[Q] EStrong File Explorer stuffed up with root? - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Recently ES file explorer has stuffed up on me several times (see attached screen shot) -
basically it only happens when root access is granted - and will not allow me to browse any files anywhere on my phone ... all the files appear as in the screenshot and when i go into the folders they are empty - with no root access things work as normal
I have tried to uninstall / reinstall ES and reset the user data for SU but this hasnt fixed anything ...
I tried restoring a backup to the other day and it still happened in that ver
Any ideas?
Thanks
Kris

Root Explorer

Hi all I'm on a Sprint GNex and I notice when i delete files with Root Explorer they no longer show up within the App but I can still see them when I run through the USB on my Windows PC. They are not accessable however. Also Upon examining folders on my SD some do not show IE Goo Manager. I never had anything like this on my NS4G. Can anyone shed light on this.
I will also have similar issues when exploring and moving back-ups in Titanium Back-up.
i have the same issue, i think its something with MTP. if you restart the phone then the files should be gone

I couldnt believe i was the only one noticing this
Yes, it is related to mtp and how it refreshes. Trust what you see in root explorer or in adb, not in mtp.

I guess Root Explorer will mark file for deletion when you delete , after you reboot they will be deleted

No. It has to do with an MTP refresh issue. Root Explorer deletes the file and it is gone. However, MTP will still show as there until it refreshes.

Root Explorer Error

I just unlocked, rooted and restored all files in my nexus. I went into root Explorer to delete unwanted files and am getting a delete failed error every time I try to delete a file. Also my screen shots are no longer saving it says storage is in use. Anybody experience anything like this after rooting?

Are you trying to delete system files? Do you have SU installed? Are you clicking the R/W option. More details please.....
Several people have reported the issue with screen shot, to fix it they've had to rename the pictures folder(Seems like the folder is read only).
Swiftkey'ed on my CM9 Galaxy Nexus
No system files just old pictures, music files and other misc. It is set as r/w, also I am getting a few apps saying I need storage available that is writable. Something has to be up with the internal storage not allowing me to access or write to it.

Well I am able to take screen shots by renaming he folder. However, I am still unable to write anything to my sdcard or modify files through root Explorer or any other file manager app.

Root explorer - How to text edit
Hi All,
I have a problem with my root explorer. I am not able to open a file to edit. If i long press on a file , i dont get any option to open/edit the file.
i was supposed to edit gps.conf file under /system/etc but unable to do so from root explorer.
PS: i mount r/w from the root explorer every time i try..
Please help.
If you have any directories/files that you can't modify or delete, then boot into CWM recovery, plug in the USB cable, go into adb shell. Also make sure that /data is mounted in the CWM mounts menu. Then:
cd /data/media
chown -R media_rw.media_rw *
root explorer delete failed

i'm having this crazy "delete failed" error every time i try to delete any file in sdcart, external, and root directory (copy-paste, root, permissions works fine )
i tried to delete any remains of root explorer with es file explorer ((which works fine btw so its not a problem of partitions i think), re installed the program again but its the same . Flashed the rom from the beginning with a full wipe but its the same
this error happened first when i updated from blackmart alpha to some rootexplorer v.99. I uninstalled that but it left this error
Any idea what is causing that
I'm very curious and would appreciate it
thanks
I found a way to delete the files you suggest using Root Explorer. Go into /data/media/<navigate to the directory that you want to delete files>.. make sure the folder is mounted as r/w and delete the files you want to delete. This is how I bypassed the delete failed issue in Root Explorer...

Search the data folder in your root directory for some odex files associated to Boat Browser, you can do that in Root Explorer.

Can u fully explain this proses becuz I didnt find any odex files associated to boat browser and if found what to do.
You simply have to open Root Explorer, navigate to data folder in your ROOT directory (all the information about your installed apps is there, your app folders, dalvik and more...),
click menu->Search->type "odex" and wait for the results.

[Q] Can't rw on /system

I backed up and then deleted my play store using titanium backup but when I went to restore it it wouldn't let me. So I tried to move it to system/apps using a few file explorers like root explorer,Es explorer and super manager but non of them let me put system folder into rw mode , and yes I did give all of them root rights. I also tried to use the adb command on the terminal with su rights but that did nothing, does anyone have any advice besides reseting my phone.i am also running Jedi mind trick x3(i know I need to update)

In ES, you have to go to 'Root Explorer' under 'Tools', then 'Mount R/W', then use the radio buttons to give it write permissions (given that you have root already).

Exactly what I did ,i allows access to all the others and system but as soon as I press ok and go back to check the permissions again system is the only one that reverts back to read only

Change built-in file manager?

I would like to change default file manager but it seems that some links to it are hardcoded in LOS so for example if i uninstall it and replace it with fx file manager some
apps can't access it because they are calling to that default one which is not there anymore.
Any tips on how can i replace it, or where can i change those links to default app?
The default file manager that you were using has the package name "com.android.documentsui", and you generally see it when you have to choose a file for an app. Only here has it been turned into a full-fledged file manager. That was a system app that you weren't supposed to remove, so your only option is to install another file manager app alongside the default one.
Hi i'm with the same problem, i need a default file manger that can accese root so other app can get accese to root folder. Is there a way to resolve?
Here is how to replace the stock file explore with the root accessable one.
I'm gonna priovide the best filemanager fully featured, called mixplore, which i highly recommend. this file manager can access root directory.
watch Mixplore review from HERE
NB: make sure you have a root access
1. download Mixplore
2. install it on your device then open it
3. on the left then click on "root" then grant root permission when prompted
4. go into system/apps/documentUi OR system/apps/cmfilemanager
OR system/apps/files. If your on other roms apart from cynogenmod, lineageOs or RR-Os.. go into system/apps/filemanger
in case not found in app forlder try priv-app, i.e system/apps/..
NB: not "document" its "documentUi"
5. open the that last folder on the directory i.e file manager, swipe right and go into downloads copy the Mixplore.apk, then swipe left back into root/system/app/___ and paste the mixplore and delete the stock filemager from that folder
6. restart the phone.. now you have replaced the stock file explore from your android.
ppllzz help meee mi a1
i uninstalled the system file manager and now can't reinstall it and com.andeoid.documentsui keeps stopping and after installing app getting the problem files keeps stopping

This method creates problem when trying to access sd card or otg, mixplorer ,though fully featured, will also need permission from documentsui to access externals,it will show error "doesn't exist x
Best way is disable documents ui from showing icon in launcher
