
just not sure where to go next in terms of actually getting the ruu on my phone with the goldcard
Gold card guide is fine. That RUU is also fine as it's my upload and is the one I use myself (using Windows 7 Ultimate x64). Don't know why your version of Windows won't run it - unless it's a corrupt download
yeah, weird. Using Win xp. I'll redownload the ruu in your sig. Once i've got it, what do i do? Turn on phone with power/vol down? Then what do i need to select? I'm guessing once im in the right section, i just connect phone to pc, and just run the ruu .exe?
Sorry, loads of basic q's, appreciate your help!
Turn phone on holding the back button and you'll be in FASTBOOT. Connect to the PC and once your Desire says FASTBOOT USB run the RUU
An error (-5001 : 0x80070002) has occured while running the setup.
Please make sure you have finished any previous setup and closed other applications. If the error still occures, please contact your vendor
Bugger! Any ideas?
It worked! Thanks a lot for your help EddyOS
np
Remember, though...you'll need your gold card for ALL future OTA updates if you're staying stock. You may as well make your day to day card your gold card to cut out the faffing about!

Appreciate your help
Hi everyone.
I just want to know if there is a way you can un-root the HTC Buzz (Wildfire)??
Because I know you void the phone's warranty if you root it; and I don't want to sit with a problem when my phone breaks and I can't repair it because of the phone being rooted...
I'm going to root my HTC wildfire using unrevoked V3.32
So I need to know if it is possible to unroot the phone before I root it with unrevoked.
PLEASE HELP!
Thanks!
If you will be rooting using Unrevoked, you can get back your original state, by simply running an RUU from the Shipped ROMs RUU Collection here:
http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=windows mobile&model=Buzz
Remember though, if you go for S-OFF'ing your Wildfire, there is no way yet to get back from it.
Although running an RUU in essence doesn't need a guide, you can take a look at the procedure here anyway:

Hi there,
I tried to root my orange-branded desire, and the root never really worked. Well, it gave me super user and I have clockworkmod but it's giving me assert failed errors when trying to nandroid backup/restore or flash a custom ROM (or even wipe!) so I can't really do anything. It is still running the orange-branded ROM.
So I'm not sure if I only got half root or what, it is S-ON and HBOOT 0.93 and is a newer SLCD one.
What should I do from here? I'm thinking maybe flash with an RUU (don't care if it is orange-branded or not) then try re-rooting without the orange bloatware.
Opinions? thanks.
If you wanted to run an RUU, this is the one I used for my orange-branded desire: http://shipped-roms.com/download.php?category=android&model=Bravo&file=RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed.exe.
If you do want to flash this, you must create a goldcard.
Also, if you de-brand an Orange phone, there's currently no way to reflash a stock Orange ROM. This COULD cause problems if you have to send your phone for repair at any point.
As for the original query, I'm not sure.. but I'm sure another member will be able to lend you a helping hand.
Why would I need a goldcard for a RUU? Also, does that RUU support SLCD models? thanks !"
Hey guys,
About 7 weeks ago, my simcardreader stopped functioning. Because my device was rooted, I unrooted it, and flashed the original RUU to be able to get it repaired. 3 weeks later I got my device back, only to discover that the simcardreader was still defective. Ok, back to the repair center.
Yesterday I received it again, and was glad that the cardreader was working again. Glad...untill I saw that they flashed a wrong rom, with only five languages: English, Spanish, French, Italian and German. As I live in Belgium, where we speak Dutch, I'd prefer to have a Dutch rom, but apparantly that can only be done in the repair center. But again three weeks without my desire hd, me no likey.
Rooting is apparantly out of the question, because I'm on rom 3.12.405, which seems to be very hard to root. So I started to look at the bootloader unlock mechanism. If I unlock it, would I be able to flash any RUU, i.e the original RUU I flashed before sending it to the repair center (1.32)? Do you guys see any other options?
Thank you!
Well if you could do that, you'd be able to root, wouldn't you? I didn't quite follow the scene lately with the latest software releases, but if your SW version is very difficult to root, I'm sure some dev already tried flashing older RUU, and most likely failed...
Can you flash an older when son? NO.
3.12.405 being difficult to root? NO.
just use the advance ace hack kit. Its as automated as it gets. Just make sure you read the manual

In the dev-thread i read everywhere that devices shipped with that version can't be hacked with the AAHK. However, I'm in doubt whether that applies to my device. Originally it shipped with Froyo, then I had it rooted, unrooted it to get it repaired. Then I got it back with 3.12.405. Does that mean it is shipped with Gingerbread?
Both stock Froyo and Gingerbread (pre Sense 3.0) supported
This kit should work fine on HTC Inspire and HTC Desire HD Software versions below 3.06.405.1 which require the radio/kernel downgrade before a root exploit is available.

Lol if you send it for repair 3rd time, you can get your money back before sending it away, at least that's how it works in Switzerland, not sure if it's the same policy throughout EU but you can try your luck and invest money into HTC One X or something...

That's old news. At one point it was true but attn1 was quick to remedy that by using the zergrush and taco root exploits. For those on sense 3.0 it is a little different as it has to downgrade you back to 2.50.405 then you rerun the kit and gain soff and root

Thank you for your answers. I'll try it tomorrow.
I think the hack kit just bricked my phone. Can't even get in bootloader anymore Read the manual five times through before I started.
I was on 3.12.405. During the downgrade process, my bootloader froze, waited for hours, but battery died. New battery, phone doesn't boot
Update:
without sd-card, I can get into bootloader and use navigation. With sd-card, bootloader just freezes. Can't get into recovery, because it freezes at the red exclamation mark.
I suppose you have a PD98IMG on your SD card?
Check if any PD98IMG is in sd card as said above, and delete it.
If it doesn't reboot, you can run the 3.12.405.1 RUU from Hboot. Later you can try the hack kit again.
By the way are you S-ON or S-OFF? and what is your Hboot now?
Try getting a goldcard made.
1. Put ur SD-C in another rooted phone to get ur cards ID.
2. Create the gold card on pc
3 insert it in phone and reflash ur rom in it.
this worked for me after i updated to 3.x and tried to root with AAHK.
