you should use BandSwitch so batteries are not wasteful...
Dual line support with two pin codes.
If the password(s) is/are incorrect the device will sound and vibrate and show Pin Page.
Pin enable user: remember to enter pin(s) again after reinstall.

Looking in my magic glass bowl and speculating about what you did not tell to judge your situation, I guess:
- messed up installation of SW on the system -> do a hard reset
- weird custom ROM settings -> use another ROM or shipped ROM
- check how long your battery lasts with standard load (see my signature)
Saving battery power is always a good idea, but unless you are in very bad radio coverage, switching off the mobile or radio is not helping much for battery life. Your operator sets the interval for the mobile to reconfirm its location even if not moving, so for some operators the load may be high on battery during the night, for others neglect-able.
Automatic disconnect for WIFI is already part of the standard settings, no need for a dedicated tool imho.

Keep ON wireless in standby mode

Do you know if it's possible avoid turn-off wireless in stand-by???
I'd like to use VoIP with my Artemis (with hand-free and wireless connection), but it's impossible becouse after 1 minute (my pda is set to turn-off after 1 minute) the phone goes in stand-by mode and plugs off the wireless antenna.
Can I set "Always on" to wireless connection???
as yet i failed to accomplish this. all i can do so far is turn off the monitor to save a bit power. not the same as standby mode at all though.
I've got this tweak from somewhere, I'm not sure (maybe wiki page):
"AUTO DISCONNECT WHEN GPRS IDLE
you can edit the registry key ...
HKey_Local_Machine/Comm/ConnMgr/Planner/Settings/CacheTime
Change from 600 to 60
it will disconnect after connection is idle for 60 seconds ...
There's also another key needed to be set. Otherwise, my PDA still has always on 3G data connection.
HKey_Local_Machine/Comm/ConnMgr/Planner/Settings/SuspendResume
Change from ~GPRS! - Always on
to GPRS_bye_if_device_off - switch off after timeout"
It may help if you make the changes THE OTHER WAY ROUND. For you the desired value in 'HKey_Local_Machine/Comm/ConnMgr/Planner/Settings/SuspendResume' is '~GPRS!' And the cache time value should be set to '0' (as infinite), if it doesn't work, set to a high value (i.e. 3600 - it means 1 hour).
I'm not sure it helps but it's worth to give it a try...
i guess he was talking about WLAN connection, not gprs or 3G. however, i might be wrong.

You are right, sorry. I've just misunderstood the problem, paying not enough attention to the first post...
So the only way is disable auto sandby and swith-off screen?
I thought a way to solve this situation could be keeping active OS during VoIP connection, just to avoid standby...
Its not enabled for a very good reason, it consumes so much power your device would last just a few hours before running out of power.

that is true. however, they could still give us the option
i think the real "problem" is that WLAN needs the OS running to work. the GSM unit is working differently.

It seems to be what I want, an application that avoid standby mode but preserve battery (setting lcd off, various device option off...)
I'll try it!
Thanks
Skype
I am not sure if this is still relevant, but in skype i think to have seen an option that says: "disable stand by mode when connected to Wlan" or something like that...
however of course the "batteryproblem" will still be there...
Please post your experiences with S2U2 once made, thanks!
Don't mean to "thread jack" but how can I tell the difference between the screen just being off and the phone being in standby mode?
I'm asking because I'm having a problem with my phone when I turn on Flight mode. Usually I turn on flight mode at night or in a meeting but I'm finding that the battery is still draining (rather quickly too) when I'm in flight mode and the device is off all night. If I'm at 40% batt level at 11:00pm and put the phone in Flight mode, by the morning about 6:30am, the battery is down to like 5%! And there are no programs running at all, screen is off, device is untouched all night. So when I saw this thread, I started to wonder if the phone was in really in standby or if the screen was just off.
Is S2U2 the option to keep the WLAN enabled when in standby mode?
I know i can disable going in to standby but would be nice if it can be done without this.
The power drain is most peoples concern but if i'm at work i have it plugged into the power anyway but would like to use one of the WLAN's here that isn't being monitored

Win $5 today!

Hello EveryOne,
I have Imate PDA2K and any one who is going to solve my following two issues i will pay him $5 as a gift from me by PayPal.
The problems are:
1. When ever i remove the battery of my phone to change the sim card the time and date changes to the default time and date something like the manufature date. I try to upgrade the rom to wm5, then wm6 but nothing help. Even the backup battery is showing 100% full all the time.
2. When ever i try to call i press the answer button but the call don't connects. Some times connects and some time i have to try hundreds of time to connect my call. Same thing is for the recieving the call. Some time it connects and sometimes it hangs during answering the call.
I will really pay $5 who will help me to sort out these problems. I buy this device as pre-owned device that's why not able to get help at clubimate.com and hence plan to get help here and pay a part of pre-owned fee to someone here.
Thank you,
1.) it's a backup battery problem, change the backup battery.
eventhough it says 100% doesnt mean it's not failing.
the backup battery is charging from your main battery.
it may show 100% but easy recharged when you put the main battery.
if it is easily recharged... it will easily discharge... hence, flat batt.
2.) i dont know this but it maybe related to main battery failing to give power to the phone module. i had a BA with no service /and/ talks disconnection once but when i changed to a new battery it was gone.

1. Can backup battery easily changable i mean is it like a big battery like we have in our pc motherboards or a special service center have to change it?
2. Let me change the baterry today and see what happens.
no prob... just add your reward to your battery procurement.
and i hope that works...
What else may be?

I have changed the battery today and it done the same call answering problem just one time in over 20 calls before this ratio was 99% of 100% times.
What else may be creating this problem of hanging mobile during recieving the call. And also please tell me which rom of wm6 is best you think i will use?
install 2003se rom back, if u hv 2005.
try xplode's latest cook. it's in the WM6 thread of BA
The rom does not matter (well mine is a lil quicker than others but)
1. Simple SIM change procedure - press power, wait 10-20 sec. , then remove the battery and change the sim. after powering on hit reset once (or you will get no radio) - this way the date will not reset
2. Phone LAG - this problem occures when a lot of memory and cpu power is used for the OS, then the phone starts to lag. Here is a simple tweak which will speed up the phone app - press Start => Settings => Sounds & Notifications , remove the check for Events (warnings, system events)
there are a lot of tweaks which will speed up overall performance of the phone, but you need to search the forums for them
And remember, the phone app is the same for all WM5/6 devices so the tweaks are the same, you can look in other devices forums for tweaks
Thnx Every One!
Hello,
Thank you every one for your replies.
I changed the battery and currently checking it to make sure the problems got solve out.

[Kobridge]Getting BAD battery life? Post your screenshots here

I open this thread to help the users having bad battery life and find out the possible resolutions. Whenever you see the bad battery life, in most of the cases it would be caused by some specific apps or the way you are using the phone and it's not from the ROM itself.
As you may know, I'm working on Kobridge Tweaks and trying to improve the performance and battery life but there're lots of variances that we still don't know and have to know.
So, let's work together to find out the better solutions!
In here, please share your screenshots and your settings. But, don't post with just simple words - it's good or it's bad. We need the following information when you post;
1. Your ROM related info - Rom name, version
2. Kernel/modem version
3. Any additional apps installed
4. Any tweaks that you did by yourself
5. When you post, please add the screenshots -

Kobridge - General Settings to extend the battery life
General Settings or Configuration to extend battery life
This is an initial edition. I'm going to update and add more information here.
Original post - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1625299
I've worked on this part so long time since I've started using ICS ROM. I also tried almost every battery saver apps but didn't get any better result using my own method because sometimes there are lots of overheads using it (I'm trying to avoid describing any individual app's pros and cons in here and just provide you the better way to configure your phone).
The information in here is based on FF18 rooted stock rom/modem/kernel. But it's not limited to any specific phone or build. You could probably use it in any phones or builds.
1. Wifi
Some of you understand that wifi is faster than 3G and use less battery than 3G. You also say that 4G is the biggest monster consuming lots of battery. But that would be true and false.
Sometimes, wifi uses lots of battery to get the faster speed and keep the connection.
There could be multiple scenarios in here and below is based on my test -
Original post can be found in here
WIFI - I always turned on at home (because wifi is available) with 'never' option. In this case, 3G will cover the data communication if 3g turned on during the deep sleep. If wifi signal is so strong, even you don't need to turn on 3G and use the wifi during the sleep mode by changing the wifi option.
If you don't need the data communication during sleep mode, then turn off 3G and make wifi sleep (never) during the sleep mode. With this option, your battery could last about 2 hours per 1% drop.
3G - you need to compare between 3G and wifi. Which one is better and use less battery based on the signal strength.
For me, I'm using both 3G and wifi turned on. Using these two options turned on, I make the data communication available always and these two are compromising each other.
OK, here are some screenshots from 3.4M (check the original post link above). From 100% to 65%, I turned on 3G, so it covers the wifi when wifi sleeps during the deep sleep. From 65% to 45%, I turned off 3G, so during the deep sleep, both wifi and 3G were not available. When screen turned on wifi only came back (if you are not a heavy user, this method will save lots of battery).
Based on what I said, I've tested couple of things-
1. Battery life when wifi turned on 24x7
2. Battery life when 3G turned on 24x7
1. When wifi turned on 24x7 (turned on even screen is off), my phone shows that there were about 2.5% drop in every hour (100% > 73% about in 9.5 hours)
2. Wehn 3G turned on 24x7 (no wifi, no 4G), the battery consumption was much slower than wifi. (73% > 62% about in 14 hours). A little more than 1 hour per 1% drop.
Based on my test with minimum wifi, 3G usage, it shows that 3G saves a lot more battery during the standby mode. This result could be different based on your area and signal strength.
Now I showed many things related to wifi, 3G and how it affects the battery life.
Only one thing that I did not test is 4G. It's really hard to make a test using 4G inside of my office because I don't have 4G signal at all. What I can try is, 4G random reboot issue. I'll try to turn on 4G and see if it happens....
2. 3G
Keeping 3G turned on is a good habit. Because it covers wifi and 4G whenever those are not available. 3G uses battery a lot less than wifi and 4G (it could be different based on your signal strength)
Howto keep it on: setting -> more -> mobile networks -> check 3G DATA
Like I said before, if you have a reasonably good 3G signal, then you may want to turn off wifi and 4G to save the battery.
3. 4G
Just like wifi, minimize turning on 4G network. This use a lot of battery if you are in the bad reception area. If the signal strength is really good, then it would be probably ok keeping 4G turned on. In some cases, 4G would be the only solution to watch the movies, streaming videos when the wifi is not available.
Based on my limited test, using 4G in good reception area is much better than using wifi with low/weak signal.
4. Call option
Mark checkbox for Turn on proximity sensor for your convenience even there would be a little battery drain. But if you are a heavy talker, then I recommend to uncheck this option and use the power button to go back to control mode.
5. Sound
Lower the sound/vibration level within the acceptable range for you. There would be some differences on battery behavior by turning off or on of sound/vibration. But I don't want to recommend anything in here because I don't want you to lose any incoming calls/messages/etc.
6. Display
Automatic brightness should be fine in most cases. It's really related to screen on time battery consumption. I don't want to deal with this option at this time.
Pulse notification light, display battery percentage - turn it on or off based on your preference. Battery consumption by turning on these options would be minimal. I saw that some people said that they recommend to turning off the 'pulse notification light'. But I don't agree with that. One blinking LED light almost does not use any battery!
display timeout - I set it with highest value provided. After using the phone, I manually press the power button to go to sleep mode. With short timeout value, I have to keep press the button or screen to keep the screen on. I don't like this method.
Turn on 'Auto adjust screen power'.
7. Power saving mode
I always keep this option off because I do not want to lose anything because of low battery. I would rather change the numbers in my tweak (battery profile 2 in scaling tweak).
8. Account and sync
Most of time, I keep this option turned off. This would be one of the battery eating monster. I would rather individually sync the apps whenever I need it or from the actual apps.
9. Battery
when you charge the battery and phone shows that 100% charged, unplug the cable few seconds and plug-in again to charger. Repeat this couple of times and your battery would be really fully charged. Many times, even phone shows 100% charged, it could be the minimum 100% range. Actually, there's some voltage allowed and considered as 100% charge. But by maximizing the voltage during the charge, your battery life could be extended.
10. Motion
Turn off this option if you don't need this.
11. email
If possible, turn off the option that pushing email immediately. Instead, put the retrieval interval as long as you can. Based on my test, it could extend your battery life as maximum as couple of hours. In my case, I put the 2 hours interval. By doing this, your phone is much easier to enter the 'deep sleep' mode.
12. Startups
For me, I don't allow the apps automatically start during the boot as much as possible. If it's the system app and critical app for the phone's normal operation, then you have to allow those startups but otherwise, you can disable the startup apps based on your test.
For this, I usually use Rom Toolbox and/or System Tuner Pro. These apps allow us to enable or disable the startup apps.
For any apps like I don't use frequently or at all, I disable the apps from the 'event' (rom toolbox) or startups (system tuner pro). Once you disable the startups, you may need some test to see what happens when you manually launch the apps. If your app does not start normally, then go back and enable the event again.
There's also one more battery eating moster - widgets (currently doing some experimental test on it)
Regardless of widgets are in foreground screen or just stays in widgets folder, almost same amount of battery could be used by widgets to make it upto dated and refresh the connections, etc.
So, if you don't need the widget or don't use, go to (from Rom Toolbox) Auto Start Manager -> Applications -> select app you want to check -> it will show that widget updating is enabled or not. If it's enabled and you don't want it, just disable it. Then the app is not going to use that specific widget and actually widget will disappear from widgets folder.

It's not that the blink uses battery, it's that the blink causes your phone to wake up from its Deep Sleep and use the 200 MHz state of your processor. This wakelock takes away battery.
Thanks for the guide though. Looking forward to getting better battery life. I'm currently on CM9 though so I can't use your tweaks Just waiting for an AOKP build that switches /emmc and /sdcard back around to the way it should be

[Q] Phone Repaired, What Did They Do?

My S4 mini SGH-i257M was malfunctioning so i sent it in for repair. The local Rogers store sent it to FutureTel in Markham [Toronto] Ontario Canada. This is what they did, according to the Completion Report that came back with the phone ...
;RF Calibration performed to enhance RX/TX performance and network connectivity. Passed RF compliance test to meet manufacturer specifications. Adjusted battery level to optimize power usage.
It has been two weeks now and not only has it not malfunctioned, but the battery life is significantly improved - from 2 or 3 days of light use [usually just 2] to 5 days of light use.
What did they actually do? Does the recalibration affect hardware or software? Did they perhaps re-clock the CPU down to a slower speed? Any way to check this? What do they mean by adjusted battery level?
The phone is running KitKat 4.4.2, not rooted.
Thank you,
Mick
Here are three replies from other forums to this same question. Anyone here want to include an opinion? It would be most appreciated ...
The first part (RF calibration) means they adjusted the radio to improve reception and transmission(rx/tx), so your call/network/wifi reception will be better; the battery level adjustment implies they altered the voltage to improve battery life. In both cases it's more likely they replaced faulty parts with fully functioning ones. Good to see you finally got your issue solved Mick
It seems like what they did is install the OS from factory state and give u a new battery and maybe re clocked the CPU. Unfortunately they won't give you the proper information on what they did nor will u able to find it. There are some apps which tell u what system and software it uses but that's about it
All that I can tell you is RF stands for Radio Frequency. Apparently your cellular radio was tuned a bit off from whatever frequency(ies) your carrier uses. I wonder how they calibrate this.
Their statement "Adjusted battery level to optimize power usage" makes no sense to me. It's almost an oxymoron! But then, when signal level or reception of signal is poor, firmware detects this and gives the hardware an extra kick of battery juice. So maybe that's what they adjusted?
I'm really just guessing about RF calibration and battery adjustment. Hopefully somebody more knowledgeable will shed better light, especially regarding your questions about processor speed

I also would like to know what they did with 'improving radio frequency'. Got the same problem as you, and would like to check if it's possible to manually fix the radio/frequency-problem, cause the guys from the repairshop didn't fix anything for me..
Otherwise: is there an app that notifies me when network connection is lost ?
I found this one : (updated url) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cnigrini.networkmonitor that works well..i now see immediately when my phone loses network connection.
However, now i still have to manually reset it by turning on/off airplane mode. Is there a way / app that does these steps automatically ?
So notifies when network dorps, and then refreshes it..
That would be one way to solve the problem i think..
Your link is to an earthquake detection app ???
I'll post more info later or tomorrow.
I updated the url. It's this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cnigrini.networkmonitor
It notifies when network is lost. However it doesn't refresh the network unfortunately.
Well, it gets worse. The phone messed up today same as before. A bit more than two weeks after the "repair". I was at home in one of the strongest signal areas. Would not receive or make calls or use mobile data. So back to the Rogers store. By the time i got there it had started working again so i could not demonstrate the problem. Also used a lot of battery power today, about 40% with light usage compared to 15% or less per day for the past two weeks.
What the counter guy at the Rogers store said is that there is nothing wrong with the phone, that all cell phones do this, and that i should adjust my expectations.
Here's another ConnectionChecker app. This one attempts to reconnect ...

Anyone have seen another app for this that they like?

Hey Mdawdy, thanks for posting that one, when reading the descripting it seems like this one is doing both things: checking when connection is down, and when it is, puts the phone on/off airplane mode so that it reconnects again.
I will be testing this one for this time now..
It's probably true that all cell phones lose connection some times, for example when being in a place where connection is very low, but the problem with this Galaxy s4 mini is that it doesn't reconnect again when in an area where signal should be good...
Probably some software thing i think..
I'm still at 4.2.2 by the way.
Edit: found out that with a non-rooted device with android 4.2 or above, it's not possible for an app to toggle airplane mode on/off. So there are probably no (non-root) apps existing that will do this .
However a forum member made a tool that does this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/app-jelly-bean-4-x-airplane-mode-helper-t2385625

Very disapointing..

[Q] S4 mini GT-I9195 LTE - battery drain on constant LTE connection

Hello.
Well, so iv tried several things to improve my battery life on our sg4mini. My phone is rooted with custom kernel installed, running official rom. U can see my phone informations in screenshot attached. Im using greenify - the extended version with experimental functions. I hava also removed most of stock - non useful applications via uninstaller app (eg. samsung apps and other). Almost all my current apps r greenified, i left only Viber active cos im communicating through that app. I attached screens with my battery life from a normal-usage-day like: some internet browsing, 9gag and other social network apps. So the battery lasted 15 hours, with like 4h with screen on, so its not that bad i guess(i mean the screen time). Anyways, i got my gps, nfc, smart stay, s beam and other options turned off all the time. i only got data transfer turned on all day long, which means im mostly connected to LTE network. And that, i guess is the reason of such low battery capacity. I got the Vikinger kernel installed cos as i saw several posts about some error in stock samsung kernel i decided to flash some, which may help. SS from Wakelock detector attached aswell. I also installed CrossBreeder cos i found some good opinion about this and improovements it gives. But well, i guess iv done all i could to improve battery life. screen brightness is automatic at -5 status+ energy saving mode is turned on all the time. So i guess the only thing that drains battery that much is this LTE usage. the point is: i dont wanna turn the data transfer off in a daytime cos i constantly use viber to communicate. I was trying to find some app that switches LTE to gsm network but i havent found any proper. I guess that could be the solution because i could still respond to Viber messages with data transfer on, and the phone wouldnt eat so much battery on connecting to networks like LTE. Do you think that could help? if yes, is there any good application - widged preferable- so i can easly and fast switch LTE to GSM when i need to browse internet fast etc? Or maybe is there any better kernel which repairs battery problem.
As i said i dont wanna disable data transfer cos i need it, well, what for did i get such good phone if i cant use it in simple way w/o worrying about the battery?
Cheers
So as far i have checked several connection switching applications but couldnt find one that actually switches lte to gsm by pressing one button. All i had found were just shortcuts to the network options so to change my connection i had to do several actions. What im looking for is an app with trigger like button which will automatically switch between gsm and lte - switcher like the stock data transfer button for example. For now i installed Switch Network Type 3G/2G (screens attached) which gives me an extra button in slide bar but only leads me to options.

i didn't read all of your text because it's just too long for me. but if you want an advice for battery improvement, try setting cpu max frequency to 1000 or lower (at 1000 it's still not really laggy at messaging etc. but battery should improve) :fingers-crossed:
Well the post seems long cos iv really tried maaany things to improve batt life. I will give it a try with CPU settings tho. But still im seeking the real drainage problem so my question is: does network connection have such an influence on battery life? any advices, programs etc appreciated
If with LTE connection you reach at least 3 hours, everything is all right. Normally i can do at most 3 and half hours of screen with LTE.
