Wireless Speeds - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Why am i only getting a 3 meg download from my wifi and i have a 20 meg pipe? All other devices are getting a consistent 10 meg+.

Your wireless connection probably just isn't that great.

Weird, what's the band? I think ibemad1 might have solved your problem!

WiFi on gingerbread

In testing speeds today with the speed test app, I noticed that my 3g speed tripled from .5 mbps to a little over 1.6 mbps. I turn on WiFi got a good signal, says its connected at 54 mbps to the router, run the speed test and get 5.1 mbps. Ran it 3 more times and same result. I take my wifes epic connected to the same router and get 12-14 mbps which is what it should be since we have 15mbps cable internet service. Is this a known issue with the EVO or is something wrong with mine? I searched and all I could find was something about getting wireless n and how gingerbread removed it or something but I couldn't find anything saying it limited the WiFi down to less than 10 mbps. It's a stock EVO with gingerbread. I was an unlucky person who got it new with 2.3.3.
who cares what this says anyways
not sure but i have the same problem on every rom i flash..my router throws out 20-23 mbps and my evo only picks up 5 to 7 mbps..kinda makes me mad but i guess evos have a weak wifi radio

WiFi not picking up full speed

I am currently on a non rooted att s3 and my phone consistently speed tests at 12mbps when I am connected to my WiFi. However, I pay for a 25 Mbps connection at my house and the rest of my devices speed test at 25 Mbps just fine. Is there a setting that I am missing or is this something that I should contact att/Samsung about?

Without getting too technical, are you using 2.4 GHz for wifi or 5 GHz? When I switched to my 5 GHz band at home I noticed a huge difference in throughput. You may also want to look at channel bandwidths. 20 or 40 MHz
If you are running 2.4 GHz, do a channel survey and see what your neighbours are using, then move your channel away from theirs if you see a conflict.
When you say the rest of your devices speed test at 25 MBps do you mean wired or wireless?
My other devices are wireless. And I am running on the 2.4 GHz. I will check the channel/bandwidth when I get home and see if that helps.

Ok, so I tried changing the channel, however that did not help. I was not 100% sure how to check the bandwidth, but when i used wifi analyzer it went from channel 11 to 14, so im guessing that has something to do with it.
Had no luck, and decided to root. Tried on the rooted stock rom and the HyperDrive rom, but both gave me <6 mbps connection when next to the gateway.
My modem/router is a rented one from comcast (their arris docsis 3.0 gateway), so maybe that info will help someone a bit more knowledgeable than me for this problem.

Slow wifi/download speeds?

Testing with Speedtest, I'm getting around 18-19000 kbps on my S3. On my N7, I'm getting around 4800 kbps. That's a huge difference. Is anyone else experiencing this?
I'm getting 5700. I'm on the slim ROM. Likely that won't fix your problems. I wouldn't be able to tell you if it is router based, distance or hardware.

I think I fixed it for now. I hit "forget" on the network I was connected to and reconnected. Speeds seem to be normal now and hopefully it stays that way.
Spoke too soon. The wifi connection seems to degrade after awhile. I tested it again and it was back to around 5000 kbps. Disconnected and reconnected to the same network and it's back up to normal speeds of around 18000 kbps.
Anyone else experiencing this?
Using speedtest.net via their Android app, I get the same speed that I see on their app/website from other devices on the same network tested just before or after the Nexus 7. This is true for me when connected to 25Mbps fiber hard line and an EDGE mobile network shared via mobile hotspot.
Strange. Maybe the wifi radio in my unit is a dud. It's fine right after I connect to a network but it seems to slow down by around 75% after awhile.

Q. Anyone getting horrible wifi speeds on 2.4ghz

So, I usually leave my phone on my wireless n/5ghz connection, and I get fantastic speeds.
I tried in on 2.4ghz today, and instead of getting my "normal" 60 down/13 up, I can't get anything faster than 5 down/3 up
I know its not my router, as its brand new, and I have it setup perfectly, and everyone else's devices in the house,(lg G2's, samsung tablet) gets GREAT speed on both 2.4ghz, and 5 ghz in the same exact spots.
I am only getting a 39 meg "Link Speed" on my phone on 2.4ghz, whereas the other phones in the house are getting a 96 meg "Link Speed" on 2.4ghz
I've tried all the advanced wifi settings on the phone, including going from auto to 2.4 only, and the speed is still horrible.
My previous phone, an LG Flex, also had great speeds on both 2.4ghz and 5ghz..
This is a completely stock t mobile m8, only 3 weeks old, so I am wondering if the phone is bad, or if these phones just have poor 2.4ghz wireless radios..
Anyone see the same problems with thier M8 and wifi speeds on 2.4ghz?
Same problem for me since 4.4.3 i must switch wifi off on to solve the issue and after a while problem returns.
Setting a static ip in settings helps a little.

yeah, I wonder if it happened when I got 4.43 a few days ago; I never bothered to check it until today..
thanks
I see some one else posted a similar wifi speed issue; there must be more folks who had this problem since the 4.4.3 update..

Slow wifi link speed

Hello! I have a LG G3 since a couple of years ago. I was only able to use its 5ghz wifi since May, because previously I had no compatible router. It was working fine, getting between 150 and 180 mbps in speedtests, with a wifi speed link of 433 mbps. Today I switched from my ISP to another. They provided me a new router, called Livebox Next. It has more or less the same wifi specs as the last one I had, it can handle up to 1300mbps in the 5ghz band with wifi AC. However, my phone is not getting anything near that. My wifi link speed is stuck at 86 mbps. I tried changing the channel of the wifi, but it has no effect. In the speedtests, I have like 10mbps of download speed and about 50-60 mbps of upload speed (weird, isn't it?).
I need your help guys. Connecting in the 2.4 ghz band I get between 30-40 mbps. The technician that installed me the router made his own speedtests in his laptop and he got 300mbps in the speedtest in the 5ghz band so I guess its not the routers fault, something is not right but I don't know what.
Regards.
I have a kind of similar problem as you with the G pad 3 8.0. I get 15-30 Mbps download and 10 Mbps download with an AC 2600 router.
