A faster Google Reader app for Galaxy S - Galaxy S I9000 Themes and Apps

*** this is not an advertisement for an app and I have no stake in this app; just sharing my experience ***
As the other Galaxy S owners I hate the lag in my phone. This is true for many apps including the Google Reader apps for Android (official Google Reader as well).
I have tried a different Google Reader app "D7 Google Reader" which doesn't have any lag when run on my Galaxy S. It does have almost all the features available in the other reader apps, but the plus for us is no lag.
Do a search for "D7 Google Reader" in the market and you will find it.

So far so good. Though im waiting to get 100 or so articles to really test it out.
Does the pro version have a dark theme at all?

I don't think it has a dark theme. May be we can request the dev if that's a desired feature?

The latest version (both free and paid) seems to have theme support (light/dark) and lots of improvements.

Chrome, Youtube, Google+, Google Play Books (updates)

So I knew they would get updates today but just letting some people know I just checked and I had like 8 updates from the Play store. Chrome, Books, G+, Maps and a few other things I use all got updated.
Yep and the new YouTube is Awesome looking.
Edit. Damn Google + got a major UI overhaul too. Me likes.

hahaha yeah I just started to play with it freaking sweetness.
I don't like it all, everything is just too big now. It's like visual overload.
I wish there was a way to order the videos that show up in YouTube, before they were in order of when uploaded, now they are just random with no options

The offline maps feature can come in pretty handy when you lose cell reception. Good update in a long time that's actually useful.

Damn I just wish chrome had quick controls. So used to them can't use it without them
maps labs has allowed caching of 100 sq mile maps for months now. this isn't new, just expanded.
Loving G+ new UI.
Did you notice its so lookalike to the Facebook app UI. Hmmm

The new Google Maps is AMAZING! I just wish Chrome was compatible with Gingerbread!
Can someone please post an HD version of the latest YouTube app? They actually like our phones aren't HD capable when they clearly are. If not, I'll just continue to use my older version
Dang. It's great to be on ICS right now with all these updates.
Glad Google is doing it's best at I/O
YouTube app crashing on CM9 A5
Is anyone else having this issue?
I'm running CM9 Alpha 5 and all of these updates are good except YouTube which is crashing before opening. The only way to watch videos for me is within chrome.
Update: Solved by reinstalling the app from the new jelly bean market which imbonez9 posted here

Best Office Suite [Poll]

Hi Everyone,
I'm interested in all your opinions in a poll for the best Office Suite app (paid or free) to run on the Nexus 7.
My only real personal requirements are:
Google Drive integration
Full (as much as possible) editing of documents
Integrated fonts
Autosave
It's interesting to see that last month Google acquired Quick Office too!
Your thoughts...and more importantly reasons for your choice!
OP: good question. I was frankly quite disappointed that the new, improved Google Drive only allowed offline editing, but not offline document creation.
Galaxy Nexus / TMobile / Oakland
Thanks for the reply malcontent510, I had noticed that feature was lacking too and to me with the acquisition it is quite plain that eventually Quick Office + Drive will merge and it will be a force to be reckoned with. Until then one of the £5-10 ($7-15) range of apps will do the job I think, what was your personal pick?
on the phone I have experience with quick office, documents to go and preferred quick office.
On the tablet(nexus 7), I tried quick office pro hd and really like it so far.
I'm still learning how to use it but it is visually appealing to me & I love that I can sync my dropbox, box, drive accounts with it.
Vote= quick office pro hd

Thanks ateebtk, so can you open/save to/from Drive offline and then sync your saves when you're back online?
Are there several fonts included?

Alright..there are 19 fonts included.
Won't let you save file on drive without Wi-Fi.
You are forced to save on local storage without Wi-Fi.once you get Wi-Fi, you can easily drag files from local storage to the Google drive account very easily using the file explorer built in the app.

Does it Autosave in the background?
I like king soft office

Quite a few votes for Google Drive/Docs, I do like the app, but you can't work offline unlike the others...
phantasybm does KingSoft have Drive integration?
Bump
OnLive Desktop looks pretty good, only downside is the need for a decent internet connection.
Hey ben, that's a very interesting app! Very cloud based but if you were at home/in an office with Wi-Fi then it could be worthwhile.
I just came across this app in the store that you might want to check out as well...
CloudOn

How did you install Quick Office Pro HD on the tablet? The app page on Google Play says it's not compatible with the Nexus 7.

A full featured, MS office compatible office package would be the "unreleased" SoftMaker Office Mobile for Android.
They have a free release candidate version you can download from their website and try.
This is the only one I've ever found that's 100% compatible with Office 2007 and 2010 without any formatting changes, etc.
It's really a heavy package tho. it includes "word", "excel" and "powerpoint".
Interesting find compusmurf! Have you tested it?

Officesuite HD. Works really well and works with a number of cloud services.

I use OfficeSuite Pro- It was Amazon's free app of the day a few months ago and I have no real complaints with it. Nothing particularly spectacular about it either.
Does anyone know if the Google Drive app allows you to save directly to .docx/.xlsx?

Which Office App should I use for Nexus 7?

I installed a couple of Office Suite from Amazon Free App of the Day on my phone. I am wondering which one is the best for the Nexus 7. I can download other free alternative if it is even better. Thanks!
List of Office Suite that I have from Amazon:
OfficeSuite Professional 6
Quickoffice Pro
Documents to Go 3.0
Or should I go to a free one?
I like quick office pro, and I think I remember them being bought up by Google docs or something like that not too long ago. I can't remember I'll have to do some searching.

I have Office Suite Pro that I got for free.... so that's my only choice.
I used Polaris on my old transformer and I liked it. There is a really good comparison between the various office apps some where online. I think someone from the Asus transformer forums did it.
Some allow you to only read and not edit. I can't see really having to edit or create documents on the go, but I guess some people do. As long as I can open them, I'm good. Since you have access to them all, won't you simply try each one and tell us what you like better?

I have always used quickoffice pro on my 10" tablet, and I installed it on my nexus 7 and it works great. I also got those three office apps from amazon, and quickoffice pro seems to be the least buggy

CloudOn is one of the best office apps I've seen, although you need to be on wifi and have a box, dropbox or Google drive account (or all 3) as it only reads from cloud storage. They match the office ui almost exactly and have support for Excel, Word, and Power Point docs. Also it only works on tablets.
Sent from my Nexus 7
QuickOffice Pro HD is great, though you'll need to pull the APK off another device, it doesn't think it works on the N7.
Which office suite would be best for a student? I'm looking at Smart Office 2. Anyone tried it? I believe its on sale now for $1.98

Quick office HD.
Think it shows not compatible in the play store, but it works fine.
You can link it to all your cloud storage accounts.
It has really advanced features that mean you can create documents as if they have been made on the PC.
I think quick office were acquired by Google not so long ago but I might be wrong on that.

I have no idea how this is free. It's as full featured as the $15 apps. There are no ads or other bloatware.
Another vote for KingSoft, It's brilliant. I paid for it when they used to charge.

I like king soft but its very laggy. Anyone else ?
I posted a thread exactly like this and the general consensus was Quick Office Pro HD. I got off Amazon since it doesn't show up in the Play store. It works awesome, integrates with Dropbox too.

CNN app for tablet

The CNN app for android tablet is not compatible with the N7. I found an apk in the Viewsonic G Tablet thread but I'm not sure what version it is and that info doesn't seem available in the app either. Here's the original thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13048857&postcount=9
Does anyone have a current version to share?
Thanks!

Want this bad!! its crazy- cnn for phone isn't compatible either, what are they thinking I mean the nexus 7 is the most popular android tablet (with market) and they have no support for it.
also the economist app has the same issue.
I had emailed them about this months ago and this is the response I finally got:
"Greetings,
Thanks for contacting CNN! We appreciate you taking the time to send in your suggestion for the CNN app. I will put this suggestion into our mobile development team for consideration.

Dave

I don't mean to sound overly critical but... why not just use RSS? Ever since Google Reader, I no longer understand why anybody would prefer to manually open each website to check for news, when Reader does that for you...

This is actually a far better idea: I tried side-loading the CNN app off of my Galaxy SIII and it looks terrible. You're better off reading the articles on the Web through Chrome or through an RSS reader such as Paper.

There is a cnn money tablet version that does feature news(can configure what news you get. Albeit it's a bit more focused to the financial side but delves into other news topics.

I was able to send myself the CNN apk with myappsharer (free in the play store) and install it on the N7 that way. Works fine.

Book app recommendations

I'm looking for an app that can read both epub and PDF books, has night mode or even allows for changing colors, and has access to local storage. I've been incredibly unsuccessful in finding an app that does all of this so I'm here to ask the only community I know for recommendations.
What are your suggestions?
Sent from my SM-T700 using Tapatalk
I am using Bookari (previously named Mantano), which is quite powerful, even in the free version. Only downside of the free verison is the repeated question of upgrading to the pro version, almost at every start.
Best, maris
I'll give it a try. Thanks!
I use FBReader, it has modules that add format compatibility. It is also a multi platform reader if that matters to you. I've used the free version for a long time but have now bought the pro version to show appreciation for the developers.

Aldiko reader reads both has nice book shelf
Moon+ reader pro. It has syncing ability which is important to me. There is also a free version.

I think I've decided on Moon+ Reader. Easy UI and everything I was looking for. I did like FBReader though. Unfortunately, the UI was horrendous in my opinion.
Thank you all for the suggestions!
