I am trying to help a friend out here with this one. I am trying to put swype back on my buddies slide and I am running into major problems. First off, I want to say I was able to do this on my G2 without any problems.
Ok, I have the libSwypeCore.so file and the Swype.apk file. When I try to push the libswype core file I get an out of memory error. I get another error when I try to install the apk, but I just can't remember it now.... too tired.
Has anyone who has been successful with this point me in the right direction?

Are you pushing the .so file and the .apk file while the phone is in recovery? That's the only way we can do push and install stuff using adb on the slide without special overlays and whatnot, because we are still s-on. You can't modify /system while the phone is out of recovery. If you are doing this while in recovery and you're still getting an error, I don't know what to tell you. I doubt that it's actually out of memory, so maybe a more experienced person on the matter can further troubleshoot. Sorry that's all I could offer

Wow, I did not know that. Thanks for the info. When I get his phone back I will try to push while in recovery. Makes sense now.
Push the so and install the apk just like I would do with the G2 right?

This is odd. On the slide you don't need the .so file. Just the swype.apk and it works. Did they change things? I'm using the 195 nightly so I'm using froyo.
With the newer swype betas it isn't required.

I am having the same problem.
I just upgraded my old slide to cm6.1 so I can give it to my dad.
I tried what we do on the g2 (putting the swype libSwypeCore.so in /system/lib/ and then installing the apk but I get errors)
How or what do I need to do to go about restoring swype on my slide?
As mentioned, are you pushing the files when in Recovery,? If not, you have to be in Recovery to push files to anything in /system.

Yes I pushed them in recovery and i verified the lib is in /system/lib
When I try and do the adb install swype.apk I get a dex error (probably cause the swype.apk is from a odexed rom and cm6 isn't)
nevermind, I fixed it. Swype works now.

How did you end up fixing it? I'm sure others would love to know, and also, I was about to say, if it is an odexed APK it can't run without it'd .odex file, so you would have to use the ROM kitchen to de-odex the apk to use it with a deodexed rom. How did you end up fixing it anyway, if it wasn't by deodexing it?
I got the Swype_1.60.36.8214_HVGA.apk (which is the one that works on the slide in cm6.1).
I had to manually make room on /system for the libSwypeCore.so file though since /system was full (I moved Youtube.apk and a couple other non essential .apks to /data/app) then I opened the apk in 7zip, extracted the .so file, manually put it in /system/lib and THEN installed the .apk and swype worked just fine.
Anyway, it works now and my 70 year old father is happy with his first android experience (a white mytouch slide running cm6.1 @844mhz)
Well if you every have issues with it installing when you flash the rom or if you do it with adb I made a zip to do it. It's handy if you don't have computer around with adb installed (like me - damn work computer). I'll remove the actual Swype.apk so I don't get any lashings from the mods.
This might help next time you some one tries to install swype since it gets picky sometimes. Also, Swype 1.6* is HUGE (12MB), you may want to open the apk and take out a lot of the files since it's multi language and I'm sure most of us only use one, maybe two languages.

Yeah it will work as long as the phone will accept the apk, some swype versions are not well liked by our phone. You'll need to drag and drop your swype apk into the system-app folder then install.
Just use an archive explorer like winrar or 7zip to open (without extracting) the zip. Find your swype file, then drag and drop it into the app folder (inside the system folder). You can use adb to install it but I just flash it in clockwork.

All right, now I've got a problem.
I tried flashing the zip that KCRic and I must have downloaded a bum Swype, or one that just doesn't work... But now when I start my phone, it force closes right off the bat, and from there I can't remove it by going into Manage Applications. Everything there is greyed out.(Except Move to SD card, which doesn't work anyways)
Is there some other way I can get rid of it? Maybe thru ADB... Or an easier way? Haha.

Yeah the phone is s-on, meaning /system is read only. You have to reboot into clockwork recovery, go to partitions, mount /system, then in command prompt, type adb shell, then rm /system/app/apkname.apk, whatever the name of swype is obviously replacing apkname.
I know people have been having issues getting this to work on cm6, I found a method that ALMOST works if someone can help me expand on this.
I thought maybe it had something to do with the phone being s-on, so it couldn't upgrade properly, so I force removed the existing market app via titanium with the recovery exploit that it uses with s-on phones, and then installed it through the app manager like I would any other app. It took a long time but it eventually installed, but the glitches were so extensive it was unusable. It opens the app, and displays the UI elements fine, but if you do anything aside from navigate and search, it force closes. If you try to open an app's link up, it force closes. Attempting to go to "my apps" force closes it.
I was thinking maybe it either had something to do with the fact that it needs the old market to update to the new one, like it's an update patch, not a full app. The other thing I was thinking was that it wasn't working because it installed to /data/app, like a user app, not to /system/app like the normal market.
Would it work to adb install or adb push the apk to /system/app rather than install it as a user app do you think? I would really love to get the new market working on cm6.
SOLUTION:
All thanks to KCRic; he has posted the flashable zips for the new market, which I re-attached in the OP.

There you go, just flash them through clockwork recovery, they should work just fine.
I'm on cm6.1 and used the recovery zip file that is floating around and installed and use it with no problems at all

You don't even need the recovery zip. It works perfectly fine just installing manually.
While in recovery just plug your phone in, go into adb shell and install it from there.
"cp (Location of app) /system/app/"
IE for me I put "cp /sdcard/download/android_market.apk /system/app/" and it worked.
I didn't do anything to the original market.

If you renamed the apk to a zip, you're doing it wrong.
If you downloaded the update zip containing the apk, it's wherever you downloaded it.
Its in the them and app section under new market app..

Yeah I never found a flashable zip, I just found an apk in the apps section. Which doesn't work. If someone could post a link to the flashable zip that'd be cool. I don't have access to a USB cable right now so adb isn't a very good option haha.
Edit: nevermind, found it on the second page of the thread, here's the direct link to the zip: http://www.mediafire.com/?w7hcd0uadlndnwd, it works great, no more force closes everywhere like I was getting before

You have to create an update package with the apk inside zip_file.zip/system/app/apk.apk and you have to put an update script into meta-inf/android/blah blah blah, google it, I've forgotten, only had to do it once, I'm sure there's a tutorial out there if someone here can't directly answer you

here you go how to make a flashable package
Here you go, this should work - feel free to post in the OP if it's useful to anyone still trying to install it.
I'm going to remove all the hdpi files from the apk (since we don't need them, it will save space) and poat that version up in a bit. I'll test it first to make sure it will still work.
Added 'tiny' market install zip
For those that don't know, you go into clockwork recovery - select 'install zip from sdcard' - find the zip and install it. Reboot and enjoy.

Ok, sounds good. I'm testing the 'tiny' version now and I'll update that post with the file if it works. Removing the files didn't drop the size much (~0.3MB) but smaller is still always better.

Edited the OP, included info, should all be good to go
Also, would this market work on eclair? The version is 2.2.6 so I'm thinking not, since it has froyo elements like auto app update, etc.
Edit: shortly after I installed cr_mod the market auto updated, but it did so to version 2.2.7, not 2.2.6. So yes, the new market does work on eclair, with auto updating. Kickass. If you'd all like I can pull the apk from my phone and post it if no one has it? Although aside from cm users everyone should be getting updated, I think.

I have no idea, but honestly I'm thrilled to have the new market AND auto update functionality on eclair. It was also nice that I didn't even have to flash anything, it updated itself. I had heard that the auto update worked fine with sense ROMs, only people running CM were having issues. You're probably right, it's probably an edited version for eclair. But cr_mod still has gmail v1, I really wish I could get version 2.3 :/ old gmail sucks. I'm going to try and just pull the apk and upgrade it with an app manager from one of the gapps packages, but I'm not sure, since google apps on sense roms is different.
Well stock android will generally always work on sense roms, just not the other way around. The issue you may run into are differences in os versions (2.1 vs 2.2.1). But with gapps it's usually not an issue, at least not yet since the versions aren't too far apart.

I actually googled around a bit, the gmail that's in the market, which is 2.3 at the moment, and before that 2.2.1, only shows up on froyo, since that's all it works on. Eclair and below are all stuck with version 1 :/
I'm pretty sure HTC loads gapps in a different way because there is actually a googleapps.apk or gapps.apk in /system/app, the flashable package just has all of the apks. I tried to open the flashable zip with astro and browse to gmail.apk and see if it would upgrade but it wouldn't parse the package. I could TRY flashing the eclair gapps and see if that works, but I'll definitely do a nandroid first. I guess I'll try that and post back.
I love how my threads always end up venturing off topic. I kind of "hijack" my own threads in a sense
So I've been messing around this weekend trying to get the LICENSED Swype installation that came with our handsets to work on Aospcmod, and through a mess of trial and error I finally figured out what was going on and got it to work. Yes, I know there is another thread here that has you downloading the trialware beta and doing other 'hinky stuff' to make it work, but I'd rather use the licensed copy that came with my phone, thanks.
Swype appears to peek at the build.prop on our handsets and if certain variables don't match what it expects to find it will error out into unlicensed mode where 'swyping' doesn't work and you get a 'Swype not licensed for this device' type message.
In particular Swype seems to look at ro.product.model and ro.product.brand (in build.prop) - for some reason whoever is compiling Aospcmod for the Optimus V has seen it fit to change these values from what they were in the stock FroYo build.
So - to make a long story short if you are using a custom ROM, you've pulled the Swype.apk and libSwypeCore.so from the stock rom and put them into your custom rom, and you still can't get Swype to work you should edit build.prop and change these lines from:
ro.product.model=LG-VM670
ro.product.brand=virgin_mobile
to:
ro.product.model=VM670
ro.product.brand=VirginMobile
How do you edit build.prop? Well if you've installed a custom ROM I'd like to think you can figure it out for yourself. My method was:
1. Connect your phone and use ROMTools option 4 to mount /system as r/w
2. adb pull /system/build.prop
3. Make the above edits to build.prop (USE A REAL TEXT EDITOR - NOT WINDOWS NOTEPAD!)
4. adb push build.prop /system/build.prop
5. Reboot
Need the original Swype.apk and libSwypeCore.so from the stock ROM? Simple! Use SwypeRestore.apk posted by another user of XDA - it will pull the Swype from a backup of the stock ROM (You DO have a backup, right?) and install it to your current setup. You can find SwypeRestore here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=841603
Once you've fixed the build.prop, installed the Optimus V stock Swype.apk and libSwypeCore.so, and rebooted the phone you should be good to go - a fully legitimate and licensed Swype install on your custom ROM!
Hope this wasn't too complicated sounding.
I was going to attach a fixed build.prop for Aospcmod, but since the various values can change every time a build of Aospcmod is released I figured it would be better to have everyone do their own build.prop editing. :-/
Thanks for the tutorial. Been missing swype on my on my V since i put a custom rom on it.

Yeah... that's because you're using a ROM that didn't come with Swype. The issue on bumblebee and stock is that Swype pre-installed means lots of files in places you don't want them to be.
Unintalling Pre-Install Swype
Hey guys, to uninstall preload Swype:
Use root explorer to delete Swype.apk from your \system\app\ folder
then delete lib file for swype (sorry I don't remember the exact name) from \system\lib\ (search for *swype* should find it)
reboot
download beta and enjoy!
Or...you could just do it the easy way - download Swype installer and the beta through it.

This is not the original, it has been slightly modded & the arrows have been removed. It installs fine for me on MIUI.

I really liked it. Though today i booted up my phone and got fc like crazy over swype. If you read the apk it says minimum os requirement is 3.1
So far, after a restart, I have it working again.. What I did:
1. Select a different keyboard to stop the force closing of the new Swype.
2. Restore the original pre installed Swype.
3. Dalvik wipe and a cache wipe. after the reboot, FIRST de-select the default Swype input to Android keyboard
5. Delete the old Swype (backup the original) from system/app.
6. Proceed to the Swype installer and install Swype, when it gets to the licensing part, you should get a background fc (I believe that's Swype restarting from unlicensed, to licensed.)
7. Don't enable Swype after licensing is done. Instead move it to system/app.
8. Restart into cwm. Dalvik wipe 3x, and reboot. The force closing is gone. Go into the locale and text input in settings, and notice all keyboards are checked. when you try typing no keyboard should come up.
9. Launch Swype installer and it now says (sorry, Swype is not available on preinstalled devices) close out and as soon as you try typing again, the new Swype will work again . No force closes, still works after reboot and etc.
I hope this delicate procedure helps someone else who wants the latest Swype, its Hella worth it, and you'll be glad you did since here on after it will be ota updates! =D

Hm, after I remove 3.25 then reboot it's still there! Guess I'll have to stick with that one...
EDIT: Was able to remove 3.25 with Titanium Backup, rebooted and installed 3.26 successfully. Lost the slick theme from the Nexus S 3.25 but better functionality and OTA updates will be worth it!
Got it to work on my Epic 4g with SRF 1.2 with Twilight 1.1.1
Version of skype on my phone. 3.26.92d.35381.t0

1. Uninstall your current Swype (just the keyboard, leave the installer)
2. Make a backup copy on your sdcard of /system/build.prop (Use ES File Explorer/Root Explorer, etc.. Something that has root access and write access to root level)
3. Go in and open your current build.prop on the device in /system/ and modify the following line.
Change the line:
ro.product.model=Nexus S 4G (on our phone it shows sph-d700, but change it to Nexus S)
To read:
ro.product.model=Nexus S
Save, reboot and run the installer.. You will then have 3.26 when completed. Afterwards go back in and either change your current build.prop back to saying Nexus S 4G or delete out the current and replace with your backup copy.

I just got it installed, loving the new layout. Bigger spacebar and they removed the language icon finally!
running SR v1.2, just used titanium backup to uninstall the system app. Then installed as normal from the site. Works great.
Update: looks like when I reboot, I get a bunch of Swype force closes. I made the update to build.prop above and it fixed the issue.
1. Uninstall your current Swype (just the keyboard, leave the installer)
2. Make a backup copy on your sdcard of /system/build.prop (Use ES File Explorer/Root Explorer, etc.. Something that has root access and write access to root level)

Good catch. This fixed my FC on reboot problem. I just wish we could have this without the installer.
My version of getting it installed can have installer removed, without faking the build.prop
Hm.. interesting, I'm not able to follow my instructions on GB. They worked fine for Froyo. Guess my Instructions only help if you're on froyo?

I successfully installed 3.26, what I did:
1. Switched to Android Keyboard (turned off Swype)
2. Uninstalled Swype AND Swype Installer with Titanium
3. Went on-line to have new invite email sent.
4. Clicked on link, Installer installed no problem.
5. Swype installed no problem.
Can the Installer now be uninstalled, since Swype is supposed update itself automatically from now on?
If you want 3.26 themed, check out this guy's site. Awesome work, and they're all fully compatible with our phone.
Also very easy to install. All you have to do is download his apk, uninstall swype from ur phone (thru titanium OR delete w/ root explorer), then just install the new swype 3.26 regularly. no need to root explorer push or flash or wutever. just install. 1-2-3.

better hurry in case swype shuts this guy down or something, as they've done in the past. or at least request that he takes down all his swype beta apks.
i love this keyboard thanks
can someone please post the latest beta apk? i have deleted the appropriate files/previous version and downloaded the installer but it still wont let me install the beta.
please help
Send you the apk is not allowed cause it's only for beta testers...but you can contact the Swype support
i dont think that is true as you can download it directly from their website but if your phone has swype preinstalled they dont let you download it. Can someone please post the latest version of swype with Dragon?
thanks in advance,

If you are a beta member you can download it. If you have Swype preinstalled remove the apk, lib file, and data folder then install the Swype installer. Swype has asked before that people stop publicly distributing their product, especially their betas.
