Root problem, help please - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just got my new Incredible set up, and plugged it into my Windows 7 x64 PC to run unrEVOked. The standard drivers installed properly, but when I turned on debugging, it says ADB isn't installed.
How do I install it?
It's the standard SDK from google, right?

The incredible is a great phone. I put mine down for a few days cuz I was taking my honeymoon and needed the extra battery life my Droid x gives me. Going back home today. Back to the trusty ole incredible. Trust me, people will tell u that the fascinate and droids have better proccessors(they do) but the snapdragon is still a beast for its day, and sense by htc is by far the best android skin.

I noticed in the latest SDK that ADB is not in it, so I manually added the files from the previous version. Weird.

I tried formatting his sd, I tried the new two step easy root method, I tried everything its like his sd card doesn't work.

The computer is not seeing the evo. Make sure you are connected on charge only and usb debugging is on. Also make sure you have net 4. 0 from windows installed, htc sync installed for the drivers, and i always have andoid sdk installed on my puter 2.

Did u get it done? What simple root are you using? I still use the 4 step for 1. 47. Always works for me so if it aint broke dont fix it.

No I haven't got it rooted, I'm down to using adb shell, four step and new two step doesn't work, I plugged my rooted evo in and it went, its something with his phone, he still using evo with only one ota, I can't figure it out, I thought about doing factory reset. Then try again .

White Evo won't root

After doing hours upon hours of research yesterday, I have come to the conclusion that if you have a White Evo, it cannot be rooted yet. I have a black one - hardware version 003 and it rooted just fine using Unrevoked.
My wife, however, decided to get the white Evo - which is also hardware version 003. I ran the same steps for her except Unrevoked came up with the "[Internal Error: Can't find Misc]"
The reason I come up with blaming it on white Evo's is because I saw threads by other people around the internet who couldn't root their white Evo's either.
Is anybody working on this? Although I am a tech geek, I am nowhere nearly as geeky as you all that make the hacks, roms, and cracks.
Unrevoked is not the only method of rooting.
I have a white evo and its rooted on hardware 0003......I used unrevoked with no problem....

I didn't find any other ways up to date yet... plus, last I heard, new Evo's can't be rooted yet.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Hmmm wonder what the differences are.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
hmmm, wonder where this should be posted
is it h-boot 2.02?
Hmm this is a question but also a development question. Hmm maybe I should double post this in the Q and A forum as well!

Driver
Is you driver working correctly?
I just got an EVO today (white one) with HBoot 2.02 and had to read the "Like a Boss" Guide to root it but had 0 trouble. Running Myn's Warm 2.2 and everything works perfectly.
Yes the drivers work. I used the same configuration to root my black Evo.

There really should not be a difference other than color as you stated your wife's "white evo" is using the same hardware as your black evo "0003" so you should be able to root it the sameway. Now the second time I had to root my black Evo #0003 it took doing the operation 3 times before the root was successful.

5 vibration diagnostic code

So lately I've been getting the 5 vibration code and I've been searching around here and on other forums and no one seems to know what causes it. Has anyone else that's been experiencing this noticed that it seems to go away after a battery pull and then letting the phone cool down? I'm rooted with unrevoked running cm7 rc2 with Chad's newest kernel right now and tried running cm7 with the included kernel and experienced the same issue.
My main concern is whether to ruu and whether thats going to fix it or if it's simply a hardware issue
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA Premium App
I have it too. Can you boot your phone up like normal after a little while? Everyone else on this forum who gets this can't do jack with their phone. I can boot up fine afterwards, it's just extremely annoying.
It's a code for some kind of hardware failure and they all had to get a new phone. I've been told a RUU may fix everything, but that's a semi-long process for someone as ADD as me to go through. You could try it though. And if you do, shoot me a PM with the results.
Yeah that's exactly what mine does, It'll boot right away and I usually only run into the issue when I'm playing a game for more than five minutes or using my phone in a warm environment. It seems to hit 100° F and then stops itself from overheating.
I was really hoping to not have to Ruu, because its such a process and I don't want to lose the gingerbread keyboard. Maybe someone else will chime in with another idea.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA Premium App
So far you and I are the only 2 I know about in the internet who can still boot up like normal afterwards.
I wiped dalvik last night and I haven't had the issue today, you might give that a try. It can't hurt.
-CM7 ADR6300
Ill try that today. I initially thought it was the battery overheating but it did it with the stock 1300 and its doing it with the evo battery I'm using now. Ill finish setting up adb and try the ruu next week when I get time.

This just in, rebooted while playing star wars podracing on n64oid.
I think it is a heat issue, cuz my phone is always pretty warm when it happens.
-CM7 ADR6300
I've read about this in a lot of forums lately. But it seems like it only comes up with cm7. You guys sure its not rom related?

Also had it on OMFGB, though not as frequently.
Also, today I've noticed my haptic feedback has been... varied in vibration intensity.

Well I broke down tried the RUU and that went through fine but I cant seem to replicate the error with stock. I tried gaming for about 20 minutes and it didnt do it yet, normally it does it after like 5
Good to know.
Have you gone back to CM7 and seen if it helps out there?
-CM7 ADR6300
No I havent tried rerooting yet and reinstalling cm7 It keeps doing it only now it gets stuck in a boot loop instead of doing the five vibration thing then it boot loops about 3-5 times till it cools itself down then restarts normally like nothing ever happened
I already talked to verizon and the new ones in the mail so theres really no sense messing with it anymore now i just need to decide if i want to root the next phone or not
That's what's happening to mine now, too... I also couldn't root it? Unrevoked kept failing. Oh well. I'm selling it and migrating to a Thunderbolt.

What version of ClockWorkMod are you running? I read some problems with flashing CM7 caused by CWM 3.0.0.8 that was fixed by going to 3.0.0.7

Yeah, you've got that right !!!!
When it happened to me I couldn't do a damn thing except get into clockwork Mod, which didn't help because I couldn't access the sdcard. I called up verizon and got a new one. For the two of you that actually have a working phone after this is your phone S-ON or S-OFF?

100F is nothing for these processors. Think about it, your body is 98F and a processor is meant to handle a lot more heat than your body. I know the TI OMAP in the original droid had a failure point of 220F.

Nope, not rom related since it happened to me when I was using Incredibly Re-Engineered v2.3 and flashing a custom kernel when it happened.
Mine remained rooted ans s-off throughout the issue.
I unrooted and applied s-on and reverted to the November RUU and it fixed everything.
Rerooted and reapplied s-off a few hours ago and flashed Virtuous. No more CM7 for me. That's when I started having issues.
Mine does the same thing. Vibrates once, turns off, vibrates 5 times and the LED blinks green. I think mine is related to an overheating issue. Mine reboots almost always when im plugged into the car charger, talking on the phone over bluetooth on my way to work. About a 35-45 minute commute. Even when plugged in at home, and while messing with the settings as well. The only thing that is almost always the same is the screen brightness. Thats when it gets super warm and then turns off. I'll try it out with the screen brightness settings to lower then usual. But when I let it cool off, like I do in the car in front of the A/C vent for about 30 seconds,, with the battery out of the device, it comes right back on no problems.
Mine was rooted and s off. I believe I installed cm7 using clockwork 3.0.0.7 then upgraded to 8 and still had the issue. I know 100°f is nothing for a processor but it seemed to have issues as soon as it got around 110 then if you let it sit it works again so that's what led me to thinking it was a heat issue even though it doesn't make much sense

Root from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1160511
simply dl, unzip to desktop, install other files on website, plug in phone "with usb debugging" and set to charge. Run Alpharevx and it will do all the work for you. It will also install Clockwork Recovery.
From there I did this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1160745
and after that simply install the ROM you want in the Dinc2 Android Dev section of this forum. I have used CM7 and MIUI 1.7.8. I was a CM fan but am really enjoying the MIUI interface and themes. You can DL Rom Manager from the market and have it DL and install the latest version of either one of these themes, or you can dl them from this site and install them manually.

It came with it preinstalled I read that much and when I saw that got a little frustrated
Sent from my ADR6350 using XDA Premium App
first thing to do when you're DInc2 arrives is check the software info. If you're still on Froyo, then you're golden, you can use a free software utility made by Alpharev X to S-OFF (bypass the digital signature that prevents unauthorized software installation). If it comes preinstalled with Gingerbread, you're boned; the only way to S-OFF is to use an XTC Clip which will cost you abit of cash. If you find yourself needing to go that route, PM me, I have an unused PAYG XTC Clip with 1 credit.
In came with gingerbread is there not a way to flash the froyo Rom like the fascinate if not I don't think ill root for a while in case I need to take my phone in

Fascinate replacement Including here Tues...questions

So, Verizon decided they didn't want to deal with me and my lack of mobile web issue, and is sending me an Inc2. It should be here Tuesday. So, being the super sluthe I am, I've been checking out all the posts about rooting, and roms, and themes and apps. Is it really that easy to root this phone? Really??? There's no problems with voodoo and non-voodoo, and flashing the wrong kernel with the wrong cwm???? Seriously????? OMG! I'm going to love this phone! I think I've been able to use my fascinate for about 10 days out of the last 30 because I flashed a voodoo kernel on a non-voodoo rom and bricked my phone. I had to go back to eclair , and now I can't root it again. I can't wait to get this phone!
Peace!
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA Premium App
Yep, now that Gingerbread has been s-off'd this phone just became awesome. I can't ever see myself going to something different for the time being.
Oh yes. Coming from the charge this phone is a piece of cake to root and flash

Great. This is not only my first rooting, but my first android period. Now I'll be afraid to move to another device, not that I want to right now. Probably never leave htc anyway.

Don't be scared! I figure that if worse comes to worse, "my phone fell out of my pocket and I accidentally ran it over...here's $50, came I have a replacement?" Follow me?

I came from an Incredible which was rooted and running CM7 for about 8 months. Now that I had the Incredible 2 I felt underwhelmed because I couldn't root it. That has all went away since I am rooted.
I dont see how this phone is easier to root? SuperOneClick was pretty straight forward. And the Fascinate was pretty unbrickable. This phone isnt.

Gotta agree here. Just came from the Fassy myself. Was pretty simple as long as you knew what you were doing and followed directions and not flashing voodoo onto non voodoo I felt better knowing it was virtually impossible to brick my device with Odin on standby. I just rooted my inc2 last night and I havent flashed anything yet but I am researching the better and stable roms in the dev section to try and pick one. They all look great so its hard to decide. Lol. Think I want a Sense 3.0 rom though. Anyone have any good suggestions? Preferably one that is bugless and everything functioning correctly.
