Hey guys/gals,
I have facebook on the Evo and the Sync Contact menu/button is missing. I really do not know where to go from here. Any help?
delete the facebook account and then uninstall all updates and clear data through manage applications (a little extra to do but just to make sure) then reinstall the facebook app and under sync add an account under facebook for htc sense..
not facebook..
make sure its the htc sense facebook.
that happened to meit wouldnt sync.. so maybe itll work for you.
: (
I already did that, and still no "Sync Contact" button. its so weird...I dunno thanks for the reply though.
Anybody else have suggestions?

ummm... try reflashing it??
its not in the facebook app. go to settings, accounts and sync, and hit add account. should be self explanitory from here.
then go to the contacts (people) app, hit menu, view, and check facebook for htc sense.
do the dance.

Hi,
I've got an issue, not a massive one but it bugs me nonetheless.
Currently, when I tap the Phone button from the home screen it brings up a list which shows my recent call list, if I scroll down I get a long list of all my contacts. The thing I find annoying is that the long list includes all of my Facebook "friends" that have a telephone number listed.
What I would like is for this list to only contain my contacts (copied over from my SIM), and for the ones that are linked to a Facebook account, to have their status etc updated. I do not want my random Facebook "friends" to be in the list.
The most recent thing I've done to try and solve this issue is to go into the Facebook app on the phone and change the 'Sync Contacts' settings (Menu-> Settings) to 'Don't sync'. I then went into (phone) Settings-> Applications-> Manage Applications-> All (tab)-> Contacts storage-> Clear Data. I then copied my contacts back over from the SIM. (I've also tried the 'Sync with existing contacts' option as well)
All was well for a while, my contacts linked up again and I got facebook details for my contacts when calling them. However I noticed to my annoyance that my Phone list now contains my facebook contacts again!
I notice under Settings->Accounts and Sync I have two (removable) Facebook accounts, one is Facebook, the other is Facebook for HTC Sense. Does anyone know if it would help to remove either of these accounts?
Can anyone help me find a way to solve this issue (preferably without extra software or going through the People menu)?
Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks,
Grim.
I just fixed this myself.
I think it's something to do with how HTC Facebook interacts with official Facebook. If I turned of syncing on both (but left contact sync disabled in both) I'd still get contacts in Phone (and also in suggestions in sms app). If I removed both, then added Facebook official only I'd still get them.
In the end, opening up Facebook on my PC and going into privacy then apps and disabling Facebook for HTC Sense seemed to solve it to me. I could then use the official Facebook app without getting all these contacts I'd never use.
I didn't care about getting contact pictures and stuff so I never tried letting official Facebook sync with existing contacts only, but it might work properly.
Hope this helps, completely unscientific but it seemed to for me!

Hi JBrizz thanks for your reply.
I didn't think of logging into the facebook website to disable anything. I'll give that a try.
In the meantime I've fiddled about with the accounts in 'Accounts and Sync'. I've tried deleting both the Facebook and Facebook for HTC Sense accounts.
After deleting both I went into the Facebook app and signed in, which recreates the account in Accounts and Sync. I set the sync options in the app to not sync any contacts. I waited around for a while and no extra contacts (from Facebook) appeared in my Phone list.
I then went into the Facebook app and changed the sync settings to 'sync with existing contacts' - which I assumed should only sync the data for the people currently in my phone book? Anyway after a few minutes I checked an all of my Facebook friends were now in my Phone list AGAIN
I started from fresh again and tried a similar thing with the other Facebook for HTC Sense account - I had to recreate this in the Accounts and Sync settings screen.
Again after a few minutes all my Facebook friends where there on my Phone list
Maybe this functionality isn't available with this phone / app?
Anyone else have any ideas?
It is a google problem, not a HTC problem.
The HTC app is doing what it should be doing. If you go to the people app, click on your contact (far left) and then menu -> view you can see the facebook option is unchecked.
However the Phone dialer (google product) just syncs everything.
There is a issue no for this, 10618 @
code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=10618&can=5&colspec=ID%20Type%20Status%20Owner%20Summary%20Stars
(unfortunately I can't post links as I am a newbie!!)
Best thing to do is you guys reply and make this defect more and more noticeable.
I've posted on the google issue site, cheers for the link!
This is so annoying!!! I logged into the facebook app on my evo and now when I try to open my contacts, they're bogged with all these contacts from facebook. IS there a way to remove them without logging out of your facebook?
Please Help!

Yea go to people hit menu view and then uncheck facebook. Lol that happened to me when I first synced fb I have 4998 friends imagine that lol
if you want to remove them totally, not just hide them do this:
Set Facebook to NOT import your contacts, go to applications, manage applications, all. then scroll down untill you see contact storage, then clear cache and wipe data. this will clear EVERY contact on your phone, then back out of that and go to accounts and sync then make sure your google acct is syncing and it will reload all of your google contacts. Presto no more FB contacts.
WARNING, this will erase ALL of your contacts, so you WILL lose everything that is in Phone also, so make sure all your contacts are backed up to google or a vcf.
Ok sorry but somebody would wipe everything without being backed up to google ...
Course if you just want to hide em, what nuggy said.
I have a new facebook contact I want to link to their number. Their name never shows up in facebook. Tried syncing facebook contacts and still nothing. Myns warm two point two. Thanks in advance.

Let me ask you something, did the other contacts that you had sync just fine? I also want to ask if you know that you might just syncing with YOUR phone contacts, there's an option there to sync all or just sync your phone contacts. If you sync all then it should bring this new facebook contact into your phone app but if you just sync with your phone contacts then whatever you inputed yourself is going to replace the picture and add their email/facebook profile....nothing more, nothing less.
Try this....uninstall your facebook app by either going into your settings/applications and doing it that way or if is installed in your system/app directory then use root explorer and delete the entire app that way. REBOOT....then go into the market, download facebook once again. Now go to settings/accounts & sync and make sure you got your settings to syncing automatically.........NOW, go and open your facebook app and make sure when you log in that you click sync all or whatever is called...don't have my phone next to me so I'm going off of memory here..lol....Now wait a couple of seconds while your phone syncs and your new facebook buddy should be in your phone app.
Hope this has help, if it did then hit the THANKS button if it didn't....at least I tried! GOOD LUCK!!!
I uninstalled htc facebook and after a reboot and redownloading facebook I cannot add an account again. I think I did something wrong. Can I get htc facebook back?

I fixed it. I had to reflash the rom but it's well now.

Hi, with my stock ROM i was able to synchronize contacts from Facebook. I moved to GigenVillain and I'm not able to do this anymore. Is it because of non-Sense ROM ? Do you think it will come anytime soon ?
Thanks
No it's just you. Sense masked it more easy, for noobs basically whereas native Android is more advanced shall we say.
Anyway, to sync contacts install the Facebook app and sign into the app. When it asks you to sync pick an option and it will sync your contacts just fine. If it doesn't sync to a contact, edit the contact your want then press menu, join and select a Facebook contact so it can join with your regular contacts.
Its just more or less the same as sense but like I said, sense is designed for noobs.

I tried this but facebook doesnt even sync the contacts to my phone.
i had this problem when making my own rom. i found if i left facebook app in the rom, i could add it to the sync menu. if i removed it, then when in the sync menu, i would press facebook but nothing would happen and it wouldnt appear in the contacts either.
hope this helps
Well if Facebook isn't syncing then it's a problem with either Facebook or your phone or something not contacting Facebook. Something along those lines. Just uninstall it then install it again but wipe the data in Settings > Applications first. See if that works. If not then go to Settings > Accounts and Sync and see if you can do anything in there once Facebook is installed.
Is there a way to have Facebook for HTC Sense without it syncing with all of your contacts...or even getting them to shop up on your phone at all. I like the friendstream widget and some of the other features, but I hate seeing crappy profile pics when i text/call people and all my facebook contacts in my dialer.
Please help.
Thanks!

If you go into Menu/settings/account sync you can go into the Facebook sync portion and uncheck to have it sync with you contacts.
I guess i should have stated that in my question... I have done that a million times and they still connect...ITS SO ANNOYING!
you could uninstall it using titanium backup i did that with all the social networking ****... friend stream included peep all are gone from my incredible...
But you want to have it... did you try using the one on the market?
When you're in Contacts, if you go to the "View" menu, you can configure what's shown, maybe you're getting some multiples from there. I find it's annoying too that all my auto-added GMail contacts show up when I'm trying to dial.
