Its not radio s-off, unless you have ran gfree you don't have a true s-off, just a similated s-off, there's an explanation in the Wiki on what the diffrence is.

Depends if you want S-OFF or not. Gfree gives you full radio S-OFF, which is much safer than if you only have the "fake" S-OFF from the eng hboot.
Also, gfree gives you SuperCID and SIM unlock too.

I have a us cellular htc desire running 2.2 with hboot 1.06. I just got it a couple days ago and have been searching continuiously for a method to root. With the s-on it makes it difficult i assume and searched for methods of making it s-off but havent found anything. Can anyone please let me know of any ways that are known to root if any for this particular hboot. Thank you in advanced.

You can try to Root the phone with the Visionary APK, but it just gives a half-root, not a full root. Clockwork and AmonRa will not change the Recovery without S-OFF.
Until someone figures out how to set S-ON to S-OFF, we cannot install any ROMs.
hi, i just bought a desire z and permrooted with visionary r12. how do i get eng s-off so i can flash radios? because the guides i saw here said i should first get temp root then push the hboot.img then permroot. my prob is i am already perm rooted but not yet eng s-off
Visionary is not recommended for permanent root because it doesn't work reliably for all phones.
I would follow the procedure listed in the wiki, it uses gfree and will give you true S-OFF.

where can i find this gfree?
Have you opened your eyes and read the stickies?

There are guides all over the Dev forum, like this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1097977

The safest way to root your device is to follow the method in the wiki, the only way you can brick your device with that method is if you mistype something.
I had never rooted a device until the G2 and did so the day the devs achieved root while having a cocktail after work. Just double check your typing before sending the commands and all will be well.

This really isn't good advice. OP should read the sticky about Visionary having a high chance of bricking devices before trying to temproot. Follow the guide in the wiki for root, it works well just follow instructions and go slow.
using visionary has low brick rate for temp root...only using it for permroot yields a risk. i only stated what was easiest for me. btw its great advice...lol

But the OP stated that Visionary bricked their device when they attempted to root it and you recommended they use Visionary again.

if u go to the visionary website it states clearly there is no risk for temp root only permroot...but u can also use z4root instead...not sure if thats safer or not

you should know that is specifically regarding the permanent root option.
I wouldn't think twice about temp rooting with visionary. it's not going to harm anything. nonetheless, follow the wiki. it's the way to go.
Best way to root is the xda wiki meathod which i used. its based on gfree meathod. also if u have a branded device u need to create a goldcard first and downgrade if your not at firmware 1.34xxx
Why will this forum not rid itself of the visionary ****. It has ruined so many phones it's just GROSSLY irresponsible for the devs to leave that trash on here. It truly is.
This one is the safest method.

yes you have to downgrade... i used this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178912
...for perm root i would suggest to use the wiki guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wik...sion#Rooting_the_Vision_.28G2.2FDZ.29_and_DHD
thanks, no one click root? It looks so complicated...
There is also a one click root... But i dont recommend it, because it has a high potential to brick your phone

Thanks! I rooted it yesterday, took me 5 hours to downgrade and root, but was all worth it. Wasnt very hard, the steps were easy to follow. (I have some experience with adb)
