After doing a little research I have come across several articles stating the Gingerbread launcher from Modoco can run alongside OR instead of Sense. This goes against everything Ive ever read regarding Sense and launcher replacements but again, I did read this on a few different Android blogs. So if its possible does anyone have instructions ??

I would say just install it. Then go to settings, manage apps, find sense and clear defaults. Then hit the home button and select the gb launcher as your default. Im actually running a gb rom so I haven't tested it but I would assume it would work just like launcher pro or adw.

I know it will work as a replacement. The way the sites are explaining it though is that the launcher and Sense can co exist. I don't believe this is the case but I've come across it on at least 3 different blogs.

Hi there!
I've written a FAQ with Android tips & tricks and tweaks that I try to keep updated, and when I made an attempt to turn off HTC Sense on my Desire the other day in order to get the default Android homescreen, the old method didn't work.
Clearing the defaults for HTC Sense had no effect, and Home wasn't even listed in the application manager.
Is there another way? Perhaps Sense on Android 2.1 devices goes so deep that there isn't even a vanilla Android below it anymore?
Thanks
When you say "no longer possible" are you saying you were able to do this before? From what I know Launcher2, the default 2.1 app launcher, is not installed so you have to find the apk somewhere and install that first.
When the reviewers were first getting hold of Desire's I think there was a video of someone turning off Sense and running stock Android. It was a really simple process too, from what I remember.
When the phone was officially released people noticed you couldn't do this any more.
I think that's what the OP is referring to.
HTC removed the standard Home before they shipped the Desire, so it's never been possible on post-release handsets. It was an option on pre-release phones, though, so people got videos out showing how to do it, and then no dice...
You can install HelixLauncher 2 or 1, which will give you similar homes. I'm not sure if the regular Launcher2.apk will install - I seem to remember trying it and failing. Don't recall for sure, though.
not again lol....well this has been discussed before again and again, the retail version's sense ui cannot be turned off...
Well, it can if you install a different home replacement and clear Sense's defaults.
You can install Launcher2.apk you should be able to find it in some other threads
(use the search?). I had no problems installing it.
Then do the 'clear defaults' setting on the Sense UI application, press 'home' and it will ask you which home screen you want to use.
Better still, install the Helix Launcher 2 from the Market. I prefer it because of the ability to insert 4 static shortcuts alongside the menu button where the space was just previously wasted.
I've been clicking around all morning trying to figure this out with no luck. I've found a few threads, but they either say to look where I've looked or lack answers altogether.
So. New Droid Incredible II. Not rooted. Running regular ol' sense. I had LauncherPro on my moto Droid, but I want to use the HTC widgets.
I've tried 5 different skins, all for 2.1 sense. I've tried pulling them from my computer to the sd card and downloading directly from the XDA app on the phone. In either case I can easily install them following download.
After installing, they're supposed to pop up under skins in the personalize menu, right? Nothing's showing up there, or anywhere else I've thought to look in that menu. What am I doing wrong?
Look HERE These are updated skins to work with you current setup.
i have had a similar problem and even after installing skins from that forum i have only gotten 4 really rough skins actually to work, i wish i could make them specifically for the DInc2

I have considered making some skins. Mainly to refresh some themes that have been abandoned from my days on the Inc1.
I am using the Galaxy Nexus on ICS and like my phones before i like to be able to customize the screen using Launcher Pro and Go Launcher EX, however i have found that after a while of using these apps they seem to stop the messaging app from launching and i just get a black screen. Sometimes this clears after pressing the messaging link about 15-20 times.
If i uninstall these apps then i never have an issue with it. I have emailed both developers and had no reply.
Anyone else experienced this?
Those launchers are not updated so you shouldn't use them until they are.
Yes, I get exactly the same problem with the exact same apps!
PLEASE read the stickies in the forum before you post it clearly states that questions belong in the Q&A Forum and not in General..
As for your question install the newset ADWLauncher EX v1.3.3.55 its now fully compatable with ICS and makes everything soo much more useable than the stock launcher.
Mark.
Go Launcher works fine for me.
Personally ive never liked adw which is why i use launcher pro but i might give the new version a try. I cant wait til the manufacturers rollout ics cos theres a few apps i use that dont work properly yet.
As for the issue personally i have found that on launcher pro and go launcher that this black screen only happens when i exit the messaging app using the back key, if i exit using the home button it never happens.
Hope this helps cnxop.
So my Gnex arrived from Google last night, and I am in the process of setting it up. However three things immediately jumped out at me that I was hoping to get clarification on. First, when I long press the screen I am not shown the option for widgets. All it shows me is wallpaper options which I found weird since obviously Android is big on widgets. Is it supposed to be like this, or am I missing a setting somewhere? Second, for the life of me I can not find the settings for the default launcher. I would like to add some new icons but I am unable to do so. Lastly, all the other icons can be long pressed and then removed, with the exception of the Google search bar at the top. In all previous Android phones I was able to add or delete anything from the home screen, again, am I missing something or is this a "feature"??
open the app drawer ad you can drag icons and widgets to the screens.
to remove the pesky search bar (a "feature"!) you need a 3rd party launcher such as Apex or Nova, from the play store (the free versions are fine)
Widgets are now under a tab in the app draw.
I believe you can remove the Google search bar by selecting a different search provider in the settings list.
As far as launcher settings I think u need a custom rom to do that.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
1) They are located in your app drawer, Right at the end after your Apps
2) Think this is located in the settings menu, but is Limited. Been so long since i was on stock
3) It can be removed IIRC, but the space is not useable.
All in all, You might want to look at an alternative launcher like Apex or Nova, All are close to stock but with a wealth of features

I used Apex on my previous device and I will likely use it again, but my question is are the things I mentioned supposed to be happening with the stock setup?
Yes

I guess its back to Apex for me. I was kind of hoping the "pure" Google experience would be a little better, but I guess you still need to tweak things.

My wife just got the GN two days ago, upgrading from a Droid Inc running Stock+ rom. I actually like the new features of ICS. Seems very different coming from Sense, two versions old. I'm not using an Android device, but if I were, the GN would almost definitely be my pick right now.

Sense is terrible and I will never again purchase a device with that abomination installed on it! I had sense on my Sensation (previous phone) and then I rooted it, killed sense, and was running an AOSP ROM for the past few months.
Remove search bar:
Menu > Settings > Apps > All > Scroll down to google search bar (believe thats what it says) > disable.
Gone.

I actually like Sense and would not have objected if my wife insisted on the Rezound or the upcoming Inc 4G. It does have some very useful widgets and is pretty slick looking. Doesn't matter anyhow, I'm not on Android and wife loves her new GN. Hopefully she'll get the 4.0.4 update today or at least this week to iron out some of the small annoyances.
Thought I throw out this question as see if someone knows the rational behind this.
Why does Sense only have 7 screen when all other launchers have 9? Any idea how HTC thought there? (or if they?)
/Abs
Stock android has 5 and touchwiz has 7...

You clearly haven't checked before making this thread.
7 screens is more than enough. I rarely use more than 3 anyway.

Maybe 7 screen is enough for you, but not for me. Most of the non-sense launchers use 9 and it's not the
question on what is enough but if anybody know why it's 7 when "MOST" launchers have 9.
Apex/Nova/Go/Next/ss etc
And as a note. I have one screen for my month view in calendar and another half for my agenda and then one
screen for the todo-list. If you count your homescreen where you have your clock you are already using more then
half. If you then want some widget for something else, like Pubmed or Medicalcs 7 screen isn't THAT much. I'm having
problems to get into place with 9...

All the launchers you mention there are downloadable extras. I don't think 9 is that common on stock devices (correct me if I am wrong).
I didn't mean to come across as rude btw (rereading my reply I think it sounded a be blunt). Each to their own I guess. I used to try to fill all my homescreens but now I use 4 at the most and just dip into the app draw when needed. I'm in the process of setting up my screens again after some flashing and redoing Apex. Down to three now and they're not full.
Why not just switch to Apex or Nova or something? I think they are better than Sense launcher anyway (that's why I have removed it from my phone)

Well, it was a bit blunt but forgotten
Well, I've used the Go Launcher EX for a while, but then I went back to Sense after the big release of the Viper-rom but
I'll guess I have to go back to someone else. I never got friends with neither Apex/Nova for instance. Don't know why
they are so glorified? Go is a great launcher but they start to be intrusive with this buy our awesome themes and I prefere
a really clean look and then have the apps that I use right under my nose. Have enough drawers as it is. Sometimes a
widget is a nice thing especially when it comes to calendars etc.
I wanted to give Sense a shot again but of course, this question came up. Then of course next question is why just 9?
Maybe I'll go with a non-sense rom again or "desense" the current one.
Peace!
