Question for Unyaffs - Defy General

As you know, we got a Chinese froyo rom for DEFY but it's degoogled. I'm tring to add google services for that.
My plan is unpack SBF file and add mdpi-gapps then pack again.
Now, I've already unpacked the SBF file sucessful and got the CG39.smg. but I strucked on unpacking the CG39.smg, unyaffs.exe doesn't work on my windows7. I need help or anybody can run unyaffs on your Linux surounding?

unyaffs works ok for me on windows 7 - how are you using unyaffs, are you aware it need to be run in a cmd line? If so are you x86 OR x64.

@gavinta, i've a 64-bit linux installed, if you tell me what to do i will help you.

Thanks. Here's my steps:
1. Download 2.2ROM from this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=895448
2. Download unyaffs.exe from this page: http://jiggawatt.org/badc0de/android/index.html
3. Download MotoAndroidDepacker.exe from http://modmymoto.com/forums/showthread.php?t=530781
4. Use MotoAndroidDepacker.exe unpack 2.2 sbf file, then you got CG39.smg
5. Unpack CG39.smg by unyaffs.exe, you should get /system folder if everything goes well, then just delete or add anything you want and pack a new SBF at last.
For more support of unyaffs, please visit http://code.google.com/p/unyaffs/

Yes, I did that in the CMD line which running as administrator. But it always shows "stop working"

Would it be possible to flash new/recompiled boot.img/system.img via recovery then?
Or partitions with digital signatures should be also updated?

i#m downloading the files, but it will need some hours; very slow line.

Yes, it's okay. I've flashed a recompiled froyo sbf with a old CG39 which from 2.21UK sbf successful, of course this rom cannot running but it's a good start. Next, we need to unpack the CG39 and modify that.

I put up a mirror for the rom here, 30mbit upload in Denmark:
Let me know if you guys need hosting for project files or roms, we need to get rooted froyo for the Defy!

the depacker didn't work here. sorry. don't know why.

I just had an idea... I wonder if you could extract the froyo Dialer app and add it to the 2.34.1 rom.
Well, there's only one way to find out.

unyaffs never worked for me with CG39. I've tried that when I first got the phone. My guess is that it's not pure yaffs filesystem image, or that the unyaffs code it's buggy. I've tried modifing it prior to compliling, but all I got was different errors, from Stack Overflows to program hardcoded messages like the filesystem was not properly built.

Yes, I have same result. Fortunately, we got the gapp update packge from MOTO, so every google services run well on Chinese Froyo now, you should try it.

Is it possible to use this froyo kernel in an AOSP froyo build?

[MOD][SCRIPT] Auto SMS-MMS Enabler for Tablets (Any ROM!)

Hey guys
As you might know, many people want to enable SMS & MMS on their tablet.
Unfortunately, until now someone needed to manually edit your framework-res.apk
But not anymore!
I made a script that will do it automatically on any framework!
3 Steps for noobs (fully-automatic version):
1) Download it (v1.2 for noobs)
2) Connect your device to pc (usb-debugging enabled)
3) Extract and run LAUNCH THIS
4 Steps for smart people (semi-automatic version):
1) Download it (v1.2)
2) Extract & put YOUR framework-res.apk in the same folder
3) Run LAUNCH THIS
4) Push the SmSframework-res.apk to your device (don't ask how, i will also make a version for really noobish people, which will pull and push your framework automatically)
-----------------
CHANGELOG:
2012-03-02: Made script more clear to understand, added auto-reboot on noob version
-----------------
NOTICE:
Dear noob-version users, currently the script does not mount the system partition automatically as R/W, if you got such an error, please use Root explorer to mount the system as R/W
P.S. Dear Americans, most carriers block SMS in the US
I'll wait for the (version for really noobish people, which will pull and push your framework automatically) 'cause I'm a lil lazy right now LOL.
I will do backup, and give it a try! I'll be back to let you know how it went, Thanks.

Ok,
Ran the LAUNCH script - got to the point where it was going to enable the SMS, then error "Sms Enabled"
- Access denied no such file or application found."
C:/Sms-Mms enabler/edit.exe not a valid win32 application
But everything else on the script ran but with errors. I think the problem file is the "edit.exe"
After REBOOT - have to redo the Google Login, and Exchange Service for other Mail.
Afterwords checked System/framework folder .... both files were there. (framework-res.apk and SmSframework-res.apk.
I hope you get it working, because this would be awesome!

A new framework always wipes google accounts, idk why
also i did not test on 3.2
I will look in to it, i'll keep you posted
.
Im using EOS 1.0.0 ICS with my MZ601.
I generated the new SmSframework-res.apk,and pushed it as framework-res.apk
There is no stock sms application so i installed Gosms pro from market, and the sms feature works pretty fine with it
however my original framework-res.apk was 7.98 MB in file size, whereas the new generated Smsframework-res.apk is 4.46 MB
Why is this difference in file size ?? Is anything stripped from the framework-res ?

[TUTORIAL] How To Extract Files From a TAR.MD5 Stock ROM (SPH-L710)

I recently did this for the E4GT and have been asked to do it here as well.
I've received a TON of PM's and emails asking how to do this and I've decided to do a write-up for everyone. Now to start off, this does not automatically make you a Super Duper Developer, this does not show you how to make your own TAR ROMs, nor does it show you how to make your own Odin One-Clicks. What it does do is show you how to pull files from those stock leaked/official ROMs so that you can proceed to make yourself into a Super Duper Developer!
In essence if the Developer knows what they are doing they could use this method to extract all the files from the build and could then add them to a ZIP and have a stock odexed ROM within minutes and do it all through Windows! Depending on time I may or may not do a tutorial on that as well...
So let's begin!
We've all seen those pesky TAR.MD5 packages that we can flash through Odin. How often have you wanted to look inside them and see what is inside before flashing? There are several ways to do it and the most common answer requires Linux and Dsixda's Kitchen utility. This tutorial gives you the ability to do that through Windows and without having to extract the full ROM. These instructions are specific to the Samsung Galaxy S3 (all variants) but can be used on most Samsung Galaxy phones.
Each TAR.MD5 release contains multiple files. Each of these files corresponds to a specific partition on your device. These files are formatted to be mounted by your device but not by a computer. We will be converting them from a .img.ext4 partition type to an ext4.img type partition so we can mount them and read them through Windows. For this tutorial we will be opening up the system.img.ext4 (the system files partition).
Before you dive in there are a few things you'll need.
- A PC running Windows.
- A stock TAR.MD5 release. Several are available at www.rwilco12.com.
- DiskInternals Linux Reader (must be installed on the Windows PC). You can download DiskInternals Linux Reader here.
- SGS2toEXT4 Utility available here. *Be sure to extract the JAR file from the ZIP archive.
- 7-Zip available here.
For the rest of the tutorial please visit my site: www.rwilco12.com
Enjoy!

You need to extract it from the img file by saving it. After extracting you'll need to package it in a ZIP.

Using windows Vista x64 the file is a I537UCUCNE3 stock odin image. I created a .img file using ext4 tool you posted but the Linux viewer says invalid
The image here shows my created .img file on the left, the Linux reader on the right and the error in the middle
This tutorial is no good anymore.
Finally !!
I found how do that after to waste a day to search one real solution.
Is only to use the ClassyKitchen free version for windows.
I found it here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/chef-central/android/tool-classykitchen-android-roms-t3862584
Basically, after to open the program, you will choose "create new project" on the tab "Projects utils", and choose the firmware from PC or from mobile root. So, the program will extract the folders and files to PROJECT/system folder, and you will can access them by windows explorer, including the app folder with all original apks.
I was looking for a way to restore the calculator apk after delete it before to find another to replace it.

[ROM] Windows 10 Mobile Build 10586.36 for Lumia 620

Finally is here! I managed to make a ROM from my Lumia 620 with the latest Windows 10 Mobile build. Here we go!
Windows 10 Mobile Build 10586.36 for Lumia 620 ROM
This Custom ROM is a build and then capture from Lumia 620 with Windows 10 Mobile Build 10586.36 using Windows Phone Internals developed by Heathcliff74. Only works with this Lumia, so don't test in other models, you can hardbrick your phone.
NOTES
This ROM is given "AS IS" and was scanned with MalwareBytes, Kaspersky and NOD32 to check if any malware was in zip file. If you download this file without password and/or CRC32/SHA-1 doesn't match with purposed behind, be careful, ROM could be altered and it would be risky for your phone. In that case, It doesn't come from me!
FILE DETAILS
Name: en_lumia620_Win10Mobile_Build10586.36_AppsUpdated_1-4-16.zip
Size: 1.452.675 KB (1.68 GB)
CRC32: 61FA13A0
SHA1: 8EF66EB5C3B925F7DBF51CEB6C707E36730DC6FF
Password: windowsphoneapps.es
Content: Data.bin file, MainOS.bin file and readme.txt.
Notes: Uncompress with 7Zip is recommended.
ROM DETAILS
ROM Base: 8.10.14219.314 / 3058.50000.1425.10479 / RM-846_eu_france_314.
Languages: English.
System Apps: Updated until 01/04/2016.
Microsoft Apps: Updated until 01/04/2016.
Some third party apps were uninstalled.
This ROM is very close to a stock one. It was free space cleaned up for best practice. It wasn't enabled Root access, so you can do that if you want.
BEFORE INSTALL THIS ROM...
Do a backup of your personal files. Installing this ROM will delete all information in your phone.
You must perform a bootloader unlock to your phone. IT'S NEEDED to flash device with this ROM. For more info, see "Getting Started" section from WPInternals, go to http://wpinternal.net or the official thread.
HOW TO INSTALL?
Open "WPInternals".
Select "Flash" option.
In "Flash ROM" section. click on "Select the source-file to flash to the phone" and select zip file.
Press "Flash custom ROM" button.
Wait until finish and press "OK" button.
Wait until phone starts in Normal Mode.
Go to Setting app > Accounts > Your email and accounts and set up your MSA.
Done!

Hi!
Small note: If you use the "Flash ROM" function of Windows Phone Internals, it allows you to select a Zip-file. If the Zip-file contains partition images (like your zip-file), it will extract the partitions on-the-fly and flash them straight to the phone. So you don't need to extract the partitions first. Windows Phone Internals will do that for you. It will decompress in-memory, so you don't need a lot of temporary space to extract the partitions.
Thanks for clarification, Cliff. Regards.
@MrCego,
Can i know how fast the rom is in Lumia 620? Are there any bad lags while using apps and such ?
It's the same Build 10586.36 recieved from Windows Insider. About build performance, it's ok, some bugs and little lags, but it's usable as well.

i agree but i was just thinking of a workaround, since it used to work on an older build which was on slow ring.
Maybe use that as base OS and fiddle with the feature tweaks.
Im just saying this as theory like we used to do on symbian.

If anyone still has the build on their phone, I'm sure the developers can make use of it. Maybe even use the registry to enable Astoria on newer builds since it doesn't work on them due to missing registry settings.

same thought ^
does slow ring still give that old build? or anyone have an image of it? xd
Maybe this ROM is the only one available in the world from build .36.
WPInternals fails to flash this ROM in "flash partitions" mode: "The size of partitions 'MainOS' and 'Data' together are too big", it also fails to flash ROM directly from ZIP archive.
I am flashing Nokia Lumia 620 (RM-846) with WPInternals 1.2 under Windows 8.1 x64
THX for any suggestions

Well if you mean like accessing and editing system files I'm not how to do edit them but I know that you can use a app like root explore: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.speedsoftware.explorer that's the free version the paid one is $3.99 in the US. With that you can move and add files to system folder you can edit permission of files and things of that nature.

Well system file is where all the data and software is at basically everything visible on the phone. Maybe this article could help it deals with modifying samsung rom and flashing it. If you want to read more on it here's the link: http://android.stackexchange.com/questions/85703/modifying-samsung-rom-and-flashing-it-on-a-device if you wanted to remove apps or add custom apps to your phone you would modify system file.
But what I thought was important was this;
(I did not write this thread)
< "You should be able to use an archive program on PC and recompress to .tar, .gz, and others. Dont forget to re-sign the archive. Keep a copy of your untouched ROM until you have the modified ROM tested and running.
The ROMs are signed with a signature. When repacking if they don't get signed they will fail in flashing. This link will help explain it.
So basically after downloading the firmware you have to rename it so you can extract the files, change them as you need, recompress them again and re-sign them, so you can flash them using Odin." >
This thread was dealing with modifying CM rom;
< "There are multiple solutions available:
Re-Zip the Image
Advantage: You do it once, and can use the resulting image for multiple devices. That's what I did with CM7.2 for my Milestone 2. Easy enough to do:
create a temporary (empty) folder
unzip the zip file to it
remove unwanted *.apk files from /system/apps (be careful of what you remove, of course)
zip up the directory contents again
Using a graphical ZIP manager (like WinZip or the like), steps would be even easier:
open the zip file with the archive manager
remove the unwanted .apk files
if the ZIP manager requires it, save the manipulated zip
Manually cleanup after flashing, using the shell
This is what ce4 recommended in the comments. It requires you using a terminal emulator on your device:
Flash the image as-is
remove superfluous stuff from the system partition by hand (like rm /system/big/junk/example.mp4)
Manually cleanup after flashing, using other tools
Almost the same as the previous method, but a bit more user-friendly. Disadvantage: this won't do for superflous ringtones and the like:
Flash the image as-is
Use a tool like Titanium Backup or Root Uninstaller to remove unwanted system apps" >
Edit: this link explains the signature of the file: (from google) https://code.google.com/archive/p/zip-signer/

Ok so I may have found a solution for you it requires a pc and to download a program. You'll need your rom and any apps you would like to insert into it. The program is as simple as right click and delete for any apps you want to remove. The program is made by a developer on XDA named "_Logie" here's the link to the Web page: http://m.tech.firstpost.com/news-analysis/how-to-add-or-remove-apps-from-a-custom-rom-101986.html and the link to the program is on there or here's the direct link: http://www.solidfiles.com/d/da2dd6335d/
This program compiles the ROM into a .zip if you have TWRP recovery you could do a backup of your previous rom before flashing your current one because you'll have to completely wipe every main partition before flashing new rom to ensure you don't run into problems
Edit: backup system, data, and cache because those are the ones you'll need to wipe also before wiping them just in case I would remove any password that locks your phone because if you try to flash a new rom and fails and your left with the recovery file it'll mess up the password, fingerprints will be forget and backup password will be unchangeable and will require a factory reset to be able to change it.

Hmmmmm ? I think you want to change the boot animation (white Verizon logo red background? ) if so your gonna need to either need to flash a pre-made zip with Flashfire (can't seem to get it to apply from twrp) or your gonna need to manually copy into the appropriate directory (mount system directory r/w copy then change permissions of the file you copied to 644 and reboot) presumably with a root explorer though doable from terminal

Try flashing with flasfire enabling the option mount system r/w and use common paths (probably not necessary but won't hurt) I have had difficulty getting anything other than ROM and gapps to apply from twrp but flashfire seems to work . I'm thinking its due to the fact that flashfire flashes after boot loader and then resets prior to os load.

[h815] Ripping OFF LGBloatware & Googleware from KDZ before flashing onto G4 ??

Friends !
I wanted to rip off some LG Software ( eg. Weather, Calender, Health etc) and ALL Google
Software from my KDZ File and flash this modified KDZ then onto my G4.
I´ve tested out some Custom Roms like LineageOS, Resurection and some other, all Google Free but they all drain out my Batterie fast or has some other issues.
The best working Rom for me is the Original V20g.
My G4 is rooted with Magisk. In TWRP i used GKillerExtreme.zip to eliminate all Google Stuff but after cleaning there are some Google Apps still on the Phone and can´t delete them.
So my Idea is to modify my KDZ file before flashing on the Phone.
------------------------------
I followed these Post to extract all Files from the KDZ:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2666967
After extracting the *.dz file also i have a lot of *.bin files now.
So, how to working on with these *.bin Files now, how to open them, delete some Files are contained in the *.bin File and rebuild a flashable File?
Maybe there is a existing workaround here on XDA ?
Thank you all for a little Help.

Don't know how you would rebuild it - I guess you would need to use a twrp script to flash them onto the partitions
As for modifying them, depends on the bin file. For system, you can mount it on Linux to a folder
E.g.
Code:
mkdir ./extractedSystem
sudo mount ./system.bin ./extractedSystem
Then you can access it through that folder. When you are done...
Code:
sudo umount ./extractedSystem
Extract: SALT
Mount: SALT (Advanced menu)
Flash: SALT (v4)
Ah yea and btw: you can't create your own kdz. Well you can but you can't flash it as it must be signed.

Thank you very much. To mount a bin file as a Drive in Linux (FWUL ) is the Key. All other steps i will find in the next Days. Thx again.

when you use FWUL SALT is included
the flashing part of SALT is still in beta testing state thats why v4 is not (public) available yet ..

Hey.
Doesnt work for me. Getting error in Terminal.
Mount: /home/android/extractedSystem: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/loop1, missing codepage or helper program, or other error.
So, im not so involved into Linux and have no idea whats wrong. Ive test with all .bin files but the error message pops up on every.bin file
My FWUL version is 2.7, the 8GB version on USB Stick.
Im pretty sure i did something wrong
Greetings
Ralf

Hey. My little response....
I did it and ripped off most of all the Bloatwares. Google is complete out off my Phone now and don't wont it back. It was a very hard and long process to eliminate all the Stuff. Alot of failures was coming up, alot of new image installings and start again over because i delered some Mainfeatures or essential Routines etc. OMG i don't want do this again in my life lol.
So its better to flash a google free Rom.
Okay, only my little response for this thread and Big Thanks to Steadyfast for the last Supports !
