I know this is probably a stupid question but I assume its ok to go from a 2.3 ROM to 2.2 ROM...right?
Yes that's fine.

Can I get stock Froyo rom on Telus Desire ?
I have already rooted 2.1 that's on it, if that makes a difference.
I have no interest in running a custom rom since the stock (2.2) one has everything I need...
I'm also wondering the same thing actually.
I've been looking into upgrading to this ROM, since it's claimed to be 'stock':
[ROM] Rooted Official HTC Android 2.2 (FroYo) ROM [Market issue fixed]
It won't let me post a link, but its in the Desire Android Development page
I think that's the one I found but it said you have to wipe...
I just want to upgrade and keep my existing data

I answered my own question.
Modaco (where I'm also premium) has more information on the subject... I rooted a week or so ago and modaco has the stock Froyo with radio and already rooted rom.
So I just downloaded that and applied update, I didn't even wipe before since I didn't want to lose my data.
Anyways problem solved.
also just picked up the desire , on rogers and was hoping to upgrade to 2.2, I had the hero before and it was a little more clear cut back then, but Im not sure to wait for official or just root and get stuff started,
NEed HELP

i have caulkulins 1.8 rom and am looking to update my evo to 2.3 when it comes to the evo this week and i was wondering will this effect my custom rom? or can i update my evo to 2.3 with caulkulins 1.8 rom and still have caulkulins when i have 2.3?
No, think of this as updating your computer to a new OS. It's probably going to format -all, and install the new OS.
Much like when the Moment went from 1.5 to 2.1, there was in the instructions, it was noted that you'd lose all your settings and to make sure you synced your contacts, calender, etc before installing the update.
will it make my phone not be rooted?
Well, yeah, duh
Wat he said!! Lol, but wait a day tops n someone will have it rooted fir u to flash

Or just wait for a dev to release a custom ROM - shouldn't be long for a rooted stock flavor

plesae help
i did read some guide here on xda but didnt queit get it
thanks in advance
firstly you can update stock 2.3 with a stock 2.2 rom by going setting---->about phone---->software update---->check for update.
Secondly mostly all 2.3 roms have overclock feature, two of the best ones with my own personal experience are http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=840040 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192913

In my personal opinion, you should root your phone first. Please go to Desire HD development section to find out how.
I am a new newbie in Android!! i hv just bought incredible 2, and unlocked it ( used code) to use GSM. Reading many thread in this forum and it made me confusing.
My incredible 2 got: Baseband : 20.23W.30.0803U_0.99.01.0225_2 and build number:1.34.605.4 CL341571.
. Which rom ( official or custom) i can upgrade from 2.2.1 to 2.3?? we using rom for US? how about the battery after upgrading? how to root it??
Thanks so much if u can advise me!!
first of all, this has nothing to do with development and is in the wrong forum.
looks like you managed to get a 2.2 froyo version. First thing I would do is use alpharevx to s-off your phone before letting it upgrade to 2.3 (if you let it OTA to 2.3 you'll lose the ability to root it)
after that, start reading up on the forums for roms... I would recommend RMK40's debloated gingerbread.

Yeah what dnoyeb said.....this belongs in the General section. By the way here's the link to RMK's Debloated Gingersense ROM:

I just wanted to clear one confusion. I m on SEA froyo 2.2.2
I have read in the forum that downgrading from 2.3 to 2.2 is generally not possible. Then why is there no issue when downgrading from cm7/miui which is based on 2.3.5? I flashed SEA froyo 2.2.2 sbf easily from miui. Please clear my confusion. Thanks in advance.

same confusion. too.
Since the defy has a locked bootloader, we cant install custom kernels so for cm7/miui the rom is built on the official froyo kernel. So to downgrade to froyo all you have to do is flash full sbf
