I know that the General forum would be more appropriate, but I'm opening here because it's more a question that a developer could answer.
I tried to find Rocket Bunnies in the Market, a game that I had downloaded some days before in a HTC Desire, but I couldn't find it. Luckily, it's a free game and the developer provides APKs for these cases. I installed the APK and the game worked great, good performance, no bugs, no FCs, everyting perfect.
I contacted the author about this, and he explained that it was Google/Motorola's fault because the Defy was very new and the specs of this model weren't updated yet on the side of Google.
I looked in the AndroidManifest.xml of the game, and it says it requires OpenGL ES 2.0. According to this, the Defy has OpenGL ES 1.0 and 2.0 support.
Why is this happening? And what's more important: what can we do as users to solve it?
PS: I can't find Google Earth either. Could this be the reason too?

Like a lot of people on this board i got my T-mobile Desire delivered this morning. I started downloading all my apps from the market place, and noticed some are missing. It's not just paid apps, but free ones as well. Has anyone else noticed this?
I can't find:
Record It (paid)
Battle for Mars (paid)
Tapatalk (paid or free)
and others. Can anyone else see these in the market?
I'm also noticing this but i thought it was just paid apps. Can't find abduction or what the doodle. There's also no top paid option when going through the categories
I'm not at home, typing this from the desire. Might be a good idea to try and install another version of market.apk
It just might be that these applications aren't compatible with Android 2.1 targets.
I don't think it's a compatibility issue. Why would they disable paid apps tab then? There's something fishy going on.
I can't find half of my apps, even the one I've paid for while on G1!

Those 3 apps you listed are missing from my market place but I still have the 'Top Paid' tab, I don't know why you are missing that but the applications are probably due to compatibility.
I've had this problem before on my hero with some custom roms, never found a way to fix it.
And if i remember correctly when the hero was first launched some people on orange or t-mobile where having problems with missing market apps.
National Rail for UK train enquiries is missing from the market too
I have removed content lock from my t-mobile account and now I get all tabs in the market. But I still can't see certain apps.
Something strange or I am having yet another senior moment.
I went in to Manage my applications and in there is Ringtone Trimmer, I thought I would make me some ringtones, looked for it in programmes and it is not there. I then thought it must be in Marketplace but alas no!! How can I have an application in Manage my applications and yet not have the application????

Go to the music app, play a song and then try to set it as a ringtone, it will give you the trimming options.
Klaxon is version 427 from the market on my G1, but a much older 310 for the desire....
Im finding this on a few different apps and am not sure why...
I think we have run into this problem before. If I remember rightly (please feel free to correct me if not) it has to do with Google not recognising the phone correctly when you access the store. I believe this is a server sided fix that Google have to do.
Like I said, correct me if I am wrong.
I contacted T Mobile about the issue and they said google approved the rom so the issue must be with the apps / developers.
Great load of help that is. ffs!

I noticed the same, can however install it from here: nationalrail . ktbm . com
For non-paid apps its not such a difficulty getting them from elsewhere, and installing via Astro or ADB, but for PAID apps(like klaxon) to be left with an old version - or unable to install at all - its a real pain.
Seems to be a known issue, look at the android marketplace support forum of Google, they are talking about it.
google.com/support/forum/p/Android%20Market/
looks like it will just take time for Google to register the 'fingerprint' of the Desire ROM before we get full access then.....
What a nonsense way to run the Market!
To be fair guys, the Desire isn't even supposed to be released yet.
Wait until it is officially released and if there are still market problems, then you can complain.

Define 'Officially' - Its available via a reputable company (TMO) and as such should be supported 100%
HTC/TMO and GOOGLE should have had this sorted before it was sent out to customers.
Hi
I can't find RockPlayer on the android market does anyone know what happened to it ?
Me neither
PM me if you need a copy
it looks like they took it down a little while back?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=704261
You can get it from here.
You can also look for arcMedia in the Market, which also plays DivX files - it's not as good quality as RockPlayer IMHO, but it is good enough.

Dave

That's very old - pre-Market release. It does seem that it has been pulled from the Market now though.
Regards,
Dave
Thanks for the feedback guys but does anyone know why it was pulled from the market ?
google pulled every version apart from the ARMv6 version, i assume the dev pulled that version out of protest or somthing
AFAIK google classed the app as Warez as they did not have a licence to run the codecs it was running (or something like that). This is why its no longer in the market, and it may not make a return.
All versions have now been pulled from the market.
See this is what pisses me off about android, alot of people moan about supporting developers, well i supported RockPlayer by purchasing the full version for £10 now there no longer in the market, so i got a free app, paid extra money to support a developer i thought was actually worth investing in and now they've gone from the market, if it was there choice or googles ive had no information or comunication from RockPlayer on how or if there will be any updates from this point on or have i just given them £10 for nothing. I paid for the full Arm 7 version even though i have found a cracked version that gives the full version with the validate option removed and all the paid features added, but still thought they were worth supporting.
I hope im wrong & rockplayer will someday return, but stuff like this makes me think i should just use illegally obtained apps instead of throwing money down the drain.

We are returned as a unified package, thus users need not worry about CPU model things, please search RockPlayer now in Market. And it is always available on our website anplayer.com .
Would you please share me any original words or info from Google side? Indeed they didn't gave email notification or any explanation, even we complained through Market support page. We guess it is because our app cannot run on all CPU, there are so many video players using FFmpeg, but seems we are only one distinct CPU for performance.
Hello,
I found a few similar posts relating to this issue, but were all from over a year ago, and didn't want to restart a dead topic.
I live in Australia, and I would like to install Onlive Desktop to run macros within excel.
The first issue was with past editions, screen density would need to be changed to run the app, whereas, according to the change log, the newest version, 2.1, "Removed the screen size check within the app". Therefore I assume it should run natively on my S3.
The only problem is all the APKs in the forums, and on other sites only have an outdated version.
Can somebody please upload the newest APK if Onlive Desktop so that myself, and others like me can install the newest version?
Any assistance you can offer is much appreciated.
Sincere regards,
Ryan Carmichael
I am quite positive I have posted to the wrong forum. My question has nothing to do with rooting nor side-loading or any of the other wonderful things you are doing here. The problem is, I don't know where else to ask my question and after reading the community guidelines:
XDA-Developers was founded on the simple principle that *sharing is good* and when many people share what they know, everyone benefits. We exist upon this ethos. We respect each other, we share with each other, we do not judge one another, and we help all who ask.
I figured this was probably the best place to ask.
I have created a tool that monitors which apps are officially available for the FireTV. It tells me as soon as something new lands, if something goes on sale, etc. The problem is - sometimes apps that were available disappear.
For instance - Redux TV (ASIN=B00H8X82AC) It was there for a couple of weeks and this morning, it appears to have disappeared completely from the app store (not just FireTV apps). Did anyone have this installed - does it still work - should I continue to list this as a compatible app?
Some of the items that have disappeared are still available on the app store but not Fire TV such as Twitch (ASIN=B007SOQBCM) and Infinite OverDrive (ASIN=B00K32M1TS). Others were flagged/banned such as VeneziaTestApp CIC Sayak June 14 DeviceLaunch Malware Flagged 001 (ASIN=B00L4VKLBM).
Here is one more for safe measure - TubeMusic - Play Billboard top songs on your TV (ASIN=B00KJW667A)
My problem is I don't know if I should continue to list the apps or remove them from my tool since I don't know what happens to them after they are no longer available from the app store (I didn't happen to install any of these apps). Has anyone here installed any of these apps through the app store (not side-loaded) and can tell me if they still function on the FireTV?
Thanks!
Hi,
Is there a way to tell if a play store app is native to Android TV?
In addition to the great list posted in the forum.
Otherwise you can confirm if the emulator MD.EMU (payment) and My Oldboy! (payment).
Or Is File Explorer Manager PRO (paid) supported? The free is but I have read that it is not the case of the payment.
Thank you!
Android TV devices are certified devices that come with a special version of play store, that only work in android tv devices.
If the apps you mention are found there it means they are compatible.
There are apps that work and support both handheld and tv modes, but there are others that only have leanback code in them and the rest are handheld only which dont have the leanback interface.
If you cant find those apps in official play store for Android TV you can sideload them or install a 3rth party market app to download them, but the apps may or may not work properly due to the lack of some permissions in Android TV OS, and also if the apps are not properly updated to work in nougat in first place.
You also have another alternative to Android TV , check my signature.

Not so sure about the Oldboy App, as I have not heard of it. But, there are plenty of pay for Emus, including MD.EMU if that's your thing. The only pay for Emu I personally went for was the Real3DOPlayer, and that was only 'Cause I couldn't get it to work under RetroArch. Which is really, the only Emulator you'd ever need.
Besides, ouYabuse (Saturn), or Dolphin (GameCube, Wii), alas that Emu still needs some Work though.
But, on the whole of it as far as Emulation goes, as long as you keep it realistic. (e.g. pre-PS2 epoch), the sky is pretty much have the limit. Granted RetoArch is great for about 90-ish% of your needs. Otherwise there are plenty of bespoke paid apps to cover the last 10%, or so.
As someone who has ES File Explorer Pro. It's a funny case. It seems that the TV App Store has a major hardon for the Malware version of this, and not the Pro. So its very hard to get it to find it. I generally tend to just sideload the off an SD Card. Which isn't a problem as it's licenced to my account, and it works just fine with the Remote.

Thanks for the reply.
My OldBoy It is an emulator for GB / GBC that at least normal Android is going great.
I was wondering if anyone had been able to look at it, since I do not have a Shield by hand, I would arrive in a week.
And regarding the File Explorer PRO I found it curious to read in the forum Geforce that only supported the version with malware and instead the payment was not.

Yeah I kinda gathered that Oldboy, might have had something to do with the Gameboy etc... Alas pretty much anything pre-NDS-3D, is so well covered under RetroArch. I never saw much use in it. It's the stuff that should work under RetroArch... e.g. 3DO, and Saturn emulation, which don't under the Shield TV. That has driven me to support the pay for options.
I think the difference between the free, and the Pro version of ES-FE Pro. Is that the Pro version does not automatically pop into the AndroidTV PlayStore. In fact before you even go any further. Let us be very clear on this one point.
AndroidTV (PlayStore), ≠ Android (PlayStore). Blame Google! Because of that it's like >90% emptier than ye old Phablet Edition. This is due to those Apps being built with Phablets (i.e Touch), in mind. AndroidTV has made all touchy-feelly Apps VERBOTEN on the AndroidTV platform. Such as they no longer show up.
So I suspect that's kinda what's going on with ES-FE where the Developer never flagged it as compatible with AndroidTV. Leaving the ever Ad spewing (and perpetually Money maker) on the PlayStore. 'Cause they've already had my Money for Pro, for nearly Two Years now, and I'm not about to fund 'em some more. Probably answers why Google aren't including it in the ATV-PS.
It's like most of the Amazon Underground stuff. You can sideload that as well, and install a few Games. But, outside of the Goat Sims, Alto, and Riptide GT. A lot of those Games don't work correctly with the Shield Controller either. Best example, would be Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.
So if you have that One app you just have to test it out by sideloading it first.
P.s. I'm starting to suspect that your "My Old Boy" App might be one of these Apps. As it is not showing up inside the ATV-PS. It seems to prefer Robert Broglia's Emulators instead. Now that may be 'cause he went back and compiled a specific ATV version of them. You might want to contact the Dev of My Old Boy, and request an AndroidTV version, which you can install off the PlayStore. Or, you can copy the *.apk off of your Phablet, and transfer it to the Shield TV. In which case you will also need to install something called Sideload Launcher. As most Sideloaded Apps do NOT tend to be displayed under Leanback Launcher.
I also have ex file explorer pro, but I found "xplorer" are easier to use with remote on Android TV, give it a try.
