red light means extremely low batt.....guess your battery is faulty
i got the same thing.
and no it's not the battery.
it's the charging circuit on the main hardware isn't working.
open your phone and check the five small wires that they connect the mini usb to the main mother board, one of them must be cut.

so, is there a solution to this? or there really is nothing more for the device but the trash bin or for spare parts?
Have you tried this?

If you already replaced the battery and nothing, and you want to get rid of dear Uni place it for sell in parts on marketplace, a lot of people will go for it!

I had exactly the same thing with my old battery, after my try to discharge it with a lil electro-motor. then i found a post of a guy with the same thing, who fixed it-by "zapping" the UNI battery with a 9V battery, connecting + to + and - to -,for a few second. I tried it without thinking twice. It worked for me. Dunno how and why,but it did. I use the battery again, normal. But beware,it is dangerous to play with this type of battery,it can explode. Do a search on this subject and you will see
I agree with keeping_sg
how long have you left your uni on the charger?
just plug it in and leave it on the charger all night and see what happens.
I bought yesterday a 4800mAh battery from Hong Kong... 10 euros included shipping + FREE black back cover
Good battery life but still prefer to carry 2 original sized batts rather than get that big one, making even bigger our Uni

So I got a flashing orange light on my EVO tonight when I plugged it in to charge, phone was dead, wouldn't turn on, dead battery. That's one reason you get a flashing orange light, a completely dead battery, just plug it in and let it sit for a bit and it will get a solid orange light. I advise waiting 20min or so then turning it on.
Side note, car chargers don't always have the power so you can use your phone while it's charging when the battery is really low, had it plugged it and was using it for an hour + and it still died

There are car chargers you can get that will charge the same as your wall charger. Read it and see if it says 1000mA.. There are also adapters that plug into 2 usb ports at 500mA equaling 1000 when charging your phone. Most car usb port chargers have 2 slots or more so its possible. You can also use the adapter method on your computer to receive the full 1000mA charge.
I'm using my palm pre car charger (original). I was streaming Pandora n checking my Facebook and it charged till it was full (green light n all)

Mine charger works for my car, but my moms has a usb port built into the car and that's the one that wouldn't keep my phone alive.

My EVO Shift completely discharged and when I plugged it in to recharge it, I got the same problem - amber light would flash 3 or 4 times then stop, it would not charge and not turn on. I removed the battery for 10min. With the battery removed I plugged in the USB cable into the computer and phone, pressed the power button, unplugged the USB, pressed the power button again, replaced the battery, plugged in the USB and the amber light went solid and appears to be charging now.
BTW, I'm posting this because the OP's solution of plugging "it in and let it sit for a bit" didn't work, it was plugged into the wall adapter all night and didn't charge. I could only get it to do so using the steps above. cheers.
If you happen to be near a Sprint store and the "let it charge for about 20 minutes until solid orange" didn't work, take your battery to them. They can boost it on their battery machine. I see a lot of customers just for this very reason.

I've had my EVO for just a few days and I got the abrupt shut down followed by flashing amber light also. The phone was charging off the usb of my laptop at the time. When i unplugged the phone the light turned off and the phone would not turn on. I thought I fried it because I did not know what flashing amber meant. What was strange about it was that not only did I not receive the usual "battery is nearing 15%, please plug in" notification but the phone powered off when I was reading an article about things to do to prolong battery life. Anyway, I proceeded to charge the phone from an outlet and now things seem to be fine.
I am having a similar problem with my HTC Incredible 2 on verizon. Last night it was charging just fine, and when I woke up this morning it was off and it won't turn on or do anything. I can plug it in and if I hold the battery it will flash the orange light a few times but it always stops. I've tried the fixes in this thread and nothing...what can I do?
It was still almost half way charged when I feel asleep last night so the battery wouldn't have run down. The only thing I'm worried about is if the charger did something to the battery but it seems unlikely as its a charger I've used often.

When the amber light is blinking, it basically means charging, but there is not enough turn on voltage to power on the device. If you were previously charging it > remove the battery for 5 minutes > replace it > charge the device on a WALL outlet, NOT a usb charging, i.e. computer, tv, xbox, etc. You should be good to go after that.
Well, when I plug it on a wall outlet and always this switching amber LED...
The fact is that this charger is working well with my other phone (HTC Sensation)
I'll try another charger if I found it !
Hello
This happens on my HTC HD2 when it's on the car mount and used as a GPS, and when there's too much sun hitting the device!
I know I should put the device in the shade, but for that, I'd have to buy a new car mount system, annoying...
In my case of desire sv which suddenly died and was "amber blinking", I had to just push the battery a little bit for it to start working again. Until that point of physical battery adjustment, I tried many options for the "amber blink" to go away.
Thank God, the phone is alive. Apparently, as I understand, the amber blink is to indicate that the battery is not present - perhaps. :on't Know::
Hi,
last night my Desire ran out of juice, and when i woke up it was empty.
So this morning i turned it on, entered my PIN and immediatly plugged it.
When i came back later, it was not running anymore. The LED isn't green as usual, and i can't turn it on.
It charges for several hours now, and nothing happen. I tried pulling of the battery, nothing at all.
I'm running Oxygen 2.0 RC7 (Android 2.3.2) for weeks without any problems.
tl;dr : phone not charging, no led at all. plz help.
Thx in advance for your answers !
EDIT : the phone rebooted without SIM and SD cards. Weird.
I just faced the same problem. I woke up to see the battery was compelety drained and the phone was off. I plug in the charger but the led doesn't turn on. How did you resolve this? How did you manage to reboot the device?
In my case, the phone was on with the charger plugged in but battery icon is red and empty. I reboot and clear battery stat in clockworkmod, reboot and all's well again...
Resolved
Well, in my case I had drained the battery completely. The phone neither would turn on nor would charge after the battery was drained overnight. I checked that there was about 3V in all cells of the battery.
In such case, pull out the battery and plug in your charger and you can see the led flash in all colors. This will make sure that the problem is with the drained battery and not the phone. Leave the charger plugged in for about 10-15 mins without the battery. Then put the battery back on and charge your phone, it should start charging and you will be able to see the red led. Now, let it charge till till your battery is fully charged.
i also have the problem that the phone want charge
when i insert the charger (with removed battery) sometimes the led starts flashing and sometimes it does not
at the first time i tried your method and waited for about 10 minutes
at next i inserted the battery but the phone didnt start to charge and now the led want start flashing when i connect it to the charger
ME Too1!!!!

Any solutions to cp6ija's problem?
This morning had same problem myself. HTC Desire plugged into mains charger overnight, but this morning discovered hadn't actually been charging and battery low although phone working. Now battery drained and cant get charging led to flash whether plugged into mains charger or PC via USB. Tried different USB leads and temporary battery removal as well as charging withour batter. LED resolutely dead
As per sod's law, phone out of warranty a few months back.
Help!
Hi all,
So I've had my Desire HD since launch and it's been doing me great! However last night I plugged it in for it's routinely charge and wake up this morning and it is dead.
Here is the thing,
I know the USB charge is loose and needs to fiddle with it before it charges sometimes (phone sleeps on the bed next to me so could have knocked it in my sleep stopping it from charging)
The phone was working this morning at around 9am, because my alarm goes off then, but I turned off my alarm and went back to sleep and woke up later to a unresponsive phone
The phone is not using the HTC charger, just a USB cable that is plugged into a USB wall outlet adapter. The phone picks this up as a USB charger rather than a A/C charger (which I know means a slower charge)
So after all this, is there a way to see if my phone is genuinely dead or if the battery is just completely flat?
When you plug it into the charger the LED should come on; orange if the battery is below 90% and green if the battery is 90% or above.
Does this happen when you try to charge your phone? If it does leave it that way in a place where the phone or cable can't get bumped or moved and let it charge for a few hours and see if the LED changes to green.

So I do not get any LED lights coming up on the charge indicator at all. I've left it for a few days now plugged in trying different chargers as well.
I would assume in this case, the phone is dead?
Maybe try a different cable/charger
Sent from my HTC One X
Or maybe check if you placed your battery with the metal contacts together and not the other way. Or try a new battery. Could be a faulty battery too

Hey guys, I recently had a problem with my screen turning on and off on it's own but finally it stopped. But now I'm having even worse problems.
Basically what is happening is that my phone won't charge. Last night it was at 60% and I put it in the charger. I woke up in the middle of the night and I checked my phone and it was fully charged, so I went back to bed. When I woke up in the morning to take my phone it was only at 49%, so I plugged it back in and it charged to 54% before I had to go. I barely used to phone all day to conserve on power since I didn't really have much left. So, it's at 40% battery when I get back home and I plug it into to charge. I left it for an hour or two and went to go check on it. It didn't charge at all. In fact all the stats were saying that it was discharging. So I unplugged it from the back side (where the charger is in the wall) and the lightning bolt was still in the top corner. I freaked out and unplugged it from the usb port and it stopped, when I plugged it back into the usb (without power from the power outlet) it showed that it was still charging which was really weird. I tried everything such as taking out the battery and putting back in. I even tried to use a different usb cable to charge it with no success. But still everything says it's discharging.
I have no idea what to do? Could this a sign that the battery is failing, should I buy a new one? Does anybody have any idea of what might be happening? I've been looking everywhere but I haven't found any solutions
It's probably input voltage dropping caused by USB cable. Try another cable and see.
Well the problem stopped for a few days but now it back again, I plug it in to charge and it just doesn't charge, it recognizes that it's plugged in but it just won't charge.
I'm now attempting to charge it with a different cable again to see if it works. If it doesn't could this be a sign of a battery issue? Because if it is I can buy one tomorrow.
I'm starting to think it might be the charging point, hypothetically if I were to send it to Samsung for repairs, how much would they charge for replacing the charging port. Or would it easier to replace it myself if I were to buy one off ebay? How difficult is it to replace the charging port?
