Ok, I finished rooting/packaging JME for yous guys.
If you want to install ClockWorkMod, use CF-Root as its tested to work with Roto-JME and it does not change your filesystem format!
Get it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10053743&postcount=1
Flash CF-Root after Roto-JME has completed its installation rebooting and you test that Roto-JME is working ok.
These firmwares are for any GSM Tab, whether you have protected bootloaders or not. They don't contain and won't install protected bootloaders either.
All the files are here:
http://files.deodexed.com/ModADroid-Galaxy-Tablet/Rotohammer/JME/
Please backup your apps and settings with Titanium Backup from the market.
Write down ALL your current APN settings in Settings/Wireless/Mobile/Access Point Names/, the one with the green dot next to it. There is 14 settings in all.
New Jan 9, 2011 Roto-JME-v4
Fixes:
Full landscape Swype
OpenVPN works with CF-Root
Diodict FC fix
added car home
added all language locales
full version wipes sdcard
slipped Program Monitor widget back in
Code:
619fc4b3cb21ebd9cce0ca2dc827d8e1 Roto-JME-Full-v4.zip
a945da9d28945132de1f509d1a1ee51b Roto-JME-Upgrade-v4.zip
From the feedback I've got so far, if you run a stock or JJx version firmware, you must flash the Full firmware with the pit file. If you have any JMx firmware currently, then you can flash the Upgrade firmware without the pit file.

Addon-JME-Modem.zip: modem P1000XXJMA (big deal, from early December)
I recommend you wipe your Dalvik cache if you get any fc's after startup. Heres how:
Code:
adb shell su -c "rm /data/dalvik-cache/* && reboot"
New Jan 1, 2011
The following 2 firmwares are a start on the way to a custom rom. I removed several stock apps to make room for the Gallery3D app that doesn't consume 100% cpu (but instead fc's on remounting sdcard), and added the Ebook reader from the hidden.tar.

The new downloads:
Roto-JME-Upgrade-v2.zip
Roto-JME-FmtIntSD-v2.zip
If you already flashed Roto-JME (upgrade or full), just re-flash with the Roto-JME-Upgrade-v2.tar to get the new apps and not loose any settings.
(other than the home screen, but you can restore that from Titanium Backup right?)
The best option is to backup all your data/apps, flash Roto-JME-FmtIntSD.tar with the PDA button and partition with P1_add_hidden.pit. Flash the Addon-JME-Modem with the Phone button as well, or some other modem of your choice, as its going to be erased due to partitioning. Thats a nice clean setup, guaranteed to work the best
Use the upgrade if you already have a lot of apps installed and you feel lucky. Don't use the pit file with the upgrade firmware. Worst case is you flash the whole enchilada later. Backup your data anyways before hand.
Flash using Odin, using PDA button for any file you flash. If you need/want to flash the addons too, use the PHONE and CSC buttons, they all do the same thing.
Note: Anyone who flashed a previous Roto-JME-Upgrade.tar and now wants the *#1234# to show the correct values, just re-download/re-flash this file and you'll be fixed.

To get the customary question out of the way, by "everyone," you mean all carriers and locations can use this package?
You, sir, are a steely eyed missile man.
I don't have the thanks button (I run the classic theme) but consider yourself thanked.

I was referring to the bootloaders, but, these firmwares are for any GSM Tab.
Is this fast like jmc? I read some people complaining about lag with flash in this rom? Differences youvee seen vs jmc please. Thanks. Anyway to build these to flash through clockworkmod? To streamline the way to do it? I am on the edge of returning my tab i feel the lag is causrd by the increased resolution and the processor is loaded trying to keep up. Maybe im wrong. I am currently stock with root and oclf installed. I was going to try roto-jmc tonight before making up my mind. I still have hope for this tab after seeing nero v3 on wifes vibrant its blazing fast.

ClockworkMod only works with a stock firmware at the moment. Flashing with Odin is pretty easy though. Just like all the past Android phone, things start off sluggish but as more developers jump onboard, device performance increases. JME feels the best to me so far.
Someone like you could give us a better review of JME since you strongly know what you dislike about stock.
Roto you are the man!

Thanks roto...did upgrade from JMC to JME plus the cashe...so now got all samsung apps..not just the 2 like many reported....seems fine at present...so hopefully stay that way...
Thanks again roto..

I've been using JME for about one hour now and I wanted to post my first impressions. It is definitely snappier than JMC, but other than that I have not found any other advantages. Still no Samsung boot logo (not a big deal), but I am glad that I upgraded.
Hey Roto, just want to say thanks for all the awesome work you do for our Galaxy Tabs. You've made my experience that much more enjoyable. I would like to know if it is safe to flash your JME update package over the JM6 firmware I have now or do I need to flash something else first before I do JME.
Ill flash it tonight and let you know rotohammer
Only questions i have is.
Can i get back to stock? T-Mobile usa
Also will this make call after flashing your jme i only use it for wifi currently so 2g isnt a biggie yet

Yes, I posted the files to get back to stock T-mobile. Yes, you'll be able to make calls, but not with the T-Mobile internet only SIM card though.

That's pretty weird, I am stuck on Samsung logo at start, even though Odin tells me the flash was successful...
I am coming from JMC and just ran the upgrade...
Edit: reflashed it just in case, same story. I get the Samsung animated screen and then get to the Samsung logo where it stays stuck.. (Gives a vibration and blinks every 30sec that's all)

Try flashing:
Use the PIT included in the original post.
This will enable Reformat, that is fine.
PDA: Roto-JME-FmtIntSD
CSC: Addon-JME-Hidden
Phone: (whatever modem you need)
Flash. You shouldn't have any issues then.
If you are upgrading, its common to get these issues and you're pretty much stuck without doing a restore and losing ur data anyways. Thats why Roto recommends you do a titanium back up BEFORE flashing.

Mmh ok so my only way to go through is to erase everything
I did back up a few stuff (Not everything) but that's a pain... Unlucky I guess...
That said I didn't check in detail but I guess Titanium backs up everything on the SD Card so I should not let it be reformated, no ?
Hi there,
I just got my Galaxy Tab 2 days ago. I am with bell, and it is not on any contract...
I currently have a galaxy s (although it is in at bell for repair (internal sd issue)).
Do i first need to flash to JM6 before flashing to JME (as provided in the thread: Flashing Guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=886714)?
If i do, what files am i supposed to flash with? Or should i wait until the guide has been updated with the correct files?
Thanks to anyone who is able to help!
I've been using my tab with your new firmware for 2 hours and it's a blissful experience! Everything works perfectly and smoothly. 2010 finishes happily
Thank you.

Hey guys,
I recently flashed Doc's Froyo 7.6.1 and previously 7.5 and 7.6. On all versions I've been getting instant 100% force close on incoming calls.
I flashed JPA version and JPO both with same result.
Can anyone help me?
I've tried flashing original bell modem a la "JPK + JH2 modem" over Doc's Froywhich just took away the R symbol for roaming but calls still instantly force closing..
Interestingly enough, i can make calls and everything else works 100%.
I have avoided using ODIN for anything else because I know the i9000m series + odin = corrupt SD after a while...
Any suggestions or help? I dont get what could be causing these issues as I''ve seen other people flash Doc's froyo and have no problems what so ever...
Thanks
Seven
U P D A T E :
Thanks to all the guys who provided real help and support. It appears the solution to this problem is quite simple.
Steps:
1. Reboot into CWM recovery (the one that comes with Doc Rambone's froyo builds..)
2. Select Advanced CWM features
3. Clear Dalvik Cache
4. Reboot phone
5. Pure win! (fixed)
Jh2 full rom or jg8 full as well with odin unfortunately, no repartition, then proceed to reset to factory. After you have tested everything is fine proceed to flashing 7.62. And never reset while on froyo roms till we get bell froyo. Do not keep jh2 modem on froyo.
Sent from my i9000M
Ok, gonna give that a try.
Just re-flashed stock JH2, just finished factory reset. All go now gonna drop the SIM in and then try to call my phone and see what goes down..
It should work, then I should do what? install clockwork, reflash 7.6.1 doc froyo and it should work? Which one did you flash? JPA or JPO?
Should i keep the standard modem that comes with JPA/JPO froyo or should it just work straight out of the box?
Thanks a lot for the help man..

update:
This didn't fix much.
Flashed stock jh2 like u said. everything works on that perfectly. flashed 7.6.2... FC instantly on calls..
I know there were some people experiencing the same things... any solutions?
put sim in, call yourself, put apn's for fido test for 850 3g do all the tests while youre on eclair. then get clockwork and flash 7.62. feeling im repeating myself so read up lol. any modem will do as long as its froyo cause if you stay on eclair jh2 modem minor anoyance is you wont see signal sternght in setting but more importantly battery will be **** cause phone will never truly sleep with it.. right now using jpd modem that comes with jpd firnware but had no problem with 7.62 jpp either although some reported great reception with reduced battery life.
again avoid firmware reset while on froyo cause youll most likely lose 850 that way.

I'm not sure this occured with 7.5.. Damn it though now I can't remember.
Gonna try that again and see whats up. Crap I hope i dont corrupt my SD..
this is my second galaxy S.
So you haven't tried with 7.6 or 7.6.1, 7.6.2?
will do now. not calling myself at this hour though
well just put on vibrate mang this info could really prove useful.
So you're going to update right now? if you do... just put it on vibrate and phone yourself real fast plzz
thanks for the help mang, you rock
dont even have another phone guy. not waking up the wife trying to steal hers.
Ok.. 7.6 and up cause instant Force Close on i9000m.
7.5 works absolutely flawlessly. Thank god I kept all the files mang. Going back to that and hope i never have to touch this crap ever again.
that is odd, i don't have the same problem as you. ill leave my phone specs here if it helps you in any way. i'm also running doc7.6.2 with kernal 2.6.32.9

My gf's phone went through the upgrade to 7.6.2 and no issues so far. This is the steps, she went from stock JH2:
1) Copy the ROM, update.zip to internal SD
2) Reboot phone to recovery, reinstall package to load CWM
3) Choose ROM zip file and install
4) Choose to reboot to recovery (load the ULF kernel CWM)
5) Choose RFS Overkill (a=ext 4)
6) Choose factory reset without backup
7) Reboot the phone, done!
You might want to try re-dowload the ROM, and sometimes the files are corrupted in these free-storage sites. I will send a PM to Doc so that he can post checksum on all the files.

I tried many diff configurations. stock to 7.6.2, stock to 7.6, then to 7.6.1.. I also tried, original stock to 7.5 to 7.6 then to 7.6.1 and then .2.. none of them worked (as in, instant force close on incoming calls) except for stock to 7.5 which worked perfectly.
I followed the instructions exactly as instructed on Doc's thread and this is not the first time i hear about force close on incoming calls.. it must be something thats not compatible as I also tried Dark's froyo and also force close on incoming calls.
I'm sticking with 7.5 JPA as it works perfectly and battery life is great. No lag fixes or file system changes as this is one of the suspected things to further exasperate the corruption of internal SDs on the i9000m. As I'm on my second phone, I'm not risking anything.. No need for a lag fix anyways... Tw3 by GTG makes the interface speedy and it works much better than all other launcher alternatives out there

I read the first post..
you mean the part where he gives a warning saying that it may not work on other version of the i9000? or what?
Thanks for your useful help though. Golden advice from a delicate genius.
I have a successful story to share of running the latest EU Froyo roms on a Galaxy S with Optus. The end result is a perfectly functioning phone running an i9000XXJPO rom, able to use MMS, 3G and the Marketplace, all of which I have seen numerous reports of difficulty with.
This guide is intended for people on Optus, but is mostly the same for those on other networks as almost all the steps are identical, with the exception of CSC files (which are available for other operators at the link provided) and the optional installation of the Optus MyAccount app. I imagine the same process is applicable to any other current or future update roms from overseas carriers as well.
Hopefully this is useful to a few people - it would be good to have all the information in the once place seeing as the documentation on this kind of stuff is sparse, and scattered uselessly throughout various forum threads on a million boards. Just thought I should share the information before it's forgotten
Requirements
Ensure you have the latest drivers
Samsung Mobile Driver 1.3.800
I have had plenty of issues with the Galaxy and Kies under Win7 64-bit. If you are running another operating system you may not have to bother with this step, but I'd always recommend latest drivers anyway. As of the time of this writing, the *only* driver I've had any luck with is 1.3.800, the earlier ones that ship with Kies (and even the subsequent first update) suffer from USB connection recognition problems and missing device drivers and all sorts of annoyances.
Grab latest Odin3
Odin 3 v1.3
Don't use 1.0, it's a flaky and awful thing and you might take 14 attempts to get a successful flash before you go looking for 1.3, like I did. Not that it really matters, these things are impossible to brick. I even had my pc go into standby and disconnect the USB halfway through flashing once and it just held out its arms for another go.
Grab the required firmwares and .pit files
A fantastic list (with downloads) on this page: http://www.samfirmware.com/WEBPROTECT-i9000.htm
You have to register but apparently it doesn't mind bugmenot accounts much. My best build runs the I9000XXJPO rom, which is the latest XX UK stock rom available at time of writing. I had better luck with this than with XW variants, but your mileage may vary. Flashing to Froyo requires two steps, however, so we must also get the UK Eclair I9000XWJM8 rom to flash to first.
The .pit files you need are also on that page, although we don't need the middle version for our purposes, only s1_odin_20100512.pit and s1_odin_20100803.pit
For root access, you should grab the equivalent kernel replacement rom from this thread. I found the update.zip method was very unreliable and often wouldn't allow the process, so flashing a new kernel is a much simpler and easier solution in the end. For our JPO rom we of course want CF-Root-XX_XEU_JPO-v1.2-Busybox-1.17.1.
Get carrier-specific code (CSC) rom
This thread has a list of CSCs for different operators, with download links. The one relevant to our JPO rom is CSC_I9000OPSJG1.
This is the step that will save you a lot of hassle. Doing this preconfigures your phone to your operator - imagine how surprised I was to turn on my new UK phone only to have it automatically setup for Optus' internet and MMS?
Grab (or backup) any important APKs
One-Click-Lagfix 2.2.8 is something you should definitely install and do after flashing. My quadrant benchmark is at 1850 under normal operations (meaning, without killing all my background apps, tasks etc) with this applied, which I am pretty happy with for the simplicity of this fix. Note that doing this requires a rooted phone, so don't skip that step if you plan on lagfixing.
If you're with them, you might also want Optus' MyAccount app, which is the only piece of bloat they put on there that I actually found useful.
How-to
Step 1: Backup your stuff, and ensure your phone can connect to your pc
Use whatever backup app you prefer to save your APKs, application data and user data. Personally I use MyBackup Pro, but I hear good things about Titanium Backup. MyBackup requires root access in order to restore application settings, which I was mildly surprised about even though it makes total sense considering where it has to save those files. I'm not sure about Titanium but I imagine it would be the same.
If you've just installed drivers, connect your phone, make sure it is recognised, eject and disconnect it and then reboot.
Step 2: Ream your phone
Pull your sim card and SD card out, as leaving those in will cause the whole process to fail. I performed several flashes before reading a thread that warned me of this.
Step 3: Get ready
Hold down volume down, home and the power button when you turn your phone on and it should be in download mode, showing a big angry exclamation mark. Extract all the files you just downloaded somewhere, ready to be used. Open Odin3 on your PC.
Step 4: Flash Eclair rom
Don't change any of the settings in Odin3, except to set the following:
Re-Partition: on
PIT: s1_odin_20100512.pit
PDA: CODE_I9000XWJM8.tar.md5 (from I9000XWJM8 rom archive)
PHONE: MODEM_I9000XXJM4.tar.md5 (from I9000XWJM8 rom archive)
CSC: CSC_I9000OPSJG1.tar.md5 (or your own CSC rom)
Hit 'Start' and wait for things to finish. Your phone should eventually reboot, scroll some yellow text up the screen and then start up. Do NOT unplug it until you get into a working desktop. If it fails, just pull out the USB, pull your phone's battery and put it back in download mode, then restart Odin3 and try again.
Step 5: Flash Froyo rom
Close and reopen Odin3, and set the following:
Re-partition: off (no change)
PIT: s1_odin_20100803.pit
PDA: JPO_JPO_U_JPP.tar (I9000XXJPO rom file)
Hit 'Start' as for step 4. This shouldn't take quite as long as the first time round since it's only upgrading the PDA firmware. If it fails now, however, you'll have to start with an Eclair rom again.
Step 6 (optional): Flash root-enabled kernel
Re-partition: off (no change)
PIT: none (no change)
PDA: CF-Root-XX_XEU_JPO-v1.2-Busybox-1.17.1.tar
Repeat the flashing process one more time. This should only take a second, since it's just replacing the kernel.
Step 7: Restore data, apply lagfix etc
That's about it, really... just restore your data in whatever way you prefer and run those APK's for the lagfix and MyAccount. You now have a beautifully working Froyo Galaxy S running in Australia!
I've been running this now for 5 days, no problems whatsoever. A friend (also on Optus) followed the same process and is having the same level of success. I'd like to point out that the gain in battery life alone is well worth the upgrade, I've gone from 60-70% drain during a day at the office with Eclair down to 20-25%, pretty good! But best of all it's stock firmware so you don't have to have Optus' ****ty smiley button on the keyboard
Excellent post in the wrong section.
Thanks but not needed
This thread is not really needed, had no trouble following everybody's international posts, using international firmwares, roms, fixes.
No need for a region specific how to. Good idea for a easy to follow guide but isn't that what the stickies are for?
Im on optus and I just dl jpd asian version from samfirmware and followed there instruction s for odin. Froyo runs fine. Apn backup for the optus specific sms and 3g stuff. Although asian rom it defaulted to english Language after I inserted the sim. Same quadrant score as yours using ryanza lagfix.

The latest Odin is Odin3 1.7. See my signature for the link.
hey guys i am thinking in update my I9000 to froyo but do you recommend a stock rom? i dont understand too much about it but it seems like there are better roms out there, with ext4 support and more...
can anybody gimme some info please!
BTW thx for the guide seems very easy
Also in, Australia however I simply used the register kies hack to flash xejpo and that was is, all my settings saved market was fine... Did a factory reset, after backup but no dramas.

cheers guys, glad it is working for others as well.
Sorry, where should i move this? Saw other [howto] threads in here so just assumed.. :-/
Leave it, Although I got my phone working using other methods. I will in future point to this thread for my newb friends with Galaxy S's . Its basicly perfect for people who havn't been following forum for the last 4 months
Wow, Worked perfectly with Odin 1.7. I just had to restart the computer each time.
I'm assuming I run the APK's for the lagfix and MyAccount with Odin under PDA???
Thanks heaps.
While this may not apply to me and I'm doing alright with my Galaxy S, this is an incredibly simple and well-worded guide to follow. Very nice.
hi, just completed this. worked quite well.
i am with vodafone i am having trouble connecting to my packet data now for some reason? any ideas? i have used these settings hxxp://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1498279
i used the csc that you listed.
any ideas?
i am able to make calls just not access internet??
How do I get the smily button for SMS typing?
I didn't need to go to JM8 then JPO. Went straight to JPO, flashed YA OK or what ever its called and away I went. Battery life has gone to the **** house. Id be lucky to get 2 - 3 days anymore. I was getting 5 days with my use(phone calls and sms minor fb).
I'll state again: if you you use the registry hack with kies you get xxjpo froyo and keep all of your Australian apn csc settings. The only glitch doing this is swype which vibrates and lags your phone however simply disabling and then re-enabling after a boot fixes this. Surely one fladh update with kies which took 30 seconds is by far the easiest method. I didn't even needed to factory reset, kept all my apps and settings.
I have since used odin to flash the voodoo kernel.

wow i didnt even see your reply earlier, wish i had.
can i undo what i have done and just do the registry hack? actually that wont work now will it? as all my original data is already gone
thanks for this!
News
1/31/11: v0.1 is released; initial beta.
-A JS3-based ROM with a focus on simplicity, stability, speed, and battery life.
Hello XDA.
I wanted to create a ROM on the latest firmware with an emphasis on simplicity, stability, and speed, and battery life. I wanted to be able to customize the ROM without the use of extra software, gimmicks, or any unnecessary tool. I wanted it to be as close to the stock ROM as possible (in terms of appearance, not performance), with only the bloatware removed, and a few key applications added. I also wanted it to be blazing fast without sacrificing battery life.
So, I started working on seeARMS' XWJS3. This ROM gives users the choice of installing their preferred kernel, modem, bootanimation, etc, and using either a wipe / non wipe version (and soon: themes, applications, everything) simply by deleting and renaming a few files.
Using a handful of shell scripts, this ROM checks for, say, the SpeedMod kernel (named "speedmod") in your SD card. If it's found, it installs the speedmod kernel. If you prefer Super Optimized Kernel, that's alright: leave the file named "sok" and delete the other kernels. This ROM will automatically install whichever kernel you choose, without the need to use additional tools or software.
Note before proceeding: This is the initial BETA release, so there are bound to be bugs. I've been running this build for a few days and everything's been fine, but that isn't to say it's completely bug-free. Have a backup on hand in case anything goes wrong.
Also, read the first few posts before asking a question, as I'll try to address everything I can. When you are posting a question/problem, please include the logfile located at "seearms/log/seearms.log" (if it exists). If it doesn't exist, please say so.

Installation Instructions
Before installing, make sure to disable any lagfixes, create any backups that you need, etc.
Long version:
1. Extract the downloaded file to the root of your SD card.
2. Navigate to the "seearms/kernel" folder, and here you should see 3 files: sok for Super Optimized, voodoo for Advanced Voodoo, and speedmod for the SpeedMod kernel. Delete two of them, leaving only the one that you want to install.
3. Navigate to the "seearms/modem" folder, and here you should see 2 files: jl2 and jpy. For Canadians, or other users who want the use of the 850MHz band, leave the "jl2" file untouched, and delete the jpy file. For everyone else, delete jl2 and leave jpy.
4. Navigate to the "seearms/extra" folder. Here you should see nexus_bootanimation, and a "wipe" file. Leave the bootanimation untouched if you want the Nexus S bootanimation, and leave the wipe file if you want the ROM to format /data.
So, before installing, you should have one file in kernel, one file in modem, and anything in extra, depending on your preferences.
5. Boot into CWM or Recovery 2e, select "Install from zip", navigate to the ROM you copied, and install.
I'd recommend the following files left untouched:
seearms/kernel/speedmod
seearms/modem/jpy
seearms/extra/wipe
This will install the SpeedMod kernel, JPY modem, and will wipe your data to allow for a brand new install.
Short version:
1. Extract the downloaded file to your SD card.
2. Delete any kernel and modem you don't want, leaving only 1 in each folder.
3. Delete seearms/extra/wipe if you don't want it to wipe. Delete anything else in this folder you don't want.
4. Boot to CWM, flash the zip.
After it boots, I'd recommend doing a few things to ensure your phone is as fast as possible:
1. Enable the EXT4 lagfix in recovery
2. Enable all tweaks in recovery
3. Overclock if you wish using SetCPU

If you're on stock Froyo (ie: not running Eclair with recovery 2e or ClockworkMod) then you might have to do a bit more work before installing any custom ROM. Just follow these steps:
1. Download Odin from here.
2. Download the latest Super Optimized kernel (or any other kernel that has CWM) in the attachments. Make sure to download the Odin kernel, not the CWM one!
3. After downloading, extract the .TAR file from the file you just downloaded.
4. Open Odin, and turn off your phone. Connect your phone to your PC via USB, and enter download mode by holding volume down + home + power.
5. Odin should detect your phone. Load up the .TAR file in the "PDA" box in Odin. Make sure the other boxes are left blank. Untick "Repartition". Start flashing.
6. Your phone should automatically reboot with the new kernel! To double check, shut it off and boot into recovery. If you see CWM recovery, you're successful!
After doing this, follow the normal steps to install this rom.
Q2 - I have a Bell Galaxy S, and I'm afraid of my phone bricking! What can I do to prevent it?
Click to collapse
It isn't entirely known right now why the phones are bricking; some say it's a hardware issue involving the motherboard, whereas others say it's strictly a software issue. Both Samsung and Bell have stated that the new firmware, JL2, fixes this problem and will prevent the internal SD card from dying. However, there have still been reports of phones running the JL2 firmware and dying (albeit much, much less reports).
A bit more technical: Included in the stock JL2 firmware from Bell is a new secondary boot loader (Sbl.bin). This deals with the phone at boot-time; it handles three button recovery, etc. Typically, the Sbl isn't included in a new ROM, as nothing needs fixing and the boot loader doesn't need touching. Except for this time! The Sbl.bin is apparently the file which fixes the internal SD card problem.
So, if you're wondering what to do in order to prevent your phone from dying, your best bet would be to flash the JL2 firmware using Kies (or Odin if you know what you're doing - tick bootloader update), then you're basically free to flash any other firmware you wish (except for firmwares which contain the Sbl.bin, because that would overwrite the current Sbl. But, every custom ROM and essentially every stock ROM lacks this file, so you're fine to flash anything).
Again, I'm going to restate that not everything is known involving this problem and the above is based on my own research. A handful of people have done this and have still had their phones die.
Q3 - I'm encountering force-close issues, and general app issues right after installation.

If you installed the ROM without wiping, try leaving the "wipe" file untouched so the ROM performs a completely clean install. If you're still encountering issues after doing this, boot into recovery, perform a factory reset, and clear the cache + Dalvik cache.
Q4 - My GPS isn't working! It takes forever to lock and displays my position inaccurately!

Try clearing the GPS data on your phone. Do the following: (Original poster unknown. Reposted by dpvu.)
1) Enter *#3214789650# into the dialpad.
2) Under "Application Settings" set the Start Mode to Coldstart.
3) At the main menu "Delete GPS Data".
4) At the main menu "Get Position Test".
If you're still not finding many satellites try setting Operation Mode to "MS Based" in the "Application Settings". I did all of this then set the GPS back to hot start.
Lastly, if you desperately want to fix your GPS, try flashing the JK4 modem. There have been different reports, but it has been regarded by some as the best modem for GPS. To flash it, download the modem, and use Odin to select the "modem.bin" file in the PHONE box. Go to Settings -> About on your phone after flashing and look at Baseband to ensure it flashed correctly.
Download the JK4 modem from the Downloads section. http://www.multiupload.com/3HOKWMBHO2
Q5 - My battery is running out very, very quickly!
Click to collapse
There are many, many things which may cause the battery to run out quickly. I'll go over a few of the problems here:
1. After a fresh install of a ROM, the battery may be uncalibrated. Try charging your phone, and use it normally until it discharges. Repeat this 2-3 more times; your battery meter should be accurate again.
2. Clearing your batterystats.bin has been said to help fix the problem, and improve battery life by a lot. Charge your phone to 100%, then boot to recovery and clear batterystats.bin (by selecting wipe battery stats). Reboot, and use your phone normally until it shuts off by itself. After it does, charge it up fully, and you're good to go.
However, it's worth stating a few things: the above method has been put down by some users, who state that the batterystats.bin only contains a history of the battery usage and nothing more. Also, the Galaxy S contains a Li-Ion battery, which technically shouldn't be fully discharged (in order to extend the life of the battery). Do the above at your own risk.
For a few more fixes, please visit this thread.
Q6 - What's all this talk about the 850MHz band and modems?
Click to collapse
The 850MHz band is a 3G band which apparently has better range and reliability (as opposed to the higher frequency 1900MHz band). It's basically only used in Canada (and I guess Australia?) but cell carriors like AT&T in the US are trying to make it the standard. Because of this, the i9000 International (not the Bell Galaxy S, i9000M) doesn't have the functionality to connect to the 850MHz band.
To get back this band, you have two options: flash any international ROM (JPY, JPX, JPO, etc), then flash a Canadian modem (JK4, JL2) afterwards. The second option is a lot easier: just install a ROM that contains a Canadian modem already (ie: this ROM, or stock JL2).

Thank you.
Nice job seeARMS! It is running well so far (speedmod + JL2 modem).
I want to use SOK and overclock it but I can't seem to disable the VSF that is included with the kernal.
Your rom also works with the Generation X theme, which includes the extended power menu too! The AOSP lockscreen included could still be unlocked with the menu key but the Gen X theme solved that. Have you seen the 4 lockscreen? It looks very nice but I can't seem to find it.
Keep up the good work!
Hey found a bug every time i install anything from samsung apps it vibrates and then takes me to the bootanimation screen going to flash it again and see
ok tried it again i can't install any apps even from market

Not sure how to disable it since I don't use SOK, but try setting the file "/sys/devices/platform/s3cfb/VSF_enable" to 2. This should disable VSF.

That's odd, I've installed many apps just fine. Try clearing the market cache by going to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > Market, then select "Clear Data" and "Clear Cache".
If that doesn't fix it, a factory reset would almost certainly.
Hi seeARMS,
As you know, I am currently running your custom JL2 ROM as I am with Bell, etc and I am loving it except for the speedmod kernel as that VSF function just drives me crazy so I flashed one of Hardcore's kernels instead.
I have read your info on this JS3 ROM and I am curious and may like to flash it to see what it is all about but I have a question.
Obviously my base is the Bell JL2 and in saying that I should have the .SBL file that I need in order to keep my SGS from bricking (or so the theory goes) so my question is... If I want to flash this JS3 ROM, do in need to first install the JS3 firmware and then flash your ROM "OR" can I just download the .zip file, make my modifications (as described in your instructions for kernel, bootload animation, wipe, etc) and flash directly over my current seeARMS ROM / JL2 and keep my important JL2 items?
Sorry if this question is confusing but as my signature says... Im still a bit of a NOOB and still learning.
Also... Still waiting for my Blue theme for your JL2 ROM! LOL!!!

To flash this ROM, all you need to do is download the zip, follow the instructions, and flash it from CWM recovery. This will leave your secondary boot loader untouched, hopefully preventing your phone from getting bricked. The only way your Sbl.bin would ever get overwritten would be if you flashed a ROM in Odin that contains the Sbl.bin, with "Bootloader Update" checked. (Or, updating it from Kies to a ROM that has the Sbl).
So, you're generally quite safe regarding the secondary boot loader.
Lol, sorry about the theme :/ Good news is, if you flash this ROM, you should be able to flash the blue theme right after installing it without me needing to port it over. (If it's compatible with JS3, which I'm pretty sure it is.)

Ok, so... Would you say in your EXPERT opinion that me flashing this onto a Canadian i9000M is safe?
Also... When and where do I make my modification to the install .zip file? Do I download the package to my desktop, make the modifications and then move it to my internal SD card "OR" do I download the package directly to my internal SD card, navigate to the package (with Astro for example), make my modifiactions from there and THEN flash?
Please advise...
PS... Id still like to see the blue theme available for the JL2 ROM just incase I get too chicken to try this JS3 one... LOL.
Hey yiannis.
Here's what I did:
Download to computer. Unzip it to the sd card when, plugged into computer. And just under my computer, I deleted the files I didn't need. Also, remember to disable lagfix beforehand

I'd say it's quite safe. While building this ROM I flashed my device well over 30 times, and it's still running great. My previous SGS I flashed less than 10 times and it died, so I'd wager it's perfectly safe.
And it really doesn't matter where you do the modifications. It's probably easier to just copy the files over to your internal SD card, delete anything you don't want using your PC, then simply flash the ROM.
(Yes I know clean isn't spelled with a K)
Well, I've been working on my personal ROM for quite a while now, since there isn't much out there for us VZW users, I've decided to share. This might work on sprint, but I haven't tried. Sprint users should stay away unless they really know what they're doing. As normal, it's not my fault if you fubar your tab by flashing this or if zombies come and speedhump your cat. You've been warned.
Preamble
1. Don't ask me on how to install koush's recovery, that's what his thread is for. Laymen's terms- Did you do THIS? If you did, you're good to go, if not. do it.
2. I am not going to teach you how to use, or set up the applications that you need to use/flash this. I have included links to everything you need to know, just click and read for a second. If you are not willing to put out a little bit of effort to better your experience with your Tab, I am not going to waste even more of my time that could be dedicated towards making my ROM better. Also, if you aren't willing to give yourself the fundamental knowledge required for flashing this and something goes wrong, you will then have the required skill to fix it, instead of blaming me for bricking your Tab. I don't need that. I am willing to support my ROM and help with some confusion, but if you want me to do everything for you- lo siento.
About This ROM
There's not too much to say about it. It's DJ11 with almost 100MB of bloat ware, Verizon/Samsung crap and worthless other nonsense pulled out and the good bits updated with parts of the EURO updates/dumps. I have also done some other mods and optimizations.
Features
Updated Samsung apps from newer GSM ROMS! (The only way you can currently experience the updates on your CDMA device)

Changelog
v3 - Installation Update
Not much has actually changed about this ROM, I started to theme it, I stopped, I need to replace the zips with the stock again
CWM flashable zip install method has been uploaded for ease of flashing
v2 - Application Update
Lots of apps integrated from the GSM JMI Dump from Rotohammer. As usual I have deodexed and zipaligned the apks. There are some nice updates in the task manager, Contacts, Calendar, email and several other apps.
v1 - Initial Public Release
I was having some core issues with previous versions, but I've been running for well over 12 hours now without a problem.
If people paying for the data plans would report back to confirm all wireless cell activity still functions, that would be great (I only use wifi, but my VZW location service still works, so your data should too).
Known Issues
The notification/ringtones are duplicated in the selection windows, don't know why but there are no redundant files.
You will get core FC's and FC's in contacts, calendar and email until your Twitter/Facebook/Gmail accounts are fully synced, this is normal. Just give it a couple hours to fully sync (or turn up the sync interval to speed up the process).
If you are having any issues with the ROM loading on the first boot (it shouldn't take more than 4 minutes at the black screen) Turn the Tab off by holding down the power button until it powers off (9 seconds or so), Boot into recovery, select advanced --> reboot recovery. Once the secondary recovery loads, select format/factory reset and reboot.
Set picture as lockscreen wallpaper doesn't work.
Plans
I don't know, it's fast right now. Probably just more streamlining, accurate battery mod, shutdown options and a theme are all on the list too. This is really just to get me through until I finish some other things. You can make requests, but don't expect me to listen to them. I'm just sharing the ROM I've made for myself, so it is, and always will be, configured the way I like it. There's always the random good idea though. Let me know if you find any serious bugs too please.
Installation
Download the VZW bootstrapper or manually CWM your Tab (instructions HERE)
Download ROM
Factory Reset (BACK UP YOUR DATA FIRST! Should only be necessary if coming from stock)
Boot into recovery mode (power off, power button + volume up)
Select Install zip from sdcard
Select Select zip from sdcard
Browse to the location of the ROMs zip
Select yes and wait for the flash to complete
Reboot
Extras
Metamorph to change status bar black - DOWNLOAD
Metamorph to change status bar white - DOWNLOAD
Metamorph to change status bar transparent - DOWNLOAD
Note: Metamorph can be downloaded from the market HERE or if you prefer ninjamorph HERE.

Two Quick Questions
Hi Guys, I have my tab rooted but that was the extent of my knowledge. I apparently am unsure what this means exactly.
Can someone explain how to do this - YOU MUST HAVE AN EXT4 FORMATTED FILE SYSTEM TO USE
Can someone walk me through the steps of how to - Flash Via Heimdall
Thanks for this..
@ Boushh ,
I have 3 VZW Tablets...funny I got them all for Christmas Gift from One Vocal Wish at Shopping center with my Friends...LOL
I am glad to Try out your ROM, test bugs and other stuff!!
If you can just Post a Descriptive Instruction "How-To" step by step short and brief understandable, will be AWSOME!! All I care is IT Works!! and Functional 75% of Time it is ON!!

The easiest rout for you would be to download and install the "Verizon Tab Bootstrapper" (it costs a buck, also, not my app) from the market onto your tab. that will convert the necessary partitions to ext4. Alternatively you can follow the method to do it manually HERE

No to come off as rude or anything, but I do have instructions on the first post. They are pretty much all you need, so what exactly are you not getting or would you like explained more in depth? Once I discover this I can update my instructions to where it would be more helpful for some of you.

Hey Boushh,
When you said:
YOU MUST HAVE AN EXT4 FORMATTED FILE SYSTEM TO USE
Use Koush's recovery to get there.
Do you mean just wipe data and cache in cwm or something more?
Also when you said to Flash Via Heimdall - Im just not sure how to use Hiemdall. Can you tell me what steps to take.
Sorry for the questions and thanks for your patience.
Hey boushh, would you mind listing out all the apps that you deleted out of the /system? I just want to make sure that some of the stuff like divx, mobile print, etc is still there.
Thanks for all your hard work!
Boushh,
Thank you so very much for this. I just flashed v2 and I'm in love with my tab all over again! I do have 3g enabled, and so far it seems to be working just as well as the stock ROM. So far I don't notice any issues and it's blazing fast. I'm also using your new kernel as well. Thanks again and keep up the awesome work!

Im looking for some help, im not new to this completly as ive rooted and installed many roms on my phones but im new to this for the tab...
I downloaded the bootloader off the market. After i do the bootloader do i factory reset?
My question is with heimdall....when you have the screen up with all the different options(pda/code , kernal, etc) where do you put the rom to flash it?
EDIT* I got to the clockworkmod recovery screen. Can i wipe cache and install zip from there as im used to from my phone????
Thank again as any help is appreciated
Alright guys i need some help...The tab wont get pass the "samsung" when i try to boot. The only thing i did was run the bootstrapper from the market. I can get to download mode but i cant figure out how to install the rom from heimdall...

I really hope you did a backup cause it you did then you can go into recovery and restore your system. If not you can still go into clockworkmod and reinstall the rom from there. that is where you should have installed the rom from.

Awesome, I'm so glad to hear 3G is still working! Thanks for letting me know that. Also, I'm glad you enjoy the ROM, I have some good things in store for it too.

You factory reset, as I said in the instructions, also, there is no zip. You flash via Heimdall in download mode, as I said in the instructions. The ROM will not boot unless you factory reset

I would use the heimdall command prompt, the GUI doesn't always work right. Also, this has no verizon boot animation, so you will just see a black screen for a second once you get past the samsung screen.

No, you don't install the rom from Clockworkmod. You should read the directions before spreading misinformation in the future.
Does this rom have the bluetooth drivers fixed?

So what your saying is that you can't install this rom via clockwork mod?

Above is a Video, how the ROM looks like after flashed with Hemidall.
I used Frontend instead of CMD, also purchased the VZW Bootstrapper!
This is 2nd Tried with Voodoo Kernel!
Everything moves pretty well as you can see. So far no Bugs, I just missed the good old File App from original stock rom.
Deleted as well no need to argue over a Rom. Now if you stole my beer than I can see.
@boushh is the CWM for vzw you using version 3 or a later version? Got some people asking me in another forum an I want to make sure I give them the correct info.
Hello, Im new to all of this so please understand. Okay, I have a Sprint GS3, I rooted it using the toolbox thing it worked but I decided that I didnt want the root anymore. I loaded stock software and booted it up normal. The only problem now is my wifi isnt turning on. Ive searched page after page on google, ask and bing. I dont know what to do anymore. Im just about to just say screw it and give up. Any help will be much appreciated.
You Odin'd back to Stock, and now your WiFi is not working correctly ? Are you certain your connecting to your Router ? Did you check the Router to make sure it's working correctly ? Did you try to connect to the Router with another Device ?
If you still have a custom recovery installed, I'd say to just flash another rom. The toolbox kills your WiFi fir sine reason, which can only be fixed by flashing another kernel, and roms have the kernels built in so, you might as well kill two birds with one stone
You could just flash stock rooted though, no need to go full out custom
Wifi not turning on
What I mean is my phone's wifi wont turn on at all. How do I get everything back to normal like before I rooted it?

Ok, this method should work and do exactly what you wanted, but you'll still have root access.
Below, I have quoted a post I made a while back when trying to help someone out.
Down below I link to Freeza's stock Rom, which is what you want if you want the stock phone with root. The one you want to download is the DeOdex MD4 one:
DeOdex:
Sprint Touchwiz Jelly Bean 4.1.2 L710VPBMD4 | Mirror
MD5: 77262D9D6CF1A6AF30A8981A95A75D57

In step #4, the wipe system is very important. It's most likely that something in your /system folder is messing up your wifi. Just flashing a new Rom over might not fix it. I'd also wipe /data, 'cause a fresh wipe is much less likely to have issues.
Ok, let's start at the very beginning (it's a very good place to start).
Before we get started, I'm going to make the following assumptions:
You successfully rooted your phone through Odin.
You currently have a custom recovery (either TWRP or CWM).
You have a Rom you'd like to flash on either your internal storage or your SDcard (I'd recommend the SDcard, but that's your prerogative).
If either of the first two is not true, I'd recommend going back to the rooting guide and check out the videos on how to use Odin to gain root and a custom recovery.
If number 3 above is not true, download a ROM (nor someone new to flashing/custom Roms, I'd recommend Freeza's stock rooted Rom, as it's identical to stock TW, but just with Root). Once you download a Rom, check it's md5sum to verify that it's a good download. Copy the file to your SD card and get ready to flash (make sure you have decent battery life left, I try to keep at least 50% or more when flashing Roms, although it shouldn't take too long.
I'll give directions on how to flash a Rom below. The instructions will be for TWRP, but CWM has similar options/settings
Turn your phone completely off (hold down power for 3-5 seconds)
Boot your phone into recovery. Hold Up, Menu, and Power for a few seconds (until SAMSUNG appears on your screen and the phone vibrates)
Make a Nandroid backup. I can't emphasize this enough. In flashing, it's almost a certainty that one time, something will mess up. When that happens, you want to be able to restore a backup. In TWRP, just go into Backup Menu and choose where you want it (internal vs. External storage). It takes my phone a few (5-10) minutes to completely backup my data.
In TWRP, click the wipe button, then system. This will completely wipe the Rom from your phone. Doing this will allow you to get a "clean" install, without any settings or leftover files from your old Rom getting in the way. Instead, you could only wipe data (factory reset), which is good enough for most Roms. I'd still recommend a system wipe, though.
Also while in the Wipe menu, wipe Cache and Dalvik Cache.
Go back to the TWRP main menu.
Click Install, then find your Rom zip file (may have to switch from internal to external storage).
Let TWRP do it's thing.
If you're installing a TW-based Rom, chances are it had gapps already installed. If not, you should now flash the correct gapps package from goo.im. Make sure you're flashing the correct one, as if you don't, your google apps will force close upon use.
Reboot into system and give it time to boot (first boot sometimes takes a couple of minutes).
Set up your phone the way you like.
These should be the directions to follow whenever you flash a new Rom. Some Roms have the Aroma installer, so you'll have more options once you choose to flash the Rom zip, but those are typically easy to follow (and vary from Rom to Rom, so I won't be able to give you a good guide on that).
Hope this helps!

Yes. The toolbox kills your WiFi completely and you have to flash another rom to fix it. Flash stock rooted from freezas thread and you should be good to go.

Why do people use a toolbox on a phone that's so easy to root without it?

When I first rooted my phone (back pre LJ7 days), I used it because I came from the EVO 4G, which was notoriously difficult to root (and which needed a toolkit). So when I came to the GS3, I figured it'd be the same way. Fortunately, the toolkit worked better back then and I didn't have an issue. Now that I've helped others use Odin (and have used it myself a number of times), I don't point to the toolkit anymore.
But my point is, sometimes people assume it's difficult, see a toolkit that is meant to make it easier and decide that's the way to go.

I get that, but just a tiny bit of reading around well show you the toolkit is actually the harder way to root this phone in my opinion... Just saying

I totally agree that the toolkit is much more complicated and a bit of a "black box." Hence why I don't recommend it anymore.
But back then, even though I read a whole lot, I decided to go with the toolkit because it felt safer. Heck, I eevn donated so I could get the "pro" features! And for people who aren't that comfortable "hacking" things, it's tempting to use something that'll do the "hard work" for you, even if the normal way of doing it is relatively simple.
That's why I always try to spell things out very clearly for people (I do like numbered lists, don't I?). If someone responds to a thread with "just wipe data and flash a new rom," most "noobs" will hesitate because while they may know those terms, they don't know the procedure and will be afraid of messing it up. With the numbered list of instructions, they typically feel much more comfortable with doing it themselves.
Just my two cents.
Yeah, very true (@topherk). The first time I rooted my firdt phone, I saw all the guides and stuff, but settled on a toolkit sort of program to do it for me...subsequent phones I've always rooted by hand. For me it kinda sucks that there's no way to root the S3 manually (as in like, push this to.the phone, reboot, run this command then flash recovery)
Having come from 2 HTC devices (evo and evo shift), I kinda feel like ODIN is a "cheating" way to root lol. But that's just me.
Whats a md5? It says no md5 file and gives me an error.

Thats normal,.the great majority of flashable zips do not include an md5 file.
What that is referring to is a hashing function, called the md5sum, that can be used to verify the integrity of a file. Most devs will provide this (in number format) so that you can check the md5sum of your local copy/download against what they provide. If anything goes wrong in a download or file transfer, the md5sum of your copy will not match the expected value, confirming that it was a bad download or that something went wrong along the way.
For your case, TWRP always checks to see if the flashable zip includes an md5sum check file that it can check your file against as an added precaution that you're not flashing something corrupted.

Don't do the md5 verification in the Recovery. That typically fails, even if the md5 is correct.
I typically do it in Windows (I use this program, works great). If it's a really large file or I don't feel confident about the cable I'm using, I'll also check the md5sum in ES Explorer on the phone after I transfer it.
Okay I flashed it and I have the same problem. Wifi not turning on. The detox whatever its called didn't work. So I took it to sprint today after having flashed it and everything and they did a hard reset. I lost everything. Sprint couldn't swap the phone out for a new one. I am thinking about sending it back to samsung. So they can fix it. Any other ideas guys? Also thank you for your understanding and helping me.

Brblank,
Try this easy method to return to stock everything including recovery, flash count reset and device status normal. It worked perfectly for me.
Before flashing wipe Cache and Dalvik and factory reset. Then flash the file. Make sure you choose the correct file (16gb or 32gb version).
Even if it doesn't fix your WiFi issue it will put your phone in the proper state to send to Samsung.
You can place the file on your internal or external card.
Return to Stock Link
With much thanks to billard412
Hope this helps you.
