I have really, really annoying problem, or two in fact, but they're probably related, in the People / contact app.
It doesn't remember all my settings.
For unknown reasons, it forgets my settings on many contacts, but not all.
If I open one contact, and change it to show it's name as the one reported from Facebook, it's fine for a while, but then without any warning, it just changes back to what's stored straight on the Phone.
No matter how many times I try setting it back to showing it as the one reported by Facebook as it's name, it just reverts back sooner or later (within couple minutes, though)
It never forgets the sync/link with Facebook though, the updates the statuses fine, the photos appear normally etc
And then the other, I originally had just Phone contacts enable, but I decided to save myself some time and just use Facebook contacts as addition, instead of manually entering them first to my phone and then linking.
So, I opened up People, clicked menu > view, and ticked "Only contacts with phone number" and "Facebook" in addition to already ticked Phone, and then Done.
Boom, the facebook contacts who have their phonenumber there are listed!
But just like with the issue above, couple minutes, and they're gone.
If I go back to People > Menu > View, the Only people with phone numbers and Phone are still ticked, but Facebook isn't.
And yes, I do have all the sync options enabled in Accounts & Sync settings for Facebook for HTC Sense (and even though I've added the "just" Facebook, too, it doesn't appear in the accounts list separately)
--
Then another, probably not related issue.
In people, if I go to Facebook directory, it only shows 205 contacts total, while in reality it should show 207 contacts.
I know for a fact that at least one of the missing contacts used to be there, and still is on my "normal facebook"
I had somehow gotten 2 contacts mixed into 1, with 2 numbers, 2 facebook links etc, after trashing that and re-creating the 2 as separate contacts, only one of them could be found from Facebook directory, while the other couldn't.
I've tried uninstalling Facebook updates (it doesn't allow uninstalling the whole thing), removing all the data & cache files etc, same for Facebook for HTC Sense, and even removed the account(s) alltogether from my phone, with no luck.
After re-creating the account, getting all the updates etc, it still doesn't show the 2 missing contacts (which of at least 1 was definately there in the beginning)

Any suggestions how to fix these issues?
Is there any other way than removing all possible backups from SD and doing "hard reset" on the phone?
try running the friend stream app, friends tab, menu, options, update
I did a hard reset of the phone tonight, and even after that, I'm missing 2 contacts from the facebook list
Now I also know which 2 are now missing, and I know that one of them wasn't missing just before hard reset, and that his contact information (which I backed up on my comp) has the HTC-made link for Facebook in it, but it's not showing up on the phone, probably due the fact that the phone thinks such facebook profile ID isn't my friend.
After the reset, the phone seems to remember the other settings, though.
Hey I've got the exactly same issue with one of my Facebook friend's not being recognised as a friend. I have her on my normal Facebook, but not via the phone so can't select her to add and sync profile Joe details. It is so annoying. I've tried everything apart from hard reset, but no joy.

Well, via hard reset I apparently got one friend that was missing back, lost another and one that was missing is still missing
edit:
Scratch that, it doesn't remember the settings anymore, don't know why, now it resets to showing only contacts with phone numbers, exchange and phone. It clears Facebook tick by itself, and adds exchange tick by itself.
bump for solution?
I have the same issue. I can actually see the contact in the facebook app. However, it is not there when I try to link my people contact with the facebook contact. It simply isn't displayed...! Annoying!!
Ha! Actually I have similar problem as you but it happened with Gmail contact and Exchange contact.
I prefer the contact to display my Exchange contact name, since it's a real name I input, then link the person with Gmail contact. However, after sync with Gmail contact, the Desire contact always forget my setting and display people by Gmail name.
It seems the Desire contact has a rule that favor Gmail name >Exchange name>Facebook name
The only way for me to resolve this is once all Gmail contact are sync, I disabled Gmail contact sync. (Gmail sync for mail is okay to keep) without Gmail contact sync, no more name setting lost issue.
Hope this helps!

Have the same problem, htc facebook shows 4 friend less than facebook web... and something curious, when i enter flickr app and the missing contacts are here!
Using DJ droid, wiped lots of times losed friends keep losed, but only in htc contacts, flickr app show all
I am pretty sure that it is your friends' Facebook settings that are blocking them from appearing in the HTC Sense contact list. My wife just disappeared a few weeks ago, and she confirmed that she had recently updated her Facebook profile to block 3rd party apps from accessing her contact information. This makes sense, as she was there one day, and disappeared the next. My guess is that this will start to happen more and more as people begin to lock down their Facebook accounts for security reasons.
Finally i knew how to solve this...
Actually WE knew it, me and my wife went crazy because suddenly out of no where she is no longer appearing in my HTC Desire (facebook for HTC sense) contacts!
I did everything you can think of even complete RESET for my phone!
But REJOICE Android HTC users, IT IS NOT YOUR FAULT.... or better say, it is NOT HTC's fault, it is because of the Privacy Settings of that friend in his/her facebook account.
He/She has activated the (Turn Off All Platform Apps) under Privacy Settings -> Apps and Websites -> Apps You Use !!!
Once the user changes their settings and you Sync, they will appear back again, but you have to re-link them.
Many thanks for this information.
This setting has take some hourse of try and error to solve the problem on my device.
Hey guys, I want to sync Facebook contacts with my phone contacts. Should I use the Facebook Application to sync or log into HTC Sense for Facebook to do the syncing?
I used the facebook to sync with my contacts, however they did not link my contacts (from my sim card) with my facebook's contacts. Might be the sim card's problem.
But is it able to sync to your phone contacts?

Yea, but only those who included their phone no. in their facebook's profile. To see the complete list of your FB's contact, including those who didn't include their contact no., you can find them through "people" > "online directories" > "facebook".
Not sure if it's of any help.
I see. How about using htc sense for Facebook? How does it works?

Ohno, I'm so sorry! I realise I'm using Facebook for HTC Sense all the while. I had to manually link the my contacts.
Sorry for the confusion!
Oh I see. So what's the process like? Under Accounts and Sync, add a HTC Sense for Facebook account first is it? And let it sync?
I would use Facebook sence. The reason I say this is because it should suggest auto links for your contacts. However I still found it got a little confused and was better to link manually. Also it will give you more options with other HTC features. Also if you then use Facebook for android make sure you chose not to sync contacts. This is because your contacts will get two lots of Facebook info, one from sence and one from android. Found that a right pain.

Yea, I think that's what I did. Under Accounts & Sync > Facebook for HTC Sense > Sync contacts.
This will auto sync the phone contacts with the Facebook one? Or need to manually sync?

I use both, as I've had issues syncing at different times. As long as the names are similar or there is something similar about the contacts it will ask to link them, least it did for my 300 contacts on the phone.
Hi,
I've had the same problem which I can't resolve.
I have both a "Facebook" account and a "Facebook for HTC sense" account. I can sync the facebook account to my contacts in my cellphone (HTC DHD) just fine. All my contacts will be sync'd and it will get me their pictures from facebook, however those pictures are zoomed in and of bad quality.
Therefore I chose to sync "Facebook for HTC sense" to my contacts. It gives me better pictures (except there is a Facebook logo on them), and it writes their last wall post in my contacts list.
The issue is that it doesn't sync all my contacts (which are in both my facebook friends and my phone contacts of course), I have 2 or 3 people missing...
I looked on the Internet for hours and didn't find any solution. It's either all the contacts with bad pictures, or most of them with good pictures but F logo on them.
If anyone gets more info about all that, please answer.
Thank you.
I could not understand the exact logic difference between Facebook & Facebook for HTC Sense and also Tweeter & Tweeter for HTC Sense and how to sync them (both or only select one).
All I want to see my "Favoruites" widget update my contacts status on a regular basis from facebook or tweeter (whichever one is most updated).
How you guys use this?

Agree with this 100%, I prefer using the official Facebook app, instead of Facebook for HTC Sense, however I'm thoroughly annoyed that the picture qualities are awful and zoomed in.
Googled it up and found that Facebook app was update in version 1.4 to allow high-res pictures to be linked to the contacts, but for some reason on the DHD even though the Facebook app is at version 1.5 the image qualities are still terrible.
Anyone managed to sync their Facebook contacts/pictures to their DHD without using HTC Sense and still getting good quality images?
Hi,
I've got an issue, not a massive one but it bugs me nonetheless.
Currently, when I tap the Phone button from the home screen it brings up a list which shows my recent call list, if I scroll down I get a long list of all my contacts. The thing I find annoying is that the long list includes all of my Facebook "friends" that have a telephone number listed.
What I would like is for this list to only contain my contacts (copied over from my SIM), and for the ones that are linked to a Facebook account, to have their status etc updated. I do not want my random Facebook "friends" to be in the list.
The most recent thing I've done to try and solve this issue is to go into the Facebook app on the phone and change the 'Sync Contacts' settings (Menu-> Settings) to 'Don't sync'. I then went into (phone) Settings-> Applications-> Manage Applications-> All (tab)-> Contacts storage-> Clear Data. I then copied my contacts back over from the SIM. (I've also tried the 'Sync with existing contacts' option as well)
All was well for a while, my contacts linked up again and I got facebook details for my contacts when calling them. However I noticed to my annoyance that my Phone list now contains my facebook contacts again!
I notice under Settings->Accounts and Sync I have two (removable) Facebook accounts, one is Facebook, the other is Facebook for HTC Sense. Does anyone know if it would help to remove either of these accounts?
Can anyone help me find a way to solve this issue (preferably without extra software or going through the People menu)?
Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks,
Grim.
I just fixed this myself.
I think it's something to do with how HTC Facebook interacts with official Facebook. If I turned of syncing on both (but left contact sync disabled in both) I'd still get contacts in Phone (and also in suggestions in sms app). If I removed both, then added Facebook official only I'd still get them.
In the end, opening up Facebook on my PC and going into privacy then apps and disabling Facebook for HTC Sense seemed to solve it to me. I could then use the official Facebook app without getting all these contacts I'd never use.
I didn't care about getting contact pictures and stuff so I never tried letting official Facebook sync with existing contacts only, but it might work properly.
Hope this helps, completely unscientific but it seemed to for me!

Hi JBrizz thanks for your reply.
I didn't think of logging into the facebook website to disable anything. I'll give that a try.
In the meantime I've fiddled about with the accounts in 'Accounts and Sync'. I've tried deleting both the Facebook and Facebook for HTC Sense accounts.
After deleting both I went into the Facebook app and signed in, which recreates the account in Accounts and Sync. I set the sync options in the app to not sync any contacts. I waited around for a while and no extra contacts (from Facebook) appeared in my Phone list.
I then went into the Facebook app and changed the sync settings to 'sync with existing contacts' - which I assumed should only sync the data for the people currently in my phone book? Anyway after a few minutes I checked an all of my Facebook friends were now in my Phone list AGAIN
I started from fresh again and tried a similar thing with the other Facebook for HTC Sense account - I had to recreate this in the Accounts and Sync settings screen.
Again after a few minutes all my Facebook friends where there on my Phone list
Maybe this functionality isn't available with this phone / app?
Anyone else have any ideas?
It is a google problem, not a HTC problem.
The HTC app is doing what it should be doing. If you go to the people app, click on your contact (far left) and then menu -> view you can see the facebook option is unchecked.
However the Phone dialer (google product) just syncs everything.
There is a issue no for this, 10618 @

Best thing to do is you guys reply and make this defect more and more noticeable.
I've posted on the google issue site, cheers for the link!
Hi guys,
I decided to set up my linkedin account with HTC sense after discovering the plugin in HTC Hub. I added my account as usual and discovered that instead of attaching the account to my existing own contact (i.e. 'Me' in the 'People' app), it created a new contact with my name just for my linkedin profile! This only happens for me, not my contacts...
Has anyone experienced this too or did I run into a weird bug? Do you guys have a suggestion or some sort of a solution to merge the two (somehow, I can't link the contact with 'Me')? Removing and readding the account doesn't seem to help. I know that's a small inconvenience, but it's quite annoying to have to scroll down to acceess my profile (got lots of contacts and my first name starts with a V :S).
Thanks
Hello,
I'm not sure if this a HTC One X specific problem, but I didn't have it on my old Samsung Galaxy. If I open the preinstalled (I guess official) Facebook app on the HTC One X, it asks me what I want to sync. I don't want to sync anything, so I choose that option an press "done". However, the stupid things still keeps syncing all my Facebook friends to my phone contacts (it adds a Facebook phone book). I don't want this. If I delete the Facebook account under "Accounts & Sync" the synced data is removed, however, if I open the Facebook app after that, it will ask me again what I want to sync and the whole things starts over. Is there any way to avoid this?
Many thanks.
It'll add the friends but it won't sync them to your existing phone contacts. Just untick the Facebook contacts in 'People' and they won't show up
But there is now way of not even allowing it to import the Facebook phone book?
Well, yeah - telling it not to sync should do that...if it doesn't then I'd say no
I had the same problem and fixed it with removing that annoying app forever ...
