Heres the instructions from the Gingervillian OP,
1. Download ClockworkMod 3.0 from here
2. Boot the phone into Fastboot mode by holding Volume Down and pressing power
3. From terminal/command prompt, type:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
And if you dont understand them then you might want to reconsider if you should be flashing it untill you do.

Flash the rom via 2.5X cwm(the one you currnetly use)once you have gingervillian install boot the phone the go into terminal emulator and type:
#flash_image recovery /sdcard/cwm3vision.img (or what ever yours is named) hit enter.
Then to flash gapps with cwm3 recovery you'll have to mount /system and mount /data via the new recovery..
That's how I do it a bit unconventional but it works every time..

This is not correct, Clockworkmod Recovery 3.0.0 is not avalible on "ROM Manager" the current recovery on Rom Manager for HTC Vision is v2.5.1.3.
If you want ClockWorkMod Recovery 3.0.0 you must download it from the Gingervillian OP, and some other Gingerbread threads have the link to the download also.
Rom Manager v3.0.0.2 and ClockWorkMod Recovery 3.0.0 for Gingerbread are two diffrent things.

Try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10256235&postcount=169
Fastboot flash image only works if you have the
"eng hboot" engineering HBOOT (bootloader) installed/flashed to your phone.

Thing is, he quite obviously read the install instructions (at least somewhere) to know that you need CWM 3.0.xx. If he'd looked in the very thread for help if didn't understand, there would be a ton of help. It's simply laziness. There are step by step directions, even in the op (though not the most n00b friendly, but definitely within the thread.. ALL of the cm7 threads, lol), so short of physically doing it for him, there is nothing more that can be done. It's sheer laziness.

Thread moved and locked.

ROM Manager

I know we have a thread for all the ROMs but we just got included in the new update for ROM manager so the EVO is supported. What do we need to do to start getting our ROMs on there? If there is anything I can do please let me know!

To get added to the ROM list, and use the OTA system and customizers, etc, devs should follow the instructions here:
http://www.koushikdutta.com/2010/03/rom-manager-and-third-party-roms.html
There's like 2 dozen ROMs for Droid listed (as well as a bunch for N1/Dream/Sapphire). Hoping to build up the Evo community on it as well!
Id love to see a guide on [HOW TO] install this on evo..

I thought rom manager required flashing it's own customer recovery. Is this not the case anymore or has clock figured out how to flash a recovery to the evo???

All I did was flash a rom manger friendly rom and installed it. Went to market and downloaded rom manager. Then loaded it and downloaded clock boot from there. Went through that process.
Now I just click reboot to recovery from rom manager and it boots me right into the custom clock recovery and you can do however from there.
It's worth every penny!!!!!

not yet but toast and maejrep say they do have a method to flash /recovery its just manual and includes an older version eng hboot.
the clockwork rom manager method basically puts itself into an update.zip which is signed so the stock HTC recovery loads it and bam! custom recovery appears!
im still wondering how hes able to sign an update.zip file which HTC allows cuz IMO, that was the missing key!

It's just a test signed zip that does a hot recovery replace (it doesn't actually flash). You guys are running a Test HTC image, so test keys work on it.
Will this work with Froyo?

I was going to test it and I keep running into problems.
Maybe it's the ROM Manager? It won't auto reboot (maybe I don't get the whole idea) and if I manually try to update it with the recovery mode with update.zip, it fails immediately.
Anyone else having this issue?
I notice that when installing the recovery, there is a update.zip place in the root of the SD card. I think that is the recovery file. Anyway, I did a reboot to recovery mode, and it worked no problem. Reboot the phone again, it will boot back into android OS.
Man..this one sick program but brilliant.
PS. Got the paid version also. I think this will comes in handy later.

does anyone know if rom manager will work if you used the unrevoked method to root?
This won't work on unrevoked. It requires rooting via toast's method using the test image. You can find instructions for this method in the sticky thread pg 1 of this forum, how to root the HTC EVO.

First off you posted in the wrong section. This is development not Q&A. Second your question doesn't make sense. Your phone didn't come with a recovery image. You installed one when you rooted it. Most likely clockwork if you used unrevoked. If that's the case you can use rom manager to flash Amon_Ra's recovery. All this info is in the forum for those who do some research. If you don't have time to read up on this stuff then you probably shouldn't be flashing anything anyhow....

Actually, if you think that any Android phone doesn't have a recovery image on it stock, you should take your own advise Clockwork or Amon are an ALTERNATE recovery that you flash over the already existing Android recovery.

[Q] Updating Cyanogenmod recovery problem

Hi there,
Currently have cyanogenmod recovery 2.5.0.1 and want to upgrade to the latest (5.0.0.?)
Have tried doing this via ROM Manager, but it simply says it's installed and reports the latest version number, but when I restart in recovery it's still displaying the old version (and has none of the new features, i.e. - it hasn't updated at all)
I've read some guides on forcing ROM Manager to install newer or different .img's, but I can't even see any .img's it's downloaded. Are the downloads just failing?
Any help would be really appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

As for your question, there are two ways of accessing recovery. One is via ROM manager and the other is from hboot menu.
ROM manager is a good software and still is. But for our Desire, it gives us problems or at least confusion like the one you are having right now. After you updated the recovery how do you access it? Do you access it via ROM manager or from the power menu (alternatively vol down+power)?
The recovery you access from the power menu or alternatively, via vol down+power, is independent from the one you access using ROM manager. That's probably where you are getting confused right now. If you downloaded the update from ROM manager, then you ought to launch recovery from ROM manager as well.
So in a nutshell you have two recoveries. You updated the one from ROM manager but you are probably launching the other that wasn't updated.
Thank you stankyou (haha!) for the response!
Even when I boot into recovery from ROM Manager I get to the old version of the recovery, 2.5.0.1. Very odd. Someone has suggested using fastboot to flash this? Does this sound like a plan?
Booting to recovery with the power button & volume down yields the same as rebooting into recovery from ROM manager or the restart menu (using Runnymede AIO)

Yeah, so the odd post may end up in the wrong forum - but if we all act like little kids every time that happens, the place won't be very nice to frequent.
Cyanogenmod recovery? Not ClockWorkMod? - but hey, it was said a hundred times, how to replace the recovery (including update) - S-OFF needed - and yes you can use the fastboot to flash the newest one (even with Android Flasher).

Yes personally that's what I did for my phone. I ditched ROM Manager a long time and replaced Clockworkmod with 4EXT recovery by flashing. I was S-Off when I flashed a different recovery if that matters.

Recovery Won't Load

So I've fallen victim to a Clockwork Mod issue. (Why I decided to try Clockwork is beyond me) I've never had this issue with any phones, and after searching around I was unable to find anything that would fix the problem. I tried erasing the cache in fastboot, but it still doesn't work. I'm hoping there is something I can do to repair "recovery" without having to flash RUU. Any help would be awesome. I really hope this isn't a repost because I seriously search all over this board. I have the CDMA version of the HTC One V.

flashed to stock recovery. cleared fastboot cache. still not loading. i guess i've got to go through the whole process of flashing the ruu?
having trouble finding an image file of the CWM recovery. I have tried flashing to stock recovery to no avail. I want to try flashing the CWM but all I can find are GSM versions, and unforunately I have CDMA. I was able to get the .zip file from the ClockworkMod website but none of those methods will work. I can't use Clockwork Mod to flash the recovery, and I can't use Recovery to flash a .zip file. Any suggestions would be very helpful. +karma and possibly some mons to anyone that can help me solve this issue.

Download and install the custom recovery that you wish to use (from the CWM or TWRP thread in the the development section).
Follow the instructions posted in the recovery threads.
There is a root.zip posted there as well to give you root (but the custom rom probably is rooted already).

Hey guys, did it occur to you that the instructions you quoted are all for T210 ? It might not work on T211 and might even brick it. The OP and the me too would like an assurance that it will work on the t211. Also for the Infamous Tab3 the dev clearly said that I might lose the 3G if I flash it on my tab 3 T211.
