I would like to hook up a FM Transmitter to my EVO to play music from my phone through my cars speakers. Can anyone recommend a good one? I would like to spend around $20 -$30 dollars.
I have this one, I use it in my work truck and it does a pretty good job. One nice feature with this one is that if you start getting interference, you can hit the smart scan button and it will find a clear frequency.

I would only use one of these transmitters if there isn't any other way to get your music to your radio. If you can use an aux jack or a tape deck adapter, those will work better and are cheaper.
You could install a FM modulator, it plugs in to your antenna on the back of your radio. It will cut out interference and give better sound.

i read our evo's came w/ an fm transmitter built in to the motherboard. I wish there was some development going on that would allow us to use it for that reason -i would love to "broadcast" my music through my car's radio to the speakers!
Thanks for the reply's. I have heard alot about the Motorola T505. Will that work on our evos??
Just be sure to set your expectations correctly (low). Most people who care about audio quality would never use the terms "good" and "FM transmitter" together. But if it's the only option you have in the vehicle, it's better than nothing.

it does. i used it a lot before the new one, the roadster, came out and loved it. the roadster is an upgrade in every way, but if you dont want to pony up the extra money youll be satisfied with the 505

I bought this little guy and returned him the next day. Quite possibly the worst FM transmitter that I have ever used. YMMV
I read in another thread that one guy said that the FM Transmitters that work really well are the ones that are powered by batteries like 2 AAA's. So in my quest at walmart last night I found one that takes batteries and seems to have good reviews. Any Opinions? I might buy it just to give it a try and if it doesn't work I can return it

ok i just got the roadster for my evo and i love the music part of it but some people say that cant hear me to good. Anyone that has the roadster can shed some light for me i would be thankful
Family Dollar has a good cheap one, like 6 bucks and runs on batteries or cigarette lighter
Ya know our phone are capable of doing this? But the script has never been made cause a lot of devs dont think it would be worth the effort.

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone knows any good, cheap FM transmitters that would work for the HTC EVO. My car doesn't have blue tooth so I need to buy one of these! Obviously, the main reason I'm getting one of these is for music.
If anyone has one, tell me about it.
Thanks
Unless you live in the middle of nowhere, don't waste your money. I've tried a bunch and they are all terrible.
The only good ones are the ones that are hardwired to the antenna.
if you can find one, I bought one of the generic white ones that is similar to the tunecast 2. But it was made in china. I took it apart to do the antenna mod that you can do with the tunecast 2 and sure enough there was a pots inside. When i adjusted it I could pick really good. If you want something that will broadcast you can try the digital transfmitter from c crane. I have heard good things about it.
I have the Motorola t 505 Bluetooth fm transmitter. It's an ok fm transmitter. I wish it had a stronger fm signal... living in nyc, there aren't too many good empty stations to use..... another downside to the t 505 is the price.... I think its still a bit high.
What kind of car do you have, does it have the factory radio in it, if not what make and model stereo is in it?

I'm going to assume the OP has the factory stereo system in his car that does not have a aux in and a blue tooth module.

+1 for the Moto T505. Perhaps due to the fact that my car's FM antenna is built into the rear defroster, my FM reception is typically quite poor with most FM transmitters. However, living in a much less urban area than NYC, I've no problem finding solid FM stations for the T505.

I just got this the other day on a recommendation and all I can is wow, it actually works. You won't be getting concert sound from it but if your deck has no tape/bluetooth/aux this is your best option. And if you don't like it Meritline is great with their returns

+1 here as well. I got the T505 in my car and it rocked - at first. The more and more I use it, the more and more I regret buying it. I'm saving money to buy a stereo deck with Bluetooth built in instead. I live in Chicagoland and even if I do find a clear station you can totally tell the audio quality isn't up to par. Do yourself a favor and get a deck with built in Bluetooth. You'll be much, much happier.
i actually bought the t505 a few weeks ago. posted a review on it here.
i live in NYC and it works great for me.
great buy imo, and if you order online its like 50-60.
i'm not trying to contest a deck with BT built in, i'm 100% sure that's better, but this works great for me and is dramatically cheaper.
imo, try to t505, if it doesnt work out, return it and save up for a good head unit with bt built in.

I agree with you completely I bought it cause I wanted to save some $$ too. I mean, who doesn't??
Hello Everyone - In my effort to somehow give back to the XDA Community somehow (since developing is outta my league) I figured I would try and do a review of an FM Transmitter I bought from Walmart. I made a thread about a week ago, and recieved some good options but this is what I decided to settle on.
Brand: Scosche FM Transmitter
Model: FMT4R
Price at Store: $12
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Scosche-FM-Transmitter/14666784
I will start off by saying WOW! I am quite surprised of how clear the sound was. You can easily choose from 14 different transmitting frequencies but upon installation using 88.3 FM worked great. I was warned about the clarity and told not to set my expectations to high, but this little unit sounds great. While searching another forum, a member recommended FM Transmitters that use batteries to power the unit and not the cig lighter. This transmitter uses 2 AAA batteries (not included of course) and I couldn't be happier.
If you are looking for an inexpensive way to play music through you're car speakers, this should work great for you
Overall Rating: 9 / 10
What phone mount are you using also?
Do you have some bigger pictures?
Scratch this sentence, missed the battery part. Not to be a downer, am only curious. I have yet to find a perfect one and people will suggest but others wont agree its crazy. Is this a Walmart only thing too? I should look around as you'd have to murder me and drag me in in order for me to "set foot" inside a Walmart. Less than 15 and that good? :suspiciouseyes
I need something that is as good as plugging in to the tape deck and have yet to find one. Gonna look but I've heard of battery powered ones that are no better. Maybe for 15 I can send someone out to hunt it down, but it'd still be a "contribution" to a cause I wish not contribute to. LOL Thanks though I need a more solid offering so some looking in order.

Just some cheap ebay mount I had laying around.
How long do the batteries last? Every one of these I've ever tried before had a lot of distortion. Not so with this one? i can't see why battery current would be superior to charger current?
Batteries haven't ran out and im going on 4 days of moderate use. Clearity is good. Its only 12 bucks, buy one and let me know what you think.
You'll never get as good a quality as a direct connection.. Sure, there's ways around the signal issue of FM transmitters.. Such as unplugging or removing your antenna all together, this cuts down on all the interference of outside sources, like normal FM signals, trying to overpower the FM transmitters signal.. I say if you've gone this long, without really needing to play your Evo through your radio, than save your money, and order an aftermarket cd player from Crutchfield.. They often have specials where you get everything you need to install a cd player, for free.. That includes wiring harnesses and the mounting kits.. I just got a Clarion CZ100 from them for $83, and that was with the 2-day shipping.. Really not a bad price..
I've bought it while on a trip from Indiana to North Carolina. It worked great. I got about 12 continuous hours straight of playback with little to no distortion.
On another note, I wonder if it's possible to mod it to run off a cigarette lighter adapter. I know that it would have to be changed from 12 volts to 3 volts. If I can find some plans on building it, I would.

All I have to say is WOW!!!! Thank u SO much for bringing this to my attention. This thing sounds amazing. It honestly sounds like im listening to a cd. Crystal clear, very loud. I've used other fm transmitters before, nothing top of the line but quite a bit more expensive than this one and this one tops them all. Best twelve dollars I've ever spent. I would recommend this to anyone. What do u have to loose. I promise, u wont be disappointed. Thanks again.

Which media player are you using that lets the dialer show up? Basically I like the screen layout in this screenshot.
Also, for those that want one that plugs into the cigarette lighter outlet Wally World has it for $30. It comes with a remote as well.

By the way I bought this same transmitter for someone as a cheap christmas gift. Haven't heard back from them as to how they like it. I believe it was $11 at my local walmart. Also, its not in the electronics section, its in the car parts section, right next to the guns actually, haha.

Is there a music dock for the Evo anywhere?
I'm NOT talkin about a car dock, or a charging/syncing dock or just external speakers that plug into the headphone port...
I mean a dock like the millions of them that are available for the iPhone that is an actual stereo where the phone docks into it and charges/plays music at the same time..
I have looked everywhere and cant find one.. seems like the only thing that the iPhone has that my Evo doesnt that I actually want
Any ideas?
Oh, and something that you "rigged" up that does the same thing might be interesting to see also..
You're not going to find anything made specifically for the EVO. The best bet is to find a universal one that has USB charging capabilities. I can't recall one off the top of my head but I'm sure they are out there.
Yeah, I really wasnt expecting to find an "EVO specific" one but I cant even find a universal one that's not a complete piece of crap that is so inconvenient to use that it's not worth it...
Am I the only one that wants one of these or what? There has to be a bir market for a really good universal one that non-iPhone users can buy... Maybe I'm missing something
YES, YES, a million times YES on someone making this!
I would buy it in a heartbeat!!!

I want one of these. I am actually in the process of making one out of wood. I am thinking of shaping it like a regular dock, and using a good acoustical wood. Got the idea from here.
I am thinking this would work great. Maybe take a charger and run it up so that you can plug it in, and use the acoustics of the wood to amplify the sound. Just a thought.
So there are no MicroUSB docks anywhere??
I figured someone would have made one
I've been thinking about one, and it would be cool
I guess even a dock with a USB port so one could connect the cable to it would be fine
sigh

Great idea, thanks man!
The problem is the HDMI out: there is no "dock" connector, just USB (which IS host capable, somewhere on that chip) and the HDMI connector.
HDMI encodes the audio into blank space of the video stream, so you need signal processing to seperate the two: that's too close to the DO NOT CROSS line for manufacturers. There aren't many products that do that (right now), and I don't know if there will be. However I found this one in my travels:
http://hinen.gmc.globalmarket.com/p...switcher-4-port-with-audio-output-165992.html
Is the only thing I can find that comes close to an audio extractor for HDMI. And it has an extra 3 inputs!
So you could get the HDMI dock, the HDMI adapter cable, this doodad, a receiver (or a digital audio to analog converter and THEN to a receiver), and then go out to your speakers. Of course that assumes the software/firmware on the EVO can just play audio out that end: because it is HDMI you would have to have a video signal of some kind going down the wire to activate the link. I suspect that last part would be the easiest part. Though, as developers would probably love something like this too.
Yet another case of DRM being a pain in the ass. in this case, we can thank Intel for being able and willing to sue companies into the ground for not following the HDMI rules.
One final note: if there is HDMI plugged in, all other audio stops (ie bluetooth, headphone jack and builtin speaker). I have not tested this, but this is what HTC said on their tech support forum when I asked.
*EDIT*
Just noticed it has stereo out, but the description is in some funny Engrish, so there is no telling if it is actually available.
*EDIT 2*

Appears to have been around for ~3 years, but almost $300 too!

They are all pretty much the same. It's going over FM so sound quality won't be as good as it can be. Any ones that I used with past phones were the same quality (audio wise) whether it was a $10 ebay brand or a $50 Belkin.

Going that way will get you much better audio quality than an FM transmitter will.
If you're stuck with using an FM transmitter, then the best one you can get is the Scoshe (I think that's how you spell it) *WIRED* FM transmitter from Wal-Mart. It runs off a 12v line (pull out your car stereo and cram or splice the wires into the 12v input and the ground), then it actually plugs into the back of your stereo, and your antenna plugs into the unit. When you flip the switch, it basically kills your antenna, so you can't get any interference at all. It is the absolute best FM transmitter you can get (as far as I'm concerned).
just get those mp3 player to tape-deck things, if you still have a tape deck in your car. it will be way better quality than FM transmitters.

I've seen these on crutchfield but I think if you're going to go through all the trouble why not just jut a new head unit in that has AUX? If you MUST go FM I'd do it this way but honestly it's as much work as a new head unit which would give you better sound quality than your stock stereo anyway.
Actually, I found the cheaper "ebay brands" to be better than the expensive brands. I had a run where I was buying new ones about every two months to use in my work cars, and the best ones were the ebay 7 dollar ones from Hong Kong. I have no verifiable proof of such, but this is my opinion which it seemed the OP asked for. Make sure you get one that has selectable bands though the entire fm range.

Jabra Cruiser works very well. Bluetooth and fm transmitter, works well for hands free calling over car stero and streams music from phone to car stereo. I have been having one for 2 1/2 years and it has worked flawlessly!
Most common FM transmitters only work to 20-30 ft, because of regulations more powerful ones are not particularly legal. But if you want something with a little more "kick" check out this one, there's a dial you turn on the main board to crank up the juice. I use it at work to sync 4 radios in our shop to the same input source, but be care full, at max power it will transmit about 1/2 mile. Audio quality is the same as any strong radio signal you normally get, in other words, quite good for what it is.

A long, long time ago (this was probably 7 years ago) Kensington had a transmitter for the iPod that used Aerielle. It was $80, but it was probably the only transmitter that didn't get horrible reviews. I had one, and it did work really well. Anyway, Best Buy used to sell some universal transmitters under their Dynex brand that also used Aerielle, and they worked great too. Every once in a while, I see some pop up on eBay. If you're lucky, you can get one for $5-8. The model number is DX-FMDC1. Most FM transmitters are garbage, but if you can find any of the Aerielle ones, I swear they blow the rest out of the water.
