We can easily add custom words in the T9 User Dictionary but there is no way to edit/delete them. Since English is not my main language, I have added lots of words already but some of them are wrong and I want to remove/edit them.
The three files can be found via sTune. Browser | User | T9udb | (xt9asdb.dat, xt9cdb.dat and xt9udb.dat)
If it is too much trouble to code a utility, maybe share some information on how the dictionary is structured so we can hex edit the mistakes out.
Thanks!
yeah...this would be really helpful....
Yes it would be very usefull also for backup before an hard reset!
Turns out that you don't need the T9 dictionary editor.
You just leave the wrong words in the dictionary and it will eventually get overwritten when you add more word.
If the wrong word is constantly appearing in the suggestion bar and is taking over a particular word like in my case the word "kay" ("because" in our dialect) and the phone always suggest "Kay" (name of person). All you have to do is enter "kay" several times and select the lower case "kay" until such time that it will be the default suggestion.
I wish they had this documented. I would have saved me needless frustration.

Does anybody know how to edit the word substitution list for SMS texting on the TMO-US branded TP2? I had a cooked Touch Flo Rom on my Wing that handled it beautifully, but the stock substitution on the TP2 only seems to automatically capitalize the first word and is missing a few things that I really got used to:
* "i" by itself got capitalized (even in the middle of a sentence)
* "dont" got its apostrophe along with "didnt", "wouldnt", etc.
* I can't swear to it, but I even think it managed some other contractions like "You've" and "You'll"
TIA
its because word completion doesn't work. search for word completion & you'll find countless threads on how to enable it again. Warning though, it will disable the functionality of FN+SYM to get the symbol menu
All the threads I found are talking about a T9 word completion, which I don't really care to use. I'm looking for an auto-correct functiont that automatically replaces "misspelled" words like "dont" with the correct spelling ("don't") after you hit the space bar. I don't like word completion, per se. I just use the auto-correct as a short cut so I don't have to "Alt-K" to get an apostrophe. Has anybody worked on this, or have I missed the thread that discusses it by not searching the right terms?
[Edit]
This is for use with the hardware keyboard, BTW
[\Edit]
If you set up the word completion like it says & then use Advanced Config to set the number of suggestions to 0 then all that will work is the auto correction
@xnifex,
Thanks, I had decided to take the plunge and do the reg hack like it said, and discovered exactly what you said I'd find. Thanks for being patient with my stubbornosity. Still no fix for the [Alt + ,] for the symbols, then? Granted, it's pretty well worth the trade-off for me, since I rarely go into the symbols menu, but I hate knowing that something's "broken", even if I don't use it much.
I have enabled the suggest words and set it at 4 via the registry with the changes in this, and other threads. This works great but I am missing something.
On my old Kaiser it would learn words that were used all the time. I have yet to see my TP2 suggest a word that does not seem to be in its dictionary.
Is it possible to enable it to learn frequently used words or add them to the dictionary as you can on your PC? It also does not autocorrect the small case i to I or add the apostrophe to contractions such as didn't.
Not earth shaking but pesky none the less.
Hi there,
I am so deeply searching a vocabulary trainer which is more or less fingerfriendly for my Touch HD.
It is unbelievable that there is no program like that available and I just need such a simple one:
I want to add "units", which store the vocabulary in German the foreign language. Then the program randomly chooses one of the words and shows the German translation and I, in my mind, think what it would be, and then I click "right" or "wrong" and go onto the next word. I don't even need a text insertion which must be compared...
Does anybody of you know such a program? Not finding this is for me now a reason to switch to Android, because in the market, they have such programs (vocablo). I would of course pay for it.
Thanks a lot!
I would love to program a thing like that. It would even be pretty easy (as far as i see it). The real problem however is creating the database for it.
I have bought the Japanese Trainer from SPB(?) of the store which isn't really great but it is okay-ish. One can even add a lot of words, although they probably didn't plan it that way, but one can simply add new folders and copy images and sound files into them to expand the library. However, if i knew Japanese well enough to create an extended database i would not need the app ... so the real problem in an app like this is always the database..
If you like you can give me an Excel-file with a hand full of words and i can set up a sample app. Unfortunately i will be away from the pc next week, but in the week after that i could give it a try...
please include at least:
Foreign Word, Native Word, Usage example, word class (I think one could then have a nice multiple choice mode, too)
Well, just checked SPBs app, but I would want a much easier program, no need for pictures, etc.
Frankly spoken, I tried to code it myself, but have the same problem with how to save the words. I thought of using a simple textfile, saving the words like that:
mothertongue#foreign language#box
Example:
Haus#house#1
Sommer#summer#3
Österreich#Austria#2
The box is the number of 5 boxes and the program needs to ask all words in the boxes 1 to 4. If I know the word, the number of the box is incremented as long as it is smaller than 5, if I don't know the word the number is decremented.
What is important to me, is that I can add new textfiles, which I then can edit, in order to add or delete words from that file.
Any other ideas?
I would also use a csv file:
word;translation;whatever
you could then easily manage your vocabulary list in excel and save it directly as csv again...
excelent program
Hello
Do you know Leitner system? Flash cards?
Read these two first!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leitner_system

Then download this Iranian software... { it is in English }
http://soheil86.50webs.com/Leitner Box/Leitner-Box.html
It is working based on Leitner system...
I have memorized 7k English word with it... Including GRE
Word list..... It is a very very great software
Let me know if you need any help!
Have a nice day
Thanks for the link.
But tell me, can I add units and new words in the program?
I need the program to add words when I am at university.
Did you open the link?
Pay attention to the note at the bottom of the page:
3. You can create data base with leitner box in your device, but if you like to create faster with PC, download data base editor.by editor you can convert your excel files to leitner box data base, and also you can exchange your target and source languages.
4. If you want to import data from excel data sheets, and you dont have excel 2007 installed in your system, download and install this file, first.

Tell me if you need help... I have a program to create database....
but I think you can find everything in that link...
Please update the keywords in this thread and add :Leitner box , flash card
Thank you in advanced
Ok, so I've searched the forums, and I've pretty much googled a lot of other sites, with no luck.
First, let me start of with the reason why; I want to remove a word from the original dictionary:
So I live in Norway, and the word for "you" is "du."
Since I use the trace option (swype) on the original keyboard,
I get either "DDI", or "di" which neither are words used in Norway.
I've understood that DDI is an abbreviation.
However, that doesn't change the fact that it's a pain,
that it next to always prioritizes those in front of "du,"
even when they keyboard is set to Norwegian.
Also I've checked my personal dictionary as well,
it isn't there. Also not to mention it's been there from the start....
So any tips on how to remove ONE and ONE word from the original dictionary?
Because I want to keep my personal dictionary, as I've used quite a bit time to add the words.
(I know I can back it up, but what does it help to remove the words and add them again if it's the wrong words?)
I am pretty sure I haven't lost it and my memory is tricking me, but before some update or another if you were entering text in almost any app (SMS most notably) and got to the end of the piece of text and saw that word correction had put in a word you didn't want you could click on the word and the word prediction list would appear again and a simple click to change to another word???
I am not 100% sure when this functionality disappeared, must be at least 6 months ago. I thought it was just some glitch and was expecting it to return when resetting. Just did a reset (Android 5.0.1) and still nothing happens.
Drives me crazy, have to place the cursor after the word, delete it and re-type. It was so sweet before.
Please let me know if I am wrong - and if not is there any way to get this functionality back.

Try this! open messages, new message, to the left of the space bar hold comma, go to advanced and tick word prediction and next word prediction!

Appreciate your help. I think I have tried turning on and off every setting I can find related to word prediction/correction. nothing seems to help.
So do you have a M8 with 5.0.1 that does as I describe? I would really like to know if it is just my phone. Fixing it if it is must then be possible. If I imagined it, well then I can forget about it and seek other help

Hi, julesgilson...
My M8 is currently running Android 5.0.1/Sense 6, and although I don't use the stock HTC Sense keyboard, preferring instead to use Fleksy, I have noticed this annoying peculiarity with the Sense keyboard myself.
Here are some further observations...
With the stock Sense keyboard, a word is only correctable (with selectable alternatives) only as long as the word being typed remains HIGHLIGHTED. As soon as you hit the space bar, with the intention to type the next word, the HIGHLIGHT is gone, and the original word can no longer be corrected or alternatives suggested.
The HIGHLIGHT then shifts to the next word being typed, and with possible corrections and alternative suggestions for this new word.
Tracking back over a given paragraph (or even to just the last word) and manually highlighting a previously typed word, doesn't, as you might expect, provide any alternatives or spelling corrections.
-----
This behaviour is entirely at odds with 3rd party keyboards like SwiftKey, Swype and even Googles own keyboard, where ANY word in a given paragraph can be selected and corrections/alternatives suggested.
The stock Sense 6 keyboard under Lollipop 5.0.1 seems incapable of retrospectively correcting previously typed words!!!
I'm no programmer, but it seems to me, that the stock Sense keyboard is only capable of correcting a word while it remains in the 'buffer'... that is to say, while it's being typed and so long as it's highlighted.
The instant you move on to the next word (with the space bar), the word is 'forgotten' by the keyboard and can no longer be corrected or alternatives suggested.
-----
This sort of thing is difficult to describe, so I suggest you download Googles keyboard from PlayStore... type some random passage in Google Keep (or wherever) and then using Googles keyboard, randomly select a word in that passage and you will see that Googles keyboard correctly identifies the selected word, and suggests alternatives.
And then try the same experiment with the stock Sense keyboard...
Rgrds,
Ged.
Yes! That's exactly it - like you say pretty difficult to describe concisely. The strange thing is that it used to do it, possibly before Lollipop.
Now that someone else has confirmed it seems a general issue with the HTC keyboard I will give up trying to fix it and look for another keyboard.
Greatly appreciated.
