[Q] HTC BEE No root? - Wildfire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Spent almost 6 hours yesterday trying to figure out how to root the htc wilfire (Bee), but was unable to because alltel out dumbed me by branding their phone. Any known workarounds?

Super one click 1.5.5 seems to give a root. I havent been able to get a recovery flashed yet though.

Bee = Buzz / Wildfire for Verizon
http://news.softpedia.com/news/HTC-Bee-En-Route-to-Verizon-Leaked-ROM-Emerges-160263.shtml

I have the HTC Bee(Wildfire) for Bluegrass Cellular. When trying unrevoked it says device "bee" not supported. I did use super one click and got it to root and install superuser. I mainly want root for wifi tether which seems to work, but I would like to install custom roms like I do on my Evo (Evo is personal phone, Wildfire is work phone). The Clockwork mod says it flashed, but when rebooting into recovery its the standard useless recovery. I also tried to install a VPN app requiring root and it says Busybox missing, root access denied even though when it prompted for superuser access I hit allow. So I think Super One Click is semi rooting the devices but not completely. I tried to unroot and it hangs on Removing Superuser.apk. I want to start fresh with it and do the Shell Root instead of the other root via S.O.C. Anyone else had any luck with the "Bee" Wildfires?

From here:

Some devices have a NAND lock. SuperOneClick will only give a Shell root until you remove this lock.
The following phones can use http://unrevoked.com to remove this lock:
* Sprint EVO 4G (HTC Supersonic)
* Droid Incredible (HTC Incredible)
* HTC Desire GSM
* HTC Desire CDMA (HTC BravoC)
* HTC Aria
* Droid Eris (HTC DesireC)
* HTC Wildfire (HTC Buzz)

It appears as though this NAND lock also applies to the Alltel HTC Wildfire (HTC Bee) . Unfortunately, unrevoked does not yet run on the Bee.

Get me a rom update utility. I can get us a permanant root. I'm just slightly scared of not being able to boot my phone, and would like a way to reverse it. Current version is 1.07.671.2.
Thanks!

I was able to root my htc wildfire "bee" phone from alltel using the z4 root by ryanza. Seems to be the only rooting that works. Ive been unable to find any custom roms for it though, or if theres any roms that work for it at all.

Hey man can u send me the rru of ur bee somehow i think o got an idea.. and if i do reach my goal ill show the way how ive done it..

I unable to root my "BEE" with unrevoked. How did you do it? Any RUU available for the Bee? Thank you so much!

you could try to see if htcdev supports the bee, if it does then you would be able to permroot, recovery, roms the lot

I'm not really sure he could get a recovery and ROMs, since you can't use buzz stuff on the bee.

[Q] Get it started

I know that i sound like a broken record but bare with me for a bit.
to get froyo up and running on my device do i first root my device using that one click website(cant find the link anymore, does anyone know the link?) and then download whatever rom and compatible radio and just install it on my desire?
do i need to first make my htc desire unlocked/sim free? my htc desire is sim locked to t mobile.
thanks in advance
any suggestions? thanks
IF you want to go to the official FroYo 2.2 ROM you just need to make a goldcard and flash the official RUU file
IF, however, you wanna go down the custom route then you'd be best using unrEVOked as it roots your phone in one go (was extremely easy actually)
ok nice one. i dont need a unlocked desire thoughh innit?

[Q]How to root my HTC Desire Froyo 2.2?

Hi, I have a HTC Desire Froyo 2.2 with a HBOOT of 0.920001.
I've tried to see how to root my phone without having to downgrade the android system to 2.1.
I've seen some forums talking about the unrevoked3 that is capable of rooting my phone 2.2 without doing pretty much anything. :3
But in order to root my phone do I have do anything first like backup my software and other things like photos or videos?
How can I root my phone with the file reflash?
Explain to me as if I was pretty ignorant, please.
Use unrevoked 3.2, it will give you root without any data loss.

Do you still need a goldcard for this or can you use it straight away in stock froyo using hboot 0.92?
My phone is t-mobile but their logo doesn't appear on boot up, just the HTC one.
So I dont have to do any sort of backup on my phone if I use unrevoked3 right?
Just to be clear...I only need to plug in my phone and run the unrevoked?
And last thing...it says that I need to be certain that HTC SYNC isn't installed in my pc...why?
Don't know, just remove it and once you're rooted add it again...
As for backup, no you don't but it's best to have the stock RUU to hand incase you ever need to return the phone
you need to remove HTC Sync and install the modified drivers privided by Unrevoked team inside reflash zip(it's a link that says hboot drivers).

1) Connect the phone, run unrevoked, you're rooted
2) You need to remove HTC Sync, because it might want to access your device at the same time with unrevoked

i think they are just covering their asses to make sure you incur no additional problems. they just want to weed out anything that might cause a bump in the road. and therefore, avoid the influx of user emails stating "while i was doing something, windows open htc sync and made my boot screen the theme song to M*A*S*H and when it finally boots up, it's the XBOX game "Me and My Pony 2".

Is it a SLCD desire.?
when flashing did u use the custom file in unrevoked and added the clock work recovery file.?
and did u use rom manager for flashing custom roms.?
pls help
I have the led sreen Desire but it also works for the SLCD.
Just install the unrevoked drivers, download the software and open it.
Just that simple.
As for installing custom roms I use Rom manager and titanium backup for backing up my apps.
After you root your phone download rom manager and backup your current rom before installing a new one.
so should I use the nandriod backup before I root? Can take away the root by just resoter from the backup?
Is unrevoked also install some new recovery image ? Or it just give root access ?

Unrevoked is a rooting process. It just adds a recovery ROM to your device and gives you Superuser access. If you put it on Froyo, you get Froyo, put it on Eclair, you get a rooted Eclair etc..
Once you root with unrevoked, you can backup immediately and restore to that point of time anytime.
If you put a Froyo ROM after rooting, you get a rooted Froyo..

[Q] DHD rooted using Unrevoked3

I have rooted my DHD using unrevoked3. I have super user permissions app, and clockwork mod recovery. Then I read that you can't install a custom rom without S-OFF. Do I still need to do the Visionary+ w/DHD eng script?
I thought my DHD still had S-ON but now I don't think I could have clockwork without it being off.... I'm confused.
Anyways I did go ahead and attempt the Visionary+, but perm root doesn't seem to do anything. I could probably skip that step I guess. The DHD script complains about busybox not being installed which is probably done during the perm root of visionary. I then installed Titanium Backup and did the check errors function and installed busybox. It said it installed, but terminal emulator still complains about busybox.
Confused. Can anyone help me?

btw if you have rooted using unrevoked and have clockwork mod installed, you dont need to s-off to flash a rom, you already have write acess to the nand in recovery
How did you do that using unrevoked on DHD?
or you remove nandlock only with unrevoked and root with visonary ?
Something isn't right here. It isn't possible to root dhd with unrevoked

Someone Swyped my idea.
Further information on Unrevoked & DHD
I seem to be having the same problem as the OP.
A bit of background: I just upgraded from my HTC Hero, and had some experience of rooting and installing custom ROMS on that device. My first job when I got my new HTC Desire HD was to get it rooted so I could get all Orange's crap off of it and have a streamlined new phone.
However, in my haste, I used Unrevoked, failing to notice the difference between a bog-standard HTC Desire and the newer HTC Desire HD. The upshot: Unrevoked *did* succeed in rooting my phone and installing ClockworkMod Recovery, but now the recovery partition thinks it's an old-fashioned HTC Desire and so won't install DHD ROMS. I can install bog-standard Desire ROMS to my heart's content.
So, I'm in a bit of a mess. I want to install a DHD ROM on my DHD, but I can't. Also, now that I've already gone through one rooting process, the standard procedure doesn't work, so I'm at a bit of a loss as to how to proceed. Any advice would be appreciated. Should I:
- try to get the phone back to its unrooted condition as it was when it came out of the box (in which case how do I do that?)
- flash a different recovery partition in the hopes that I can get it to recognise that my phone's a DHD and not an old standard Desire?
- fiddle about with the ROMs to get them to bypass the device checks (in which case how do I do that?)
Any other suggestions, let me know. It's possible I may have stumbled on a new method for rooting a DHD...
To fix it, just flash 1.32.405.6 RUU.
But I have to say, that is not possible
Desire ROMs on DHD, without S-OFF, everything is just simply wrong. Are you even sure that you have a Desire HD? Please send me a picture of your Desire HD running some Desire ROM.
oops
OK, it appears that there's a much simpler solution. Orange appear to have sent me the wrong phone.
Sigh...
Hahhahhah, good job Orange
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
ok, so to Orange's credit, I've sent back the wrong phone, and they've sent me the right one, next day delivery, having knocked 40% off the original price. Looking forward to playing with it this evening - I won't be touching Unrevoked with a barge-pole!
thanks @jkoljo for alerting me to the possibility that I might have been sent the wrong thing!
we get there in the end...
Very nice, good luck with your new phone

It'll work, but it will also flash the G2-specific engineering HBOOT as opposed to the Desire Z one. Not sure there will be any adverse effects, but in case you weren't aware, the Desire Z does have slightly different partitioning than the G2.
Hi everyone... i was using strawmetal's downgrade pdf guide and successfully managed to downgrade my htc desire z to froyo(earlier it was gingerbread)
it also shows hows to permanently root the htc desire z.. i followed the guide to the point and after checking the md5-3 matches md5-2.... i typed in # reboot
now instead of enjoying my freshly rooted htc desire z ... am stuck at the welcome screen...the white with the green htc...
i ve seen the forum n yes there are xplainations of how to go about saving ur phone...
my query is a lil different ...
see , we did everything correctly ..so am sure we shud be able to start the phone with out losing the permanent root and all the other hardwork... i also installed the recovery clockwork ....
somebody show me the way .....
try flashing rom of choice from recovery
First off, Visionary is known to fail frequently which is why it is not recommended to use.
That aside, try flashing a new recovery via fastboot as some versions of CWM are known to hang on the HTC screen.

New to rooting HTC Desire

So, I told my friend I'd help him root his HTC Desire. Thing is, when he first got it, which was apparently shortly after it came out, he had it rooted. The guys said, however, that it was a partial root. I don't know what that means. Also, he has the super user app, but no recovery installed. Also, I've looked over the guide for rooting the phone and getting S-OFF. (I have an EVO 3D) It's so different from my phone that I am not sure what bootloader version this phone has.
I know that it is locked, KINGDOM PUT SHIP S-ON, HBOOT 1.22.0000. If there is any help, I'd appreciate it. I'd be alright if it weren't rooted at all, but since it's partially rooted, I'm not sure.

HTC Kingdom is the codename for HTC Evo Design 4G or HTC Hero S
(HTC Bravo is the codename for HTC Desire)
so root methods in this forum won't be of much help.
i'm not sure what your aim is:
- rooted phone? if you have superuser app it's likely that you're already rooted. try running an app that requires superuser permissions e.g. titanium backup
- custom rom? then you will need custom recovery, i couldn't find the xda forum for evo design 4g, so try google for a guide on how to install one for that phone.

Ahh, my friend wasn't sure which phone he got. I couldn't find a design forum here either. Also, yeah, he said it was a partial root (not sure what that means) and as for the custom recovery, he doesn't have one, which you usually get one when you root the phone (CWM Revolutionary usually). Thanks for the info, I'll check out google when I get home.
I think by partial root here might mean that the phone is not s-off yet

Could he mean temporary root? (root is lost after reboot)
Because there you have a superuser app but no recovery...
You could try using apps that require root and check if root is gone...
There's an easy way to root/s-off on my guide.
But is it for HTC design?

@Panface, don't know why there aren't relevant forums, possibly not a popular device among developers? If Google can't find the answers don't know what else to suggest, all I know is rooting methods for each phone should be treated uniquely, and we can't help you much here unfortunately
