[Q] How to install a radio (HTC DESIRE rooted) - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all I wish everyone o good year!
Now how do I install a radio on my rooted htc desire? Just flash the zip?

I have just flashed the zip file from recovery, its done now ty

Glad you made it. Right procedure would be:
1. flash ROM
2. flash Radio
Whatever you do, don't pull out the battery while flashing the Radio, or you'll 99% brick your phone!

Enjoy!
I'm interested in trying other ROMs but I would like to be able to return to my current stock ROM if it doesn't work out. Currently I'm running a Bell ROM, but the version is more recent than this one.
Specificially, I'm running 1.34.666.5 with Radio 12.28b.60.140eU.26.03.02.26_M.
Right now, both the firmware and the radio versions are newer than anything on the xda site. Would it be possible for you to obtain a newer RRU? I have checked both the Bell and HTC sites and couldn't find a download link for any RRU.
If it isn't possible, can I expect my phone to update to the current versions OTA if I give it this ROM?
Is it possible for extract the current radio ROM from my phone itself?
I apologize in advance if I'm asking these questions in the wrong place

if you permroot/s-off your phone. you can do a full backup using clockworkmod recovery. however, you do NOT want to flash official ruu's and such, if one is older then the one your on or from another brand, this will happen: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=838484
if you want to try this rom, it will have to be A.made into an update.zip rom w/hboot, radio, and recovery all REMOVED, or B. take just the system.img out of it and flash JUST the system.img in fastboot in bootloader (not the fast boot in sense). "fastboot flash system system.img"...you will then need to re-permroot, but skip all the s-off/hboot stuff, you will still be s-off.

Yeah, I need the Radio 12.28b.60.140eU.26.03.02.26_M Extracted from your ROM too. Because I flashed the WWE ROM and I'm having signal issues, compared to my brother who is using that current Bell ROM. If I have to run the Bell ROM to fix this, I'd do that too, but I can't find 1.34.666.5 only the 1.34.666.1 that's listed in this post.
*EDIT*
So... I flashed this posted RUU "[RUU] RUU_Vision_BellMobility_WWE_1.34.666.1_Radio_12.28 b.60.140e_26.03.02.18_M2".
But found the kernel is different, so I couldn't S-OFF to get recovery back on. So... I had my brother S-OFF his phone and make a
Nandroid of his phone running 1.34.666.5. I then proceeded to flash "RUU_Vision_HTC_WWE_1.34.405.5_Radio_12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.26_M_release_155556_signed" back onto my phone, and then rooted, S-OFF, flashed clockwork" and then recovered using my brothers Nandroid backup. Then used clockwork to reset it back to factory. I then made a nandroid backup of that. So, I am posted a Nandroid Backup of
So if you flashed this, the steps are as follows to get back to the original Bell ROM.
1. Flash "RUU_Vision_HTC_WWE_1.34.405.5_Radio_12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.26_M_release_155556_signed"] ROM via multiupload.com /67NZB9NER1
2. Root
3. S-OFF
4. Install Clockwork Recovery via ROM Manager
5. Reboot into Clockwork
6. Recover using Bell HTC Desire/Vision 1.34.666.5 Nandroid Backup via my upload here multiupload.com /6SETLDCPJE
Hope that helps some people who are stuck!
PS To Flash the WWE ROM you might need a Gold Card, I used one.
I'd like a tutorial on how to extract just the radio from the WWE roms. If we could get them as .zip's, loading them with recovery would be very beneficial. I know that if you install a WWE update through HBOOT, you will lose your root and it will return your phone to s-off. Its a bit of a pain of having to go through the rerooting process every time.

Mee too please,...
Did my post help anyone?
I just wanted the radio to flash over my current ROM to see if there was any difference in network reception for us in the uk. But I got a new sim now which seems to be a lot better.
I'm sure your nandroid will be useful to others.

The radio version in this ROM appears to be identical to the one in my UK ROM.

Ok, so now that I've unlocked my device using the new gfree method, and have true radio S-OFF and SuperCID, I believe that I could now flash any provider image and return to my backup or a stock provider image at any time. I'm right, er, right?

I am not 100% sure on this myself, but I think it should be ok now. Before the problem was that you could flash an older ROM, and it would first off flash the stock HBOOT over the previous eng HBOOT that was giving you S-OFF. So this would immediately put you back to S-ON. However, now with radio S-OFF you will stay at S-OFF in the flashing process, because the change is made in the radio configuration partition, which won't be touched by the flash.

or : 12.28b.60.140eU.26.03.02.26_M
or something completely different?
reason being i flashed the world rom (HTC_WWE_1.34.405.5_Radio_12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.26_m)
and my data cuts in and out and it drains the battery like crazy!

Flashing a new radio

Hi
I know this is a noob question but how do you flash a new radio to the htc desire, the reason I ask is because when I had a G1 I flashed plenty of radio's and roms and ended up bricking it one day because I was a bit dum one day, and I dont really want to brick my desire.
Ive seen the tutorial on here where u use macardo in windows but surely you would just flash the radio since there is no spl to worry about? is that right?
Download .zip from the Desire Android Developement Section (Desire stock radios), then boot into recovery and flash the .zip file - radio flash done.
Of course, if the file is a corrupted download (not finished most likely), it can brick your phone.
Always check the file, if it's correct before flashing.
The best way for me is to flash with fastboot commander (Can find it in the forums)
If you don't find it look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=823315
Thanks guys

[Q] Flashing lastest radio RCMixHD 3.6 ?

my desire radio 32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2
already installed rcmix hd 3.6
can i flashing lastest radio? (Radio_32.54.00.32U_5.14.05.17)
Yes, you can.
Do I have to do s-off ?
No, you can flash it from recovery if you have the .zip file, just as a ROM.
But make sure you have downloaded correctly and check twice!!! A bad (corrupted/not finished) .zip can result in a bad flash - means bricking your phone.
If you decide to go S-OFF, you can flash it via FASTBOOT, which is safer than the .zip
As of my experience - I flashed 2 radios via recovery and .zip (checked the files throughly) and all succesful.

[Q]Befor flashing rom.

Hello,
I am just befor flashing rom and i have some questions:
1.How do i change radio?
and how do i backup my radio?
2.If some thing wrong with the flashed rom,i can get back to my backup rom?(backup from recovery)
3.Does full wipe necessary for flashing a rom?
Can i flash rom without full wipeing?
4.if i dont change radio just keep the one i have now, some thing will happend?
5.I got warrnty on my Desire HD,if i flash for other rom and i dont want that my company will know about it,how can i reset everything to like i got him?
how do i backup everything(ROM,Karnel(If needed),Radio and more)
Thanks for helpers!
Hi, here's some answers for you: for the radio, there is a thread of all the radio available for desire HD, so you don't have to worry about backup for your current radio.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=877295
Yes, backup can be done in cwm recovery and restore later on.
Wipe is necessary when it is stated in the instruction provided in the rom. Normally full wipe is a must when changing roms and are optional if up/downgrading version.
It is recommended to use matching radio with rom. Unmatch radio will cause performance drop of wifi, battery life etc.
All rooting, flashing are reversible. Just check the stickies in Desire HD Android Dev section on how to instruction.
Just make sure you have radio-off to change radio, s-off for flashing, and root to do all those above.

Make sure you back up your original rom (stock) incase you do need warranty and keep it somewhere safe.
I think everything else was covered
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App
Thanks you guys,
But how do i backup my original ROM(the one i use now)?
If i do full wipe does it delete the backup that i made ?
and how do i backup my apps, contacts, photos?
What is MD5?
Ok i understand how to flash radio.img now how do i backup my radio(the one i use now)?
Thanks you.

[Q] Flashing Baseband Radio without losing root, possible?

I have the stock HTC Wildfire ROM with Baseband Radio, after many tries of flashing roms (Stock, Custom...etc), the performance of radio some how got effected by dropping calls many times and other GSM and 3G issues.
The question now, can I install the baseband radio without losing S-OFF, Root, ROM or other apps, patches?
If possible, how any walk-through to do for Wildfire with CWM and Cyanogenmod 7.2?
Thanks!
U can flash the radio without loosing root!
If u want to flash the radio. Then the first thing to do is download the latest one. .....20.10 i belief. Put it on the root of your sdcard.
Then you need to boot in recovery 2.5.x by rommanager and execute the radio zip. Wait a few moments and your radio is flashed.
That will flash the radio. There is a risk for flashing the radio!!!!! and u cant solve it by a nandroid.
If it is not the radio, then i dont know what is wrong...
Hazou
