http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=901449

i was having a similar issue i flashed one the latests builds and went and see if the usb tethering was working, well i wasn't working so i checked the device manager, the phone was there but under the name android device mytouch 4g, so I downloaded the mytouch 4g htcdriver.exe from the htc website
open the wizard fallow the instructions, make sure your phone is not connected to your pc when running the wizard, once is done connect your phone to ur pc, it will detect and install any drivers need it, hope this helps

Flash a updated build such as this one:

yeah that is my problem i cant seen to beable to get cwm3 on my phone (G2) i do the fastboot method and when i hit enter on the cmd it says waiting for device and dose not do anything also when i connect my phone when its in hboot it trys to ibstal android 1.0 and fails to do so i think that is why it waits for device and does nothing any ideas????

Not tested with CM7-vision builds, but for flashing
the Team Villain Gingerbread Version I used CWM 2.5.1.3,
CWM3 not needed!
I only need CWM3 for flashing gapps,because don`t work
with CWM 2.5.1.3!

so..any problems about this case?
It must be something to do with one (or all) of those ROMs, i cant say ive had an issue like this but best bet is to go into the Andriod Development section and find the thread on a particular ROM and then ask the question in that thread
finally, i got the solution, i need update my radio rom that make the camara can record 720p
Bish Bash Bosh!
Nice work mate, enjoy the 720p!

Please help a noob root

Hey guys I have been reading about this for the last 3 hours or so and I just want to make sure I have everything figured out before I start this practice. Please check over what I have lined up and let me know if you have any recommendations.
Phone Info:
HBoot 2.10
Android 2.2
Baseband 2.15.00.11.19
Kernel 2.6.32.17
Software 3.70.651.1
PRI 1.90_003
I read this article first:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865204
From there I decided that Universal Auto Root was the best choice for me. Is this correct?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=838448
I am currently downloading the RUU and AutoRoot v2.0 as suggested by the instructions on the thread above. The part that is tripping me up is what to do about a ROM. From what I can tell the AutoRoot puts on the Sprint Lovers ROM. I have a fair amount of experience with ADW and LP so I'm not set on using the Sense UI. However if I do use Sense I think I would like to use this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=883026 It seems to be Sense minus the bull****. I don't know how to use AutoRoot with a different ROM. If anyone could help me there that would be amazing!
Also, if anyone recommends rooting a different way or using a different ROM please let me know or if someone can link me to go instructions about flashing ROMs etc.
Thank you and I apologize for asking something that has probably already been asked. I am just trying to get the most updated responses to ensure this goes well.
Just go to www.unrevoked.com and chose your phone. Download the reflash file and the usb driver. Follow the instructions of how to install rhe usb driver. Run the reflash file and it will do the rest. Good hunting.....

So do the unrevoked3 and then the unrevoked forever? Do I need to remove HTC Sync or anything?
Yes. Make sure that HTC sync is not installed!!! and just used unrevoke forever and have HBOOT drivers installed Prier to rooting. GOOD LUCK
How do I get the HBOOT drivers installed? So nothing to do with unrevoked3? Should I format my SD card beforehand just to be safe as well? Sorry for so many questions.
Here you go. fallow the instructions.

Ok well I never moved the unrevoked-forever.zip to my SD Card. Was I supposed to? Unrevoked3 flash tool or whatever ran and now my phone reads S-Off which is the goal. Now what do I do? Should I do the backups suggested here (RSA keys and nandroid)? Should I try to flash a ROM? Any suggested ROMs? How do I go about flashing a ROM? Move it to SD Card and go into recovery but then what?
Don't put unrevoke on your sd card. You have to do it on your PC. PLEASE MAKE A NANDROID!!! I CAN STRESS THAT ENOUGH!!! As far as Rom's try Myn's, is the best Rom right now.

If you have S-OFF you are rooted, now you just need to decide if you want to use a custom ROM or keep the stock one.
i'm not sure you absolutely get rooting. once you are rooted, you can SWITCH roms easily and safely. but, in order to do this, you need to install a custom recovery and a rooted rom. in the earlier days, devs would compile rooted roms from scratch, but sprint lovers is just a rooted rom with minor improvements. just root and then change roms.
Alright I rooted it successfully, flashed a ROM successfully, and then tried it out. Now I would like to try another one. I put the new ROM on the SDCard and now I am wondering what I have to wipe in clockwork recovery. I went into recovery and I have wiped cache partition, wiped data/factory reset, and wiped dalvik cache. Now do I just go ahead and "install zip from sdcard"?
Yes, going from ROM to ROM wipe Data, Cache and Dalvik and flash as normal. Should be good.
Always make backups. I advise you to change your Recovery to Amon Ra's. This will allow you to make backups of your "RSA Keys." This is important for 4G / WiMax.
Once you've changed recoveries, should you even choose to (don't HAVE to), make a backup with that one. Backups from Clockwork will not work with Amon's recovery, from what I've heard. Maybe there is a way from last I heard, but not sure. So when that's done, you can put those clockwork backups on your computer or delete them. Only after making sure you're sitting fine.
Either way, establish backups (I have a stock rooted backup, confirmed working CURRENT ROM as well as taking one before doing something drastic. JIC ) and then start flashing. Try to enjoy yourself.
edit: toss those backups somewhere safe IE computer / ext hdd etc

Hey guy also a bit of a noob here when it comes to the Evo, I rooted my incredible and it worked fine but I am worried a bit more about this phone cause its a work phone. First I was wondering does 4g work with any of the custom roms? I see that Cryogen just came out with an asop rom that seems to work with 4g but I am wondering do the sense based roms work with 4g? Also I see something about wimax keys what are they and what happens if I lose them.

4g works with all ota-based roms (minus the serious exeptions of course). rsa keys are the acutal keys that say "this phone is authorized to use the sprint 4g network". they are matched with hardware, so if you lose them, you cant ever get them back. even sprint cant. the easiest way to prevent this is to not use clockworkmod (i think its safe now) and to back up your keys. niether of these are very hard.
Ok thanks so I just use unrevoked to root the phone and then do a first time nandroid backup and I should be good to go? Then I can do S-off if I want?
Also how hard right now is it to put the phone back to stock if something strange should happen? Want to make sure I get to use my 7 buck a month insurance if I have something go wrong with the phone.

Rooting and flashing Roms on Mac

I have a mytouch4g and i have rooted with S-off and have flashed multiple roms. Pretty familiar with it.
my friends gf has an incredible that shes tired of the crappy battery life etc. I want to help her out and root her phone and flash some custom roms but all the info i see is by using a pc. anyone have links to info for flashing on a mac?
any help would be appreciated.
thanks.
It is actually easier on a Mac. I have a MacBook myself. Just go to unrevoked.com and select the incredible. Download and open the DMG, make sure the phone has USB debugging turned on (under applications - development) and plug it in to the mac. Make sure to select charge only. And open the app and it will do its thing.
Flashing ROMs is no different from normal. Just out it on the SD card, wipe and flash through recovery. You may want to update the recovery first though. Either through hboot or ROM Manager.
*this is all from memory however. As I'm on my phone.

I had issues on .8, so that's why I'm sticking with .7. First time I upgraded to .8, I got a black screen when I tried to go into Recovery. Dropped back and it fixed it. Not sure if it was just a bad install of Recovery or not.

k first rom i tried AOSP 4.0.3ANDROID OPEN KANG PROJECT-TORO BUILD8 so i wiped data factory reset and cache n dalvik and flashed the rom, it looks like it starts to flash but aborts with the message above, then i restored my nan backup rebooted and went back to cwm to reflash the second time around i only wipe data factory reset cuz thats what the op says to do on his thread so i only wipe data factory n flash the rom still same error, so i went to try another rom GUMMYNEX 0.2.3 and i did the same process with both im following the steps their stating in the op in have cwm
From what the error sounds like is that it doesn't think you have the correct device. You have a CDMA phone and not a GSM?

There's a guide and even videos by qbking77 via youtube on rooting. Must use Odin to root. One-clicks died with Froyo for this device.
Each phone reacts differently to each rom, and Android version. Highly recommend you just try out whatever ones look good to you. (IE: my phone just can't handle JB. The limited RAM is a deal breaker for me. Everything is laggy, slow and unusable. I stick with ICS. Others have absolutely no issues running JB.)
Okay thank you, what's with the whole BML and MTD thing?

Stock is BML.
Anything above Gingerbread is MTD. Some of the Gingerbread roms are MTD, and are noted as such.
CWM v5.0.2.7 is BML only, anything higher is MTD only.
So if I understand this correctly, if I flash any rom that is 2.3.7 and under is BML and ics and above is MTD?

Ahh okay thank you, I think I'm understanding it a little better. So if I want say CM on my phone, I'll have to convert to MTD and in order to go back to a ROM like stock or something similar I have to odin back to complete stock then re root?

All of our MTD-based roms automatically check BML/MTD partition state. If you're on BML, the install script will auto-convert you to MTD.
In order to go back to a BML rom, whether stock or not, you need to use Odin to reformat.
I don't think you would technically need to flash stock and re-root, but is always recommended to flash stock (Re-rooting isn't necessary). You would have to format using Odin and also flash CWM 5.0.2.7. Battery pull. Put battery back and 3-finger boot into recovery and flash away.

Make sure you aren't plugged into a USB hub or emulated port. Plug the cord into a port directly on the motherboard.
Okay I finally got it connected, needed a different data cable. Now do you think you could explain to me how to root better, the video is old and a bit confusing. What do I have to choose for the FC09 the MTD or BML, could you or anyone give me like a small step by step please!

Root:
Power down device
Open keyboard, press and hold both the 1 key and power button. This places the phone into download mode.
Plug the device into your computer, and most likely drivers will install. Allow that to finish before proceeding.
Within Odin, wait until you see COM and a port number appear. That means your phone is recognized.
Next, uncheck all boxes on the left side, including auto-reboot.
Place the victory_8G_100528.pit file in the PIT box. Place CWM v5.0.2.7 .bin/.tar/.md5 file in the PDA box.
Click start and will complete relatively quickly.
Disconnect the phone from USB and pull the battery out.
Replace battery.
Press and hold Vol down, Camera and Power buttons until the capacitative lights light up, then release. This will place you in recovery mode.
From there you will boot into CWM, where you can flash whatever you want (custom rom or a compatible kernel for FC09 & SuperSU) off the SD card. So place those files prior to doing all the above.
Keep in mind, that if you want to remain on stock FC09, but rooted, you will need to flash a custom kernel. The stock kernel will replace CWM with stock recovery every time. That is why in the list above you must disable auto-reboot and battery pull.
All files are in my devhost, in my signature. If not, then they expired and I can reupload them if notified.
From stock, if you want to flash a MTD rom you will encounter the following:
Partition will be converted to MTD
MTD compatible version of CWM (v5.5+) will be installed
Recovery will auto-reboot
You must manually flash the same rom again in the new CWM version.
Rom will install
You may need to reflash the rom in CWM if you run into a stuck boot or boot loop.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it. I will be doing this later tonight and let you know how everything goes
Just letting you know I rooted successfully and running supernexus! Thank you so much for all your help, much appreciated!
