Looking for an app that would dim and lock my phone when I put it in my pocket; blackberry style. It sounds a bit ridiculous, but having to hit the power button after every call to make sure it locks out is getting a bit tedious... Any suggestions.

That will work! Of course if you use your phone for ANYTHING besides simply making a call it'll get old real quick. Seriously though, I found a dozen different apps that are power button replacements and proximity sensor offs... there's also a lot of different Widgets that put a "screen off" button on your screen so you don't have to reach for the power button every time. I use a power off widget on my bigger phones to make it quicker to kill the screen... wow, I just realized how sad and spoiled we are! Do you guys remember Windows 98???

Thanks to everyone who responded, you've all been a great help. Now as far as proximity sensor apps go, are there any that stand out as being the best?

just try them, no one is going to hand feed you.
LOL
@ hand feed!
You can also check out screen off and lock. That's what I'm currently using, once you set it up you can just place a widget on your home screen, tap the icon and "done", you can also add a touch of old tv style to it
Is there any way I can have an alarm that wakes me up, but not the rest of the household up?
Thanks

Set the volume of the alarm lower ? Settings>Sound>Volume
Turn your alarm volume down?
Yeah, but then I fear it wouldn't wake ME up lol

Set to vibrate only and put it under your pillow

Do you think that would work? Might try it actually, what about using headphones? Lol
Sent from my R800i using XDA
Hearing something vibrate under your pillow will surely freak the hell out of you, so you should be ok.
Wouldn't recommend headphones, fell asleep once with them in, hurt like hell taking them out in the morning. Was like they fused into my ear!

I've accidentally left my phone on all the way across the room. Got a text, it vibrated, and it startled me awake. I guess that's probably because I'm a light sleeper though
Thanks

Set it to vibrate, put it down the front of the PJs and you'll get a happy ending wakeup in the morning!

the solution is quite easy:
get another alarm app (e.g. alram clock extreme -> free on getjar)
And use the increasing volume function.
Meaning: your devices alarm will start at low volume and will get louder the longer u ignore it.
So u can quickly disable it if u are awake already (and keeping your household asleep) and still be sure that it will wake u when it comes to full volume late (oh here all are awkae again).
But imho the best solution and also sparing your nerves a bit since you dont get harrassed out of sleep at full volume
Hi. I recently buy a tmobile s2 and was in 2.3.5 for about a week. As i set my alarm to wake up at 7.20 evry time alarm start it rings and says alarm its seven tweenty every morning.
But now i update to 2.3.6 via samsung kies and it does not speak anymore. I try everything but its not in settings or as a option. Its not a big problem but it help me in morning to realise that im late. Thanks and im very new to s2 so sorry for any long explain.

Have you checked to make sure you didn't turn the alarm volume off? It's that a lot of times. Also leave the phone on. A lot of people think their phone will turn on to sound the alarm and turn them off at night to save battery.

I love Tasker. And i mean love tasker!!! I would like to start a discussion on these setups and cool things to do with Tasker. More people need to buy it!!!!!!!
My personal favorite Profile is one i have setup for a received text with "gpson" in the message. It enables gps and starts polling where the device is going and replies with coordinates every 3 minutes to sender of last text. I use this just in case my phone gets lost or stolen. I keep it pretty stealth as well. It turns off all systems volume to make sure the robber wont hear it. Once again, i Love Tasker and please share your opinions. Post questions, anyone would be happy to help

That is exactly what I would do.
Create Profile>Event>UI> Notification>(pick kik app)
After that add the task you mentioned about turning screen on through secure settings to the profile . That should work assuming a notification is received when a kik message is received
(TASKER MUST BE ENABLED AT ACCESSIBILITY SETTINGS)
Just tested this with messaging app and it worked perfectly. Leave "Title' blank when choosing app/apps

Sweet, I'm glad it worked. That was my first foray into the world of Tasker.
Back to the original thread topic: What are some things that you think people might want to see come from Tasker?
One of my biggest blocks in using it effectively is that I don't even know where to begin. I could set it up to automatically turn on wifi when I get home, but it's really not that big of a deal for me to just hit a toggle on the notification panel (same thing with using NFC tags, for me at least). I do like the lost phone texting option, but I haven't lost a phone (or gotten it stolen) in the last 10+ years of having a cell phone.
Maybe I'm just simple in my needs/wants from a cell phone, but I just don't know what type of Tasker automation I'd use regularly. Any suggestions?

Its rare that phones get stolen from geeks like us but I just have it just in case one of my buddies pull a trick or something. Its good to have just in case. However, misplacing it happens quite often for me at least. So I created a profile to listen for "ringplease" and it turns on the screen and unlocks it, then turns media volume all the way up and plays a song of my choice (No Worries by Lil Wayne) lol
Very very simple, but effective for me at least

That's a good idea, I typically leave my phone on silent (don't want it ringing loudly while at work). When the phone is between the couch cushions, I can't just ring it and listen for it. If I have a text code I can send, I can have it turn the volume all the way up and blast "call me maybe" (as a joke, of course). I just can't give that code to my friends, or else they'll send me that code when I'm in a meeting at work, haha.

Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
I think a lot more people would use tasker if the xml files were made more centralized and available for the general user. I myself was struggling, but have it doing a few nifty things.
1) turn on wifi when near my local (home) cell tower.
2) disable wifi when no connection established for 20 seconds
3) enable screen rotate in certain apps (since I like mine in portrait normally).
4) enable bluetooth when docked in the car and disable after disconnecting
5) turn off all sound when sitting on my qi charger
6) allow calls from certain people even in silent mode (ie emergency calls from family)
7) play unique ringtone for people not in my contact list
Haha, I just use Where's My Droid, it has the built-in ringing functionality where you can text it a codeword if you misplace it / lose it, and its also great for when you ACTUALLY lose it lol

The app is so understated in this thread! This app is seriously gorgeous. The UI makes me so happy and what's great is you can set different themes for each section of the app ie: alarm, clock, timer/stop watch.
DID I MENTION CLOUD SYNCHING?! yeah if you have multiple devices the notifications, alarms, and themes all sync across devices. Hit snooze on your phone your tablet goes on snooze as well. Kill the alarm from your tablet and the phone does the same thing. Set an alarm on one and it gets automatically pushed to the other device.
The alarm options have different things you can do to turn the alarm off such as shake, puzzle solving, or pattern tracing, and math (I personally hate doing math in the morning) although those features, along with the theming and syncing options are premium, at the moment everything is unlockable by referring friends to the app or with an in app purchase. I pulled the trigger and spent the 2 dollars.
This app has replaced default clock app and imo is the beat clock app out there atm.

One problem, it sucks as an alarm! It woke me up half an hour early today. 4:00 a.m. vs 4:30 a.m. is a big freaking difference. I did another test and again it went off half an hour early. I also had the ramp up set for only 5 seconds, but it was almost a minute before I could hear anything. It's beautiful, but &$#@ed up.

One hell of a nice alarm.
I shared it on Google+ last night and within ten hours I had thirty referrals and got all the paid features unlocked for free. Very smart way of advertising if you ask me.
Works across both devices very well and has dashclock and daydream support. I never thought I'd replace alarm clock xtreme so quickly but I have.
Go give it a try.
Even works on x86.
couldnt it be made such that it replaces the inbuit clock app??
Apparently own custom sounds aren't possible?
Nice looking and easy to use though.
